These reference monitors are probably the best value out there. They're very inexpensive- and it shows- though the construction is solid and heavy, these cabinets are often cosmetically flawed. But don't send them back- they put the quality where it counts. I've had a lot of studio experience; I like NS-10M's for sheer reference, but these strike a better balance between reference and ear fatigue, offering a slightly more flattering picture of what you put through them while still giving you a mix that will translate well through other systems- of course you need a subwoofer to keep track of the extreme lows, these won't reveal what's happening down there, but neither will monitors costing 3 times as much.
Also I accidentally honked them several times with an outrageous signal level, but the speakers never blew out. I've used my SM 250A's for a year now and still love them.
