In the end, this is still two pieces. The cigarette lighter adapter fits snuggly in some vehicles I have rented, but is loose in others. Overall, it seems excessively bulky. The AC adapter that comes with the iPhone is much smaller, even if you also have to carry a car adapter too. The upshot of having two separate adapters is that you don't have to remember to bring the car adapter in to your hotel room at night. I'd just buy a retractable cable and a compact USB cigarette lighter adapter if I had it to do over again.
