It works to deliver the signal as long as the remote control is 1" from the receiver. I took the receiver apart, cut the foil, that helped, but not great. Then I noticed the little receiver thing was tucked inside the metal box too far, so I pried it up. Ok now it works ok, but as soon as I put the plastic back on, nothing. So now I have a circuit board with an antenna laying there, and the range works ok. Seems like it'd be better to buy anything other than this product. I think it'd be easier to train my dog to change the channels.

I thought at first batteries in remote were bad. Put a fresh set in and still only got around 5 ft. in plain view of transmitter and receiver. Read "improve" post below and modified. Now 28 ft. on next room and works great! Internal design does need to be redesigned. I would really like to know what t hat screen was for.

Doesn't work more than 6 feet away
By Plasmaguy from San Diego, CA on 11/16/2008
Pros:
Easy To Install, Easy To Use
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I should have read these reviews before I bought it. It works just as they all state. Works great from within 6 feet, but doesn't work at all from more than 6 feet. There are others out there that actuall work from all over the house.

I notice the same thing most reviewers state, poor transmitter performance unless you hold your IR remote very close. I split the case open, cut the tiny wire screen that seems to block the IR receiver, bingo, range is excellent, you would think the manufacturer would change the design? when every review states poor reception and this fixes it?

6 foot max throw of IR signal to sender

Although advertised as able to use from 20 feet away I found that this was NOT true and the max distance was 6 feet (measured from my remote to Jensen Transmitter). Once the IR signal was picked up the unit did effectively send to receiver and fulfill commands.

These work exactly as stated. What the instructions did not state is how close the remote needs to be to the transmitter. I bought a set of these and found that unless your infrared remote was within about six feet of the transmitter, it would not relay the signal to the receiver. If I wanted to get up and walk over to the TV everytime I needed to change the channel, I would have just thrown away the batteries in my remote.
