Comments about Thorens Thorens Td158 Two-speed Turntable:
Selected this for my daughter to take to college, and as a replacement for a much loved but aging Dual 1226. I wanted the automatic start and shutoff features, and don't need the 78 speed that the higher priced Thorens models include. Unless you'll settle for a totally manual turntable, you won't find a comparable unit at this price. Please note - this is a real turntable for listening to real music, not a vinyl-destroying DJ toy.
Comments about Thorens Thorens Td158 Two-speed Turntable:
I bought this turntable to replace my 25 year old top of the line direct drive Dual whose tonearm had expired. I've kept all my albums for all these years and wanted to be able to still occasionaly listen to them. I did not want to get a cheap turntable but did not feel the need to get an expensive hi-end one either. I chose the Td158 because it was an entry level turntable from a quality maker. It is an automatic with preset tracking force and antiskating (no adjustments). It was easy to set up and my records sound fine. I do feel that if I was willing to settle for a manual turntable (I wasn't) from another maker that I could have gotten a technically better turntable for the same price. I feel that I payed a little more for the Thorens name and hopefully quality. Having said that I am happy to have a Thorens and am satisfied with my new Td158 even if it did cost a good bit more than a $100 cheap one that would have worked OK for the amount of record listening that I do at this point.
