It's nice getting a product designed for the DVR market. This was actually my second purchase of this item (third drive). Two of the drives replaced desktop drives that were in my ReplayTVs and the third one replaced a Maxtor QuickVIEW (which died 3 months beyond the three year warranty).
First thing I did was verify on the Seagate site that the drives I bought were covered under their 5-year warranty. All three serial numbers came up clean and supported by that warranty.
The drives themselves are quiet, with a caveat. I cannot hear the heads moving (no seeking clicks or bouncing to the end of the patters).
The only issue I have with the drives are that they rotate at the perfect RPM to hit that magical "hum" when it's installed in one of my ReplayTV enclosures. I'll need to find some rubber standoffs that are a bit less firm that the current ones. Note that I cannot hear the hum until I put it inside the entertainment center (which, of course, collects the vibrations and pumps them back out the front). Once I've cleared three feet, I cannot hear it anymore anyway. I cannot hear the hum from the other two, so it's just the "perfect" acoustics to get it.
I would have given it 5 stars if not for the rotational hum, but I would still make the same purchase.
