Description

The Panasonic BL-C131A network camera makes it easy to keep an eye on your property while you're away on business or vacation. Simply log on to the Internet using a PC or even a compatible cell phone or PDA device and instantly access camera images from virtually anywhere. You can also use a standard Web browser to move the cameras pointing direction as well as to activate its digital zoom to bring objects of interest into close view. Utilizing 802.11g wireless technology you can easily move it from to room, within the wireless range, without the hassle of running network cables.

Key Features

"
Free IP Address

This camera can be assigned a free, easy to remember IP address such as http://bob.viewnetcam.com, which unlike Dynamic IP addresses stays with this camera permanently. There's also no need to install any specialized software as all the required programs are already embedded in the camera. Should you mistakenly confuse camera settings, simply press the factory default button which will automatically return the camera to its default settings.
"
802.11g Wireless Operation

By combining network and wireless technology, this camera gives you both convenience and remote Internet viewing. Take the camera from room to room as needed and then access its images from virtually anywhere simply by logging on to the Internet using a PC or even a compatible cell phone or PDA device. For added versatility, this camera features an on-board Ethernet port for direct connection to your network hub.
"
Simultaneous MPEG-4 and JPEG Video Streaming

Video can be captured in the MPEG-4 and JPEG formats simultaneously. This allows a user to view live video in the fast MPEG-4 format while recording is taking place in the higher resolution JPEG method. A user can also choose one over the other to suit a particular network requirement.
"
Remote Pan & Tilt and 10x Digital Zoom

With the simple click of a mouse, a remote Internet user can activate the camera's motorized pan & tilt function to point the lens in a desired direction. Images can also be digitally magnified up to 10x to bring them into close view.
"
Built-In Microphone

A built-in microphone provides one-way voice communication to a PC user over the network.
"
Human Detection Sensor

A built-in sensor uses a combination of motion and heat detection to detect a human entering a room. This will trigger the camera to capture images which can be sent over the network to an Email address or to an FTP server. Human detection is fully programmable for threshold and sensitivity.
"
Privacy Mode Button

To ensure that your privacy is not compromised, you can easily take the camera off the network by pressing a button directly on the camera. This can also be done remotely over the network on a system administrator level.

    Exceeded Expectations

    Pros:

Good In Low Light, Easy To Set Up, Sharp Image

    Best Uses:

    Monitoring

    Primary use:

    Personal

    Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Excellent camera that does everything it says and more. I have it in a shed that has a radiant barrier foil on walls and roof. Due to this the signal is weak 7% but it never drops out. Trigger is great, it will even trigger when I come home late at night and the car lights shine on the window. It does not over trigger like a bad motion sensor. It simply works. I can even see the flashing armed light on the speedo of my motorcycle. Worth every dime and I have owned over a year and would buy it again. Tech Support if needed is in the USA, real techs vs someone reading a screen and it's an experience like the good ole days. Responsive, knowledgeable. Wireless set up can be interesting and as someone said, may require port forwarding on your modem but Tech Support is first rate in getting you configured. If you buy it you won't be disappointed !

Great vacation home surveyance camera...only thing that can help to maintain continual ip connection is to add a daily timer to turn on and off the camera to refind the ip address in case there is a cut in electricity.

Product was easy to setup using direct connect to computer. Controls easy and fun to use. Wireless and access via internet MUCH more difficult and fraught with pitfalls. Required port forwarding to allow access through routers is not for the unitiated in dealing with IP addresses and ports.

    Primary use:

    Business

    Bottom Line:

I bought several of these cameras to monitor a dog boarding facility when I am not on site. This is a great camera for viewing and listening to what is going on when I am away from the facility. I can see, and listen to what is happening. I use the pan, tilt, and zoom to visual see what is happening at various locations. Using an iphone, I can view the kennel from any location where I have a cell phone signal. I did need help with port-forwarding the signal through my wireless router. My internet provider provided that help for a reasonable cost.

    Pros:

Reliable, Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use

    Best Uses:

    Home

    Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very easy to setup and use, as long as you're familiar with setting up network devices. Otherwise it would be a little more challenging. Has a great set of features and the web interface is remarkable with the ability to click and drag on the image to pan the camera (similiar to what you can do on Google maps). Image is fairly clear, as good as can be expected anway.

Excellent camera for the price, crisp pictures, many useable features, easy to use software. The only issue I had was ISP related and Panasonic Technical Support was great, understandable and US based. This is not junk - you will be pleased with your purchase. I have one wirelessly transmitting from a detached garage with excellent results.
