Celestions are simply without a comparison. I have obsessively listened to hi fi components of innumerable brands and models. Nothing (except one particular B & O rather pricey and stylish Speaker) has come close to shaking the certainty that I have had since the mid 1980s when upon college graduation my roommate bought a pair. I had searched lucklessly for 20 yrs, looking for something comparable. Either the Celestions were not being made, or they were only available used, or the prices were too prohibitive. But in this quest, I learned some important insights in my pursuit of perfection. 1.Celestion has been the driver of choice for all the heavy hitters since the days they first graced the famous Marshall stacks. 2. A Loudspeaker is just another instrument. The object is not pure sound reproduction. The object is to reproduce the musica accurately and with tonal color of it's own that adds but never detracts from the artist's intent. I liken this to what makes a Stradivarius sound like a Strad, and not a Sear's Best. Just lightly rap a knuckle on a Celestion cabinet and you should hear all the beautiful, full tonal color as you would hear by similarly rapping gently on a piano or guitar. You just can hear chaep and you can hear, AHHH, WoW, I had no idea what quality is!
I thought the prices here were a mistake. I bought a pair unheard. Also, I wanted my best freind to have the best, too. So, I ordered him a pair with the condition that if he doesn't like them, I'll take them. But, I was that confident that he would not regret my deep regard for our friendship by not letting an opportunity to hear some Celestions on his own rig. He was No-Doubt-About-It absolutely sold when hearing them. And he is a hard sell with his own very complex and expensivemultimedia system.
I am not a salesman. I hate salesmen. You have my word that Celestion speakers are sublime. Maybe you want just Loud, loud, loud. But if you want the sound of a piano in your room, rather than the sound of speakers in your room trying to sound like a piano... Then bet on Celestion.
These prices are impossible. They will stand up to $10,000 speakers and more. I'm certain of this because I have been to uncountable numbers of hi fi shops all across this country and I have never been disappointed.
I honestly keep looking back [...] to decide if I really want what I DO NOT NEED- another surround set for the bedroom!
All jive aside, i would not even bother stocking any other speaker...but i guess that's why I'm not in the business!!!
