Great beginner purchase

By Alex from Leavenworth, KS on 06/22/2015

Ordered this camera around a year and a half ago as my first SLR and am now just moving on to the Canon 70D. Great starting camera! Simple enough to use but also takes great photos in the process. Not the fastest to focus or sharpest when it comes to action but a great camera for landscape and portraits!

Difficult to use

By Will from Stuart, Fl. on 05/26/2015

I've had a Rebel T3i for about a year. It will not take a picture that is any further then 30-49 feet. Beyond that, the image is tiny and not magnified. I have tried every trick I know. Changing lenses is useless. The 5x & 10x enhances the image only on the display screen. The actual picture is terrible and not at all enlarged. Every single time I use it, I'm disappointed.

Great Camera

By Cyberpip from Florida on 03/29/2015

Have owned this camera for 4 years now. It has proven to be a versatile and very usable camera. Fast focusing and a fairly accurate metering system. It impressed me from day one. Light weght and comfortable to hold. I own other canons to include the 6D and 70D, but I still find myself gra bing this one for a days shooting simply because I am so used to it. It has never let me down.

The Little Camera That Can

By Writerdad from Detroit, MI on 03/26/2015

While I'm a newcomer to the world of DSLR photography, I can't help but praise the capabilities of this amazing camera. it many of the features featured in more upscale cameras, but it's user friendly controls make learning its operation a snap. That said, you can take some amazing shots with the T3. I know because I have!

Best Entry Level Camera

By Gerard from Canoga Park, CA on 03/23/2015

The Canon T3i for me is the best camera for DSLR beginners. The articulated screen is so convenient especially in hard angled views. the kit lens that comes with it will be a good practice lens. I am using this camera for low light shooting and astrophotography and am really happy with the results. I'm sure this camera would last long when properly cared and maintained.

Worst camera purchase ever

By Cedric from Washington, D.C. on 12/24/2014

I have had the camera for two years, had to return it twice for defects under warranty, the first time one month after purchasing it because a glitch in the software made it impossible to eject the SD card. Now, I have to send the lens in, (third service request), because a screw has gotten loose and rattles inside, messing up the autofocus function, and at times blocking the manual adjustment altogether. In addition, from the beginning, there were multiple times when the focus just goes in and out, for ever, and makes it impossible to actually release the trigger. Needless to say, many great shots were missed because of this inability to simply shoot. I have had to disable automatic focus. But then again, it is easy to forget that I am no longer on automatic focus, and have to manually focus instead. Result: pictures end up being fuzzy. In short, this camera is a huge waste of time and money.

GREAT CAMERA

By Casual photo bug from Southeast on 09/02/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Previously had a Canon Rebel and burned through quite a few rolls of film over the years but it took great pictures on vacation and of family events. WOW ... the Canon T3 DSLR is fantastic. Really great pictures and ease of use. I'm not a professional photog by any means but with this camera you can with a little imagination take some really good shots. I would recommend this camera especially for someone who is use to point and shoot cameras and wants to step up to a real camera.

I got this camera with ...

By Lucy from Georgia on 08/20/2014

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Superior Build Quality, Good Battery Life, Lightweight/portable, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu

Cons:

Poor Image Quality, Low Quality Burst Mode, Noisy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I got this camera with the 18-55mm kit lens and the 75-300mm kit lens in a big bundle which included a flash, a camera bag, two extra batteries, a memory card.. etc. I had been looking at the T3i before this, but after seeing the bundle and reading dozens of positive reviews, I went with this one. So far, the battery life is great, the features (although I'm still figuring out Manual mode) are excellent, and the overall camera build is perfect for my small hands. My only complaints are: 1. the quality in burst mode / when shooting sports (I outdoor rock climb) is not too grand. Lots of blurry images and it tends to turn the flash on in broad daylight--thus throwing me and my friends off the rock. 2. Auto-focus is unbearably slow in live view. Don't even try. The auto focus in the view-finder is much better, although it won't focus quickly (or sometimes at all) on moving subjects! It may not sound like it, but I do LOVE this camera! I only started photography about 2 years ago, and upgraded to this from a point and shoot. GREAT first DSLR, and I do recommend it for macro photography, portrait photography, etc. Maybe not professional sport photography, but hey! You could certainly make it work with the large number of settings on this camera.

Very satisfied

By dran_reb from Wisconsin on 08/19/2014

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/menu, Accepts Wide Range Of Lenses/accessories, Quick Start-up Time, Superior Build Quality, Bright Lcd

Cons:

Heavy/bulky, Neck Strap Uncomfortable

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The T3i is a great choice for an entry-level DSLR and I am extremely satisfied with the purchase. I have been amazed at the image quality, whether using an automatic mode, being fully creative in manual mode, or anything between. This is my first DSLR and yet it's making me look like a "pro" already with little experience. The difference between this camera and an average cheap point-and-shoot or smartphone camera is huge. I would recommend this camera to anyone, especially those new to DSLRs. The controls and menus are well thought-out and easy to use, so you can quickly and easily experiment with different settings to learn more about how they affect the photos. The instruction manual is well-written. One of the reasons I chose the T3i over some other similar Canon cameras was the swivel LCD display. It turns around to protect the screen during storage, and it can help you see what you're doing if you need to reach over a fence, wall, crowd, etc. or use a short tripod. This camera has so far been very fun to use and has given me zero frustration, unlike every other camera I've ever owned. I am more excited about photography than ever, thanks to this camera. It is nice to know that if it ever comes time to step up to another Canon body, I can still use the same lenses and accessories that I use with my T3i.

AWESOME T3I

By CW3 ARMY from Maryland on 08/18/2014

Pros:

Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Solid Operation, Simple Controls/menu, Superior Build Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Sorry No Cons Here :-(

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought my T3I a couple years ago and have had nothing but fun ever since. Now my hobby is 100% taking pictures. I love it. I love learning everything about this camera. I'm so proud after posting a picture to the different social networking sites and friends responding how beautiful my pictures are. I like my camera more than I do most DSLR cameras popping out onto the online stores & market. I am a Canon owner for life. Now that I am on 100% disability I've learned to take up my spare time being 'creative'. I can be totally upset and go off to the local park and start taking pictures and forget the bad things that life throws your way. Thanks to ALL the Quality Control specialists that work for Canion. Like I said in the beginning, I have NEVER had an issue with my T3I and can't find anything negative online about my (T3I) camera. When I get the money I will upgrade to the 70D (an old mans dream). Something to hope and wish for, I'll keep saving and maybe get one before I pass on. My T3I will goto a grandson who also enjoys my photography hobby. Sorry this was so long of a review but really just a tip of the iceberg on how I feel about my camera. Best of luck to all new and old photographers out there with YOUR Canon camera. A special thanks to Canin for making such a great product!!

By Hackbarth14 from Wisconsin on 08/05/2014

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Good Looking, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera a little while ago and I have just been waiting for it to disappoint me before I gave it five stars. But it honestly hasn't. My family and I take trips all the time and this is the main reason I wanted a nicer camera and I found that since I have bought this camera I bring it with me everywhere because it takes such great pictures. I absolutely love it. Also I saw that there was another person who said they could not use their camera with mac. I don't know if they are talking about a macbook or not but I had a 2010 macbook and I just recently got a macbook air and I can plug my camera into both of them. Thats just my experience with it.

Great camera with a caveat

By Stretch from Michigan on 07/06/2014

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Superior Build Quality, Bright Lcd, Quiet

Cons:

Not For Mac Users

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was very excited to get my EOS Rebel T3. It seems to have everything I need to actively pursue my hobby in retirement. My only disappointment is that I cannot attach the camera to my Mac because there is no recognition of the camera. I have to take the disc out of the camera and insert it into the computer to use the software that came with the camera. If I use my PC based camera I have no problem.

I've owned and used an ...

By Scorer61 from Baltimore County, MD on 06/08/2014

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use, Quick Start-up Time, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've owned and used an AE-1, FTb, and EF for over 30 years. I finally decided to make the switch to digital about 6 months ago when my equipment got water damaged because of an unknown roof leak in my storage closet. I bought the T3 because I haven't been actively taking pictures for a while and I did not want to spend a lot of money to get into digital. Now, I'm hooked on photography again. I'm trying to get used to all the features and menus. So, I feel like a novice photographer again, but I'm having a great time. I'm not ready to upgrade yet, but I can see it happening someday and it will be another Canon camera. The T3 is definitely what I want for now.

Great starter camera, nice as a back-up too.

By bleudawg14 from Augusta, Georgia on 05/08/2014

Pros:

Super-sharp Images, Light To Carry, Very Inexpensive, Good Battery Life, All My Lenses Fit It

Cons:

Not Weather Resistant

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an ENTRY level DSLR. Yet, it performs very well. The 12.1 MP sensor provides very nice, sharp pictures, with a low amount of noise (grainy). All 105+ Canon EF and EF-S lenses will fit it. When I put my 24-105mm red ring ( "L") lens on it, the results are difficult to distinguish from my higher end cameras. I will recommend this Canon T3 to anyone just starting in photography, or if you are making the switch from a P&S camera. The learning curve is VERY short as well, just put it on Auto Mode and you have instant success with very sharp, clear pictures. When you add to your collection of lenses, the quality of your pictures goes up as well. I highly recommend this camera.

great camera price

By photographer from south carolina on 04/23/2014

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu, Quick Start-up Time, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought this camera in the summer of 2012 and it's a spectaculer camera for its price. i got intrested in photography and after looking at prices and other cameras, i chose the rebel t3. WARNING: THIS IS NOT A CAMERA FOR A PRO! Don't get me wrong, i LOVE this camera and have taken great photos with it. i mostly use it for nature photos and it has given me the quality i need. this is a great camera for the hobbyist, the casual user, and even for the lower end of advanced amateurs. i would not advise it for sports, major/pro photography, or videography. though it misses the quick dials dedicated buttons on non-rebel canons, you get where you can change the settings quickly and without looking away from the veiw finder. it's a great camera if you want to have something to hold onto and to hear that cla-click but you're not quite ready to let go of your point-and-shoot. great camera, but if you're planning on doing pro photography, i'd advise you check out the t4i and t5i if you're going rebel, but if you're fine with the complete D seires, i'd say look at the 7d, 5d, 70d, and 60d as well.

Had a hard time giving up ...

By Old Man from MB on 02/19/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Had a hard time giving up my film. Glad i did. The camera is good value for the cost. There was enough to catch my attention and stay with it. I was suprized at the picture quality that "this cheap camera" could put out. I have given up on film and staying with this for a few months. Until i am more relaxed with this camera and upgrade to a better body. This will be passed on to a grandchild so they can start. Do your self a favour if you can afford to and buy some good glass as these can be used when you upgrade your camera body. I am having a lot of fun with this trying the different filters and I even have had no problems using this in -40 degree for extended time (5-6 hr.) The battery lasts a decent amount of time. If you are not sure about pictures i would say to you to buy this over a point and shoot. You can do so much more.

Great Camera!

By Jess from Chicago, IL on 01/22/2014

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I had wanted this camera for about 2 years before I actually made the decision to purchase it. And I am so happy I did! I did a lot of research before I bought it, this being my first DSLR. I decided this was the correct decision for my level of expertise and what I wanted to shoot. The controls are very easy to understand but still have enough complexity to make it different than your basic point and shoot digital camera. This camera is an amazing learning tool and perfect for many levels of photographers.

Too bad the software doesn't work.

By Nomad from Central PA on 12/08/2013

Cons:

Software Is Out Of Date.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I might be a lot happier if the software I spent 30 minutes installing on my Macintosh (EOS Utility) worked instead of telling me, right out of the box, that "Cannot be used with this version of the operating system." On the other hand, maybe the software isn't as good as Graphic Converter, so I wouldn't be any happier.

Great camera

By cuevl from Leeisville, Texas on 12/07/2013

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use

Cons:

Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Purchased this as my first dslr and have been very pleased. I bought this model over other higher models mainly because I didnt require those better features. I accomplished what I wanted with this camera and it exceeded my expectations. Picture quality was great, features were great, and of course at a good entry level price. As time passed i began to master many of the controls and features and got the most out of it. It was at this point that I started discovering the cameras limits. The focus system tended to be slow at time and very frustrating making me miss the shot. Low light gave it trouble but that was to be expected. The lack of being able to fire an off camera flash was another con. Again though still a great camera for the money and the picture quality was great. Sure it has its limits but again for this being an entry level I think it serves it purpose just right.

First dSLR is a winner!

By deadfoot13 from Endicott, NY on 11/08/2013

Pros:

Easy To Use, Quick Start-up Time, Solid Operation, Superior Build Quality, Lightweight/portable, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my first dSLR after many years of using point-and-shoot cameras from the PowerShot series. I was reluctant to venture into dSLR ownership because the models I had opportunity to actually use were bulky and heavy, and I didn't want to go back to the days of lugging around all of the gear that goes with an SLR. I came across this camera by accident, and the package deal that came with it was too good to pass up, so on a whim I decided to get my first "big girl camera" -- I have never been so pleased with an impulse purchase as I am with this camera! It's the perfect size (my hands are small), with the grips and shutter in logical places, and lightweight enough to be comfortably carried on a long hike. The picture quality is outstanding, with a variety of options for as little or as much control as the user desires. I purchased this camera in September, so I'm reserving opinion on the learning curve -- the first time I put it in manual mode, I found the settings display to be a little intimidating and got so lost in figuring out how to change the settings that my subject matter wandered away and disappeared before I could take the picture. I am extremely impressed with the battery life -- I spent a whole day taking pictures, almost 800 shots, and the battery was still well above the halfway point (I should note that I use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen, other than for changing the settings or taking a shot with the camera in a place that my head won't fit.) It starts up fast when it is turned on, as well as recovering from power-saving mode. I have experienced the refusal to take a picture mentioned by another reviewer, but not to the degree that it couldn't be quickly corrected by moving slightly and refocusing -- it seems to happen when I am too close to a subject for the lens that I am using. This is my third Canon, and I continue to be extremely pleased with the quality and performance of their products.

Good entry level

By Baby Snapper from Las Vegas, NV on 10/15/2013

Pros:

Quick Start-up Time, Solid Operation, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Noisy, Poor Image Quality, Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great for beginners! I bought this to take pictures of my new baby and have been relatively pleased. Overall, it's been great and I have gotten some great images. Now that I've been using it for 6 months it leaves some things to be desired. Here's a list of my gripes; 1: kit lens. Gives you tack sharp images maybe 1 in 5 shots 2: high ISO gives a lot of noise 3: metering: I find myself having to meter the sky and use exposure compensation of -2 stops with a circular polarizer just to get the sky not to blow out and loose data. Fixable in post but annoying.

I am glad I bought this camera, I go out once a week and look for things to shoot. I never thought I could take a good picture but the t3 is easy to use even in manual mode. I am disabled in a wheelchair so a heavy camera bag is out of the question, the t3 even with my 75-300 lens on is very comfortable. I cannot think of a bad thing to say about this camera. I did not get out very much until I bought this camera, now I cant wait to go out and find something to photograph, and I have met some very nice people also photographers. I do admit to lens envy I do want some L glass for my camera.

Best EOS camera for beginners and Video Makers

By Erin from NY on 09/20/2013

Pros:

Excellent Quality Videos, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Quick Start-up Time

Cons:

Heavy/bulky, Zoom Shaky In Videos, Zoom Loud In Videos, Noisy, Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I LOVE this camera! I was hesitant to purchase at first because of the price, but I am so glad I did. I do mostly video and candid photos. This camera is easy to use and takes amazing photos and HD 1080 videos. My only con is that is that the zoom is loud and "piecy" in videos. I would suggest getting multiple batteries also because battery life is short for long videos.

Excellent DSLR!

By Outpat from New Bern, NC on 07/16/2013

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/menu, Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use

Cons:

Noisy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This was (is) my first DSLR and I absolutely love it. Sure, a 7D would be nice; but for someone who doesn't want to spend 1.5k+ on a camera, this is a wonderful alternative. It's worked very well for me, and I don't think I've had one "glitch" or technical issue with it thus far. My only problem with this body is the sound the shutter makes--I really get annoyed by that squeaky sound (as opposed to a simple "click") and I often find myself self-conscious and paranoid that others will get annoyed by it as well. This is a very minor issue, however--and if that's the only problem I have with it, I'd say that's pretty awesome. I've had this camera for about a year now and haven't noticed it being any different from when I first purchased it (and I've used it almost daily). It's lasted me this long and I expect that it will last me at least a few more years--and if it does, I'll gladly stick with it until I run across an issue. I honestly love this camera.

Pros:

Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life, Quiet, Quick Start-up Time, Nice Features/settings, Solid Operation, Superior Build Quality, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

I like the ease of use of this camera. The only thing I would like to have added to the camera is simpler set of instructions for some of the more unconventional functions.

Cons:

Bottom Line:

I often have photography jobs, and I use this specific body for almost all of them. The camera is easy to use, compared to most. Its been over a year and I have had no problems, no broken buttons, no failures in features. It still works as thought I just bought it. Easy to add attachments, and easy to remove lenses. Recommended for a beginner or an expert!

Extremely long battery life

By Nokia 808 from Honolulu, HI on 07/07/2013

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Solid Operation, Superior Build Quality, Simple Controls/menu

Cons:

Low Resolution Screen

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this for my college graduation. However this end up to be my travel mate. Extremely long battery life. I charged the battery for my 2 weeks trip and battery last throughout the trip. Actually it last for almost 2 months! Excellent image quality. I can live with its ISO 3200 Very easy to use control and button. The 50mm F1.8 lens is a must buy. Excellent in low light, sharp, and awesome bokeh! The only drawback is its low resolution screen, but that's OK with its price range. May be Canon use this to save power for its long battery life! The Red and Brown color T3 look pretty nice! Too bad I already had the black one.....

Great Camera For A Rookie

By frankandlynn from Southeast Ohio on 06/17/2013

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We bought the Rebel T3 1100D kit and added the 75-300MM lens about a week ago. We wanted a decent camera, but also wanted something that would take good photos of our back yard birds. We know next to nothing about DSLR cameras,so we researched before we bought and also went through the manual during the first day while charging the battery. The first day we got photos of a robin in the bird bath and the image is so clear that the water is captured on the inmate as droplets instead of streaks. Most of the technical jargon is a mystery to us, but we're able to pick up on the basics of taking pictures. We think we could have gone with a competitor and been fine, but we're more than pleased with what we ended up with.

Excellent for what it is

By auxvasse1 from Mesa, AZ on 06/09/2013

Pros:

Fast Auto-focus, Great Entry Level Dslr, Superior Build Quality, Super-sharp Images

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Keep in mind this is Canon's entry level DSLR, not a 5D or a 7D. Image quality is good for a 12.2 MP camera. Low light performance is good with reasonable noise levels at high (1600+ ISOs). Sharpness isn't what you get from an 18 MP camera, but perfectly acceptable unless you're printing at poster-size. Produces very sharp 11 x 14 prints. It's not the heavy duty body that a 7D is, but it's not supposed to be. This is a very competent entry-level DSLR. I use this a s the camera that's always in my backpack for quick, clean shots.

Good for Amateurs but Couldl Be Better

By Jeremy from Undisclosed on 06/03/2013

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Simple Controls/menu, Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use

Cons:

The Flash Flashes Twice Before Taking A Picture, Noisy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera and in my opinion it's a very good investment especially if you are an amateur photographer. The main cons would be that the flash flashes twice before taking a photo (it flashes every time it focuses) and I really don't enjoy how pictures turn out with flash. However, it is a lightweight camera with in-camera editing if you're on creative mode and it is very easy to use.

My first DSLR

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Solid Operation, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Canon cameras are not new to me, but this is my first DSLR, and I love it! I am only just beginning to discover everything it has to offer and I am always learning new tricks and things to do. It takes amazing photos very quickly, which is a must when I am chasing around my toddler! Auto focus takes a long time with the Lcd screen open but works great with it closed. I don't really get it but now I always photograph like that. I love this camera so much and plan on using it for a.long time!

Lovely pictures erect from this camera. It is so simple to use. The quality of the pictures in immeasurable. The camera excels in taking pictures without flash in dark or dimmer settings. Great entry-level camera

By Lurcus from New York, NY on 05/22/2013

Pros:

Unexpensive, Good For Stills And Videos, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Noise, Missing Features/settings, Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Some controls, like color temperature, are too tricky to reach inside the menus, 1-2 more buttons on the body would have been a very good thing. Holding the camera, you have a really plasticky feeling, far from professional grade build quality. Especially in video mode, in the dark areas of the frame, image is quite noisy even at low ISO and some useful features are obviously missing, compared to the higher end models, but other than that, which has to be expected, I consider this camera, at present, one of the best purchase in the EOS lineup, considering how much its price has dropped. Absolutely no need to go for a t4i or t5i, especially if you are interested in shooting videos.

best camera for me

By SIR SHOOTS A LOT from El Paso Texas on 05/09/2013

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Solid Operation, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Nice Features/settings, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Dim Lcd

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My first canon camera was a AE-1 which I still have. that camera is over 40 years old and still works perfectly. I was using a canon sx100 Digital point and shoot then moved to this T3i WOW what a difference. I am a Professional photographer that shoots a lot of outdoor / indoor events, having the live view and also having an articulating screen for shooting at raised arms length to get the shot is amazing. Often I must stand behind someone in the crowd and shoot over the top of them to get the shot I am looking for. What a difference having the articulating screen makes. In the first year of owning this camera I have taken well over 20,000 pictures. I go into Mexico on roads most would call a wagon trail rough bumpy dusty my camera bag has been tossed around in the back of a vehicle getting to the shoot. I have been in very dusty hot conditions. This camera is still going. After two plus years my camera still looks new it does not show any signs of wear.Canon says operating temp for this camera is 104 degrees my camera has been locked in a vehicle for security reasons with outside temps soaring 110+ inside car is scorching. Other times I have had camera in the cold for hours well below -15 F It works in all and any condition I throw at it. Battery life is very good for me as I shoot about 500-600 a weekend on 1 battery 1 charge.Between 550-600pics I must change to my second battery. I shoot the highest jpeg file that the T3i has which is just under the raw setting so my files have a lot of info and this camera gives me the best performance. The only thing bad is if I forget to recharge the battery that is why I care two battery with me at all times. Due to lots of night and low light photography I use the canon 430 II flash. Can not say enough on how great this product is. This is a great beginners camera to a Pro looking for a lighter camera. the LCD screen is hard to see in direct sun light that is the only flaw I have seen in all the time I have owned and used this camera.

Awesome deal for the price

By Tnt1007 from Southgate MI on 04/23/2013

Pros:

Bright Lcd, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Lightweight/portable, Superior Build Quality, Quick Start-up Time

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Noisy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

For my 1st DSLR it's well worth the price.i just got it a few days ago and am very happy with its performance. It will take me awhile to learn all the features on it. I also added the 75-300 mm lens as well. Worth the extra money for the zoom. Tonight I was playing with the macro lens, have never used one before. My photos actually turned out pretty good for not knowing anything really about macro photography. Love the size of the LCD screen, not too big or too small. Only thing I wish it had was a "color selection " like some other name brand models. Also it is a little noisy compared to others but its not annoying. Had it had this I would have given it 5 stars all the way cross.

Bottom Line:

Great step-up from my XTI which I gave to my brother with 2 Canon Lenses, the 18-55IS and a 28-135IS lens. Bought an after market Battery Grip and have two batteries in it, plus 6 AA Batteries in the spare carrier. Stills are amazing up from 10.6 Megapixils. I also wanted to use my existing lenses so I did not go full sized sensor. Also did not want to spend 2X to get a T4i as the T3i is really awsome. As a Lifetime Canon Shooter (going back to the AE1) I really like how this series of cameras is going!

Pros:

Quiet, Nice Features/settings, Superior Build Quality, Solid Operation, Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time

Bottom Line:

I have had my T3i for a year now. It has yet to fail me. I recently purchased a 70-300 is usm lens. I took the camera to the Nashville Predators hockey game a few weeks ago with my new lens. Did not use the flash, handheld and the photos are stunning. Even when shown on a 50" plasma they are incredible. I very seldom use the lcd except to review photos so my battery life is superb. I have friends that are amazed at the quality. I gave a black and white photo enlarged to 30"x40" of an old barn to a friend of mine and he was amazed there was no pixilation. Truly amazing tool when you take the time to learn all of its features.

By lancealot from Jacksonville, Florida on 04/15/2013

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Bright Lcd, Excellent Image Quality, Solid Operation

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I upgraded from my first DSLR, Canon T3. You may think they are the same cameras but they are more different than you know. Better sensor and more megapixels. better build, better SD card placement, better LCD and screen that can tilt and not to mention that the image quality is better. As far as the movie mode I can't speak on this cause its not a camcorder in my eyes not that it can't do it, Just that i didn't buy this to take movies. But would recommend this to anyone looking for a solid DSLR and know that this product will out last the period you will own it.

Cons:

Noisy, Poor Build Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

For my first DSLR camera, the T3 jumped above the rest simply for the extremely appealing price. Although the build quality does not feel up to par while in hand, and the loud, high-pitched shutter sound are quite frustrating, overall, I can say nothing else bad about it. It gets the job done and is just a fun camera to use for the cheap price.

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Solid Operation, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Quiet

Cons:

Dim Lcd, Difficult To Use, Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

For an entry level camera I found this to be a good buy. Having researched the alternatives as best I could the canon t3 won out for its wider lens options. The one thing I would like to see is more support for mac os 10.8 since none of the software is compatable which is a bummer. Also more detailed information on what each function does and how to access it would have been greatly appreciated. The pictures I have been able to take with my novice experience has me speachless. I would recommend this to anyone starting out in the field.

Bottom Line:

This is a very good camera and the build quality is very good, yes the camera could be more solid but we are talking about a beginner camera and an entry level camera. I've shopped and did a lot of research and was very pleased on this camera what the pro's and real people were saying about it. I presently bought the Canon ef 40 mom f/2.8 stem and boy what awesome picture that lens and camera is taking. I would highly recommend to get away from the kit lens as soon as you can. There will be a world on a difference. Don't miss out on the quality of this camera, you won't be sorry.

i just bought the T3 some few weeks ago - and i should say, i love it. it easily replaces my existing sets of Point and Shoots. For the past 15 years - i moved between the other brands as well as Canon Powershot S10, but when i got the opportunity to upgrade, the T3 purchase was a great investment. My daughter who is 10 year old uses this more often than me - shows how easy to use the product.

Both are a great combination with the camera and perform great. I take this camera to almost everywhere, from a camping trip to a beach trip. If you are looking for a great beginners camera for a great price. This would is a very good option.

Great Camera

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my first DLSR and it can seem very overwelming to understand everything that it does. Dont worry there is alot of You Tube videos on how to use it and what everything means. If this is your first DSLR at first your going to think OMG but just take your time with it. There is no way you will figure it out in couple hours. It will take you months. ::)) That is the fun of too. The OS software if very easy to understand once it is explained to you. This new display Looks very very nice. Have Fun with the number 1 rated camera out there today for 2012.

Wonderful Camera

By Nuke365 from San Diego on 12/22/2012

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/menu, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Poor Quality, Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This camera worked wonderfully, taking great pictures and outstanding video, until it broke after 8 uses. Quality of the product is below par, having lasted less than 5 months (400 -600 pictures) Battery life is a little poor, when shooting video, but a spare battery will overcome this shortfall and is a great accessory.

Rubber Grip

By eb from San Diego, CA on 12/09/2012

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Quick Start-up Time

Cons:

Missing Rubber Textured Grip, Poor Build Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Just purchased the T3 bundle from a department store (2 lenses 18-55mm and 70-300mm, starter lenses). The camera is very powerful and has lots of features. The one thing that surprises me is the lack of a rubber textured grip. I have a Canon T50 (yes, its old and it works fine) and that camera has a GREAT rubber grip. Why did Canon exclude a rubber textured grip on the T3? I cannot think of a single reason to exclude a rubber textured grip.

Bottom Line:

Great introductory SLR camera with quality video. I love it as an on-the-go camera as it is very flexible for transitioning between photos and videos during events and I always get great shots and 15-20 minute video. The auto-focus can be really helpful in strange lighting, and it shoots incredible in the dark without a flash.

Very Nice Camera!

Pros:

Quiet, Solid Operation, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Superior Build Quality, Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have had my Rebel T3 for about a year now and I am very happy. Being my first DSLR camera I found this to have a solid build and alot of settings that I haven't had the chance to explore yet. The camera takes very sharp pictures. I like to take alot of outdoor pictures and It just performs great. Now I am looking to buy another lens for my camera and I plan to stay with the canon brand because I like their quality. The controls aren't hard to figure out and the booklet and cd that came with the camera helps you to understand how it operates. You cannot go wrong buying this camera it's worth every dollar. I would definetly recommend this camera to my friends.

Not So Good

By RockLives from South Florida on 11/27/2012

Pros:

Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Very Slow Automatic Focusing

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is my 3rd EOS. The automatic focus has to search way too long. The 18-55 Is Lens is made cheaply, and is slow in focusing. The weight is fine, the features are limited, bottom line both lenses included in the package are pedestrian at best. Image quality is good, but focusing lag is annoying.

Great buy

Pros:

Cons:

Poor Build Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Being a professional skydiving photographer for 8 years, I've always been a fan of the Canon SLRs. My XT lasted forever through a lot of wear and tear, but I eventually needed more fps and higher than 8mp. Canon's impressive quality sets the bar with the T3i. Fast, easy to use, and the battery lasts a long time! I've been jumping with the T3i for a little over a year now, and am a satisfied customer.

Cons:

Noisy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I think its important for some adults or teens getting into photography that this review is coming from a 17 year old. I got this camera for my 17th birthday and I am in heaven. For a year previous, I had the Canon Rebel XS, and this is a huge step up. 18 megapixels and 6400 ISO should put your limits at least to the sky. I am not terribly impressed at the build quality, but I took this for a month straight across the Chugach Mountains in Alaska and it lasted perfectly. I love this camera and I'm so glad I began with it.

Amazing Pictures ... BUT

By edelatorre from Riverside, CA on 11/01/2012

Pros:

Superior Build Quality, Nice Features/settings, Bright Lcd, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Quick Start-up Time, Simple Controls/menu, Good Battery Life, Quiet, Solid Operation

Cons:

Does Not Shoot When Needed

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been using this camera for about just over a year. I have used it in multiple scenarios uses that vary from portraits to landscape/wildlife. Now, the pictures I have taken with this camera are amazing in quality, color, tones, just about any criteria ... but (there's always a BUT)! Eventhough I am not a professional, I am not a newbie either and one of the biggest frustrations I've had is that sometimes it just wont shoot a picture no matter how many times or how long you push the shutter button, I've had to change the focus to stimulate the camera to take a picture which works on ocassions. It is really frustrating specially because some moments wont wait t'ill the camera wants to shoot the picture. It's even more frustrating when we ask somebody to take a picture for example my wife and I on vacation somewhere and having the camera on full auto function and when you ask that someone that kindly accepts to take that picture they'll press the shutter button and the camera WONT SHOOT!!! I hate it and have to end up apologizing to that someone who was doing us the favor. Then I grab it (still in full auto function) and still wont shoot no matter how many time you press the button. I've been forced to shut it down and turn on again which sometimes aleviates the problem of not shooting a bit and/or have to change focus (which changes the depth of field of course to maybe something I dont want to capture) but it helps in "stimulating" the camera to want to start shooting. I should add to this that I am one of those persons who take EXTRA CARE of stuff like this and have never exposed this camera to any damage whatsoever so I have no idea if this will go away or if I will have to live with it or if I will just have enough at some point if I happen to continue missing photo opportunities just because it doesnt want to shoot when I need to and hence end up selling it or trading or what ever .... Still, when it takes pictures, they are amazing! What a dilemma ......

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Simple Controls/menu, Easy To Use

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My pictures look so professional you would never know I was a beginner. The flip screen is awesome. The way you can go from 1 picture on the screen to 9 is excellent. You can look at them and delete long before you get home. The battery lasted longer than I expected. The speed in which it can take a picture is very impressive. The quality and features are great. It is light weight and easy to carry alone or in a case. I am very happy with my Rebel T3i. Can't wait to see what else it can do. It is easy to use. It doesn't have a lot of buttons, it's just simple and straight to the point. Practically point and shoot.

Pros and Cons

By Pecossky from Orlando, FL on 10/17/2012

Pros:

Superior Build Quality, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Quiet, Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Quick Start-up Time, Solid Operation, Simple Controls/menu, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Stock Lense Doesn't Have A Low Aperture, Shaky Operation, Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The are many pros and a very few cons. One of my very best feature is the swivel LCD it is so easy to move and take great shots without looking straight into the camera. The other great things the camera is light weight and have a lot of functions. The Cons are that the stock lens and the ISO in the camera don't have a lot of choices. In video mode while panning with the stock lens it looses a bit of focus and the aperture is not good for low light scenarios. But overall is a great camera to get. I recommended it very much. Just get more lenses with different apertures and you should be fine.

Pros:

Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Superior Build Quality, Quick Start-up Time, It Has A Viewfinder, Excellent Image Quality, Quiet, Solid Operation, Nice Features/settings, Bright Lcd

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera was really easy to use right out of the box. The pictures all are great quality. Although I mostly use it on Auto, I also use the macro and the sport mode. I am determined to learn to use it on Manual some day, but in the mean time, I do really well without it. I won't be outgrowing it soon. I also have the 55-300 lens that I am very, very happy with. I mostly use the camera for wildlife, and am very happy with the speed. The tutorial CD that came with it is a little on the fast side and being over 60 the downloading software took a while for me to learn. I don't usually do much with my finished photos besides cropping, but the one feature that has come in handy is the way you can straighten the horizon. I am so happy with this camera and have just convinced a collegue to buy one of his own.

Bottom Line:

I am a amateur and shoot from a wheelchair. The quality is super overall especially in low light situations. I shoot a lot of disabled sporting events and for our local newspaper. I also am the photographer for my Lions club. As a amputee in a wheelchair I have problems getting the shot I want because people tend to walk in front of me or I can't get as close as I want to be. I overcome most of these problems by using a monopod which allows me to get the camera up about 8 feet. I have a remote attached to the camera and with the LED screen tilted down I can capture the scenes I want. I also use a 18-135mm lens almost exclusively to have the needed range because of being in the chair and being blocked by people. I am starting to get the hang of shooting videos and their quality is super also. Needless to say I am thrilled with this camera

Love how the camera works . I new to digital SLR and have used a Canon F1 for most of picture taking till now.. the Rt3 works just as well as the F1 but the need of Battery .. but the F1 needed film and the trade off is I am getting great images every time(as long as aim the camera right and I have the sitting right) Still learning but this great camera to learn from I feel and will tell other that getting to a DSLR that it would be the best to use. I have always loved ,my Canon F1 it is tank it and I trust that Canon has taken that quality and put that into the DSLR's they make. I did buy a cannon EFS 18-135IS lenses and found the image quality to be excellent.I have shot a lot of landscapes, esp lakes, and some close ups of flowers, gardens and orchards>I have been very pleased with the pics,I would recommend this cam to a friend without reservation.

Purchased this camera to capture moments of our family growing as we are just beginning to have children. I have been using my Canon T3i for over a year now and feel very comfortable using it even though I have no formal training in photography. I have been very impressed with the image quality, especially due to its ability to capture and render photographs with excellent depth and tone of color. Time after time we have people ask us who we hired to take pictures of our son and it feels great to tell them I did them myself. The only gripe I have with this camera is the lack of auto focus in video record mode, which is now of course a standard feature of the T4i.

Bottom Line:

I am still learning to use the features and have great pics on Auto selection. I am learning to use the Macro. The pics are coming out very professional and I am not a professional photographer. I left the telephoto lens home not knowing I would attend a football game. I enlarged several pics on the computer and they came out great, and w/o distortion.

Cons:

Bottom Line:

I've had my camera for a year now and I still love it so much! Prior to this camera, I had the T1i but I upgraded to the T3i. This camera is absolutely amazing! The quality is fantastic. I've taken my camera everywhere with me and was always amazed with the results- downtown, birthdays, wedding renewals, beach and concerts too! The only con is the automatic stop when you're recording. This camera has never failed me :)

Game changing.

By J_Hammond91 from Sturgis, MS on 10/09/2012

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Quick Start-up Time, Bright Lcd, Solid Operation, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life, Quiet, Excellent Image Quality, Superior Build Quality, Simple Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The image quality of this camera has been simply game changing. The Rebel line of cameras took a dramatic turn with the introduction of the T1i and the Canon T3i is a great update to the Rebel line. Canon has fundamentally changed the way that we capture images through outstanding sensor clarity, functionality, dependability and performance. However, the kit lens does not deserve the Canon name, it is very cheaply made both in optics and build quality.

I llove my T3i

By Ducky from Bloomington, IN on 10/09/2012

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Good Battery Life, Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Takes Great Pictures In Low Light

Cons:

Somtimes The Auto Focus Will Take A While To Set

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my first SLR Camera. I found it to be quite user friendly; that is easy to use out of the box. The ability to get short descriptions for each setting was great at first and I'm glad I have the ability to turn the descriptions "on" or "off" as needed. The thing I love the best is how well the camera takes pictures in low light. I was able to use the camera at a Wedding without annoying anyone by not having to use the flash. I generally never turn the flash on (yet). These pictures came out great and many people who looked at these pictures later; thought I was a professional photographer. I will be buying more lenses as I learn more about the art of photography.

Best Camera I've ever used

By Lightspeedsnail from Scott City, MO on 10/09/2012

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Quick Start-up Time, Good Battery Life, Superior Build Quality, Lightweight/portable, Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings, Solid Operation, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My Rebel T3i is, by far, the greatest camera I have ever owned/used. I'm only an amateur, but wow, what a great experience we've had together. Yes, I talk about my camera as a friend. Rebel T3i and I have been to some places, seen some things and well, we've had a blast. And I have proof. Well, digital proofs anyway. I love how the LCD swivels around so that no matter where I'm at I can get a great shot. The quality of pictures we've taken together is evident in the awards and contests we've won. While my T1i is often jealous, Rebel T3i and I just work better together. Don't worry, T1i and I still have a thing...Shhhh, don't tell T3i. It might get jealous too. Oh well we're one big happy family. And they make our work so very easy. Some times I feel like my Canon Rebel T3i is the extra limb I always thought I was missing.

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Solid Operation

Cons:

Bottom Line:

The only reason not rating the T3I any higher is that I am still learning how to use without reading the manual. I live in a active senior community and am the un-offical photography. Weather its at the Pickelball court or Water Volleyball people have commented how great the photos are. Great camera, suggest you get the complete kit (2 lenses) . Have fun, enjoy!!

My newest camera

By Sigmund from Washington DC on 10/09/2012

Pros:

Superior Build Quality, Lightweight/portable, Solid Operation, Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Canon T3i has renewed my excitement about photography. The camera is a joy to use, with controls that are easy to reach and sensible in their placement. The images are top notch in quality, and the camera has enough resolution to make mild cropping a useful option in post. The range of accessories is extensive, and Canon's stable of lenses is extensive and top shelf quality. I have had no problems creating sharp and beautiful images with the kit 18-55 lens, and it's pretty much the lightest lens I've ever used. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and have since picked up both a 55-250 zoom and the 50mm 1.4 lens which is the best 50mm I've ever owned as well.

By ToriD from Troy, New York on 10/09/2012

Pros:

Easy To Use, Quiet, Good Battery Life, Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality, Nice Features/settings, Solid Operation, Superior Build Quality

Cons:

Complicated Controls/menu, Manual Is Too Complicated For Beginners

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this camera because of the stabilizer in it (my hands shake) and because I scrapbook and wanted to get into taking photos of family and nature. I found that I love almost everything about it. The image quality of my photos are great. I like having all the features that this camera has and I find that I play around with them to see what a photo will look like with different settings. My only draw back is the manual. I find that certain information is not explained enough or for those of us who are novices but would like to do more with the camera. My pros and cons are rated on the features that so far, I have used and understand.

Great way to start in sophisticated DSLR photos

By Pearsonsailor from Alexandria, VA on 10/09/2012

Pros:

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Noisy, Flash And Hdr Type Settings Difficult

Bottom Line:

I have had my T3i with 18-135 lens for over a year and have shot landscapes, night scenes, portraits and travel. That is over 9,000 clicks of the shutter. It is a great camera to start the DSLR experience with. My photos have been sharp enough and colorful enough to be judged into local juried exhibitions and even have some of the photos sold. And, yes I would like to upgrade to full frame some day and it will be with a Canon.

The options that are available for this camera are also a plus. This camera is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It will not disappoint a new purchaser and I have recommended it to several people. I have taken pictures of the moon, flying birds, my grandchilds out door wedding, pictures out of the moving car window and pictures of hummingbirds so close up that you can see every single detail of that beautiful little creature. It is a great camera for a resonable price.

Cons:

Will Not Focus And Zoom While In Video Mode., Difficult To Use, Complicated Controls/menu, Noisy

The Canon T3i records excellent images. The spot focusing works well for still images although images in videos moving toward or away from you will not stay in focus. The 18-55 mm lens is not parfocal. This means that when the lens is zoomed during a video, it will not maintain focus. The "live View" is difficult to use as a snapshot camera. It will sound as though a photo was taken but you must hold the button down for much longer than an instant to record an image. The printed results of photographs are stunning. An excellent camera.

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Simple Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love my camera, I have dreamed of getting out of the point and shoot way and having a real camera again. My t3i is what I dreamed of. Photos are high quality, vibrant color and clear. Lens system keeps me in control of the photo composition. I print just what I shot, with little work at the kiosk. Buy one!!

Great camera, unacceptable sound

By Anonymous from La Mesa, CA on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings, Bright Lcd, Superior Build Quality, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Sound Recording Unacceptable, Noisy

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Bought this camera primarily for shooting video and at that it excels. Great flexibility, great range of lenses means you'll always be able to adapt your gear to the conditions. I'd alway prefer to record audio with the video in camera but that's impossible with this camera. The sound has far to much hiss at all but the lowest gain settings, so be prepared to record audio separately and then mix in your editing app. Too bad, everything else about the camera is first rate, but I wouldn't buy this camera again knowing what I know now. Doubly unfortunate, since I have a Canon Vixia camcorder that was much cheaper than the T3i but has superior sound, and includes a headphone port which the T3i doesn't (most DSLRs don't have this either).

Very Satisfied Customer!

By ColoDaisy from Colorado Springs, CO on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd, Quick Start-up Time, Good Battery Life, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Noisy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I did a lot of research before I bought my T3i, I became obsessed about it! It had been 10 years since I had used anything other them a point & shoot and I was wanting to get back into photography seriously. I was torn between the T3i and the 60D. There are several features that I really liked about both but honestly the final selling point for me came down to the fact that the T3i is lighter then the 60D which was important due to a recent elbow injury. I knew that once I started changing out lens and shooting for long periods of time, I didn't want the weight to slow me down. I do plain on upgrading in time. The T3i, I am very pleased with, there are so many features that I just didn't have with my old 35mm. There are still things that I am learning every time I go out with my camera. I was lucky enough to be able to attend Canons 2012 Photograph the Parks in Estes, CO. For someone getting back into photography with a new piece of equipment this was truly a blessing! I was fully aware that this camera was nicely nestled between the high-end point &shoots and the professional level cameras. I knew what I was getting and what I was passing up on by not going with the 60D or even the 7D. The only thing that I have found frustration with is when I am set up for a shot and using the LCD screen to view I have to back out of the LCD screen viewing to change my focal point meter. That only takes a second and that is the only thing that I have found that I wish i could change, I'm not sure if I am able to and just haven't found the trick to it yet. I would say that this is a great camera if you are getting back into photography or if it is something new that you are trying and want to take it seriously. It gives you the features and lets you save up some money before really upgrading to the professional level! ;-) I would have to say that I put myself in the middle of the Enthusiast and Amateur level, and that is only because I know that I have not yet learned everything about my camera and how to utilize it to its full potential!

First DSLR

By Old Zebra from Chandler, AZ on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality, Lightweight/portable, Easy To Use, Quiet, Simple Controls/menu, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Slow Start-up Time

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My T3i is the first DSLR I have owned. Although I've owned it for less than six months, I've used it to to photograph a large conference and smaller veteran's reunion. The camera produced exceptional photos. When it failed to do so, the cause was invariably due to operator error. I have no complaints. Overall, the camera has exceeded my expectations.

Pros:

Easy To Use, Nice Features/settings, Superior Build Quality, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Simple Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

I bought my Canon T3i with the 18-135mm lens after reviewing many other cameras. I have now used it about 14 months and I am very pleased with the quality of both the camera and the photos. I have found the controls very easy to find and use, and really like the zoom range of the lens. My pictures come out with excellent color and crystal clear quality. This camera is my first venture in the world of DSLR's and I have been thrilled with the whole experience...even winning in my photo club competitions. :-)

Cons:

Doesn't Print The Date On A Picture

Bottom Line:

I have had my Canon Rebel since April, I use it alot especially the speed setting because my granddaughter rides in horse shows, and swims with a club.. But I don't like the idea that when I take a picture it doesn't print the date automatically on the picture, and sometimes I have 140 pictures of some of her events she is in. However I would recomend the camera to everyone.

Excellent all around DSLR

By Bostonguy from Boston, MA on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Solid Operation, Excellent Image Quality, Superior Build Quality, Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Quiet, Quick Start-up Time, Good Battery Life, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Having always been interested in photography as an amateur, I've owned several point and shoot cameras, and I've owned some film cameras. I have taken some amateur photography courses, and I had great success with my Canon Rebel 35mm film camera. When it came time to buy a DSLR, I talked to several professionals and visited a few camera shops. I also read a number of reviews. It was clear to me, given the feedback and service I've had with past Canon products, that the Rebel 3ti was the way to go. It takes phenomenal pictures for the price, and it has a broad array of setting and accessories that allow even a professional photographer to achieve the most desirable results. It does take a while to learn all of the menus and settings. Another win for Canon!

Tough and Clear

By Happygnome034 from Waco, TX on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Superior Build Quality, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Simple Controls/menu, Solid Operation, Bright Lcd, Quiet, Quick Start-up Time, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Auto Focus

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My canon T3i is great because I am just starting out on shooting with a real quality camera. It is very simple to use and learn. Its also fun because my friends are always worried about their camera so they are very limited with there picture angle, where I am able to get in all kinds of shots and angles on anything I have had dirt get in it and all I had to do was clean it real quick and I was back to shooting some cool pics. The only problem that I feel is that the automated focus is only a 9 point focus area but other than that its been a great 3 months with it and I have got a lot of positive reactions to my pictures.

Since I retired I joined two camera clubs and my T3i allows me to take part in photo competitions with outstanding results. I would recommend this camera without any hesitation.

Pros:

Quick Start-up Time, Superior Build Quality, Solid Operation, Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Good Battery Life, Easy To Use, Quiet

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought for a trip to England. Took 1400 photos in 10 days, really got to know the camer and loved it from the start. Loved exploring all the new features. Used it for the Solar eclipse and Venus transit and was very inpressed with the adaptability of the camera to do such varied functions. I can't imagine a better or more versatile camera. Love it. My only complaint and a minor one is the telephoto lens slides to max telephoto when camera is carried over shoulder with lens facing down. A minor complaint.

Excellent Value and performance

By AJH from Michigan on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Solid Operation, Easy To Use, Quiet, Superior Build Quality, Nice Features/settings, Bright Lcd, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Iso Low Light Fast Shutter, Fps

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my 3rd Rebel. I started with this model about a year ago. It has served me well. It has taken me from skilled amateur to semi pro. I have outgrown it and will be moving up to the 7d shortly. I shoot action/events and use the 100-400 l combination. It has never failed me. However, I need more FPS for bursts. And it is slow in low light. I shoot mainly outdoors. Focusing/tracking is slower then I would like. It has been dependable and I have never had any type of failure. I have taken some incredible photos with it under optimum conditions.

Why I love it

By TheGreatSpork from Ocala, FL. on 10/08/2012

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/menu, Solid Operation, Easy To Use, Good Battery Life, Lightweight/portable

Cons:

Only 3.7 Fps Shooting

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera does everything I want. I use it for sports, models, events. It is a great camera. The only thing I don't like is the 3.7 fps. I don't use it for movies so it works great. Some people don't like the size and think it is too light. I think it is just right. I want to get a second camera and was goin to go for another T3i but I really want more than 3.7 shots per second. I shoot only in raw so I will probably get the T4i because that way I don't have to buy more batteries and other accessories. I can just use my T3i extras.

Cannon t3i

By Cat Lady from Orange City, Florida on 10/05/2012

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Quick Start-up Time, Itimidaing At First But Learing Quickly, Nice Features/settings

Cons:

Short Battery Life

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was "raised" on a Reble 2000 film camera and hating change, FINALLY went digital. Started with a great "point & shoot, which taught me the basics. I do pet & nature photography so needed more. After checking MANY cameras I choose the Cannon t3i. (Body only) Has all I need!!! Best of all, I can use the Cannon supersonic lens's I used on my Reble 2000. (Saved greatly) It has so many features that at first it was a little over whelming. After sitting, reading and just "playing" with this camera I learned quickly. I only bought this camera about a month ago, so still learning. I have taken BEAUTIFUL pictures. Cats, dogs, a rainbow that is out of this world. I think you get the message, . The only fault I find is it is a little on the heavy side. Again, the more I use it, I'm getting used to it. Also, the battery life isn't as long as I would like as I need the higher megapixels. Going to buy another battery and should be fine. All in all, it's a GREAT camera and would recommend it.

I love all the features in this camera but I would have like it even more if it had a better fps, which I miss badly when shooting birds. Although, for the price it is awesome and not a deal breaker.

Easy To Use, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Nice Features/settings, Bright Lcd

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have owned my T3i since Dec. 2011 and love it. It has allowed me to learn tons of things about photography and DSLRs. I have three good lens's now and the images are awesome. I shot lots of wildlife with a 100 - 400L lens and the results are stunning. I did tons of research prior to buying and was not disappointed at all. I only wish it had a faster FPS speed, but that will come when I eventually upgrade. When I do, the T3i goes nowhere but stays as my second. It's more than an entry DSLR, it's all I really needed, until I became consumed by the the bug!

This camera has been my ...

By Anonymous from Amarillo, Tx on 10/04/2012

Pros:

Nice Features/settings, Solid Operation, Good Battery Life, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

The Digic 4 Processor High Noise At Iso 800+

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera has been my life for the past year and it truly is an amazing camera. There are few thing that i would change, but one of them is the processor, the Digic 4 processor does a does a very good job as long as you stay at an ISO of 800 or less, anything above becomes overly noisy. The camera has put up to a lot of use sense I bought it, and has lasted extremely well. One thing that i would say is necessary to get is a battery grip, it is a very useful add on that will improve your experience with the camera. The flip out screen has been a very useful feature good in many situations. Another amazing feature is the External Flash function, Absolutely Incredible, It will increase your creative pictures by leaps and bounds, by being able to incorporate the unique lighting into your pictures. The image Quality is outstanding, especially when coupled with one of Canon's L-series lenses, the auto-focus is descent with a standard lens, but is impeccable with the L-series lens, as well. The camera is an incredible beginner camera, and if you want to push the limits of your ability's then it is also extremely capable with keeping up, and will carry you in to what ever type of photography you would like.

Moving from Rebel XT, T3I is a significant upgrade, resolution, features, picture quality. No problems for pro as well amatures. This is a superb machine for tsking all kinds of pictures. In it's price range it was number one choice for me, Adding video with manipulations is just unreal. Simple wireless flash and use of all Canon's flashes and lenses easly let you do pro shots. The only thing i see as negative is less than 4fts. Other manufacturers offer a lot quicker. My Rebel XT was used for 8 years by me, sold in perfect condition. I hope my T3I will be as good

Bottom Line:

I take pictures all the time for work. They involve damage to state property and after the damage is repaired. Because of the swivel LCD screen I am able to take pictues with the camera above my head and hanging off the side of a structure. Its automatic mode makes it nice to take pictures when I can't hold onto the camera in a more conventional way. I have to enlarge alot of pictures to see detail. The enlargements are always clear. I am not a pro photographer but, this camera allows me to take great pictures and it was easy to learn how to use.

Excellent camera - you won't regret it

By Jwall from Athens, Georgia on 09/06/2012

Pros:

Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality, Quick Start-up Time, Bright Lcd, Lightweight/portable, Superior Build Quality, Quiet, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Solid Operation

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I chose this camera when I decided to upgrade from my Canon Powershot SX10 is. I have NOT regretted my decision. There was no learning curve at all when moving to this DSLR from my point-and-shoot. You can shoot in manual mode and control all of the settings yourself. The camera also has many other modes and scene selections that take great pictures if you want to let the camera control certain aspects. The T3 is easy to use. I recommend that you read the manual that comes on the enclosed CD - it goes into detail about the product and will have you getting away from the "auto" mode within the first few minutes of use. I am a photographer as a hobby and there is still a lot I need to learn about photography. However, just by stepping up to this camera, my pictures have improved greatly b/c of the better sensor and image quality that Canon is famous for. This is the 3rd Canon camera that I have owned (the first 2 were powershot point-and-shoots, this is the first DSLR). I highly recommend this camera - you will not be disappointed. There are tons of lenses, flashes, filters, and accessories available to take your photography to the next level. I understand that this camera is considered an entry-level product. I have no other DSLR experience, so I can't speak to the prosumer and professional models and how they compare to this camera. All I can attest to is that this camera exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds and I know that I will be using it for a long time to come!!!

Great Camera for the price

By mdonald8 from Westland, MI on 09/05/2012

Pros:

Easy To Use, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Excellent Image Quality, Solid Operation, Quick Start-up Time, Good Battery Life

Cons:

Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

the photo quality for this camera is great. It does good in low light. using the basic lens that you have with this camera will give you all you need for day to day shooting. the battery life for this camera gives you a great number of photos. i can easily take 800 photos on one battery. One of thing i have to say i do not like about this camera is that is does not have a panoramic feature. my point & shot canon does panoramic photos. i was at a wedding for a family member and they did not have a videographer, and i just pulled out my canon T3 and shot the wedding and reception and it came out great. even shooting in low light at the reception the quality turned out great. So i would still have to say this is a great camera for the money and an easy flow from point & shot to an DSLR.

Cons:

Poor Image Quality, Noisy

Bottom Line:

I have had several Canon cameras without any problems but I have had the Canon T3 for less than a year and have already had to have it repaired twice. Got back from being repaired and had to send it back within a week because it was doing the same thing. Afraid to use it for something important. Worried it will not work properly.

Built-in flash is a problem

By cam-dave from Metro Atlanta, GA on 09/03/2012

Pros:

Good Battery Life

Cons:

Flash Continues To Be A Problem, Poor Build Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Built in flash did not take too long to show its true colors. This is an issue Canon has known for 10 years (based on some searches/researches/user opinions) that is still unfixed. have had the camera for only 9 months. used the flash even less due to my interest with nature-scape photography. the camera flash is not responding at all.

Worth the investment.

By ParaGraf from Wisconsin on 09/02/2012

Pros:

Excellent Image Quality, Easy To Use, Simple Controls/menu, Solid Operation, Quiet, Bright Lcd

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

For years, I had a S--rs KS super II, then a M----ta 3xi. While I loved each of them, it finally became too hard to get decent developing done. After a couple years of digital point and shoot agravation, I spent the money this spring for the Canon. I'm still learning how to take advantage of all this thing has to offer, but my image quality is SO much better now! It's hard to believe the low-light performance at my kid's concerts. Picture-taking is fun again! Saving up now for a decent flash unit - let the accessorizing begin!

I've always used a canon product so dont know how others work. I was able to read and understand the manuel and learn quickly how to use manual settings. Its light and love the lens. I'm a beginner in using a dSLR so if i can learn how to use it, its a good product in my book. Its also pretty durable because ive already dropped mine and it still works fine.

I purchased this camera so I could get better pictures in low-light settings. I got the bonus of wonderful close up macro shots of flowers thanks to one lens in the kit, and a whole world of opportunities opened up with the long range lens. I couldn't be happier with the camera - the pictures are so sharp that it's like you're looking at the real thing. I'm looking forward to using it for years to come.

I have been using Canon digitals for about 6 years. I am a yearbook adviser and the cameras that we use are all Canon's, 30D's (2) 60 D (1) and now a T3. I find that this camera has a simple operating system for my students who are just learning to shoot good photos. One of my students who feared to operate it , was pleased to use it and also learn quickly. As a group we can inter change the lenses which keeps the cost down. Thanks Canon for producing the T3.

My experience with my T3i

By RobertInGermantow from Germantown, Tennessee on 08/10/2012

Pros:

Solid Operation, Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings, Quiet, Quick Start-up Time, Superior Build Quality, Good Battery Life, Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality

Cons:

Dim Lcd, Difficult To Use, Lcd Is Dim In Bright Sunlight., At The Start The Camera Is Difficult To Use., Complicated Controls/menu

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I want to begin by saying that I have only had my T3i since May of this year, so I dont have a vast amount of experience with it. But I have had a camera since I was in my early teens, starting with a simple point-and-shoot (this was in the fifties), and advancing through the ranks with a 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 reflex, and eventually to a Canon 35mm SLR back in the mid-seventies. I eventually traded in that camera for a newer Canon AE1. I had been using the AE1 ever since until the introduction of the digital camera. Then I bought a Canon A40 P&S which I used for several years until I upgraded to a G5. In the early days (i.e., when I was living at home) I had my own darkroom. Having my own darkroom was really at least half the fun of being a photographer even with chemical smell! Finally, when I recently retired I decided to get back into my old hobby full speed and after searching around for quite a while settled on the T3i. A lot of what I learned in the old days hasnt really changed with the new digital technology " for example, shooting children at eye level, focusing in on a single person when they are posing in large groups, and taking a lot of shots of the same subject to insure getting the best shot. But a lot has " for example the sheer number of options available with a DSLR and moving out of the darkroom to a PC. My experience with my T3i has been one of learning, much of it through trial-and-error. Of course the great beauty of the digital camera is that one need not be frugal with the number of snaps one takes. When shooting with my T3i one long weekend, I had taken over 600 pictures. I still had room on my memory card for probably 2400 more! Plus, I had two more memory cards in my bag just in case. I also had three extra batteries " just in case " which I never needed. A great thing about the T3i is the flip out LCD display. Not only can you flip it out, you can turn it up, turn it down, turn it sideways (at least one way). Of course all digital cameras have an LCD (I believe). But the size of the LCD along with its mobility is a significant advantage of cameras like the T3i. One problem with the LCD, which is true of all LCDs (again, I believe) is that when in the bright sunlight it is nearly impossible to see the image. My solution: bring a light towel or broad brimmed hat to block the sunlight when viewing the LCD. Anyway, while I have found the T3i immensely challenging to learn, I also find it immensely fun to use. And the best way to learn is to experiment. I said before, one of the great things about a digital camera in general is the fact that one need not worry about how many pictures one takes. With a digital, you can take a bunch of pictures of the same subject, using different settings in between. Those you dont want you simply can erase and you have your memory back, although my suggestion is not to erase immediately, but save them for later and when you have time you can see the effects of the different settings you used. Once you have copied your images to another media (and be sure you make multiple copies) you can erase or re-format your entire memory card to regain your useable memory. Another thing I like about the T3i is the image stabilization feature. I have no comprehension as to how this thing works except that it has a set of gyroscopes in the camera/lens. But I have noticed on several occasions when I would be moving that the picture did not reflect any motion when, with one of my earlier cameras, some shakiness would likely have been evident. One problem I have experienced with the T3i is that I sometimes have difficulty placing my finger on the shutter button. This may be due to the fact that I have neuropathy in my fingers from diabetes. I think I have solved the problem by sticking a tiny bit of plastic label tape on the button so I can better locate the button when I am looking through the viewfinder. Another feature I like is the portrait setting on the dial. This basically forces the background to be out-of-focus when shooting a portrait. I have not always been able to get this feature to work, but remember I am still a newbie with this camera. I try to take my camera wherever I go so that if I see something I want to shoot Ill be ready. When I am travelling, I usually keep the camera set on A (for auto so that I can pick the camera up and take a shot without messing with the controls. Afterwards, if I do need to make an adjustment and I have the time, I can change the settings for a better shot. Since turning back to my old hobby, I find myself watching much less TV, and doing more with my children and grandchildren as well as just simply getting out more, with the hopes of getting that one great picture. And the T3i offers a lot of opportunity to do that.

Good for Beginners

By Lucy from Phoenix, Arizona on 07/18/2012

Pros:

Good Battery Life, Simple Controls/menu, Easy To Use

Cons:

Missing Features/settings, Poor Build Quality, Bad-quality Lcd

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This was my first digital SLR camera. I went with the T3 because of the good price & simplicity. My biggest problem with this camera is the LCD. It is terrible. In fact, on multiple occasions, I couldn't even tell my photos were out of focus. To this day I still have that problem. I have to zoom in on the subject to see if it's sharp. Another problem I had with this camera was the use of a remote. I did not know when I purchased this that the Canon shutter release would not work with the T3. That's because it doesn't have the IR beams. Big disappointment for me. The last problem I had with this camera is the auto focus. It seems like it never knows what to focus on when I'm not behind it (I take many portraits). On a more positive note, the battery life is excellent. I hardly charge it and when I do, it only takes 1-2 hours. The rebel T3 is also very simple - it comes with preset shooting modes that are great for beginners. Overall, if I had a friend who was looking for a DSLR, I wouldn't recommend this. Try the T2i.

Great entry level

By Z from Cleveland, OH on 07/09/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this T3 refurbished and I am very happy with it. Shipping was very fast and, beside the "white box" and a fingerprint on the lens (easily cleaned), I couldn't tell the camera was refurbished. A friend of mine just got a T1i and I feel that the T3, although it doesn't have as high a pixel count, takes nicer pictures with the same kit lens. The T3 feels lighter and I think is easier to operate for novice than the T1i. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. I just need to get a couple lenses, filters, and a bag and then have fun taking nice pictures.

This is an entry level ...

By Bark_Viciously from Undisclosed on 07/02/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an entry level slr. The mega pixels, ISO, Auto-focus, etc is more than anyone would ever need if you are using it as an amateur or a everyday camera. Battery life is only bad if you use the LCD screen to take picture or if you shoot a lot of video because it takes a lot of juice to run those opptions (duhh). So in this case that is irrelevant because this will happen with any brand, any product. After you learn how to use the camera and its modes, a good idea would be an upgraded lens. The camera has a lot more potential than the kit lens allows.

I just got my camera this week "T3" and shot over 100 pictures. The pictures are clean and the default lens is not bad. 18-55mm. The problem I have is the loud shutter and long delay in taking the picture. You would think the respnise time would be faster. I am a newbie to the DSLR cameras so maybe it's just my inexperience so time will tell. So far though I found it a very simple camera to use. :

Just a great camera. I used a Canon AE-1 in the '80s/'90s, Canon Powershots during the '00s, and upgraded to this camera in early 2012. PIctures are nice and sharp. At almost four frames per second, it's great for taking pictures of moving objects such as trains. There are also lot of features to keep me busy for a long time. This is my Christmas/birthday/Father's Day present for the next five years - well worth it!

Absolutely phenomenal!

By VFS from USA on 05/22/2012

Pros:

Lightweight/portable, Excellent Image Quality, Simple Controls/menu, Bright Lcd, Nice Features/settings, Good Battery Life, Easy To Use

Cons:

Noisy, Missing Features/settings

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Again! Canon has another winner! I've been using the T3i for about 7 months now and I can proudly say that the impressive photo quality and performance from this camera was truly blown me away! Last year I used the Full HD function at a family gathering and shot about an hour of footage, pulled it into Premiere pro, and exported a truly aweing presentation. You just can't beat this camera in the image quality aspect with a price package like this! Canon has done an excellent job on the sensor's low light performance at the price your paying for. I've shot in low to medium lit museums at iso 1600 and I still was able to pull out sharp, detailed photos of my subjects with minimal noise in the shadows. The potential of the T3i's raw capture increases when combined with Lightroom's powerful sharpening and noise reduction tools. I love using flash at receptions and for some reason the color when using flash looks much better than using cameras of an opposing brand. The pictures ''pop'' more and are more vibrant. The T3i works best with a grip because it not only improves battery life but also handling, which is a little difficult with small Rebel series models. If the grip is beyond your budget, at least try and get another battery pack as the battery in Rebel series is less powerful than a pro dslr(ex. 60D, 7D). Make sure you invest in good glass to pair with this camera because this is where the price advantage of the rebel plays the most. In the final analysis, like Canon said, there is no compromise with this camera. Fast autofocus, great flip LCD, very portable, and fun to use. The EOS T3i has really got me hooked on Canon brand and so far it lives up to my expectations. If Canon is consistently enabling me to get that great shot, I'll be purchasing something like an EOS 7D Mark 2(when it comes out) in the future. I was impressed, and so will you! Happy shooting!

Great Entry Level Camera

By Danni from Birmingham, AL on 05/22/2012

Pros:

Quick Start-up Time, Lightweight/portable, Quiet, Good Battery Life, Solid Operation, Nice Features/settings, Excellent Image Quality, Bright Lcd, Simple Controls/menu, Superior Build Quality

Cons:

Doesn't Function Good In Low-light

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an overall great camera for someone who is inexperienced with professional photography (entry-level). The only thing that I do not like about this camera is the fact that it does not function very well in low-light settings.

Pretty good camera

By JaGuaR from Atlanta, GA on 05/15/2012

Pros:

Price, Ef-s Lens Mount

Cons:

Megapixel Count, Low Fps, Cheap Plastic Material, Sub-par Shutter Speed

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I got this camera for Christmas this year, after I was introduced to photography by a friend. My father has always been a photography enthusiast, and has owned multiple Canons in his time. It is a great beginners camera. Very easy to use, the instructions and directions are clear and to the point. Everything is reasonably easy to find. My main woe of this camera is its material. It feels like it was made from recycled Barbie dolls. The plastic is not durable feeling, and not very grippy. I have on multiple occasions come close to dropping it because of this. But other than that, it is a great camera. Photos can, especially when shot in higher ISOs, get fuzzy and blurry due to its not exactly up-to-par megapixel level, but this is expected from an entry level DSLR.

Great Camera

By Koko2349 from Undisclosed on 05/13/2012

Pros:

Great For Beginners, Great Price, Great Quality

Cons:

None Yet

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I received this camera for Christmas (2011) and I love it! First it has great quality. Even though people have said it has a plasticly feel, I don't agree. It's comfortable when I hold it and its not that heavy. It also has a lot of good features too like TV (Shutter Speeds) Aperture (amount of bur) and it has video, which is a really good feature for the price. The battery last a long time even when you use video. It doesn't need to be charged much even though I use my T3 frequently. Overall, This is a great camera and well worth the money. I look forward to purchasing more products (lens!) from Canon. :)

Outstanding!

By stick from Hudson, NY on 04/29/2012

Pros:

Extremely Capable And Adaptable.

Cons:

Using It Can Become An Addiction!

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

If you want a camera that you can take out of the box, set on "Automatic" and take very good photos, this camera will do it. So will a good quality point-and-shoot for a lot less money. If you want a camera that will give you the ability to take incredible photos under almost any conditions, this is it. It takes some practice and experimentation to learn what the T3i is capable of, but you won't be disappointed. I took a 12 hr non-credit digital photography class at the local community college and it was worth every penny of the cost. Photography is fun again! The T3i more then held it's own against the comparable big name cameras in the class. I bought this camera for the ability to take some excellect photos when my wife and I go to Bora Bora in Nov. I have no doubt it will be up to the task. Buy it, but by all means learn it's features and how to use them. Once you do be prepared to spend even more money on the accessories that will make the experience even better.

Satisfied Photo Enthusiast

By Macburger52 from Wisconsin on 04/21/2012

Pros:

Lens Options, Mode Options, Image Quality

Cons:

Canon Lens Hoods Can Be Tricky And Confusing.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After three years with my Canon Powershot XS10, I upgraded to the Canon Rebel T3i/600D, for more features and lens options. I'm a photo enthusiast. I like travel pictures, cityscapes, close-up daily living shots, nature, and sometimes portraits of family and friends. The T3i kit was a good deal for me, since it included a couple of basic, yet excellent, zoom lenses. I then purcased a Canon EF-S 50mm f/1.8 lens, and a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens. Now I'm set. The T3i does everything I need it to do for my level of skill, and as I learn more, I'm able to get even better at using the camera and lenses. My family and friends have commented on how professional my pictures are beginning to look! Hooray! I love Canon!

Great for Beginner

By bigron452 from Hopewell Junction, NY on 04/20/2012

Pros:

Fast Shutter Speed, Flip Out Screen, Easy To Use, On Screen Feature Guide, Lots Of Lenses

Cons:

Price, Manual Could Be A Little Simpler

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Stepped up from the Canon Powershot A620. This is my first DSLR, wanted to stick with Canon as I love my A620 and was familiar with some of the menus. I used to have a 35mm back in the day, and boy have cameras changed. I wanted a DLSR for sometime now and read all the reviews, but I trust Canon as I've always had good success with their cameras (my third Canon)... and I'm not disappointed!! Right out of the box I was taking pictures! This camera is way more advanced than my old one .. plenty of options. Read the manual (although it could be a little better).. I also picked up a seperate book and I'm turning out some great pictures. The image quality is fantastic, the pictures are vibrant and colorful and the camera has solid build. I'm by no means a photographer, but I take tons of pictures of my family and vactions - and 18 megapixals - talk about sharp!! I had the flip out screen on my old camera, and I use it a lot for videos .. this screens bigger and now I get HD videos!! I have the 18-135mm Kit .. the autofocus is fast and its a perfect all around lens. All I can say is wow. The T3i even has on screen feature guide to help you learn the camera and explain the functions WHILE taking pictures!! Since my purchase I've added the speedlite 430 and a 50mm 1.8 lens .. I'm taking more picturs than ever and just having lots of fun!! If you're a beginner, want a camera that's easy to use and takes great pictures I'd suggest you consider the T3i.

Best Valentine's Day Gift Ever

By iamKaioken from San Diego, CA on 04/18/2012

Pros:

Intuitive Controls, Iso Performance, Lightweight

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My wife surprised me with a shiny T3i for Valentine's Day and I have been incredibly pleased with the quality of images and feel of the camera. I've been rejuvenated with artistic interest in everything I see through my viewfinder. The high ISO performance paired with the 3-fold resolution increase over my previous bridge camera was a tremendous help during my recent trip to the Long Beach GP. The 55-250 was the perfect lens to have with me at the race track. As I'm getting more accustomed to the T3i, my exposures are increasing in quality. I can't wait to go back to the zoo for a second round of fun! I highly recommend the T3i!

Best Beginner Camera Ever

By Jomaque from Southern California on 04/18/2012

Pros:

Image Quality, Features/design, Quiet, Compact

Cons:

Build Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera back in November, and I must say that it is a very good camera for beginners transitioning from higher end point and shoots to DSLRs. I don't understand why people say that this camera would be terrible, or maybe they are just used to something like the 5D Mark II or the 60D (let's just say something professional). The camera is very good overall, with all the functions clearly marked out. However, the design of the camera may impose to people with larger hands due to its compact size. Image quality is very nice, and actually this camera is almost like the previous XS. I bring this camera everywhere I go because I just love it. It's compact, quality is good, but also it is pretty quiet when it takes pictures. I recommend this camera to individuals who really want to start the hobby of photography, and I hope they enjoy the same thing I have experienced with this camera.

terribly slow

By mnashp from rural illinois on 04/16/2012

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera in February to replace an expired Rebel Xsi. I have been terribly disappointed in its a) inability to auto-focus in low-contrast or moving-target-situations, b) in its massively slow-to-nonexistent 'burst' in raw format, and c) in its clunky, noisy handling. It's death to wildlife shots. I also dislike to the extreme not being able to change iso while tracking my shot. Instead, now i have to back away from the camera to change it via THREE CLICKS, while my shot saunters out of view.... NOT a happy camper, here! But to be fair, when you can get things to stand still, provided they have sufficient contrast for the autofocus to find, it can take some very nice pictures. (Otherwise, be ready to manual focus. Which btw, may not be possible without purchasing an extended diopter-adjustment, for those with even a mild visual compromise. Something to check out at the store, before you purchase...)

I've owned this camera for 5 months now. It's my first DSLR and Canon has hit spot on with this one. The price is just right and the low-end lenses,(by price only because the 55-200 EFS can take some great photos), make this a great camera for a hobbyist like me. You won't be disappointed.

Pros:

Money Well Spent 5 Stars All The Way

Cons:

You Didn't Come Out With It Sooner

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought as a second camera to a 1Ds, It's hard to know where to start with this review. The camera is nothing short of AWESOME, features, controls and handling are perfect. Bought as a kit with 18-55 and 55-250mm IS lens its a great package. The photos are crisp and AF is fast and precise. Noise (grain in dark areas at high ISO speeds) is almost eliminated. There are many features to explore like B&W with built in filters, wireless TTL flash (with appropiate flash), Video at high RES is just amazing! I have tested this camera against a full frame higher MP DSLR and it matches picture quality. You just can't dislike this camera. I purchased the verical grip and its great for handling vertical shots and gives extra battery life for more photos.

A good, high-value DSLR

By rwyoung from Lawrence, KS on 04/06/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased the T3i with kit lens as my first DSLR after using film cameras for the past 20 years (35mm, MF & LF). I still love my film cameras but the DSLR was a necessity for a trip where film would just be in the way. A trip to the South Pole. The T3i performed just fine at temperatures down to -60F with an average temperature of -20F. Just some dimming and slowing of the LCD screen.

Loud Pop after taking a few pictures.

By Techie from Bothell, WA on 04/01/2012

Pros:

Solid, Clear Pictures

Cons:

Loud, Pop

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Had it about 2 months. My wife was taking pictures of the dog and the camera made a really loud pop sound. It was loud enough to make her screech and set the camera down. I powered it down for 10 minutes and took the battery out. I powered it back on and the camera and the flash. It sounds very similar to a blown capacitor in a computer. I wasn't able to find any troubleshooting tips on the cannon website. Any suggestions?

Bottom Line:

This is my first DSLR camera and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to transition into the DSLR world. Canon is a globaly known company when it comes to great products. They definetly delivered with this one. It takes amazing pictures and does excellent long exposures. Its only a 12.6 MP shot, but honestly, unless youre putting the images on a canvas over 20x24, then it doesnt really matter. I look foward to using this camera for years to come.

Learning To Tell A Story

By Cush from Los Angeles, Calif. on 03/23/2012

Pros:

Ease Of Operation, Image Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I'm a writer/director, not a photographer. I recently directed a television pilot with a cinematographer who shot it using two Canon 5Ds. In order to better communicate with him on future projects and develop my own sense of visual storytelling, I got the T3i 18-55mm kit and started shooting. This camera cannot be beat for the price. The quality of images I've been able to achieve is nothing short of miraculous, given that I have almost no prior SLR experience and am somewhat allergic to product manuals. The user interface is super intuitive and the parts of the manual I actually read are clear and concise. After a month of shooting on full Auto, then experimenting with AV and TV modes, I'm now on full manual, and couldn't be happier with the results. The 18-55mm lens that came with the kit may not be pro-level quality, but again, for the money, it really produces some outstanding results and is useful in many situations. A pro photographer friend lent me a couple top-level lenses which made a noticeable improvement in my images. This only gave me incentive to save my pennies. The baseline quality on this kit is excellent and most additional features I long for can be added (lenses) or are otherwise available (a full-size sensor) on other Canon cameras. The only feature not currently available from Canon would be uncompressed video, but I'm sure that can't be too far in the future. Bottom line: Price:quality is the best on the market, IMHO.

This Rebel Deserves Respect

By Impressed Dude from Grand Rapids, MI on 03/20/2012

Pros:

Great Addition To Eos Rebel Line, Feels Secure In Hand, Tilting Lcd Screen, Improved Grip, Bright Lcd Screen, Simple To Use, Easy To Use, Great Price, Outstanding Image Quality, Solid Construction

Cons:

Plastic Body, Slow Autofocus, Lack Of Weather Sealing

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I hit the reviews about the Canon EOS T3i hard and from the reviews I've read, the EOS T3i is an impressive DSLR. Yes, I love the magnesium alloy bodies of my other EOS DSLRs but this camera is fun and enjoyable to shoot. The quality of its digital images are outstanding to say the least! Canon did a great job with combining all of the features of other great Canon DSLRs and the results aren't too shabby. I plan on carrying this camera around with a L lens or two because it's pure fun and a serious consideration if great images are your goal. The Full-HD is another great bonus, too! Dont underestimate this camera because its name is Rebel. For the money its features cant be beat.

Depth of Field

By Jewels from New York on 03/18/2012

Pros:

Picture Quality, Easy To Use, Iso Settings, Price

Cons:

No Depth Of Field Button, Flash, Video Camera On It

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Got this camera to replace my older Rebel. It does take some nice pictures both manual and auto. Great for landscape, nature, and anything but close-ups. Over all it is a good camera for the money. The down falls would be no "depth of field" button and the flash isn't that good. I use a better lens then the one it came with, so I'm not sure about the lens it comes with. The video camera on it isn't the best at all. Don't get this camera if you plan to do a lot of video films. Great starter camera for anyone who wants to learn more about the art of photography or can only afford a decent cheaper camera right now. I would suggest if you want to take photography seriously and have the money, you should get the Canon 7D. If not, this one will do great.

Small but real great

By Paulb from Undisclosed on 03/18/2012

Pros:

Great Iq, Light And Easy, Affordable

Cons:

Doesn't Feel Too Solid

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Just sold my older gear in anticipation of buying the coming 5D3 and have just been left with my wife's T3 while waiting... Big surprise, this toy is amazing! Not that it feels too solid and that features are too extensive but it really delivers. Great IQ/price ratio. Though It feels quite weird and imbalanced when mounted with a lens like my 70-200/2.8 II, results are really incredible, I mean it. All that with "only" 12.6 Mp (think about all the fuss for megapixels cameras!). This also means that RAW files are only 12 MB and faster to process. All this tells me is that digital technology has made huge advances over the last decade. There is no bad camera anymore. You want to do serious photo, invest in serious lenses. They will stay. Cameras? They will go. Throw this flimsy kit lens and buy faster and better stuff. Nothing more than 2.8. You'll be amazed too with what can be done with a simple and affordable 12.6 Mp T3.

Great to get started with DSLR

By IslandHawk from Long Island, New York on 03/16/2012

Pros:

Fairly Intuitive Menu System, Affordable, Many Available Accessories, Easy To Learn And Use, Relatively Light Weight

Cons:

Most Will Outgrow The Kit Lens Quickly, Video Recording Requires Quality Fast Sd Card, Doesn't Offer Autofocus Microadjustment

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The last time I purchased an SLR camera was in the late '80s when film was king. For the past 20-odd years, I've been shooting with point and shoot, or cell phone (yuck) cameras. Recently, I decided to return to photography as a hobby. I needed to choose a DSLR in an affordable price range, and wanted something that could also record 1080p video. After much research and demoing products from all of the major manufacturers, I settled on the T3i 18-55 kit. After only a few weeks, I can't find many faults. If you're moving up from a point and shoot, you will be quite surprised with the image quality of the T3i. The 18-55mm kit lens is worthy of the Canon name, and while the autofocus is a bit noisy, it works in all but the most difficult situations. Note that the front lens element does rotate during both manual and auto focusing, meaning that both polarizing filters as well as petal style lens hoods will rotate along with it. Certainly not a deal breaker for me. I very much like the exposure priority and shutter priority modes. If you're just getting started in photography, these two modes will let you experiment with different settings one at a time, while letting the camera fill in the blanks. Very helpful. The built in flash works well, but if you're into macro photography, you'll be looking to upgrade quickly, as the lens will cast shadows when your subject is close. Battery life is good, I've yet to run out of juice while shooting. Extra batteries are available if you need to be away from the charger for extended periods. There are many lenses available to fit the T3i, but do your homework before purchasing. Canon EF lenses will fit and work, but multiply the EF focal length by 1.6 to get the actual focal length when attached to the T3i due to the smaller sized sensor compared to a 35mm film or full sized sensor DSLR. EF-S lenses will work without the 1.6 multiplier as they are designed for the smaller sensor cameras. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase. I don't doubt that I'll outgrow the T3i, but it's a great camera at a good price, and it does take very nice pictures as long as the person pressing on the shutter release knows what a good picture is supposed to look like.

my first DSLR

By skyde_k from Chicago, IL on 03/06/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my first DSLR camera and I love it. It was greatly recommended to me by a friend who's a photographer out of array of different brands, knowing that I'm amateur. I find it relatively easy to use, and it allows me to take pictures that I wasn't able to with a regular digital camera. I like the sleek design and the price was very affordable considering the great quality. I'm looking forward to learning photography with Canon.

Pros:

Picture Qualtiy

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After using this camear for only a short time I am so impressed I cant wait to use it again. The picture quality is amazing and very easy to use. It has all the adjustments and features I could ever want, but if you set it on the auto setting it takes great pictures. THe only thing I would change, is that I wouls like the body to be heavier to balance the 300mm lens I use.

Fantastic Product

By Mrsjessie from Marshfield WI on 02/25/2012

Pros:

Fantastic Value

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I think over all, this is a great Canon! I'm not as advanced as other photographers (yet) but I'm having a blast taking high quality photographs. The kit lens is so so, I would recommend buying just the body and purchase the lens separately. The quality of the Rebel T3 is fantastic for the price, it's perfect for people who aren't as experienced as others, it comes with a great 'Help' booklet and disk. I highly recommend this!

Great if you want to move to SLR

By KR from Baltimore, MD on 02/23/2012

Pros:

Great Quality Photos, Easy To Use

Cons:

None That I Have Found

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an outstanding camera if you want to move from point and shoot to DSLR. I wanted a camera that could give me a better quality photo than my point and shoot and this does the job. I love the auto mode features because I am not an expert and it allows me to take great pictures, especially at my sons sporting events. I also love the fact that I can play around with the settings in manual mode in order to learn more about ISO, shutter speed, etc. so I can get better and get the most out of the camera. I would highly recommend this purchase.

Impressive Camera

By SJR from Oklahoma on 02/21/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This camera is great. I've had several Canon point & shoot cameras and they have been very nice, but I was ready to step up. This camera has great features and was easy to use by someone (me) who mostly used the automatic features on other cameras. The Rebel T3i still has the automatic feature that I like and I'm enjoying learning how to use the other features and settings. The pictures are extremely crisp and clear. I would recommend this camera to anyone wanting a super nice camera.

Learn about the wireless feature first

By Jim from Biloxi Ms. on 02/16/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is proving to be a great camera but if you are buying it because of the wireless sync feature read the manual online first and understand it. It was not what I thought it was. I wanted to use a flash separate from the camera and I assumed the "wireless" feature would do that (with a dedicated flash) and it does BUT the camera flash has to be popped up to do it. So why spend all the money on a "wireless sync" camera and dedicated flash when a $25 remote slave on any flash will do the same? Kind of silly. They should call it "Wireless flash exposure control" because that is the real benefit for using it, not to just set the remote flash off which any sync will do a lot cheaper. Note: the camera flash can be turned off while popped up but it still flashes a focus flash which might or might not effect the photo and you run the risk of damaging the flash if it's always popped up and it hits something. I use a flash meter so I don't need all the "wireless exposure bells and whistles so I spent way too much money for what I needed but I'm sure I will enjoy it down the road. Other than that it's a great camera for the price point and will do everything short of walking the dog and washing the dishes (except wireless sync without the flash turned on that is).

Excellent choice

By Dr from Longview, TX on 02/14/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Just purchased and received my EOS T3i for my business. I have been using EOS Rebels for 11 years, starting with the Elan 7e, XT, XTi, XS1, T1i for work as a forensic photographer, and I have always liked the quality, performance and price of the Canon EOS series. I decided on the T3i for my peronal business use, mainly because of the addition of the flip / rotating display screen. This will be a great benefit in my line of work. The quality of this camera is great. I highly recommened the T3i to anyone wanting a camera in this range.

Absolutely Amazed!!

By C.R. from Indiana on 02/09/2012

Pros:

Everything

Cons:

Not Enough Time To Use It!

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I just purchased my T3 today and just as the Title says, Amazed! I have used multiple point and shoots over the years, since I have been able to use a D3100. Let me say the T3 is extremely easy to use and very, very user friendly. If this is the lowest end of the Canon DSLR's then I'm sold! Canon you have found a new Life customer!

WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO READ?

By zebrafetish2000 from Rochester, NY on 01/27/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

There are a lot of favorable reviews of this model on this website. What makes it worth your while to keep reading? I'll tell you what's BAD about this camera - it's too easy. Photography is an art. To learn the ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed takes time and effort. Using "Full auto" on this sucker helps create beautiful snap shots without knowing anything. Why is that detrimental? Because I'm taking a photography class from an RIT professor and it's hard to adjust from using "full auto" all the time, to manual mode and adjusting everything myself to create less than ideal photos. Am I serious? YES. This thing takes gorgeous pictures in JPEG mode when what I'm supposed to be shooting is RAW images in manual mode. BTW: The flash really is terrible - just don't use it.

Super Fantastic Camera

By gpguyway from Tehachapi, CA on 01/26/2012

Pros:

Quality Pictures, Amazing Features, Built In Flash, Video In Hd, Easy Lens Changes, Easy To Use

Cons:

Always Taken Pictures Never Home

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use to have a film SLR but is was stolen and it has been a few years since I have owned an SLR camera. I took the big plunge and decided to get a new one, but which one? There are so many to look at, but after looking and feeling and holding all the prospects I got the Canon Rebel T3i with the 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens package. I am re-learning how much fun it is to take pictures and with a digital you can take as many pictures that you want until the microchip fills up which is really hard as I have two 16gb chips, each one will hold over 1800 pictures taken at the 18 megapixel setting. More if I turn it down, but why? Every day I try to go out and take pictures just to learn what this camera can do and it does about anything you want it to do. So if you are looking for a great camera and are new or a professional this is the camera for the price and what you get. Enjoy.

Best in its Class

By RisingSun from Santa Cruz, CA on 01/24/2012

Pros:

Auto Modes, Lightweight, Swiveling Lcd, Ergonomics, Video

Cons:

Build Quality

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This was my first DSLR. I had always been interested in photography and finally decided to jump in. Initially I was astounded with image quality while shooting in the automatic modes. As I progressed, I found myself shooting in the creative modes. The more I shot with the T3i, the better photographs I produced. This is definitely the best entry level DSLR, even compared to other models. The video mode of this camera is unparalleled. The Vari-angle screen is so much more convenient than I first assumed. The ergonomics of this body are quite splendid. It feels right. Images captured with some L glass are breathtaking. I am now advancing past this body and purchasing a 7D. The T3i is well worth the small price. If I was starting over again, I would make the same choice.

Okay

By KP from Kansas City, MO on 01/22/2012

Pros:

Photo Quality

Cons:

Poor Flash, Missing Features

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The physical camera itself feels kind of cheap. The shots are decent, but my previous point-and-shoot cameras seemed to have just as good a shots. The camera seemed awfully slow when trying to take a shot, so if you want a shot of some fast action this camera does not perform well. The flash did not work so well; the picture was either too dark or it washed out my subjects. As far as the features are concerned there did not seem to be as many as I had on my old point-and-shoot such as the firework mode.
