"These spacers are pretty much essential unless you only plan to use a small portion of your cabinet.By lifting the grid 1"" off the surface they allow you to run your cables underneath the grid mounted equipment. This allows you to mount more in the cabinet and also lets you route cables more directly to the connectors on the equipment.Keep in mind that if you will have a lot of cables coming into your cabinet you might not be able to mount one of these up against where all of those cables are coming in because the cable bundles might be too thick to fit underneath the spacer and you don't want to force it and compress your cables.I didn't see dimensions when I was buying mine so I wasn't sure how many I would need. They are 1/2 the width of the cabinet and 11.25 in. long."
