This is a great old school phone with convenient modern amenities.
If you've ever had a power failure, you know cordless phones won't work then, and cell phones won't if power is also out to the nearest tower. So, a corded phone is a great thing to have.
This is one of the few corded phones loaded with features, but without an answering machine. If your cordless phone base has one, or you subscribe to the phone company's voice mail, there's no need for it.
The phone has caller ID, mute, speaker phone, tons of auto-dial numbers, and a nice feature that let's you turn off call waiting if you're on a call that you don't want to be interrupted. It also has a "call voice mail" button that allows you to program a pause into the dialing, so it will call your voice mail, pause long enough for the auto attendant's message, then dial your password. Nice!
One thing it does not have that is nice: there is no "missed call" light. To me, if the caller didn't care to leave a message, then the call wasn't important. I can always check the Caller ID log if I need to see if someone called and didn't leave a message; I don't need the phone to tell me to do so. I also like the fact that the "message waiting" light is slow-blinking and not so bright that it's annoying.
The only negative I can see is their are three instant dial buttons can not be labeled, so you just have to memorize who they'll call once you load them.
One other comment: The finish on the handset is a textured matte - it took some getting used to, at least for us - but it's no reason to pass on the phone.
