The Emerge Tech/ReTrak retractable USB cable with 5-way star adapter is a very useful, innovative product. Both parts are constructed well. There is no feeling of "cheapness" that is so typical in the industry. I confirmed that the cable is fully USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compliant; data transfers very quickly. The retractable cable extends smoothly and neatly, though mine - bearing in mind that it is brand new and hasn't been "broken in" - tends to stick a bit when retracting. I like that the cable has a female USB type A plug on one end, allowing it to be used as a USB extension cable. The cable length is also a plus: 3.2 feet, while most other retractable USB cables are only 2 feet.

The 5-way star adapter is awesome. Also because the standard-A connector on the star adapter is male, it can be used on the end of ANY USB extension cable - not just the retractable one it came with. The star adapter is built very solidly, it's as compact as possible, and the 4 different plugs - standard-B, mini-B 5-pin, mini-B 4-pin, and "mini 4P" - are likely to suit almost everyone's USB needs. However, unfortunately the star adapter does NOT include the plug I was hoping for: an 8-pin mini-B flat USB plug that is required for both my bluetooth headset and my wife's digital camera.

All things considered, I rate this product 4/5 stars. If it had the extra mini USB plug I needed, it would have been a definite 5/5.
