Includes Dragon Naturally Speaking" 9 Voice to Print Software: Easily convert your recorded files into text. Award-winning Dragon Naturally Speaking software is an advanced speech recognition tool for all of your business and professional needs. Because of the high quality of their digital voice recorders, Sony has received five-star certification from Nuance and combined the ICD-BM1DR9 and other selected models with Nuance's new Recorder Edition of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Recorder Edition supports dictation using Sony PC compatible digital voice recorders. It links directly with Sony's Digital Voice Editor version 3.0 software, which comes with the ICD-BM1DR9 digital voice recorder. Both pieces of software work together to provide an easy way to convert voice to text. In Dragon NaturallySpeaking, the Natural Punctuation feature automatically inserts commas and periods where needed and eliminates those awkward ''ums'' and ''ahs''.
Comments about Sony Sony ICDMX20DR9 Digital Voice Recorder:
I was quite happy with the recorder itself. The only drawback I see is that the little joystick-type controller is a little sensitive to lateral pressure when you try to press it down, so sometimes it misinterprets what you're doing, but it was not hard to overcome this. The recorder itself is very sensitive (it could easily pick up conversations in another room and make a clear recording) and the interface is reasonably intuitive. The use of AAA batteries makes it easy keep running when you are away from a computer (some other recorders require a USB charger).Overall, I can't fault the Sony part of the product at all, but?The bundled software (Nuance?s Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.0) is not the latest version of Dragon (9.5) and it does NOT work with Vista. Nothing in the product information (either from [...] or from Sony) warns of this before you purchase the product. It's really rather inexcusable to offer the bundled software in a non-Vista version almost a year after Vista shipped. You cannot upgrade the software to 9.5 through Nuance as it is an OEM product and Nuance refers you back to Sony to get it taken care of. Sony's website has nothing about this, and a call to Sony finally resulted in a response of (to paraphrase), ?tough luck.? So if you are using Vista and want the speech-to-text capability, purchase the version of this recorder without the bundled software and plan on shelling out about another [$] for a full version of Dragon. (In other words, I spent an extra [$] for two shiny cup coasters instead of software?)
