This was purchased as a portable system to be used in several different vehicles, not as a "hard wired" system. It is intended as a short-range communicator. It's limitations are not a problem to me, and it has performed exactly as anticipated, exactly as advertised, exactly as required. If this fits your needs, it performs very well. It's not a long-range device, but that's not what it is designed to do. I'm happy with the quality for the price.
