Lots of learning opportunities

By HONEY from Mesa, AZ on 09/06/2012

Pros:

Super-sharp Images, Superior Build Quality, Lots Of Great Features. I'm Still Learning About T, Wonderful Customer Service

Cons:

Can Be Difficult To Change Setting Quickly, Shuts Itself Off Frequently At Bad Times, Heavy So Hard To Hold Steady

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera is larger & heavier than my previous cameras & I was very surprised by this when I received it. It's more difficult to change settings & to see the desired setting on the wheel due to extremely small writing & small controls. Difficult to hold steady with the auto pop up flash position. I haven't learned if it's possible to change the size of pixels it uses yet. It takes wonderful, clear pictures & movies. I really like being able to zoom while taking the movie. All in all it's another super Canon Camera!

My surprise purchase

By Murphy from Undisclosed on 10/13/2011

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings, Good Low-light Performance, Durable, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

Average Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

While traveling overseas I dropped my Cannon G-7 and the lens jammed and would not retract. I still had 2 weeks to go on my trip and could not be without a camera so went into a camera shop in Edinburgh to see if they could possibly fix it. Unfortunately they advised me I would have to send it in. So I looked at what replacements were available and after a recommendation by the clerk I purchased this camera. I have been very pleased with it's performance, ease of use, low light pictures, and how portable it is. The price was great too. I liked my G-7 but this camera is a strong competitor as far as I am concerned.

Disappointed

By Don from Leesburg Florida on 08/31/2011

Pros:

Easy To Use, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life, Durable

Cons:

Poor Low-light Performance, Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have been extremely disappointed with the quality of the pictures I have taken. I have an older digital camera that takes great pictures but I wanted to upgrade from a 4 times zoom to the 14 times zoom with the Canon. The quality of the pictures taken indoors at concert events are no where near as good a s my older camera. Many pictures are not clear as they should be and trust me I'm no beginner at taking photos. Pictures are dark, fuzzy and poor quality. I even had other people attempt to use the camera and they said that no way would they buy this camera. I just can't recommend this camera

Dust is a Big Problem

By Greg from Virginia on 08/15/2011

Pros:

Good Video, Easy To Use

Cons:

Lens Construction, Dust, Flimsy Construction

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased this camera in the Spring and on the first day I used it noticed a problem with dust getting on the lens and inside the lens. Withing two months, dust and hair actually got inside the camera causing for significant quality issues. For the price of this camera, this should not be happening. Even worse, there is no way to fix this. I have used an air gun to try to loosen these particles, blown inside the camera, etc., and nothing works. You will see that the lens has a gap between the metal casing and the lens. Dust enters into the camera around all sides. There is no way to clean the inside of the camera. Otherwise, this camera could be great. Picture quality is fantastic and video quality was great when there was not this dust problem. Verdict: don't buy this camera.

Best Purchase

By Beki from Marshall, MN on 07/17/2011

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Durable, Excellent Image Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Image quality is amazing! I can work with apertur and shutter speed like a non digital camera. It's portable and easy to use. One thing I will say is the flash lense is the only thing that sticks out from the camera. if I would to ever drop it, it would probably be the first thing to break on my camera.

Fantastic Camera

By Mule Lady from Safety Harbor, FL on 07/15/2011

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Good Low-light Performance, Bright Lcd, Durable, Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality, Great Zoom

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera after my older canon finally bit the dust. Carried my old one in my saddlebag for well over 2000 miles of riding everywhere in the USA and took 1000's and 1000's of pictures. I was sold on canon! So far with this one, I have taken it everywhere in Israel and Egypt and taken 100's of shots of grandchildren. It has never failed me. I love the high zoom and get some great shots from far away that I never thought would come out so clear. I was a little worried about the placement of the flash because I always seem to have my finger in the wrong place when I turn on the camera but MOST of the time I do not need it. This is such a great low light camera, I normally get a great shot without the flash. The majority of the time I have just used the easy setting and get sharp beautiful shots. The clips of video also come out crisp and clear. I am very happy with this camera!!

I love this camera

By Special Lady from Perry, Florida on 07/09/2011

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use, Good Low-light Performance, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I would highly recommend this camea. I have enjoyed it to the fulliest. I took on the road all in cold tempatures and it took very good pictures in the snow, in the dark and in the rain the pictures still come out clear. I am often taking pictures without the flash and they come out well in doors. I took pictures while driving and they came out perfect. I love this and you can't tell I was driving nor that I was behind the windsheild of a 18 wheeler or my personal suv. I have taken some awesome pictures from a distance and it look as I was directly up on the subject. I have no cons other than the batteries don't last long but this is ok. This is a duriable camera. Trust me it is all that I am saying it is. I keep it with me at all times in my purse. I have taken clear picutures from inside a building of something outside and you can not tell the difference. I like to take nature pictures and they come out well even for and amature.

Great for traveling except...

By traveler from Northern CA on 07/05/2011

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Lightweight/portable, Good Low-light Performance, Bright Lcd

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Compared to the camera I had used on previous world adventures this one was great. Easy to use, light weight. Love the 14x zoom. Best to date camera with the one exception of short battery life. Fortunately, I took a spare with me. Each charge only got me about 1-3 hours of use,,, hard to feel good about an 8 to 10 hours of sightseeing and adventure half way around the world and having to be stingy with the pic taking to make it through the day. Would not be good in areas without daily recharge opportunities.

Great camera with one major flaw

By Anonymous from Undisclosed on 07/04/2011

Pros:

Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Durable, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Poor Image Quality, Fills With Dust

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Overall I really like this camera. I like to take my camera with me everywhere, so this camera usually ends up in my pocket or in a bag. It takes beautiful shots and pretty good video. I've been using this camera for about a year. Now for the huge flaw I've found. The camera will easily fill with dirt, hair, and dust. Since the lens will zoom a great distance this allows dust to work its way inside the camera. I even have hair inside the lens. I believe this is from the movement of the lenses while zooming in and out. There are 3 parts that move and they seem to pull dirt into the camera - making it impossible to prevent this problem. If I thought it were worth my time to have the inside of the lenses cleaned every couple of months or so, I'd keep this camera. You may have better luck if you keep this camera in a camera bag and out of dusty environments (do NOT store in a pocket). Right now I'm looking for a comparable replacement. This camera takes excellent pictures when the dust inside the camera is not reflecting natural light.

Awesome Zoom

By Zebeagle from Vienna, VA on 06/22/2011

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Good Low-light Performance, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Heavy/bulky

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I went to a concert last night where I was sitting in the back rows, I'm guessing I was at least 200 feet away from the stage. I was able to use my camera to zoom in on the singer and take clear pictures. Today when my friends saw my pictures they thought that I was sitting in the front row. Everyone was impressed with this camera's zoom ability. I'm so glad I chose it.

Very disappointed!

By Anonymous from Plymouth ,ma on 06/12/2011

Cons:

Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was very frustrated with this camera. I thought it was me but after reading others reviews I now know it's the camera. The pictures were not clear no matter what setting I tried. I didn't realize this until after I developed my son's First Holy Communion pictures. It was very upsetting. Don't but this Camera. I loved my other camera but it was old and outdated....I think I'm going back to it because the pictures were wonderful.

Very disappointed with this one

By Stormin from Rehoboth Beach, De on 06/07/2011

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Poor Low-light Performance, Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Camera doesn't produce crisp clear pictures, especially indoors and in low light conditions, no matter what setting I use. I returned to to Cannon and they "adjusted" it but it is still unsatisfactiory. I have had previous cheaper cameras that took better pictures than this dog. I keep thinking that it's me but even on a monopod the picture quality isn't what I was expecting. I bought this camera based on several excellent reviews. I've change the SD card thinking that may have been the problem but it doesn't seem to matter. I used it an indoor graduation and everybody elses pictures turned out better than mine.

disappointed

By Robin from Omaha Nebraska on 05/22/2011

Cons:

Difficult To Use

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have only had this camera for three months and it already needs repair. The LCD display has stopped working completely and I have to send it in. Besides that, there is a serious design flaw where the flash pops up- it is right where you would hold the camera with your left index finger. Would definetly NOT buy again.

Purchased on-line. Camera has a good feel to it and all controls operate smoothly. Unfortunately, the pictures were fuzzy and had an yellow tint to them. Couldn't track down anyone who could/would offer a suggestion as to why, so returned it for full refund. No hassles.I will take in a storage card and physically try my next camera before buying.

Cons:

Great camera for general use. Slim profile is just right for the pocket. The 14x optical zoom sold me. I've used it weekly for four months with great pics. It is slow on shutter responce. Bad location for flash; where finger is.

Pros:

Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Poor Image Quality, Complicated Controls/menu, Difficult To Use

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This camera is a disappointment. I bought this camera because I needed to replace a camera and I need the 14x zoom. The photos are not crisp and clear. The image stabilizer does not offer much help. I am trying to locate a printed copy of the "Camera Users Guide" that comes with the camera on a CD. So far, it seems that I must print the 180 pages to have it handy when I am using the cameras. A condensed version is available with the camera. Cheaper cameras that are owned by family members produce better photos.

not as good as it sounds

By csu from Undisclosed on 03/30/2011

Cons:

Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This camera sounds wonderful. Buyer beware. It does combine the point and shoot with the SLR options. It looks great on the 3inch LCD...put it on your computer and you see a grainy image with nearly zero depth of field. I have bought Canon Point and Shoots in the past and have been more that happy with the AUTO option. Either I have recieved a malfunctioning camera or this line is highly disappointing. It did not take long to upload images as other reviews mentioned. I bought this camera because I just wanted the option to play with the SLR side of it but intended on relying on the AUTO feature.

Almost perfect

By Anonymous from Columbia, SC on 03/30/2011

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Exceptional Zoom, Simple Controls/menu

Cons:

Flash Location

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is ALMOST the perfect pocket camera. The 14x optical zoom is unusual for pocket cameras and very handy for wildlife or for cropping photos on the fly. The 14.5 megapixel is also outstanding and provides the ability to make high quality prints. The variety of settings makes it easy to select the proper setting and the multi-focus capabilities helps ensure everyone is in focus. So why isnt this camera perfect? The flash is located exactly where you put your left index finger when you are taking a picture. So, when you turn the camera on, the popup tries to move your finger. I know, from a photographic perspective, having the flash directly on top the lens is taboo, but it would be a better location from a usability perspective. Perhaps having the flash embedded in the front would be a better place. Ive learned to live with the minor quirk and continue to tell everyone about this ALMOST perfect camera.

Takes a long time to get pictures from camera

By skyrocket from Indianapolis, IN on 03/07/2011

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd

Cons:

Difficult To Get Pictures From Camera, Poor Low-light Performance

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I havenn't been totally happy with inside shots, particularly portrait type shots. Exposures are all over the place. Outside shots are really quite good. My big problem with the unit is when I try to take pictures from camera to the computer.....really, really slow. My other brand is really easy to take pictures and go directly to CD Burning, and that quickly. I can't even figure out how to make that work with the Canon.

Great Camera

By apricot from Phoenix AZ on 03/06/2011

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Durable, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Issues With Uploading Pictures To Computer, Software

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I really enjoy this camera. It is much better than the previous camera that I had. The pictures are clear and I love that I can use the zoom lens on videos. My only con is that the software to upload the pictures is tedious and confusing. When I try to upload to the software, my computer memory is filled up and the pictures do not upload properly. It takes a long time to delete pictures and upload them a few at a time. There has to be a better way!

I am 16 so I love having the ability of taking classy pictures as well as just pictures for memories while goofing off with my friends. I am still learning how to use a lot of it however. It was definitely the best Hanukah present I have gotten and have no regrets.

I own two other older cameras that knocks this one out of the box.I have owned Cannon camera for over twenty years However, this camera can not stand up to the performance of my other camera. The price would have been excellent if the product had more pros and or less cons. In addition the location of the flash was ridiculous as it popped up and seemed to be in the way. I returned the camera as I felt that at some point the flash was going to be a real problem. In addition the photo were of poor quality. Please don't base all cannon cameras on this particular camera as there are some very good cannons on the market Thanks and good luck

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I absolutely LOVE this camera. I previously owned another brand but my pictures were consistantly coming out blurry. I'd been looking into Canon for several months now and originally had the SX130 picked out. But after shopping around I found the SX210IS for an awesome price and couldn't pass it up. I was a little nervous at first about purchasing a brand I had never used but I am ecstactic that I chose this camera. It has excelled all my expectations! My pictures come out verly clear and I love the setting where I can change the colors of the pictures!!! I never realized how bad my other pictures were until I had some from this camera printed and could see the difference on paper. I would definately recommend this camera over and over again!

Excellent Product by Canon

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Good Low-light Performance, Bright Lcd

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

For months i was in search of a really good digital camera having maximum features and high performance. At last found Canon Power Shot SX210-IS, read reviews, specifications and decided to buy it. I have no words how to describe the performance of this great master piece. The performance of this camera is beyond my expectations and in few days this camera has given me countless wonderful shots. The performance is more than what written about it. Clear bright LCD, sharp and crisp images, multiple modes from easy to manual. In short if you cannot buy a pro DSLR, Canon Power Shot SX210-IS would be the best option to go for. The movie feature is awesome and last but not the least the 14x optical zoom helps you to capture an image which is impossible for other cameras having less optical zoom.. Thumbs Up Canon for this marvelous product.

Pros:

Good Low-light Performance, Excellent Image Quality, Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am by no means an expert on cameras. I am a simple user who takes family pictures. This camera is outstanding for that purpose. I have always envied good photos of my friends, and knew that I could do better than the camera I was using. This camera does it for me. I read some reviews that had negative things to say about this camera--blurry pictures, etc. I don't have any of those problems. Great camera for me. I'm excited to learn more about photography so I can increase the quality of my shots.

Pros:

Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Flimsy Construction, Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It could use a viewfinder for zooming. Very unstable at extreme zoom as most pictures miss when you press the shutter button and move the camera even minutely. The flash is a weakpoint as it rises where the finger naturally rests meaning it does not rise or forces one to change hand positions. The strap is of poor quality. It is fraying within two months of purchase.

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Good Low-light Performance, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Bright Lcd, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Durable

Cons:

Pop-up Flash Location

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We love this camera. We bought it for a trip we thought our D-SLR would be too big as this camera is smaller, lighter, but had many great features. It performs like our big camera with equal quality. The battery lasts forever and with the Joby Gorilla-pod it was an ideal combination on our trip. My wife and I were very pleased with the quality of photos it took, as were friends that saw the pictures. The only draw back is the flash pops-up right under your finger when you turn it on, no matter how hard you try not to place it there (stubborn habit to break). Luckily, you can maually open it to alleviate that ill-placed finger. Other than that, this is a great camera.

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera is easy and takes great pictures. The zoom is awesome. I do love the size and the weight and love the groove at the top. I do have some complaints. I love the groove at the top of the camera for easy holding but my finger automatically rests in that groove right on the flash so when I turn on the camera, the flash wont open. I also accidentally close the flash because my hand wants to hold the camera and the flash is in the way. Also.. Im struggling to find a way to have the flash on outside. Sometimes I want the natural light enhanced with the flash.. it wont flash! I would be happier if the battery would last longer too.

Cons:

Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

This camera has taken great pictures for me so far! I've had it out on the beach, in the snow, in low and high light conditions and every shot has come out good. Sometimes when you zoom to close to something it will be blurry. Having the Av, P, and Tv modes makes it a lot like a DSLR..but in a small size! It's awesome to be able to control a lot of the artistic effects! I do wish there was a micro mode on the dial. The only way to get to it is thru the special functions. The flash has never gotten in my way and works well!

Cons:

Flash Location

Great little camera

By barsyl from Naples FL on 02/09/2011

Pros:

Durable, Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Good Low-light Performance, Lightweight/portable, Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Am still getting acquainted with all the settings, but so far it has lived up to my expectations. Like others have said, the on-off button is too small, but fortunately I have fingernails that solve that problem. The A and Easy settings have worked so well, for quick shots, and it takes wonderful photos in low light conditions without flash. I just wish it had a speed setting on the dial. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Happy Camper

By nene from Undisclosed on 02/09/2011

Pros:

Good Low-light Performance, Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Durable, Nice Features/settings, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

First and foremost, the pictures are wonderful! Very good resolution and great color. The camera is small and lightweight, and I love the zoom feature, it lets you adjust quickly to get exactly what you want into the picture. It is also good for when you have to take quick shots, it seems they've actually made it difficult to take blurred pictures. I love it and highly recommend it for anyone who likes photography from the graphics/design point of view, but doesn't want to mess with all of the technical part of it, like me. It's very versatile, and yet on the Auto setting very easy to use. I also use the macro setting a lot for close-ups of flowers, and the My Colors feature is very good for this kind of photography.

Must have a lemon

By Alotty from Midwest on 01/31/2011

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Lemon, Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My photos typically are blurry, though I'm using automatic settings appropriately and have the IS on. I've had Canon digital cameras in the past, and I've never had such a problem. I am starting to suspect I have a lemon, as I've gone thru all settings and cannot see anything that seems improper. I do not consider myself an expert with manual settings, so I stick with the auto settings. Any movement at all leads to a blur. Most photos have been indoor and just terrible. My outside photos turned out most wonderful though -- that was superior photo quality. I am just so surprised at the indoor quality, I now think I just have a lemon and will try to return it (I've had it 2 months so we'll see how this return process goes).

Canon SX210

By rivirat from Sacramento, CA on 01/21/2011

Pros:

Small Size With Big Camera Features, Telephoto + Stabilization Is Exellent, Low Light Pictures Are Outstanding

Cons:

Buttons Get Pressed When You Try To Take Pictures, On Off Is Hard To Use, Pop Up Flash Turns Off Too Easily

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This Camera takes the clearest pictures and in the lowest light of any compact camera I have used. I have owned over 6 in recent years. There are 2 design flaws that keep me from giving this camera 5 stars on all counts. The back panel has buttons right where you put your thumb when you take pictures. The movies you take can't be copied as files without using the Canon software.

Great All-around Camera

By Trekker from Monterey Bay, CA on 01/10/2011

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Good Low-light Performance, Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Outstanding image quality, and huge benefit of ability to use AA batteries. (I use rechargeable NiMh AAs.) Camera is a perfect slightly larger size, which makes it easier to hold than those smaller compact cameras This also helps prevent the user from inadvertently pushing the wrong buttons. Reading the Owners' Manual and correctly using the available multitude of features virtually guarantees great images.

Cons:

I have been a fan of canon for the past 6 years. I never get tired of the brand. I am swapping out an old canon for this unit because it has all of the same features that mine did, and more! I love the fish eye and minature function, and I have always loved the color accent and color swap. I am also excited about the zoom on this one!

Excellent Camera

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Good Low-light Performance

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera is one of the best I've owned, especially at the price. Can't say enough good things about it. Has plenty of features for those who like to play w/ the different settings but also easy enough for those who like to point/shoot. zoom is great, pictures are super crisp. About only thing I would say is that batteries don't last too long but only need to bring along a couple of rechargeable AA's and you're good to go.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My camera is part of me, it goes everywhere I go. So I have to have one I can depend on. I bought another camera just before I bought this SX120. It did not give me the color I wanted, took it back and swapped for this one. I have had it for 6 mo. and been very pleased with it. If I am taking a closeup or a distance picture it gives me good pictures.

One of the best compact ...

By Z3 from Undisclosed on 11/17/2010

Pros:

Cons:

Awkward Position Of The Flash

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

One of the best compact cameras of the year so far. I'm quite pleased with the performance of the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS. The camera powers up responsively and offers solid performance and an extended feature. The camera offers full manual control over camera settings. Aperture, shutter speed, ISO and focusing can all be controlled manually. The only reason why i gave it 4 stars(actually 4.5 stars) is because the position of the flash. Otherwise it deserves 5 stars.

Not that impressed

By shutterbug from Sarasota, FL on 11/15/2010

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Had the camera for just the weekend and returned it. The major problem with this camera and any designed like this is the location of the built in flash. Just happens to be in the exact place where most people would put their fingers to steady the camera. I found myself putting my index finger where the flash cover was and wondered how long it would be before it wouldn't pop up anymore. Canon neeeds to redesign this feature.

Love this camera!

By nailhere from New York on 11/04/2010

Pros:

Great Zoom Power, Resolution Quality Is Superb

Cons:

Location Of Flash

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my 3rd canon camera. I was supposed to get the Canon 200SX last December (2009) on my way to vacation, but was turned off by the reviews I read about it. But when my friend bought that one and showed me the pictures she took using it, I had a change of heart. So I went online to buy and saw this updated model 210SX, which is slimmer and the zoom power is better. Glad this is the one I got, now I'm enjoying taking pictures of the many birds that come to our feeder every morning. The zoom power is great since I can take picturesof the birds up-close while I'm in my car and the resolutions are really good. I discovered that you can play with your subject and background by how you press the shutter. I had also tried using it aboard a bus and was impressed that I was able to get good pictures of the sceneries we passed by. All in all I'm loving this camera!

Returned after 2 days

By Jen from Rochester, NY on 10/31/2010

Pros:

Zoom Capability

Cons:

Blurry Pictures, Image Stabilizer Doesn't Work

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I needed a camera for a trip to Australia. I bought this camera before a wine tour the week before to test it out. The pictures I took were very blurry. The ones that I took at night were useless. I returned it for a lesser model- the Canon SD 980, which takes great photos and is considerably less expensive.

Did not meet my expectations

By Anonymous from Undisclosed on 10/25/2010

Pros:

Excellent Zoom Abilities

Cons:

Picture Quality Is Terrible, Video Quality Is Terrible, Flash Is In An Awkward Location

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I got this camera to replace my Canon PowerShot A630 which I used and loved for 3 years. While the ability to zoom so far with this camera is nice, it doesn't make up for the poor picture quality. The amount of digital noise in the photos is horrendous, even when shooting in well-lit situations with the ISO set at 80. I will be returning this camera.

Great little camera PowerShot SX210 IS

By Redrose from Akron, Ohio on 10/23/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It took me a while to convince myself to get a digital camera but now I could kick myself for not doing it sooner. I have the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS and I love it. I'm having so much fun clicking away and not having to worry about running out of film. I do keep an eye on how many shots left and battery status but it's great to be able to shoot at will. The camera is easy to carry and I love that it is a 14x. I find it amazing how close I can get to some things. People who have looked at the pictures while still in the camera are amazed at the quality. I haven't even gotten into the manual operations yet. I'm still using the automatic setting. I would highly recommend this camera. Thanks, Cannon, for such a great little camera. Redrose, Ohio

Left me Unsatisfied

Pros:

Very Compact With A Big Zoom

Cons:

Poorly Placed And Very Weak Flash

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It is a small package with lots of functionality. I gave my camera to a Canon DSLR user friend [having no time to explain the details] to take pictures of my granddaughter and me in a once in a lifetime event. Sadly, none of the pictures came . Completely blank shots. Because of the location of your flash position[ under the normal left hand index finger], the flash never did pop open. Also the flash is VERY weak.

good camera but expected better

By garrett from gilbert, az on 09/27/2010

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

it a good camera, i got it because i love my canon rebel but wanted a pocket camera yet i wanted with a good zoom capability's, the zoom is great for a pocket camera. the picture quaility is strange though i've gotten some great shot but most pictures have a funny look- i can't quit explain a dotted haze look. it more on low light pictures but when in full screen can see all the time. action shots arent as good as the canon rebel either but i expected that. as for video recording it does a great job, sound recording a little spotty, it goes out from stearo to mono but i am basing that on a firework with music show i recorded, other sound recording worked fine. so in the end picture quaily i expected better and is my biggest let down( i had high expectaction and is my first 14.1pixal) other wise great oh and battery life great too. pictures only last long time vide recording i been able to record for avg stright hr and take picture through out the day. recording defently take a lot more power though.

Very good telephoto images. Slow AF, you loose your subject until the camera take tha shut. The new battery is lasting about 1h on HD movie recording and the quality is good, with details. But the HD movie in MOV format with avc1 codec is crazy to edit. A VERY POOR SOFTWARE is provided for video editing: ZoomBrowser. This is not capable to trim and take out some parts of the movie. Took it on a week long horse pack trip and got some AMAZING pictures while I was riding. Love the size, makes it really versitile. I've had it for 2 months and it has easy use buttons for the dummies like me but I like it so much now I'm just getting into learning some more technical stuff. Only wish it had a hard copy of the manual so I can learn everything whenever and wherever.

Pros:

Good Quality, Light Weight And Compact

Cons:

Flash In The Wrong Spot, Small Buttons

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The quality is good for a point and shoot, good for close ups. what I don't like about it is the flash location and hard to quickly adjust the zoom lens bar. The bar is to close to the on-off button and all the buttons are really small. Other then that it's a good little quick shot or good for close up photos. It is compact and extremely light weight compared to the slr style one! It's a good novice or hobbiest camera!

Good to go

By MOOK from SUN VALLEY, IDAHO on 09/06/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I just love it. This is my third Canon and they just get better all the time. My "big " one is the Rebel XSi and as much as I love it, it is just to big to lug around while hiking or in situations where compactness or discretion are required. The 14x zoom is out of sight. Pardon the pun. So far I have no negatives, only superlatives. Just the usual Canon attention to quality and detail. And while I understand the economics of printing only the "getting started" booklet, I would prefer a more comprehensive users guide. It's pretty hard to carry your laptop while on skis careening down a mountain at breakneck speed. Regarding the flip up flash. Automatic, deactivated, flip it up, flip it up down, whatever your heart desires. Just enjoy. One other thing that comes to mind. i have called the Canon "help line" a few times, shortly after I got my XSI, and every question was answered completely, explained thoroughly and handled with the utmost level of professionalism.

Meets our needs perfectly

By suzie Q from Montana on 08/11/2010

Pros:

Size, Picture Quality, Video Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We bought this camera before an overseas trip. Several things that were important to us was to find a point and shoot camera that was easy to handle, easy to transport, and also took good video. We also wanted to be able to zoom in and out while recording video. There are not many cameras that allow the zoom option while the video is recording. We were very pleased with the quality of both the videos and stills. The HD video works great. It would be nice if the microphone was on the front of the camera instead of the top, but it still picked up sound good. Just make sure you don't cover the microphone with your finger! We liked the feature that lets you see on the screen how your picture will look before you even take the picture. We thought it might be annoying to have the flash always popping up, but it doesn't take long to get used too, and you can always hold it down. Our only con would be lapse time between pictures, but it isn't too difficult to deal with, and the pros definately outweigh that con!

Cons:

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The pictures and features are ok, but the camera broke within 30 days. Be sure you buy an extended warranty. I was surprised, because I have always bought Cannon non-digitals and they were excellent. I still have a single reflex that is 20 years old and works great. I thought the digitals would be just as good. Probably too much out-sourcing.

Good camera

By Jack from New Jersey on 08/10/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Good camera but has some issues in my opinion. On a recent trip took over 2000 pics with my new camera. Some of the items I'm not happy with: sometimes if you turn the camera vertially to take a picture, the LCD screen goes black. It takes the picture but you can't see what you're doing. The stitch assist is very difficult to 'get into' to use it. On the postitive side, it takes terrific shots most of the time. The LCD screen is VERY easy & bright to view and see what you're taking a picture of. Although heavier than my earlier Canon -- its weight is actually a plus -- you know you're holding it. BEST thing is its 14x zoom (56x aggregate zoom capability). You've be amazed at what you can zoom into a picture you're taking.

I had Canon cameras in the past, so the picture quality, ease of use and performance were to be expected. Fantastic little camera

By Mike from Springville, UT on 08/10/2010

Pros:

Excellent Macro, 14x Optical Zoom, Image Quality

Cons:

Complex Menu, Flash

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've been in the professional photography industry for 35 years. I've used medium format and 35mm film cameras and professional digital cameras. I've printed millions of images from hundreds of professional photographers, photo hobbyists and amateur snap-shooters. I know what quality is and I know how a feature-rich camera can help create great images. The SX210IS is a high quality, feature-rich camera. I purchased the SX210IS because I needed a small, light-weight camera for mountain biking and hiking without the bulk and weight of my DSLR, not to mention replacement cost if broken. I reviewed, studied and handled several compact cameras and crossovers and the SX210IS is hands-down the right choice. Its light weight and compact size combined with all of it's features was perfect for my use on a mountain bike. The image quality from the 14.1 megapixel, 6.16 x 4.62 mm, 0.28 cm sensor is very good. It's image stabilization feature is great for shakey hands like mine. I have achieved sharp images almost every shot. If held correctly and and you control your shutter release finger you will get sharp images. The images are easily printable to 16x20 and can be pushed to 20x24 with very little image degradation. It's 5cm macro focus range is very good with sharp macro images. Battery life is acceptable but I recommend always carrying at least one extra fully charged battery. The large LCD screen is bright and easy to view. The menu is complex but with some practice getting into the most used features becomes easy. I'm amazed Canon can pack so much into such a small package and still have it create great images.

Very Good Camera in General, for a compact camera

By Sassy from Toronto, Ontario on 08/07/2010

Pros:

14 X Lense Zoom, 56 X Digital Zoom, Manual Or Auto Pop Up Flash Or Manual Disable, Compact Camera

Cons:

Watchout For The Lense When It Comes Out, Awful Orange Light When Taking Pictures., 3 1/2" Fully Extended Telescopiclenses, Missing Mini Hdmi To Normal Hdmi Cable

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a compact camera and not a digitalSLR. outperforms by far other brands. For a digital camera, it certainly perform better then other in it's price range. the image stabilizer is good and sometimes weak. it is the best compact camera for it's size. the next level up well does are SLR cameras. closes thing that fits in your pocket. out performs in some area than other cameras, but the best thing about it is the 14.1 mega pixel, auto pop up flash and then you say no flash by pushing it back in, or manually popping it up on the upper left corner. weird sometimes to hold the camera, due to the flash being there. good at recording 720p HD video. nice big screen to view your pictures or video on it. somewhat easy to explorer its features with the menu. automatically rotates the picture or video when reviewing pictures or video. good mini hdmi connector, to connect to the TV directly. the weight ratio of it is more light the heavy, but I find it somewhat balance. it has all the features that you really need for a camera / digital camcorder. awful orange light, when taking pictures. that is if you hold the button and then press down to take a picture. it kinda gives a heads up on a close range, hey I am taking a picture of you now. are you ready??? that little light beside the lense is really bright orange. just under the on/off button. as for my third digital camera, well it rocks. for a CANON I had 3 CANON digital cameras, and did do outperform the competition. I had another digital camera from a competitor, and I had a headache, so I stick with canon for pictures and video. You just got to learn the camera, and tweaking it. oh did I forget to say read the manual, it helps to understand the features of it. apart from that this Camera is another good product from CANON which are well known for their cameras and video. stick with what works good. if you need to send out a camera to repair for more then once, well that is a lemon. and this cam is not. it is a tank. it just takes time to adjust and learn the cam.

meh...

By bidaboo from purchased in NH, now in New Orleans on 08/06/2010

Pros:

Small Size, 14x Zoom, Kept Some Old Great Features, Manual Option, Easy To Use!, Hd Video

Cons:

Quality For Price, Photo Quality, Pop Up Flash Location, Small Microphone Capabilities, Extra Unneeded Features, No Manual!

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have always chosen Canon for my small, slip in your pocket, take photos every single day, digital camera. My last one being a powershot from a few years ago, I decided to buy the SX210 IS and was excited about the great zoom! I was using the camera for a wedding the day after I purchased it and quickly realized that the Canon quality i've come to rely on just was not there. The photos often came out blurry, the flash takes WAY too long to charge between photos, the pop-up flash is in the way of my fingers so that whenever i turn the camera on my finger stops the flash from coming up. I still haven't figured out how to do macro shots yet and it does not come with any directions/manual so i'm having to search the internet. I went with the more expensive camera and besides the 14xzoom there isn't much difference between this and the next step down. I am not totally disappointed, but I thought that the SX210 IS would be great- and it's just okay.

Can't Be The Same Camera

By Neoffyte from Undisclosed on 07/27/2010

Pros:

Well-built Materials, Size, Good Specs

Cons:

Poor Lcd, Off-colors & Blurry, Possibly Defective, Grainy Images

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased this camera last night. Charged, loaded and put it to the test: Absolutely the worst picture quality & LCD images. The LCD is full of noise, heavily pixelated, off-colors, and blurry. It hurts my eyes - but I snapped the pictures anyway. The pictures are better than the LCD but there's still a lot of graininess. I think I purchased a defective camera and will be returning it today. There's simply no way that my camera should have gotten any "good" reviews. I'm a long-time Canon user. I shoot SLR film, digital and use Adobe. I'm loyal to quality, not brand. That said, I like the size, features and materials used. If it worked well, it would be a good pocket "point & shoot" that has a few extra, but very limited, controlling features. I own several cameras. I've gotten good pictures even using a cell phone because I work within its limitations. This camera is a Ford Cobalt. It isn't expected to perform like a Porsche and right now, I just want the engine to start. I gave it 2-stars based on its potential.

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was considering to replace the model sx200, but after shooting a beautiful sunset this weekend, this camera did not match the feature "sunset" of the sx200. The colors of the sx210 were not as it appeared in the real sunset. The zoom is great, specially in movies

Very Good, but not Great!

By pdastoor from Toronto, ON, Canada on 07/19/2010

Pros:

Great Quality, 14x Zoom, Lpcm Audio

Cons:

Panorama

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very good camera. The 14x zoom and 14 mpx is truly great for its size. Lots of features and great low light mode. Very good on the noise reduction. However if this had a few more things then it would be the perfect camera (for me), lacking features that should be added with the next canon: - ISO upto 3400 - 1080 HD video (higher resolution like 1920...) - Sweep Panorama - Videos should be mp4/avi/mkv NOT mov - external microphone slot (would be really amazing) - case should be included in the box - a lens that you can look through & shoot so you don't have to use LCD screen

Good value, easy to use

By Murano from Near NYC on 07/19/2010

Pros:

Good Image Quality, Good Optical Zoom

Cons:

Clunky Ergonomics

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I agree with other reviewers who complained about the ergonomics of the camera. The flash pops up on power up and is a bit annoying, but you can hold your finger on the flash to prevent it from popping up. However, unlike the Rebels, the flash doesn't automatically pop up when needed - even in the full auto or easy mode. I really like the 14X optical zoom as well as the wide angle. I did notice some green fringing around white objects at maximum zoom. In general the lens is quite sharp even at maximum zoom. I was a bit disappointed in the auto focus. Recently, I was shooting in Maine, and in program mode, TV or AV modes, the auto focus did not function well when there was a lot of fog in the frame. Auto and Easy modes seemed to be able to lock on focus, however. One of my complaints centers around the function dial. The round knob is fairly small, and those with large fingers might find it difficult to grasp. The small diameter also means that you have to apply quite a bit of torque to move between modes. In addition, the "play" (review) button is placed where I often accidentally bumped it while changing modes. Others have also complained about the zoom mechanism, and I tend to agree. It, like the function dial, would be difficult to manipulate when wearing gloves. I find the function dial and zoom ring found on cameras such as my SD550 easier to use. I would like to have seen more options in the Program mode - similar to what you find on a Rebel. The SX210 only gives you one Program setting. These issues aside, I really do like the camera. I found the 720P video to be of much better quality than that found on competing point and shoot video cameras. This camera replaces my SD550 which has served me well and has taken more than 11K photos. And, the 550 will still be included in our family travels as my wife's camera, and a backup should there be a problem with the SX210

like a mini DSLR

By canonuser1996 from Undisclosed on 07/07/2010

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Lightweight/portable, Durable

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Short Battery Life, Poor Low-light Performance, Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an overall fabulous camera. The image quality and massive zoom is impossible to find on cameras of a similiar size. I used it right out of the box. My only problems with it were its short battery life, lack of features(like panorama, etc), difficulty with shutter speed at night(which come to think of it< is to be expected in any camera), and the fact that the interface is a little difficult to use. But still great!!!!

Good execution of a feature rich pocket camera

By randallintacoma from Tacoma, WA on 07/02/2010

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have owned and still own several Canon cameras. As the quality and feature set of compact cameras has improved in recent years, I have found that more and more the small camera is what I reach for rather than my older, larger models. The SX210 comes very close to filling the gap by employing a feature set nearly as complete as larger cameras with a photo and video quality that is also outstanding. I know there are tradeoffs in squeezing features from larger cameras into the form factor of the SX210. Some controls that are a simple button push on a large camera are a couple of buttons and a menu away on the SX210. This is acceptable for my photography needs. It might not be for you, so you should definately try out the SX210 before you buy. One trade off I am not happy about it the lack of a viewfinder. I like having the option to use one if I want. I also think the shutter button is more sensitive on the SX210 than any other Canon camera I've owned. It took a little getting used to and several wasted shots. Canon continues to excell with its menus. They are intuitive and easy to navigate. I love that the Mode Dial is hard to turn on the SX210, preventing accidental changes of mode. On the otherhand, the Control Dial is almost too easy to turn, but I love the animation of my pictures flying on and off the screen as I turn it. I appreciate that Canon has added support for Eye-Fi cards to the camera. An animated icon tracks when the card is wirelessly sending a copy of your picture to your computer or the web. I know that using Eye-Fi is an additional drain on the battery, but the little NB 5L has held up well. Kudos to Canon for trying to be green and minimize paper use. There is a printed quick start guide but the rest of your documentation is on the CD ROM. All in all, the SX210 is a good compact camera; easy to carry and easy to use. It has lots of capability as well but there is a learning curve to be able to find and utilize some of that power.

Excellent camera as good as digital SLR

By Mira B from Manhattan Beach, CA on 06/30/2010

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life, Good Low-light Performance, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Durable, Bright Lcd, Varieties Set Up Including Manual, Simple Controls/menu

Cons:

Macro Autofocus Not Working Quite Often, I Don't Like Pop Up Flash, Slow Shutter Lag

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

If I can only take one camera to carry with me this will be the one. Excellent all around. Amazing picture quality including sharpness of the lens. The 3.1 widest aperture helps depth of field a lot. 1600 ISO is great I can get great night life picture without using flash. 14.1 megapix make the 1600 ISO grain tolerable (correct easily in PS). BTW: people who complain about picture quality or screen not so bright should read manual (screen brightness is adjustable) and take some photography class and learn how to use advantage of the high ISO or just get the more simpler one for the amateur like the Powershot ELF. If you don't know how to work those buttons may be you shouldn't get this camera. I don't like pop up flash, shutter lag and the autofocus when I use Macro. It seems to miss with yellow "!" most of the time.

I got this to replace my ...

By 1982aimee from Boston, MA on 06/28/2010

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use

Cons:

Poor Image Quality, Dim Lcd, Poor Low-light Performance

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I got this to replace my Canon SD630. Its supposed to be in the advanced class but Im not sure it belongs there. Its used for random pictures and generally for concerts. The small compact size is what I was looking for, and of course the perfect high quality shots. I went to a show about a week ago and was unhappy with the shots from my SD630 after owning the T1i for 6 months. So for the next show I wanted to be sure I could get better quality. I have to say I was really disappointed. I used my SD630 at the show too and when looking at pictures from both cameras, I dont see too much of a difference. Im not familiar with terms but describing the time it takes to snap the photo without any movement of the subject was much longer than my other camera. The image quality was better but only if the subject didnt have much movement. I found with my SD that kids and pets mode worked the best. The LCD wasnt as bright and as crystal clear as my SD either and the pop up flash is annoying. I am now debating on whether I am going to keep this camera, if it is worth to replace my SD.

Disappointed

By Anonymous from Maryland on 06/26/2010

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life, Good Low-light Performance

Cons:

Complicated Controls/menu, Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was really disappointed with the Canon Powershot SX210. The pictures were not sharp and had a soft look to the picture indoor and outdoor. I thought the camera was defective and exchanged at the store for another one. When I got the new one home had same issue with a soft picture. I owned a Canon Powershot S50 5MP camera prior and it gave crystal clear images. I thought a 14 mp camera would be at least as clear if not clearer. Store will not accept a return now.

Excellent pocket camera

By EOS 5D from Littleton, Colorado on 06/24/2010

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Simple Controls/menu, Durable, Good Low-light Performance, Nice Features/settings, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Rather Small For Large Hands

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was concerned that the sand might harm my expensive digital SLRs, so we bought this just before a vacation trip to the beach. This is the fourth pocket digital I have owned in the past 10 years and it was very easy to use right out of the box. The controls are very intuitive and the manual is very helpful. Picture quality is amazing for a pocket camera as is the 14x optical zoom, which is like putting a 400 mm lens on my EOS 5D mkII. Also liked the HD movie capability. All in all I would have to say that this is a sweet little camera.

I LOVE THIS CAMERA. IT HAS EVERYTHING ROLLED INTO ONE. I HAD THE CANON SX 10,A GREAT CAMERA,BUT A LITTLE ON THE LARGE SIZE FOR CARRYING AROUND ALL OF THE TIME. THIS CAMERA DOES IT ALL AND THEN SOME. THE ONLY SMALL PROBLEM(NOTHING MAJOR) IS WHEN YOU TURN ON THE CAMERA YOUR FINGER KEEPS THE FLASH FROM OPENING AND THE BATTERY LIFE COULD BE LONGER. THIS SURELY ISN'T A REASON NOT TO BUY THE CAMERA. THE PRO OUT NUMBER THE CONS 100 TO 1.

Bottom Line:

I bought this camera for a trip to Yosemite and it totally outperformed my expectations. I took over 1,000 pictures and videos and nearly all of them were great. The whole trip I kept telling my wife "I can't take a bad picture!" Even in low light without the flash. The video is awesome too. I was walking up steep uneven terrain taking video and the optical image stabilization took out most of the movement...even when zoomed. And the 14x zoom is awesome too. This is a GREAT camera!!!!

Cons:

Bottom Line:

I ordered this camera before it appeared in the store because I needed a pocket size camera with a long zoom [14x] and high resolution [14mp]. Have been extremely satisfied with its size, performance and features, but the flash stopped functioning after about a month. On this model the flash pops up when the camera is turned on, and lowers automatically when it is turned off. It can be manually lowered, however. I hope this is not a weakness of this camera. My dealer replaced it on the spot since the camera was so new.

There is just one small flaw that bugs me, when holding the sx210 and you turn it on, you finger gets in the way of the flash lid flipping up. Not really a major busting point but enough to bother you a little bit... other then that this was my 3rd Canon camera, and best to date....

Bottom Line:

Been using the camera for a couple of days. Takes great photos and video. I love the long zoom in a camera of this size. I have to deduct 2 stars because of no viewfinder in a camera of this price and the stupid flash that's in the way of the left hand and pops up when the camera is turned on. Also, the on/off switch is hard to press as it is almost flush with the top of the camera. Need to use a fingernail to work it.

Cons:

Bottom Line:

I go to many concerts and needed a camera with good zoom and quality. This camera definately has that. Concerts have some pretty weird lighting, but the SX210 was perfect for all kinds. It has a wonderful low-light performance for darker settings. The video quality is excellent. Beautiful picture and pretty good sound, depending on the loudness of the band. It is also excellent for outdoor shots. The colors are beautiful and precise. I would recommend this camera for anybody who loves taking pictures, whether you are a beginner or an expert.

Cons:

Occasionally Casts A Lens Shadow, Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Amazing picture quality and excellent features. Adequate flash for dark settings, you can adjust it as well on manual mode. Although it's located on where you usually put your fingers, it is manageable. It does cast a lens shadow on some pictures when using the flash, but if you zoom to about 10cm the shadow disappears. I wish it came with a full printed manual. You should also learn more about the manual feature to maximize it's features. Overall, it's great for a point and shoot camera.

VERY S L O W ! ! !

By scottso from Southampton, NY on 04/27/2010

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

Slow

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This camera is to slow to be considered a camera - a sketch pad might be faster. There doesn't seem to be a buffer and the save time to the memory card is agonizing slow. This camera would never be able to handle sports or children playing - you'd miss too many shots. It's too bad because it has a lot of nice features in a small package. As a reference my G7 shoots twice as fast and its an older camera. Faster memory cards don't seem to help much. I shot with a Class 4 and a Class 6 - no noticeable change.

DO NOT USE THIS CAMERA WITH CANON'S CASE

By Rob from Tempe, AZ on 04/24/2010

Cons:

Unsafe Carrying Case, Flimsy Construction

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pre-ordered the SX210 IS last month and got it yesterday. Had also gotten a Canon PSC-3100 case for it. This morning before we left for a family event I put the camera in the case for the first time and realized it's too big for the camera. Took it anyway because I didn't have another case. Got to the event and five steps out of the car, the case opened and the camera flew out on the pavement damaging the corner and cracking the screen. What I've concluded is that the motion of the camera jostling around inside the case caused enough movement to fling the flap open. Have been a long time Canon customer and am HUGELY disappointed. The camera is a great product from what I saw last night, but am ENORMOUSLY DISAPPOINTED that it's already been dropped and broken due to using the maker's suggested case.

By Ron from 32169 on 04/22/2010

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Good Low-light Performance, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Complicated Controls/menu, Heavy/bulky

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Having read all of the other reviews here, I agree with most points made. I am having a particular problem with Flash shots of people being overexposed. Is anyone else having htis issue? I wrote to Canon, and they pointed out that I can go into manual mode and decrease the flash intensity. Thank you Canon, but I did read the manual and know that. I think any camera, in automatic mode, should not take overexposed photos. I own 4 Canon cameras now, and generally love their products. That being said, I am very disapointed with the flash based photos that I am taking with this camera. If I turn the flash off, the shots can be amazing, and the 1600 ISO shots have much less noise than in past models

Best of the 2010 compact megazooms

By Ryan from Undisclosed on 04/21/2010

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Good Low-light Performance, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The roster of new compact megazooms for spring 2010 is very impressive with all the major manufacturers coming out with hot new cameras. I waited to read the reviews from the earliest adopters (thanks all of you) before picking this Canon. The raw statistics were themselves impressive. The 14x zoom and 14 MP live up to the hype. I was super-impressed with how well I could "pull in" subjects across the field. But the other features of the camera make it a truly tremendous little package. And it is indeed little. It fit very comfortably in a cargo pant side pocket. Light and small. The dedicated video button is a great idea and made me more likely to shift to video than I would have been without it. Also, I love the old style mode dial. Much more convenient and easy to use than a menu driven system. That being said, the menus and the navigation dial are very well put together and easy to navigate. I love having manual focus, Aperture, Shutter, and Program settings like on an old camera, and I was thrilled to see that the changes in settings showed up on the LCD to simulate what the shot would look like. Super cool for an amateur photographer and will help me take better pictures in the future. The shutter speed is fast but still not SLR fast. The lag between shots is less than my previous camera but still not perfect. I like that you can shift back to the shooting screen before the previous image is finished writing to disk. Very strong low light performance. I was really surprised at how well it did in pub lit mainly by Christmas lights. I got very balanced shots when every other camera at the table was producing nothing worth keeping. I have not had much luck with the continuous shooting modes yet. I'll need to do a little homework to understand why those are not working for me. Also, I have not had success with shooting fast moving objects. The kids and pets mode was not fast enough for the zoo and I could not "outsmart" it with any of the manual settings. Finally, battery life is a point of concern. On my first long day of shooting, the battery signaled it was getting low before evening. I have ordered a backup battery to be sure that I won't run out of juice on a whole day away from home. I would have expected the battery to last a whole day no problem. Overall, I couldn't be happier. As long as battery life does not become a problem, it is a complete package and well worth the price in comparison to the other brands.

Great Small Camera

By Kitty from Cookeville, TN on 04/19/2010

Pros:

Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Nice Features/settings, Good Low-light Performance, Durable, Good Battery Life, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have used this camera for about a week and so far I love it. I have had several different kinds of cameras and this has been the easiest to understand by far. The users manual is written very well. I don't think a beginner would have any problem understanding their instructions. The movie feature on this camera compared to the others I've had is the best. The picture comes out so clear that I don't have a need for a camcorder. My husband got this for me and I am SO GLAD he did!

Would have kept it IF it didn't have a design FLAW

By jennra4 from Seattle, WA on 04/15/2010

Pros:

Good Low-light Performance, Durable, Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

Short Battery Life, Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Had the camera for about a month. I kept noticing a shadow at the bottom right of my photos. Turns out, when the lens is zoomed-out (so no zoom usage whatsoever), the lens is blocking part of the flash - hence, the shadow. There is an easy way around it - just zoom in a little. That being the case, I couldn't keep the camera because what if I forget to do so. Loved that it has a 14x optical zoom. The settings are self-explanatory. Wish the flash didn't popup since my finger's used to being there - but at least Canon thought ahead and allowed for the flash to be manually turned on/off (by lifting the flash up or down). One other thing - it's 3inch LCD yet when taking pictures, it's not being used to it's maximum capacity, hence the 2 black bars to the left and right of it. What's the point? I guess for video only? Overall I was content with the camera - minus the design flash/lens shadow issue, which to me, is a big deal. Waited months for this camera and now I have to keep searching for the one that fits my needs...

Not what i hoped

By BG from Undisclosed on 04/13/2010

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Durable

Cons:

Mixed Results, Poor Image Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased this camera to replace my beloved S3 that finally got the dreaded "lens error". What was appealing to me about this camera was it size, zoom and mega pixels. Maybe the jump to a smaller camera was too much for me because i had become used to the S3 but my wife and I both found the SX210 akward to hold and the flash is not in a good spot. I was hoping the size would be a benifit as it can easily fit in a pocket.... unfortunately thats not the case for me. The zoom lens was appealing to me as the S3 had a 10x zoom and the SX210 has 14x. Not sure what the equivalants are but I think they are pretty close. The SX210 zoom range was very good and the wide angle was very good as well. The zoom control button is a bit awkward too and the power button is very awkward. Picture quality with the SX210 was the real killer for us. Mixed results! Some pictures would be great others not so much. The amount of variation in the picture quality and color tones was vast even when shotting the same subject. Pictures looked soft most of the time. The camera also felt much slower than what I was used to and missed shots were common and frustrating. HD video quality was good but not great. The focus seemed to wander a bit too much when shooting videos at close distances. The build quality was very good. We really missed the vari angle LCD of the S3. The SX210 LCD is good but does not pivot, is hard to see outdoors and sits flush with the camera body making it prone to scratches. It would have been nice if it were recessed a bit. After a week of use I returned this camera and purchased SX20. Hope it performs better. In conclusion some of the problems I had with this camera were because I was just so used the bigger S3. I could have overlooked some of those issues if the performance had been there but it wasn't.

Happy!

By Saycheese from MD on 04/12/2010

Pros:

Durable, Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/menu, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life, Lightweight/portable, Good Low-light Performance

Cons:

Lcd Sharpness, Zoom Toggle!

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Menus are easy to follow, very happy to have some manual controls again. I don't like the zoom toggle, it's small and not the most comfortable to use - much better when zoom integrated with shutter button. Not a good experiment! I do wish Canon had upped the specs on the LCD - sharper viewing next time, please! Other than those two points I'm very pleased with this camera.

Very Impressive

By MC from Undisclosed on 04/02/2010

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a great point and shoot camera with lots of features. The smile-shutter feature works surprisingly well. The image quality is superb. There's all sorts of great settings like black and white, fisheye, etc. The zoom is a little slow, but it's 14x zoom in a point and shoot...it's great. After trying another brand, I went back to canon because of their image quality and this camera is no exception.

Good for Beginners

By Stung from Undisclosed on 04/01/2010

Pros:

Durable, Simple Controls/menu, Easy To Use

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Slow

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

As the title says, this camera is good for less experienced users from my hour of experience with the camera. First of all, the build-quality is excellent, the camera feels good, and it has an impressive size. Without any programmable buttons, the manual features are slow to use, and the shot speed is a bit slow which is typical of mega-zooms. The ISO lacks settings and does get to be more noisy compared to the S90. There are not too many white-balance settings either. I found the 14x zoom to be very slow, and the placement of the zoom to be awkward. The 16:9 monitor is another con, since 4:3 is more common. Overall, adjusting pictures on this camera to be perfect is a slow process and can easily caused missed shots and compositions. The HD, 4 extra megapixels, and tilt-shift/fish-eye modes does not make this camera worth it to someone who wants excellent and fast pictures. Although, it is much better for more casual users who would not be using the manual settings much. For a more advanced user, I'd recommend the S90 (especially with its F/2 lens) or G11 if not a dSLR.

Great Camera!!

Pros:

Easy To Use, Good Low-light Performance, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Durable, Excellent Image Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera is just great. Many features of an SLR in a small unit. Great photop results in all situations. Easily changable manual settings as well as great auto and semi auto functions. Nice and sturdy. The flash position is a little strange but it is no real hassle. I like the pop up automatic flash in that it can be manually opened and closed as well. I am totally happy with it. And the price is excellent for what you get. Such great photos and features. The HD video is a plus as well and has stereo audio.. I would not hesitate to buy one if you want a new camera.

I have been waiting for the PowerShot SX210 IS to be released for months now, I finally got it yesterday and I'm so happy! I have had many digital cameras over the years and canon is by far my favorite, very easy to use. Although with all the features this may take a bit. I'm very excited about the zoom and the 14MP in this camera.

Will Be Camera Of The Year!!!

By Pinky1001 from Cape Coral, FL on 03/24/2010

Pros:

Good Low-light Performance, Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Durable, Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

"This camera is such a wonderful unit. It replaces my Canon S80 (8.3 mp) that I purchased about 4 years ago. My new SX210 was put through many trials in the last 48 hours. Low light, running dogs HD movie in stereo, many zoom trials at Marco Island, stich assist for 360 degree panorama etc,etc.. I still can't believe the quality pictures I'm getting. Will be printing some on my 13" by 19" printer. I can enthusiastically recommend this camera to the novice who knows next to nothing about digital cameras -- all the way up to the professional that would like an extremely capable camera to carry in their shirt pocket. The 14 megapixel by 14x optical zoom to 56x total is great. See pictures I will try to upload. I love my 14 by 14 !!!!!!!!!!!!"

Awesome pocket zoomer

By Mike from Chicago, IL on 03/24/2010

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life, Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Manually Raising And Lowring The Flash Is Awkward

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've had this camera for a week, and it's a joy to shoot with. I had the SX200, but I sold it so I could buy this one. It is definitely slimmer, and easier to slide in and out of a pocket than the SX200. The SX200 was perhaps a bit cooler-looking on the outside than the SX210 (to my taste), but I really appreciate that this model is slimmer. Also, the new manual controls on the SX210 seem much more intuitive to me, which I like. Overall, I'm glad I made the upgrade.

pretty exciting 14x zoom in such small form factor. But where is view finder and GPS? No matter how good the LCD display it is no good in bright sunlight when it is behind you. I know I cannot be the only one that needs to have one of these.

Great Zoom, Video and PRO feautures

By Paipuky from Eustis, FL on 03/21/2010

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Good Low-light Performance, Durable, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After waiting a couple of months for this camera, thank GOD I finally got it yesterday. This camera is replacing my great SD880IS. I've been testing it in different situations and have found it very impressive. If you liked the previous SX200, then you'll love this one. Nicer body style, it feels light, yet powerful. Flash can be hidden if not needed (not available before). It has so many options, Pro and beginner, like being able to manually adjust exposure, aperture, shutter speed are a big plus. Of course the greatest feature of this camera is the zoom, you get 14x optical plus 4x digital for an awesome 56x in total with great picture quality (I tested it today taking pictures of a bald eagle outdoors, amazing) Another great feature is HD video with stereo audio, which I tested this morning with a Mockingbird singing outdoors, stereo audio is great and video quality is very good and best of all, you get to use optical and digital zoom in video! Like I said, I've had this camera just for two days, but as of now, I love it. Made in Japan =) It has so many options to play with, it will take me a couple of days/weeks to take full advantage of it. Some of the cons I've seen are the widescreen, at some point is wasted because not all of it is used in normal use; I like better the regular 3" screen on my SD880. Still missing in-camera panorama feature. No HDMI cable included. You cannot erase images by date, instead you can erase within a range (start-end). On the black camera, you get some visible fingerprints (if that bother you). Compared to my SD880IS, this one is missing the Audio-only recorder (no big deal though). Overall, great advanced point and shoot camera! Even-though it may look expensive, all its features/quality may pay for it. Easy to use with Professional features and awesome zoom. It feels very solid and durable. As always CANON rocks!

Canon I hope you are reading this. WHERE IS THE "Vari angle LCD". Without it while your offerings are good, they are no longer great, and you become just one of the other guys. Yes the new "wink" feature is cool, but your older "A" series was the best value ever. With the ability to shoot from angles (otherwise only available if you carry a latter around or be willing to get on the ground for a shot) a Vari angle LCD brings out the curative genius in all who use this feature. BRING IT BACK. Yes I know it's on the "G11" but it needs to be made available at a lower price point ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
