I was able to completely eliminate an aging surround-sound system with this one unit. I was able to do this through a new LCD that has 4 HDMI switching built in with optical audio out. I do all the switching video and audio through the TV. All I needed was a way to upgrade the TV audio. As I live in an apartment and am looking at condo's, mounting a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system was not an option right now. This is probably the most economical solution out there if you don't need a built-in DVD player like the Yamaha's, and it's made by DENON! I eliminated 5 floor speakers, and a receiver with this setup. My living room has never looked cleaner. I have a DVD player, XBOX 360, and cable box hooked up to my TV via HDMI. I still have an open HDMI and a VGA for HTPC available as well. The TV is a Hitachi 37RV530U. I am planning to add a sub woofer though. Yamaha has a "discreet" unit that fits into an entertainment center that should do just fine.
