No, I would not recommend this to a friend
The instruction manual needs improvement and the temperature reading is off by 5 degrees; reads higher than normal. You should be able to enter a zip code and have it auto detect radio frequency rather than cross reference frequency by looking at the web site to determine what frequency you need to set it at. There is no way you can test this unless you wait until they run a test. I'm at work when they run that emergency test.
