No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Well, I bought and returned/exchanged this item 4 times at JCPenny. On one, the plastic handle that holds the espresso broke and became unusable. All the others overheated during the initial "cleaning" phase. Smoke drifted out of the top and could smell that "electrical burn" that tells you something bad just happened. The machines would not work after that. I bought a different brand!
