ZPen is the Most Practical Digitizer Pen

By GrimReaper Verified Purchaser from Buffalo, NY on 07/27/2008

Cons:

Garish Appearance

Describe Yourself:

Power User

Pros:

Reliable Performance, Practical To Use, Easy To Install

Best Uses:

Multiple Desktop Applications

Primary use:

Business

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

There are a number of other digitizer pens out there (i.e., IOgear Digital Scribe & Mobile Digital Scribe). ZPen is more practical because it can clip to the top of a pad of paper, while these others clip awkwardly to a single piece of paper. Loosening the clip to remove a page from the pad tells the digitizer to start a fresh page of electronic notes. The ZPen comes with the full version of MyScript Notes, while other come with the "Lite" version.

ZPen Works!

I took the advice of David Pogue at the New York Times and ordered up a ZPen to try. It reliably captures handwritten notes at meetings for easy storage and retrieval off of my PC laptop. Only downside is that you can store notes only in the proprietary format or as a JPEG (with each page of notes being a separate file), and not together as a single pdf file. I upgraded (for free) the included "MyScriptsNotes" handwriting recognition software at the software company's website and trained the software as recommended (took around 15 minutes). It is reasonably accurate in converting my handwriting to Microsoft Word. Recommended.
