Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I found these to be a decent, inexpensive pair of radios for recreational and light business applications. While they do have clear reception at short ranges, they fell short when they reached a mile or more. I tested these in an "urban" environment, so maybe the distance would have been better in more remote settings. Understanding that you get what you pay for, these radios met my expectations.
