Pretty good sound, but lacks effect bass

By Member Verified Purchaser from San Diego, CA on 01/06/2009

Describe Yourself:

Musically Inclined

Pros:

Crisp Sound, Attractive Design, Easy To Connect

Best Uses:

Smaller Rooms, Basic Systems

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Easy hook up but lacks HDMI connections (if that is what you are looking for.) It works great for my application which is to use instead of the invisible TV speakers (which sound terrible), not for surround sound purposes. The only negative is that the bass effect is not very good, but you can always add a subwoofer. I tried various other products and overall this one works well for me.

Save Space, Sounds Great

By Applemaggot Verified Purchaser from Bothell, WA on 07/11/2008

Cons:

Could Use More Bass

Describe Yourself:

Tech Savvy

Pros:

Interfaces Well With Tv, Intuitive Controls, Clear Sound, Compact, Easy To Setup, Easy To Set Up

Best Uses:

Smaller Rooms, Condo's Or Apartments

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was able to completely eliminate an aging surround-sound system with this one unit. I was able to do this through a new LCD that has 4 HDMI switching built in with optical audio out. I do all the switching video and audio through the TV. All I needed was a way to upgrade the TV audio. As I live in an apartment and am looking at condo's, mounting a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system was not an option right now. This is probably the most economical solution out there if you don't need a built-in DVD player like the Yamaha's, and it's made by DENON! I eliminated 5 floor speakers, and a receiver with this setup. My living room has never looked cleaner. I have a DVD player, XBOX 360, and cable box hooked up to my TV via HDMI. I still have an open HDMI and a VGA for HTPC available as well. The TV is a Hitachi 37RV530U. I am planning to add a sub woofer though. Yamaha has a "discreet" unit that fits into an entertainment center that should do just fine.
