I bought this for my HT system in the main theater room. I have some weird stuttering in the HD DVR box at this location. After switching boxes from locations without the stuttering, and running new coax, I thought that it might be something to do with the quality of the power.
I bought the belkin because I run a couple of pro amps (QSC850) in my system. These amps don't have the 12V trigger that some consumer amps do. This mandated that these amps be left on 24/7 or switched off manually. Long story short, I mostly leave the QSCs on.
So, there were two reasons I bought the Belkin, to act as a switch for the QSCs and to possibly clean up the power in the main viewing room.
On looking for the Belkin, I noticed that it was availabe in black for a higher price. Beleive me, the extra money was not trivial for me, but in the end I went for black. "Do it once, do it right" that's what my daddy taught me, and that's what I did. You see, I have a rack on either side of my entertainment system, and the only thing that's not black in the racks is the Scientific Atlantic HD8300 cable box from Time Warner. I can't control the color of that component, but I was happy to receive the Belkin in black!
On opening the package, I was happy to see the black anodized finish matched the rest o my components just fine. As I attached the optional (included) rack mount ears I noticed the weight of the Belkin, nicely done Belkin.
Now I have to mention that I'm a Mechanical Engineer, as such I can't help but be a bit pragmatic (some would say pesamistic). Some feel better knowing that they're "PROTECTED" from so many KJ of electricity surge. I simply look at the odds that I'll be just fine for the next decade or two without protection. Long story short, the surge protection means little to me an less to the motivation behind htis purchase.
That said, after everything was installed I didn't notice much of a differnece in performance. That could be good or bad to you depending on your expectations. The weird dgital interuptions with the HD DVR are still present, perhaps to a lesser degree, perhaps it is my imagination.
This product appears to live up to it's claims. It switches my ampliiers with mo prective depreciation in performance, at least to my ears. It might or might not have helped to clean up the power in my viewing rom. Did I notice huge increases in the brightness/ contrast of my display? No, not really. Is it valuable in my system? I think so.
