I thought I'd try a set of the "high dollar" plugs when ordering some do it yourself speaker components. The plugs are very nice and solderless. They use a set screw to tighten onto the wire, so the thicker the wire, the better, IMO. The problem with the connectors is that the hole in the aluminum cover was not large enough to take the jacket of the 12 guage Acoustics Research wire I used. I had to drill out the holes to make it work. The banana plugs themselves fit good and snug into the receptacles on my receiver. I give these 4 of 5. If I did not have the tools to drill out the covers, I probably would have given them a 2.

The Belkin AV24000 PUREAV Banana Plugs are very good quality and an excellent value [...]. I did not "crimp" these connectors. I used Solder... since these banana plugs appear to be designed with solder plugs. I do not think these are made for crimping...I tried to crimp one...). For soldering, I suggest using a high setting on the solder iron and be careful not to burn anything ... a vice grip or vice to hold the banana plug while soldering is helpful. I used a table-top hobby vice with rubber grips. Soldering these connectors is a time consuming process... even with the proper tools ... allow at least 5 minutes per connector. I installed 10 sets (20 plugs) and new speaker cables for each speaker speaker of a new 5:1 Surrond Sound system (a new Sony STR-DE998 Home Theater Reciever w/ 110-Watts per channel). I used 14 guage clear jacket speaker wire. The brand of speaker wire is Metra (Raptor) S14-500 MTA 14 Gauge Clear Speaker Wire. (I would use 12 guage when installing for a higher power, 250 watt/ channel speaker system).

I thought they were the type with tiny screws to hold the speaker wires. They were good quality crimp-ons nonetheless. I was just disappointed that I couldn't reuse them.

These are very high quality at a fair price. Not much can be said about bannanna plugs when they are good, these do their job well. Take a bit of care crimping the end, I over crimped one and accidentally cut it shorter.
