Comments about Kensington Kensington 64294 4 Port USB HUB (Kensington 64294):
The 64294 has a sturdy metal case, and a hefty wall-wart power supply with a 79" cable. It has four USB-A connectors (flat) and one USB-B connector (square) for connecting to the computer. A 72? USB A-to-B cable is included for connecting the hub to the computer.
When plugged in and idling, the case is warm to the touch but not hot.
I bought this one on speculation because of so many reported failures with the Belkin 2.0 hubs that run very hot.
The intent of a powered hub is preventing the failure of the system board USB ports due to over current. Multiple USB devices, or those drawing high current should be connected to a powered hub.
