Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner

By Jim from Newburyport, Massachusetts on 10/07/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this scanner in April of 2014 and have had no problems with it. I particularly like the LED light system and its quick warm up. Between this and my previous V500, I have scanned thousands of slides and photographs. I am pleased with the ease of use of the scanning software, and the quality of the scans. Whenever I have had need to seek assistance, I have been treated courteously, and each time the issues have been solved. I would recommend this scanner for its price and ease of use.

Love the V600 Scanner

By Beano from TX on 10/06/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am an amateur photo enthusiast and have just run across boxes of old family slides from 3 generations back. After taking a limited number of them to a professional company to have them scanned to make print copies I realized how expensive this could become. So I researched slide scanners and decided to try the Epson V600. This is one of the best investments I could have made! It makes excellent scans and is very easy to use! I scan the slides, touch them up with my photo shop program, and print them for everyone in the family. Can't wait to try the film scanner option!

All-in-one Scanner

By Moemudhen from Florida on 10/05/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros The Scanner works as specified. It is easy to use on photo prints & documents. Cons Instructions are Poor and not complete. The Film Holders & Slide Holders are poorly made and could break easily if not very careful. Some of these items should be made better as this scanner is not an inexpensive scanner.

Epson V600 Scanner

By Bob from Williamsville, NY on 10/05/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have now had this scanner for three full years, and can find nothing but good things to say about it. Unquestionably, it is the best scanner on the planet for this price, exceeded only by the Epson V750 at more than twice the price. As my previous scanner could not convert negative and slides, I purchased the V600 mainly to convert old black and white negatives and to create digital images of my 50 to 60 year old Kodachrome slides before they fade. I wish the plastic carriers were a bit sturdier, but can find no other fault with this unit.

First Bed Epson Experience I've Had

By OldSchool from Birmingham, Alabama on 09/27/2015

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The software shipped with this machine and that available for download on the website do NOT solve the inoperability/compatibility issues I am up against. This machine will NOT function reliably or predictably in a Windows 10 Pro environment. Even AFTER applying all the recommended fixes. Not happy.

High quality, easy to use

By Foggygirl from Fort Bragg, CA on 08/30/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This scanner was a breeze to set up - ten minutes out of the box and I was scanning. The quality of the scanners far exceed the unit it replaced. I've scanned prints, negatives and documents. this unit is not designed for high volume document scanning but it does a wonderful job on the things it was designed for: photos. I scanned a photo which I swear came out better than the original. I would buy again.

Excellent Scanner

By RJT46 from Northern Utah on 08/24/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Epson V600 has exceeded my expectations. I have used it to scan hundreds of photos and documents. It offers so many options and is easy to use. One feature I really like is that there is no waiting for the scanner to warm up. It is ready to go as soon as the item being scanned is on the scanner. I have also used it to scan photos at different locations so I recommend keeping the original packing in case you need to transport it offsite. Scanning documents in PDF is also a neat feature.

Great scanner but?

By b2buck from Wichita, KS, USA on 08/02/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Scanner was easy to install and does a great job scanning prints and recognizing them. Big problem was that the ABBYY software crashed all Microsoft Office apps like Excel, Word and Outlook. As soon as I uninstalled that software the Office apps worked fine. Epson needs to either delete this software from the package or fix it so this does not happen.

Epson V600 Scanner

By Mr. Mann from Long Beach, Calif. on 07/20/2015

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

First I'll start this off by saying I've had four Epson inkjet printer and really enjoyed them all. But this scanner is one of the worst I've ever used. There seems to be dust on the lamp or lens. I've cleaned the glass bed over and over but the same little swirl of lint always appears in the same place. I don't know what the technical term is but there seems to be numerous pixels that always come out white. Even though the price is reasonable don't waste you money on the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner. Sorry Epson, but I have to be honest.

I have used two Epson scanners, and I have been pleased with both. The fact I can scan more than one photo at a time and they are saved as individual photos is very helpful. The function, scan to edit, is helpful in my work and writing.

technology needs to improve, but a good product

By RalphS from Akron, Oh on 07/12/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been holding off buying a scanner to transfer my 15 albums of family photos until now - this scanner is rated pretty high by the pundits. If you are an instant gratification person, keep waiting for the technology to improve and become faster. A 4x6 color print takes about a minute to scan and transfer to your computer file, and that includes the time it takes for the software and scanner to "recharge" for the next scan. Also, the software is somewhat haphazard: the scanner sometimes loads the picture sideways or upside down, or adds unnecessary white space around the scanned photo. This means you need to use your photo editing software (like iPhoto) to format the pictures after the photo is transferred to your computer for about 70% of the pictures. So, it is not a seamless, convenient plug and play type of product. My 2000 photo transfer project will be taking more than the month or so I was expecting to invest: sigh . . . I hope my kids appreciate the effort! Comparing the photo to the scanned file: the original photo is visibly sharper than the scanned image, so do not expect an identical copy. However, the price is very good for this product. If you are accepting the recommendation from the pundits who monitor these products as gospel, then you're not going to find anything significantly better than this, so just be patient and accept what is offered. Namaste.

Love our Epson Perfection V600 Scanner!!!

By gullahgeechee from Charleston, SC on 05/05/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We just received this scanner today and it was an easy setup to connect to our laptop and the software installed with no problems and is user friendly. It is lightweight and does not take up a lot of space. We followed the quick easy instructions to test all of the functions, such as scanning images, negative slides and film, enlargements, etc. and are very pleased with the results. We have a 40 plus year collection of negative slides and film, which we will be scanning and will use it for large format scanning, desktop publishing, etc. The v600 scanner provides the technology for us to use in our home and is an upgrade for us, so that we don't always have to pay for a professional to do the job. We are absolutely pleased with our purchase and highly recommend this product. We give a 5 plus star rating!!!

A wonderful tool

By DepotDoc from Greenville,NC on 05/01/2015

Bottom Line:

I have been using my V600 to scan a very diverse array of images: color slides, Negatives (both black & white and color) and a variety of prints in both black & white and color. I have examined my originals and the scans under high power magnification and am delighted with the fidelity of the scans! The interfaces with Photoshop work perfectly as well. I was very pleased with an earlier Epson scanner; this one was a great upgrade!

3-1/2 Years Later

By Larry from Boulder, CO, USA on 04/25/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I definitely like it. Its reliable. Warm-up time is short. Colors come out well. Can scan 4 or more photos and each is automatically separated into its own file. Automatically straightens each image (well, most of them) when the master is put in at an angle. Switching to or from the mode for scanning slides is not too difficult, and the scanning results are very good. Speed for up to 300 dpi is acceptable. What I dont care for is that it doesnt scan all the way to the edges of the bed, and it doesnt always detect the edge of a piece of paper correctly; it's slow in scanning with higher resolutions (but does a very good job); if you have to scan a large image in two parts, the greyshades in the two parts dont always match where the two parts overlap; Im not impressed with the ICE dust removal capability (perhaps I dont know how to use ICE.); and the cover is hinged on the short dimension, so you can only lift it in an area with lots of vertical clearance.

Better than I thought it would be

By BinkyBarnes from Northern Nevada on 04/01/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I previously used an Epson Perfection 2450 scanner. Although the V600 and the 2450 are flatbed scanners, they do a reasonable job with film, the V600 definitely better. I recently scanned a 35mm Tri-X B&W negative at 4800 ppi (16-bit) and enlarged it to 11x17 on my Epson R2000 printer. The result was remarkably good. I just wish the V600 accepted 4x5 film, like the 2450 did.

A lot of scanner for the money!

By Squeek from Olympia, Washington on 03/31/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have scanned nearly 8,000 35mm slides and negatives with the V600 scanner. I have found it to be easy to use; I use it almost exclusively in full automatic mode. At 600ppi I get a 3600 x 2400 pixel image from a 35mm slide or negative that looks very good on a 22-inch monitor. The only complaint I have is that, after about 7,000 scans, the scanner began to put a narrow black strip on three sides of the scanned image. That doesn't detract from the usefulness of the scan, and I can crop it off with Photoshop if I choose. I have recommended the scanner to a colleague, who is using it in the office with good results. For the money I don't think anyone could expect more. Now, doggone it, I have to come up with metadata for those nearly 3,000 scans!

works well

By gnowx from Boston, MA on 03/26/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The scanner, works as it should. The scans can be adjusted for resolution, so you can get bigger or smaller files. I bought it for scanning color and bw negatives. For that it works fine, although it is suppose to separate the pictures (in case there are 3/4 pics on a 35mm neg.). Sometimes you have to separate them manually. The photo program that is packaged with the scanner is fine; i thought i might have to use my Adobe Photoshop, but the smaller program does all that i have to do.

Epson Perfection V600 Scanner

By Don from O'Fallon, IL on 03/25/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am generally pleased with my scanner and would have rated it at 4 stars instead of 3 except for one extremely annoying feature. When I scan color slides, the scanner will often truncate portions of the slide close to the edge of the cardboard mount, forcing me to do multiple scans and then use ICE to make a new composite image that gives me the full image of the original slide. I don't know why the scanner does this but it is annoying as all get out. When I scan something, I simply want the scanner to scan the entire image that I give it. I can decide later what I might want to crop; I don't need the fool scanner doing this for me automatically.

Be Aware This Scanner Will Not Scan Contact Sheets

By Anonymous from Los Angeles, CA, USA on 02/16/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Does an excellent job scanning transparencies and negatives but transparency light in lid is only 2.9'' X 9.5". You can not scan full 8" X 10" contact sheets with this scanner, you must upgrade to the V700 to be able to do that. I didn't catch this in the specifications before i bought it and ended up giving it away and buying the V700. Disappointing... my old Epson Perfection 4990 Photo scanned 8" X 10" transparencies and negatives before its belt mechanism broke.

beware rebuilds

By charles saydah from nanuet, ny on 02/10/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I read great things about this scanner. I found the best price to come from Epson as a rebuild. I figured what I could I lose: I wasn't buying a used machine from someone who might have abused it; I was buying something the company itself was putting its reputation behind. Mistake. This machine must have slipped passed quality control the first time. When I got it (primarily to scan thousands of negatives I'd accumulated in the pre-digital age), it worked fine for about 20 negs, as advertised: fast, sharp, precise. Then it went haywire. For two strips of six negs each, it scanned only five. I tried several times. I went back to rescan the first negative strips that I had scanned successfully. Those scans also showed up incomplete. In addition, I wasn't getting accurate composition: parts of two adjacent negatives rather than one negative comprised each negative scan. I emailed support. It sent me back to the manual, which I had read and understood. I called support. The agent led me through a diagnostic routine, then determined there was a hardware problem and set up the process for me to get another machine. Disappointing, to be sure. But the response from Epson was good. I thought the agent with whom I was dealing said I'd be getting a new machine, which was an even better deal. As it turned out, it was going to be another rebuilt job. I said I wanted a new one; I wanted to return the first machine and get a credit. Epson said that, for a rebuild, it couldn't be done; all rebuild sales were final. So now I'm waiting for another rebuild -- Epson is paying for the reshipment of the defective machine back to the company -- and hoping for the best. I just hope I don't get stuck with another lemon and eventually winding up paying double what I expected for a good scanner.

Great Scanner for Photos

By Peggy from Twin Mountain, NH on 02/04/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I recently decided to find a scanner for my use in digitizing all my family photos that I've acquired over the years. I wanted one that would produce top quality images and also allow for some basic editing. After doing my research, I settled upon the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner as the best combination of price, quality, and functionality. So far I have digitized about 150 photos and done some touch-ups of about 50 of them, and I am very pleased with the results. The learning curve is pretty short; the scanner is very user-friendly, and the results are excellent. It fits my needs perfectly. I have not come across any negatives with this scanner.

Dependable workhorse.

By GM4Designs from Orange, CA, USA on 01/30/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use my scanner just about every day with my iMac and Photoshop for documenting vintage dog show magazines and memorabilia. I even used it to reproduce color transparencies from the 1940's and 1950's that had never been seen before and I was able to share them with thousands of fanciers on Facebook. It does an amazing job and my Epson scans can be tweaked to, well, perfection. I bought my first Epson Scanner in 1994 with my first Macintosh computer. That scanner came bundled with Photoshop 3.0 and I have been a loyal customer with Apple, Adobe and Epson ever since. This scanner is superb. (BTW my scanner in 1994 cost tens times as much as the V600!)

By Starbright from Tennessee on 01/18/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The scans of 35 mm slides are spectacular, ONCE I downloaded several drivers and utilities. I would think that you would keep the units that are being shipped out in 2015 a little more up to date than having to go back to 2013 to download essential parts for the scanner. Very frustrating. That being said, the scanner is top notch and I'm happy with my purchase. If the need arises I will purchase Epson products again.

I have hundreds of ...

By Curt from San Antonio, TX on 01/18/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have hundreds of colored slides taken from the 1950s thru the 80s. I have long wanted to scan them to digital images. In the past, I purchased two different inexpensive slide scanners and returned them because the scanned slides needed a lot of time consuming color corrections and the negative scans were totally unacceptable. I purchased this Epson V600 prepared to be disappointed. I only purchased it because the reviews I read were very good and the dealer offered a total satisfaction 14-day return policy. Still, I was skeptical but had nothing to lose. I have about four hundred very old slides that were taken with Ektachrome that have over time developed an overall orange tint. I considered them lost. This scanner has the Color Restoration option that does an amazing job of restoring the original colors in these slides. It is also the first scanner that I have used that does a very good job scanning negatives. There are features for the advanced user that I have not tried since the Auto Mode with its options satisfies all my expectations. I have now scanned over 300 slides. I cannot imagine a better product for the money and I am thrilled.

I was pleasantly surprised to see I can make prints from the negatives, amazing. Fast, easy to use, easy setup. I am thrilled with this scanner. I was also very appreciative of Adobe photoshop that was included, Oh my what a difference to my photos. I can do so much more. The sky is the limit.

Dear Epson, For about 3 or 4 days I have been scanning our family photo heirlooms dating back to the 1800's. Previously, I was using a copier scanner type of equipment. The difference in quality now that I'm using the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner is truly remarkable! A good scan does make a huge difference in preserving the quality of heritage photos. Thank you Epson for providing a high quality photo scanner to those of us wanting to preserve historic heritage family photos Sincerely, Henri Fecteau

Works great, just a few things though...

By wahoo from Undisclosed on 01/04/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Fairly easy to set up. At first I was a little frustrated but found the software disk in the packaging and eventually found the ON/OFF button on the right side toward the back. The power button should be on the front, guys! I have been using this to digitize old family slides. It only goes to 1200 DPI which is a little shy of the recommended 2000 DPI but should suffice for my purposes. Epson makes very nice scanners for the home user. The weak link in this process is how much time you spend dusting / cleaning the slides before you scan. I like using the mask to scan four slides at once. Have not used the automatic "cleanup" features but put to good use the version of photoshop that came with it. Overall, a near perfect combination of quality and functionality for the home user. About the best you can do for the money. By the way, this is a replacement for a 12 year old Epson scanner that still works, just became obsolete with change to Windows 7, etc.

Epson V600 Scanner

By cobb from Oakland, MI on 12/12/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this scanner to create JPG files for more than 2,200 family 35 MM color slides recently discovered in my mother-in-law's basement that dated back as far as 1956! The finished product is truly outstanding and I recommend this scanner for projects of this type. The software also allowed me to successfully remove both scratches and dust from the slides to create beautiful files. We made BR disc copies of these files and have given them to other family members as Christmas presents! I later used the scanner to copy 4x6 photographs of an European trip made in 2000 with similar success. I highly recommend the V600 scanner to everyone considering projects of this type. It was money well spent!

Beautiful scans

By Mike pediNS from Boston, MA on 12/09/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Con's: 1. long set up (took me 1 1/2 hours to get it working, running Yosemite on an iMac. Required long software downloads, searching for updated drivers on the Epson web site, and multiple failed attempts to scan before I "got it." (The hard-wiring was easy.) 2. Long scan time. I bought this to digitize 35 mm operative photos; I have hundreds to scan, but since it takes almost 4 minutes to scan 4 slides, I will need to set aside a lot of time for this task! 3..Although Photoshop Elements is included, it was not possible for me to scan directly to that application, despite explicit instructions and directions to the contrary. Pro's: 1. The scanned images are gorgeous, and publication-worthy 2. Photoshop Elements is included! For one or two slides at a time, this scanner would be terrific. The scan quality is excellent and document copies were superb. It will be too slow for the work I need to do --

All Negatives Very Blurry with Horrible Contrast

By Unhappy from USA, Mobile, AL, USA on 12/06/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It is not the source- my negatives are perfectly clean, crisp and colored. The film is flat. It is not damaged in any way. When viewed with a backlight, the negatives are fantastic. It is not my computer. My screen produces HD images from all types of sources available online. The colors are true. It is not the software- I've tried almost every combination of choices using the professional scan software option to capture an image. ALL are blurry and incapable of distinguishing well defined areas of the photo where there happens to be a high contrast. The imperfections are NOT remedied with post-scan processing software. The software masks them slightly. The scanner simply cannot find the correct focal point for the image. It's just like a camera lens. Have you ever tried to photograph a flower up close and not adjusted the macro settings? The camera cannot produce the image without blurring- it cannot focus because it is too close. The same issue appears to be occurring with this scanner, but unfortunately, I do not have a macro setting to adjust. I surmise the backlight is too dim as well. I cannot confirm because it shuts down when the scanner lid is slightly opened. Only buy his scanner if you want quick images to post on facebook. This is not for a person attempting to capture their negatives digitally in a quality manner for databasing of your family moments. It will give you an image. It will not look like the picture you captured on film.

like other hardware items i have purchased, there is always a learning curve. i take it all scanners are some what slow, but i should figure out the most efficient ways to operate the scanner. Good scanner, maybe great as I get to know it with use. The investment is worthwhile. i have thousands and thousands of photo, slides and negatives. Do I have the time to actually capture them to a digital format? Epson has given me the tool to start and find out.

To early to review this scanner. Just purchased couple week's ago. I like the quality of the scan's. I hope it last longer than the last two Epson scanners. I'm disappointed that the scanners don't last long. I own Epson perfection 3170 and V-500 photo scanners. Neither one is working now. Thanks to Epson for giving me price break on this scanner which makes me feel better. I hope Epson improves registration window form / buttons and make them more visible, so that I do not stumble several times to go back and try to register the product.

Very Good Scanner

By David from Maryland on 10/27/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have only been using the V600 for a few days, but have already managed almost 1,000 scans of old negatives. I tried this years ago and gave up because my 300 DPI scanners did not offer the resolution I needed for scanning slides and 35mm negatives. It looks like I might finish the job this time. I have found a few things by trial and error. For instance, crop before scanning, not after. I had to rescan numerous overexposed negatives after I learned that trick. I also found that a piece of cardboard cut to reach from the side of the scanner plate to the transparency window allows me to align a negative directly on the plate without having to fight with the transparency frames. They are fine for 35mm film strips, but not so user friendly with individual 120 negatives. Scanning is slow, but that is to be expected when scanning at 3200 or 6400 DPI. It is impressive to see a 100 MB file produced from a 35mm negative. I find it worth the time, since most of the negatives I am dealing with are from WWII and I want to save all the detail I can.

Very much satisfied and happy that I bought this model. It suits my photo scanning purposes exactly. By Hummer1 from College Station, Texas on 10/13/2014

Bottom Line:

Once hooked up and installed it works great. It is a little confusing whether you are scanning, producing a pdf or doing something else. Finally, I found that if I pressed the pdf button on the front of the scanner, the software presented me with all the options I needed. The first thing you have to find is the file location where the scanner is going to place your document, that is on another screen...once you set that up, you are good to go...clicking on the scan button makes a page, clicking on it again makes another one, and clicking finish, forms all of the scanned pages into a single pdf document. That is nice...but a little hard to find.

Almost perfect!

By Adioryx from Hawaii on 10/05/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is the second Epson flatbed scanner I've purchased over the years. I had some technical issues with the first model and upgraded to the V600 and have been using it with great success for the past three years. My latest and most ambitious project was the digitalizing of my entire photo collections to include thousands of prints, slides, and negatives. This daunting task (still ongoing) was accomplished rather routinely once becoming familiar with the accompanying software. The work was tedious and slow, but the results were acceptable for my needs. However, if I was to do it again, I would seriously consider using equipment specialized for slides/negatives as the flimsy V600 attachment for these formats can be problematic at times. Flat documents such as prints, charts, letters, receipts, etc. were quickly scanned with great success.

I bought two Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanners for my business. I needed a scanner that can scan photos, negatives of many sizes, slides, and various documents. I recently scanned the class photos of an entire senior class from a yearbook. They turned out great. And I've only begun to scratch the surface of what this scanner is capable of. Small enough for home. Big enough for business. I could not be happier.

Bottom Line:

As with any product purchased for a singular purpose, you want it to satisfy your needs, both ergonomically and functionally. This unit is lacking in location of on/off switch and clear precise cropping lines to satisfy my needs. Others may find this of little bother. I like to quickly crop within documents to extract only what I need. You have to go through too many steps to achieve this. Other than these small concerns, the Epson is useful and I would, grrrr, recommend it to others (after they upgrade functions).

Great scanner

By John from Queen Valley, AZ on 07/20/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This machine is just perfect. I had the scanner up and running in just a few minutes. Everything is very intuitive, you almost don't need a manual, although it is good to have for some of the finer details. Some reviews I read before buying the scanner said that they had trouble setting it up, but I am 75 and had no trouble so maybe these people have some other problem with Epson. If there was a software problem everybody would have the same problem. They may have been trying to install it on a computer with too little disk space or too little RAMM. When you download the software it automatically checks for the latest driver, but Just in case, I went to Epson's web site, found the scanner and it recommended a special Download for Microsoft. I downloaded that too. You can do just about everything in "Home Mode". If you need finer adjustments, "Professional Mode" takes care of them quite easily. I like the fact that you can scan multiple prints at the same time and they come out as individual scans, just leave about a quarter inch between them. Slides and negs. are just as easy. The only negative is the film/slide holder is very flimsy and I doubt it will hold up over prolonged use, but I guess replacements are available. Digital Ice works fine on color, almost no degradation in sharpness...too bad it dosen't work in B&W. The copy mode is great. Just have your printer tuned on, press "copy" button on front of machine, get preview, check what type of copy you want, press scan and and your printer will print out a perfect copy...almost easier than a dedicated copy machine. I have an Epson printer so maybe that's why it was so flawless, but it should work on other printers just as well. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is the OCR program. The ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint is straight out of the 90,s. It is a very limited program with almost no formatting tools In 1 mode they want you so sign up for a subscription to do that function and they strongly suggest you upgrade to their professional mode for almost 3/4 the price of the scanner itself. The best thing to do is to scan and convert the text into Microsoft Word, copy and past it into a page layout program or OpenOffice and format it there. But watch out, it shows it is scanning, but watch the scan button, if it changes press save or else it will keep scanning multiple copies. Epson should find a different OCR program so they don't ruin a good reputation for a Great scanner.

PhotoScanner V600

By Anonymous from Georgia on 07/12/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have just started using my scanner. Set up was easy and the software it came with is awesome! Some of the slides I have scanned have actually been over corrected. Meaning the software did to much color enhancing. It can be fixed and I think it is an issue of becoming more familiar with all the bells and whistles of the scanner. But for the most part I am very happy. I have only done a small number but I am already more happy with this scanner than the last one I had, which quit working mid way through.

Everything I was looking for

By pnutj58 from Vancouver, WA on 07/10/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I needed a scanner that could scan negatives of all sizes. While this one does not have a specific slot for size 110 film from back in the '70s, it is extremely easy to fit it into one of the other forms. It also scans "positives" which is helpful. Fixing color, etc. is easy and can be done automatically or manually. I simply can't say enough good things about this product. I bought two of them for my business. The only thing I can't comment on, at this time, is longevity, because I've only had it a short time. But, I have an older Epson scanner that is still working great and it's about 8 years old.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

By AbaloneInk from SF Bay Area, CA on 07/09/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Got a great deal, got it fast, got it hooked up and working quick. Only 2 problems- 1 - OCR software interface with MS Office Suite 2013, resolved easily with removal of OCR software. Now no OCR scan available, but I don't usually use that and can use in on another computer with earlier version of MS Office Suite. 2 - Manual did not clearly list my "multiple photo scan" issue, but help line directed me to info in manual. Just couldn't find it easily. Works great, thank you for another excellent Epson product!

Slide Conversion

By Tech Guy from Redding, CA on 07/09/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I used the Epson V600 Photo to scan old family slides, dating back to the 1960s. In scanning over 850 slides to JPG I had no problems. It was great being able to scan four slides at a time. I highly recommend.

Fast and accurate

By GMc from Ottawa, KS on 07/08/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My 3170 was good at scans but took a little time from start to scan. The V600 doesn't "warm up" and goes directly to scan, saving a couple of seconds. Images are very accurate and captures sharper. Will scan legal size (11x14) documents. One of the best single page scanners I've used.

My new Epson V600 may be a good product, but....Epson badly needs an operating manual. There is many ways to access this scanner, with different results. I need an instruction manual!!!!! Going back and forth with trial and error is just too time consuming.

meets expectation

By Rewster from Dallas, TX on 07/08/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought the V600 after thoroughly reviewing all the other scanners in its price range. I bought it principally because it had Digital ICE as part of the hardware. It performs as expected. Like all scanners in this price range the biggest issue is the limited availability to adjust the image quality. The V600 is the best at this that I have used. I was slightly disappointed that I could not individually adjust multiple images when I wanted to scan them together, but that is not a deal breaker. Lastly, I wish someone would teach Epson how to write an instruction manual. It is the worst I have ever used.

I have used the V600 for scanning various type of projects varying from scanning plain documents to films i.e. color negatives both positive and negative, black & white negatives from 620, 35mm, 120mm and the results have been very good. Have also use the V600 as a copy machine with very positive results (hard to tell the copy from originals).

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

By GodlessOldMan from Arizona on 07/08/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have had this scanner for 11 months and am getting pretty efficient digital conversion. I have done over 17,00 photos so far, mostly 35 mm slides but some photos. In most cases where I have photos and the original negative it is easier to use the photo than the negative for a couple reasons but primarily a "curling" problem with negatives but partially because many of my negatives are not in strips of 4. I give the unit a 4 because the original unit developed a focus issue. Epson replaced the unit but forgot the FedEx return shipping tag but they did get it squared away.

Epson V600

By Richard from Northern Virginia on 07/08/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I and using an iMac with the latest operating system installed. I must admit that there were a few glitches getting the scanner to work. However, now that it is working pretty durn well I love this scanner. My wife's parents lived the last of their 11 years with us. The old fella was 102 when he passed. We finally started going through the boxes, and boxes of goods they brought with them and we came across a couple of large boxes of photos, black and white and color as well as over a thousand slides. So I have been scanning all these memories and my wife is sending copies to her brothers. Most of the pics have not been seen by family in 30 40 years so they are all thrilled and I am a hero - thanks to this V600 scanner. It just works wonders separating pics all put on the screen together and plotting them in a folder individually neat as you please. Thank you Epson for this great machine. If it were to die I would get another right away.

From a V500 to a V600 Photo Scanner

By Chris 1066 from Rhode Island on 07/06/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My V500 Scanner is perfectly OK but in any event I bought the V600 anticipating the same excellent results with faster response time. It met those expectations. While I have not yet run it through all it's paces, their may be more pleasant surprises to come. There are still a few simple opportunities for improvements. The issues remain about the same when compared with the V500. They are: * Make the User Guide fully printable from the start to avoid having to separately print each section. * Increase the size of the Button Icons and also Illuminate them. * The Software Menus should be better connected and more intuitive. Those changes will make an excellent scanner outstanding.

Performance on iMac

By momvera from Cincinnati, Ohio on 06/25/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The DVD said it was from Japan. I bought it at Apple on line, delivered today, with my expectation that it would make my family history work faster and easier than the equipment I have now. It is the same kind of issue the old Windows products had before Steve Jobs made computer life a joy. It is just too much hassle for the money. Very poorly documented and the won't even allow the Guide Book to be downloaded or burnt to a DVD to examine more closely. I'd say it was my computer's fault but I have old DOS computers stashed in our hone commuter "grave yard." The attraction is the pixel count sound fantastic. but getting it to recognize itself is not going to be my job. I have too much to do to pay for someone else's fun with bugs.

I think the Epson Perfection V600 may be perfect for print-pictures (great quality) but old slides are problematic by not always centering an image can't figure it out since the other 3 may scan beautifully. Need a feature that clearly indicates SLIDE to hard drive (or Photoshop file). OR need the workaround. Would recommend the quality.

Transferring slides to digital format -crazy easy!

By Thank A Veteran Every Day from South Shore of Boston, Massachusetts on 05/23/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My mother has decades of slides that require full set up of an ancient projector and screen to view. This scanner has made it incredibly easy to transfer the slides to a digital format, and therefore much easier to view and share with other family members. This photo scanner is ridiculously easy to use - and I am NOT a computer person whatsoever. It has the capability to transfer 4 slides at a time; negatives from developed film; and, of course, photos of all sizes. As our parents get older, my husband and I plan on scanning their old photos so that everyone in the family can enjoy the family history. Highly recommend this scanner.

Disappointed

By Bill from San Francisco Bay Area on 05/14/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My V600 does a good job on simple tasks like scanning photo prints and magazine pics. However, I wanted it to scan artwork done on tinted charcoal paper. It does a very poor job on this. My frustration is that Epson has failed to publish any info on how to use the V600 features to make corrections, so you are left to trial and error (mostly error). My clue should have been the free copy of Photoshop Elements included. With CS6 I can correct most of the problems, but I wish Epson would see fit to share some of its info on how to use it's software effectively.

The scanner arrived this morning. I installed the scanner drivers and the accompanying software. Hooked the scanner to my computer and after about an hour playing with the various settings I'm now able to scan 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 color negatives 3 up. These old negatives are from my wedding some 45 years ago. I'm thrilled with the scanner, but ICE doesn't seem to remove any dust spots (even when I turn it on.)

By WCB3 from New Mexico on 03/24/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After a day's use I love this scanner. I was able to scan multiple photos in one scan. Dust removal and color correction is very good. I have not scanned slides or negatives yet. The scanning process allows for many levels of customization and is executed through an easy to navigate dialogue box. There is a copy of Adobe Photo Elements 9 included. The scanner's software includes a OCR software, ABBY V. 6 Sprint, that allows you to convert scanned documents into editable Word or Excel documents. There is a "Copy" function that allows you to copy a document that prints through your printer. The "Scan to Email" blows, you can only scan to MS Outlook. At the highest resolution, 1200dpi, the scan takes much longer than at say 300dpi, but, that is to be expected.

Simply I have been quite impressed with this Epson scanner! Some individuals reporting problems with the supplied software but for me along with the Adobe Element software I have yet found that to be the case.I have been able to make high quality scans from the start, and the software fairly intuitive in its use! I have also found as of late a number pieces of peripheral equipment arriving with cheap trashy electrician cords and connections, not the case in this unit . All the cords themselves are also more than adequate in length. Very responsive, smooth, and quite in operation. Results are excellent! Only issue be sure your computer components are up to the task!

Perfection in Scanning

By ldino from Grand Haven, MI on 03/04/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I recently purchased the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner for my home office, I currently have the V500 at work and love the LED technology that lets me scan without the warm-up wait. The quality of the scans are outstanding. My primary purpose is for scanning film, 120 mm, 35 mm negatives and many, many 35 mm slides. The holders and transparency scanning capabilities of this scanner are really as the name says "Perfection" I have very little I have to do to a slide or to scanned film to clean them up or correct color, the scanner takes care of most of this for me making the overall process of scanning years worth of slides and film to a digital format to preserve our family memories a relatively quick and easy process.

From the looks of it this scanner, although built more cheaply than my old warhorse the Epson 2450, has many neat features. The best is that I do have to suffer that"scanner is warming" up waste of time. It worked very well. The only thing that I do not understand is the slide holders. I find them useless and I had originally bought the 600 to scan slides. What can I say.

After trying to scan some negatives on another scanner that was meant for 35mm, I bought the V600 as I needed a unit that would handle some medium format negatives from the 50s. The negatives were in pretty bad shape with lots of scratches, dirt and who knows what on them. I selected the Digital ICE option when scanning and I have to say it is a magical! I thought I'd have to spent hours trying to fix the images up to a decent state for printing, but I don't have to do anything! Thanks Epson!

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

By oldgeologist39 from Baton Rouge, Louisiana on 02/09/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use this scanner to mainly convert Black and White negatives, color negatives and color positive film in to digital images. I have small size film through 120 roll film and have also scanned strips through 4 x 5 in cut film when the image allows me to crop it in a panorama manner. I was amazed at the ability of the color restoration ability to correct off color and faded Ektachrome slides. The Digital Ice works quite well to correct blemishes including removal of some hair and dust from the images. I am very pleased with the ability. Only wish it could scan 4 inch wide film. That would allow me to work with 4x5 film on the scanner.

Bottom Line:

I bought this to replace my old Epson 4490 which died recently. My need was based on slide scanning and it seems to do well at this task. It is a little slow at scanning, and loading and unloading is a pain, but the 3200 dpi scans are good.(~1 min per slide) A power interrupt on the scanner will require a software restart. It does remember setup parameters so once things are working as you want them its easy to stop and start, however. The options are many, but the scans are very good.

Best Scanner Ever!

By djr56 from Wisconsin Dells, WI on 02/02/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this scanner to scan old negatives and slides of my family. I was surprised that this scanner included a free copy of Adobe Elements 9. The scanner has selections for getting rid of dust particles and for restoring color. In a few cases, the slides were bad enough that the restoration of color made them look worse. But there were very few exceptions. Most were fantastic. I also scanned slides for my husbands family and restored the color. The family had them made in to a cd slide show and all enjoyed them and were amazed at the color. I would have a difficult time replacing this as it's performed beyond what I expected. The more "restoring" you choose, the longer it takes for the scan to process. I don't have the highest memory so I'm sure with a newer computer it would be faster. But it is well worth any wait to see the results!

Needs a manual!

By Jack from Princeton, NJ on 01/28/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This product does not come with any manual. By trial and error I think I can make it do what I bought it for, but that took a lot of trial and error, and I have no information about other things it might be able to do. For example, there is no explanation of the function of the four button on the front of the unit. There is no need for a 100-page manual, but a straight forward 10-page manual would greatly enhance the unit.

excellent scanner

By reflector from Indianapolis, IN on 01/23/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a great scanner, with excellent software. I'm an artist, so detail and color are important. I've used this scanner with photographic prints, negatives, and slides and had excellent results that need little editing. My earlier scanners (not Epson) had been disappointing with slides and negatives -- muddy color and detail. This scanner does a much better job. I also paint watercolors, which I scan. The scanner does a good job with these, too, though the color needs more adjustment. I found that I had to scan them as documents rather than photos (how I had scanned them before). I have also used the OCR, ABBYY FineReader, and found it excellent in producing editable text. Altogether, this is a terrific scanner. My only wish is that I could afford a larger one!

Performs as Advertised

By LakeHouseGramps from Shoreview, MN on 01/16/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The V600 is a fine product and performs as advertised. It was easy to setup and I was able to put it into use within 30 minutes. The only delay was waiting for the software to load and then update. My only comment would be that the instructions are minimal at best. I did not have difficulty as it's installation and setup was not unlike many other products I own. However, for some people, they may require more step by step instructions.

Epson V600 is a blast

By snoids from Weeki Wachee, FL on 01/15/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Hands down the best scanner I have owned. The clarity is amazing and the color reproduction is right on. Being able to scan at very high % give you the ability to produce posters from tiny pictures. I scanned color slides from an old slide set and made 13 X 19 inch posters that were perfect reproductions. I like the fact that you can set up the software interface to be simple or as intricate as you want. perfect for beginners or experts.

Great Scanner; Twain Driver & Elements software

By EZ from Indiana on 01/14/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

When scanning thro Editing Software, close the Scanner Program and then from the Image Editor: select import thro the scanner. Works Great! Excellent scans for this class of scanner. Elements 9 software is outdated, latest is Elements 12. This is unimportant if you have editing software already. This is a terrific scanner overall for the $, giving terrific detail and color rendering. I have been using it now for several months on Windows 8 system & on a Mac and get great results on both. Recommend it for the budget minded.

Excellent scanner, but slow

By Bill from Maryland on 01/12/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought the V600 to replace an older brand X photo scanner due to incompatibility with Windows 7. Very pleased overall with results, especially when using Pro settings. To speed up the scanning process (I have thousands of slides to digitize), I'm using the Home mode and accepting the narrower selection of editing features. Wish the 35mm slide tray was a little more exact as there is slop around the slides, and every slide has to be manually adjusted in preview to capture the entire image. Takes quite a while to scan, but since it is pretty much automatic, I do other tasks in between changing out slides and doing the preview adjustments. Have done a number of old photos as well and am quite happy with the restored results. Also would be nice if Epson offered carriers for other than the 35 mm and med format- have seen some offered by outside vendors but not too sure if they would work.

great for detailed artwork

By scannerscat from Austin, TX on 01/02/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This scanner is great for scanning detailed scratchboard artwork. I can get great resolution and see individual scratches that are not visible with even a high quality camera. This is very useful for showing off detailed artwork to buyers. I think this should be high enough quality to produce a giclee print from. It's also a cinch to use.

By dean from Western Slope, Colorado on 12/27/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The V600 is easy to use. Photos do not to have to be strait when scanning, V600 automatically straitens them for you; also, you are able to scan multiple photos at one time and V600 will separate them so you have individual photos instead of a group of photos on one page. In the professional mode, I am able to edit each photo, as I deem necessary. When scanning negatives or slides I am able to scan two strips of six negatives at one time, the same with slides. I am most satisfied with the V600 scanner, Thank you for a product well done. Dean

Have over 3,000 color slides that I want to put on my computer for my kids (4) to have. I know they'll never use my old slide projector to view these great family & travel pictures,so now I have a "bucket list" project.. I have only transfered about 200 pictures, but it has been interesting & fun!!! I have made a few into photo pictures & sent them to my kids with their Christmas cards.. All were surprised, and very thankful.. I know doing only four at a time makes this a major project, but I hope to get really into it after the holidays.. The V600 works great & I am very happy with the results !!!

V600 Scanner

By beansqueezins from Newberg, Oregon on 12/17/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I researched at length for a scanner that would accomplish my goals and fit within my budget. The V600 met all the criteria. I was especially interested in scanning panoramic images taken on a modified camera (35mm) that yielded a 93mm wide image. Most flatbed scanners have the formats limited to the standard 24x36mm with a frame around them. From my research I was able to determine that he V600 would handle 6x9cm images so it would also be able to handle my wider format images. Quality and image sharpness is excellent as well.

The jury is still out

By mgrogie from Metro Detroit, MI on 12/17/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It wasn't until the last day of my 30 day free trial that I got around to installing this photo scanner which I very much needed as I have a 100 year collection of thousands of negatives, prints and slides that need to be digitized. I spent perhaps five hours experimenting with it last night. Alas, I discovered it didn't matter that I waited until the last day. 30 days would not suffice, 90 days would not suffice to sufficiently evaluate this scanner. I have been using a document scanner for years that does a great job with photos but cannot do slides or negatives. So that was the main purpose behind this purchase, to handle my slides and negatives. And it did not take me long at all to understand that scanning slides and negatives is going to require a big learning curve. That's the first big negative. I can already see that this is going to be a huge amount of work. Perhaps after I've gotten comfortable with ICE and PhotoShop, neither of which I've used before, I'll feel differently. In fact, getting the free PhotoShop was a major inducement to buying this scanner since that alone justified the price. But I was quite surprised at how difficult it is to use and how low the resolution is on the scanned output. Also I specifically asked if it was possible to scan negative and slides without using the provided masks as I figured it would be a big time saver just to throw them on the glass instead of fitting them into the frame. Alas, it's not possible. You must use the frame. Otherwise you get an error message saying it cannot do the scan. So there is a significant problem already with the very substantial difficulty of scanning negatves, not only how awkward it is to fit them into the framing device, but that the resolution is just so low. As I said you get an error message if you do not use that device. I have tried laying negative strips directly on the glass and I have found that I can ignore the error message and it will still scan. But because of the design, there is a small and quite unnecessary space between the lense and the glass that prevents contact and therefore the negative cannot be scanned in sharp focus. There really is no need for this design as it makes the process of getting a quality scan much more difficult. On the plus side, and there are a lot of plusses, I have reviewed the specs for all the higher priced scanners and found that this one does indeed have the highest resolution that Epson makes in a scanner. And to be fair, though the scanned images are really small files (50-150KB), unless I blow them up all the way to fill my 22" monitor, they look quite acceptable. So I have concluded I have a lot of study and practice yet to do before I can do justice to a review. It is one of the very highest rated photo scanners that I found in my research and I am hoping the rating is ultimately justified by the performance. The big minus here is that I can already see that it's going to be a big chore to scan negatives. On the other hand, I don't know if any other scanner would be easier. On the plus side, and this is a very big plus, scanning slides seems to be a snap. You just drop the slides into the provided mask and hit scan. The whole process takes just a few seconds. And I'm already well equipped to scan photos and assume this one will do at least as good a job as my all-in-one unit, probably a good deal better. I may just have to have prints made from my negatives and scan the prints instead. Fortunately, negative strips are the smallest part of my collection. The largest part are the thousands of slides and I'm already satisfied just in this short time, that this will do a great job with the slides. For that alone, the purchase was worth it. Again, I reserve the right to publish an update to this review in the months ahead as I proceed with my mammoth archiving project and learn a great deal more about this scanner.

To date, over 2000 b/w , ...

By Uno de Chile from Santiago, Chile on 12/16/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

To date, over 2000 b/w , color negatives, 35 m/m slides have passed through my v600 scanner, and results are excellent, in many cases where very faded slides are scanned, they are almost magically restored to their true original colors by only selecting and pressing the "Color Restoration" Button. The "Backlight Correction" with it's three options are also a plus. My only unfavorable comment is the difficulty in opening scanned images in Photoshop Elements, and also the lack of a OSR program for this scanner.

V600 Scanner

By Buddy from Cumming, GA on 12/16/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have hundreds of negatives, positives (slides) and photos that I would like to put on CDs or DVDs, or in albums, or even make 8 x 10 photos for framing. Also, many Ektachrome slides taken around 50 yiears ago have now deteriorated to almost a monochrome brownish-orange, not suitable for any use. I had a good film scanner (no photos), but it had no features like adjusting resolution or color restoration. When I changed from Windows XP to Windows 700 and Vista, it no longer worked. A friend told me that he bought an Epson V600 about a year earlier that would scan negatives, slides, and photos and that it had features like selecting resolution and color correction. After researching it and viewing comments, I ordered one. It had one defect in that there was a tiny white spot, apparently under the glass where it could not be reached to clean. Epson was very helpful in troubleshooting, and sent a replacement along with instructions to return the defective one. I tested it in all modes, including restoring the color on an Ektachrome slide, and I was very pleased with the results. I would highly recommend it to anyone. One addtional comment. When my friend recommended it, I researched it and noted the price had gone up something like 20%, maybe a little less. I decided to think it over, and the next day decided I would go ahead and order it. I found that the price had gone up overnight close to another 8% or so. It is still worth it, and it was just a little over 1/2 what I paid for my original scanner that had no editing featuires and would not scan photos.

Bottom Line:

This scanner was purchased to replace an older model from Canon, which I thought had served me well. Scans from this scanner of the exact same negatives soon showed me that I could get much more detail and sharpness from my old negatives than I had been getting. I have only used this scanner for documents and 120 film negative scans and it works very well for both. Primary reason for choosing this scanner was fellow photographers comments, price and my complete satisfaction with 2 separate Epson printers. Overall, very pleased with this purchase.

Good Hardware, Some Software Issues

By Mr News from Tampa Bay on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The V600 is actually a great piece of hardware, but software installation issues knock it down a star. As others have noted, software installation from disc does NOT follow the stated instructions, is confusing, and prone to failure. In addition, the software version on the disc is outdated, and the program(s) must be downloaded from this website for use with the most recent OS. Again, the extra steps and procedures are poorly described, and may cause frustration. Despite all this, if you do managed to get the software and hardware installed and working, the UI is fairly good, usage is relatively easy, and results are outstanding. I use this scanner only as a flatbed, owning a separate film scanner for negatives and slides. I tested my third-party software for that scanner with the V600, and was disappointed. The Epson scanner software is actually better. So for prints and other flat, positive materials, the V600 can yield excellent results.

Very good scanner for ordinary use. The scanner only scans 4 slides at a time. I would like to be able to scan lots of 35 MM slides and negatives quickly. Photo Scanner

By Wisconsinite from Deer Park, Wisconsin on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am delighted with this scanner for the huge process of archiving our old hard copy photos for the kids. It's easy to use, even for my grandma self. The directions could have better explained how to scan multiple photos to separate files but all you need to do is make sure they're a bit spread apart on the scanner bed and it pops into that mode as well, but some of my first scans came out as a single file of several pictures. The corrections it allows you to make to enhance pictures are adequate for the amount you'll want to bother with when doing a massive project. All in all, this is a great workhorse for preserving old photos. The speed is good as it eliminates the "preview" mode many scanners have, goes right to the scanner and it's easy to designate where the photos will be stored on your computer so you can file, name and sort as you go.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this scanner. I have scanned thousands of slides and have had very little trouble. It will restore color on some slides that are over 40 years old and removes dust motes well with the digital ice feature. Occasionally the scanned copies have black borders and I have to re-scan them or edit the borders out. I do not know why this is so I have started previewing every copy before scanning to make the correction necessary. The color is good and with a little editing it can be restored to the original quality.

Excellent scanner for the money

By Anonymous from Tampa, FL on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought the V600 to replace my older Perfection 2400 Photo scanner, which still worked but was beginning to show signs of wear. I was particularly interested in the V600's film/slide scanning capability, although I also have an excellent 35mm film scanner that the V600 can't touch. Out of the box I tried a color scan of a magazine cover that happened to be nearby. The reproduction was perfect, with no evidence of screening or other print media artifacts. Then I tried some old 35mm color negatives that were taken over 20 years ago with a cheap consumer camera. The scans were quite good using the default scanner settings and automatic adjustment features. This is where things began to unravel a bit. The manual adjustments available in the V600 are minimal and not at all intuitive to someone with a deep understanding of color correction. As is usual with all Epson products, the user guide is superficial and fairly useless, so color correcting a poorly exposed negative was very difficult. Fortunately, there are third party applications that are quite effective and work well with the V600, so I only use the Epson Scan software for basic stuff like document scanning and to scan old photographs for archiving or restoration. Overall, I got what I paid for and am happy with the V600. I'm a big fan of Epson products in general, and would recommend the V600 to anyone needing a mid range flatbed scanner.

Beware the ABBYY Fine Reader software

By Anonymous from Beaumont, CA on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The scanner is great, but...if you have Office 2013, the Reader is not compatible. No warning is given in the packaging. Don't load it. The Epson Support site notes an update. I didn't try it--just uninstalled the Reader.

Good buy!

By Stoney from Huntington, IN on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've used this scanner for a couple of months now and have found it has done everything that it was advertised as doing. I used it for many 35mm slides, with several that were of very poor quality and with the software provided really made them much better. I'd gladly recommend it to my friends.

Pretty Perfect!

By Photoguy from Bridgewater, NJ on 12/12/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Received my Epson Perfection V600 one day after order + free shipping! 100% satisfied with B&H Photo. While I have yet to try any slides, my prints of various sizes and formats have been scanned perfectly. The color reproduction is spot on. And, the color reproduction enhancement function really fixes up the old faded color in my oldest prints. If I had to criticize, it would be that the saturation level is off a hair. No big deal as my Aperture software is doing an excellent job with photo finishing. With prints where I took very sharp exposures using my old Pentax and Nikon N6006 cameras, sharpening with my software was at a minimum. I am very satisfied with the quality and ease of use and setup with the V600. I am using a Mac and no issues with drivers or downloading software. I have not even tried to use any higher resolutions, save only going from 300dpi to 800dpi on some print scans. Looking forward to doing many more scans! Great product! Photoguy

My main purpose for this ...

By Edwnd Knnor from South Mills, NC on 11/26/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My main purpose for this scanner was to archive family photos that have been stored in various boxes since the 30's. It's a wonder that they have survived this long and need to be digitally archived before they are gone forever. What's great about this scanner is that I can load up as many photos as I can fit on the scanner glass and it automatically differentiates between each one, numbers them, allows you to auto rotate before scanning and auto-numbers the filename outputs. Then it systematically scans through each photo as if they were put on the glass at different times. This is a HUGE time saver. The speed of the scanner is faster than other/older scanners I have owned - but as with all scanners - the speed of the scan is proportional to the resolution of the scan. The higher the resolution - the slower the scan. The scanner has several extra scan modes other than just automatic and numerous settings in each mode which I am still experimenting with. It also has four customizable buttons on the front to instantly scan, copy, scan-to-email and create PDFs. And, with the included Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, I have been able to easily convert scanned documents into editable text. I have used the negative and slide holders and found that they are relatively easy to use. The slide holder works fine but the negative holder does not clip together as tightly as I would like when scanning negatives. Older negatives tend to curl a bit and I think the holders would work a little better if they had register pins which would help hold the width of the negative and thus flatten it when the holder is snapped together. Otherwise, the scanner does a great job of scanning multiple negatives and allowing you to make numerous different adjustments to each one before scanning so that you can obtain that perfect scan.

Epson V600 - a Great Scanner

By DeeJayCee from Tucson, AZ on 11/14/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I just finished scanning thousands of slides - some were 40+ years old. It restored the color on most of them and got rid of dust motes with the Digital Ice Feature. Before using this scanner the slides had so many black dots from dust that I spent hours removing them one at a time with an editing program. While a few dust motes remained on some of the older slides, it did get rid of most of them and saved a lot of time. The only negative I found with the scanner was that, it occasionally would develop a memory glitch and the slides would scan with a black border. I would have to do them over. I finally found it quicker to preview the slides before scanning and make the necessary corrections. All in all, I am very pleased with this scanner and with the results. I have yet to try it with photos or negatives, but I feel sure it will perform with equally good results.

Works As Advertised

By Doug1950 from Federal Way, WA. on 11/08/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Epson V600 Photo Scanner works as advertised. Quick set-up and copying photos with-in 30 minutes. I bought this for the multiple photo scan into individual files feature. I had this with an older All-In-One printer and found out that is a rarity in All-In-Ones. The only negative is the location of the Start Buttons on the front of the device. They are located directly under the area where you open the lid. I use the software on my computer to control the device, but many times, when opening the lid to clear the photos, it is too easy to touch the buttons and start another unwanted command. Other than that, this is an awesome device and so far I am impressed.

Poor Instructions

By PRK from Minnetonka on 10/21/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I read lots of reviews for this product before purchasing, so I thought it would be relatively easy to use. Actually, connecting it and pluggin it in were OK. The instructions for installation of program did not at all represent what happened on screen. It was just by luck that I figured out how to download the program. Then, the download from the disk didn't work very well. The program quit unexpectedly, so I had to start over. The instruction also said just put on a picture and scan. Wrong! The basic scan gave a very low-res photo, hardly useable for printing. Also the format in which it appeared on my computer was not useable in iPhoto. Again, just by chance, I figured out how to get the resolution higher and put it in a format that I could use in iPhoto. It took lots of steps, and I have been working on this for nearly 2 hours, and I still need to read tons more in the guide. Now, the guide has link upon link upon link, so it is nearly impossible to find an appropriate starting point. It's very confusing. Yikes! This scanner may end up working just wonderfully, but the "easy set up" is anything but easy and is not accurate enough to make this easy to use. I didn't want to recommend or not recommend, but this site required a choice. I said "no" because of the confusing instructions. One other frustration is that I was scanning a black and white photo. If I clicked that, it came out really burned. I then labeled it as "color," and it worked. Why??? Finally, in the package, a DVD called "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" was included, but there was not one word about its use on the instructions for setting it up. How would an inexperienced person understand if that disc was necessary for the basic use of this equipment.?

I love this scanner!

By MissDax from Portland Oregon on 10/19/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this photo scanner to scan some 35mm slides. I love the way it is easy to use. It has built in software to enhance the images while you scan the image and it has a photo editor to further enhance the images. A little patience is required because it scans 4 slides at a time. When you are working with sentimental images, it's worth the time spent. This scanner is also reasonably priced.

It does the job

By KDCinTX from Texas on 10/13/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have an Epson Workforce 2540 all-in-one and also the Perfection V600. There was very little difference in the scan quality between these two scanners. Color correction for accuracy is needed with both scanners. I was not impressed with Digital Ice because it created pixelation in some areas of the photos and took out some details as if they were dust. I do all of my editing in Photoshop Elements and don't need Digital Ice anyway. If you don't have a scanner, then the V600 is a good product at a good price. If you already have an Epson scanner, then there is no need to buy the V600 unless you need higher resolution and the ability to scan negatives and slides. Epson makes quality products and I have owned several Epson printers and scanners over the years.

Excellent scanner for the money

By Missileman from Undisclosed on 10/06/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I recently replaced my Epson Perfection 2400 Photo scanner with the V600. My 2400 has worked well for many years, but I wanted to update to more contemporary technology and add film scanning. My 2400 also had a dirty glass document table. The dirt was on the inside of the glass and I never bothered to figure out how to remove the glass and clean it. My new V600 worked perfectly right out of the box. That is, as long as the original material was of reasonable quality. I immediately jumped to 35 mm negatives - B&W and color. Scanning is fast (depending on resolution of course), and I like the bulk scan capability. For 48-bit color scans of 35 mm negatives at 3200 dpi, scan time is well under 2 minutes per frame. I always get rid of the unsharp mask feature when I'm scanning since I use Adobe Photoshop to prepare images for printing. The Auto Exposure feature works very well if the negative is reasonably well exposed, and produces 1-hr photo lab quality images or better. However, for poorly exposed negatives the image quality is often terrible, and that's where the poor manual adjustment capability shows. Yes, there are several standard manual adjustments - histogram (basically PS levels), tone (similar to PS curves), and a few color sliders. Unfortunately, these adjustments don't exactly mirror their more familiar Photoshop counterparts, and the relationship between input and output is not always intuitive. Quite a bit of trial and error is needed to understand the adjustments and their effects. Other scanner programs like VueScan and SilverFast provide similar capabilities, but are far more sophisticated yet intuitive and easy to use. The Epson user guide, as always, is completely useless for anyone beyond a virgin beginner. If not for the crude manual scanning features and complete lack of a functional user manual, I would rate this scanner 5 stars. If all you want to do is automatic scanning of photos and documents in the fully automatic mode, then this is definitely a 5-star product.

Quality scans

By FWA8 from Lafayette, IN on 09/19/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Since I wasn't able to get quality scans from friends or places to pay for scans, I decided to buy my own. I'm glad I chose the V600. I have scanned and printed from my 35mm negatives and the results were great. The prints from those scans were better that prints made directly from the negative by my photo lab. I do think that the plastic negative holder could be a little more substantial.

I am using this scanner ...

By denise from mobile, al on 09/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am using this scanner to scan years of family slides and photos. I'm very please with the scanner's performance so far. The only problem I've had is that at times the color correction feature seems to fail. I first noticed when a scan of a slide was corrected and looked great, but had some lint. When I rescanned it, it had a strong yellow cast as did many slides after it. Then, it started correcting the color again. The scanner has done this a few times now. I don't know why. Other than that, I'm just really happy to have a way to preserve my family's memories.

I have not pushed the limits of this scanner. But so far I am very favorably impressed with the hardware, not impressed with the provided software. I find the software painful to use, being forced to do more steps than I feel is necessary and/or having to do the same steps over and over again. Perhaps I just haven't studied the manual well enough (wherever it is).

I do love the results of this scanner. The only problem I have found and it's probably me, is that I cannot get it to go directly from my Corel program, I have to use its own path and then export it to Corel. I keep thinking there is a way, and I probably will eventually find it. The colors are amazing in the finished scan and the clarity is perfect. I also have an Epson printer and both my printer and the scanner have impressed me greatly. I do pressed flower art and people are always feeling the paper to see if the flowers are real.

I found this scanner too loud, my old HP was this loud but I have had it for 10 years. Bought a new Epson and it is a lot louder than I like. Thinking about returning it. Also, it didn't scan my slides to the level I expected. The control panel doesn't allow enough lattitude to suit me. Need to returning it. Not sure what to get instead, I thought this one was going to be it.

Reviewing the Epson v600 scaner

By Gisgam from Lexington, KY on 08/04/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This scanner and it's software does an execlent job with photo negatives that fit the included film holders. ie. 35mm and slides. It processes these as batch input 4 slides, 12 35mm negatives depending on how they are cut. The preview automatically frames these negatives to size. However curled negatives are hard to load and never flatten. Single cut 35mm negatives are impossible. I have some old negative of varing sizes. I was glad to be able to scan them. Since I scanned old negatives it would be nice to have more holders for these older formats like the 2 by 2, 110, and 126 and half frame 126. This is my fourth scanner and I am happy to finally have one that works so well with negatives.

Although I've had for over a month, just started using the scanner two weeks ago. I am VERY pleased with all the options and the ease of use! Great Scanner

By Pharmer Phred from Central Ohio on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I used this scanner to process a few hundred old B&W photos and a few hundred old color photos. Some of the color photos were very faded etc. I was surprised that most of them came out much better than I ever expected. Being able to process three or four pictures at a time was a big time saver too. I also scanned about a thousand old slides (both 35mm and 127). The 35mm always produced good results. The 127 slides were not good quality to begin and they didn't get any better by scanning. Some of the 127 images were truncated by the scanner. I had to manipulate things a bit with some of them (about 10%), but most scanned fine.

Love this thing

By Chuck from Boston, MA on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

I use both Linux and Windows and find the V600 works perfectly with software on both systems. It does so flawlessly. The quality of the scans is perfect. I've started scanning photographs and slides and appreciate the fact that I can remove scratches and dirt off the original in one simple step. It was well worth the money!

Less than expected

By Naan from Michigan on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Scanner was highly recommended. The images are fine, but I found it to be slow and not well suited for scanning lots of photos. Also, came with outdated photo shop software that is impossibly difficult to use, and since it is no longer being sold, there is no support to assist.

Terrific Scanner

By Photo Dog from Los Angeles, CA on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was searching for an affordable scanner to convert old faded photos to digital. The V600 not only met my needs, it exceeded it. The scanner and it's DIGITAL ICE software not only converted the pictures the scanned pictures but also brought them back to life. The digitized versions of the faded and colored pictures looked fully restored with vibrant colors and details. I would recommend this scanner to anyone who wants to revitalize their old photos.

Great product

I am heavy into genealogy and spend a lot of time scanning old photos, slides, and negatives. I have owned several Epson scanners and when the bulb on my 4870 began to go out, I looked for a replacement and decided on the V600. Set-up was easy and fast and I'm very impressed with the scanning speed. However, I did purchase Silverfast 8 as an enhanced software to better utilize the capabilities of the scanner.

I have enjoyed using the Epson photo scanner which has enabled me to store all of my negatives, slides and pictures to disc for preservation purposes. The only slight complaint is if you do not perfectly align the negatives or slides they will be cropped when scanning. Outside of that, a wonderful product!

Great Scanner

By OneTon from Dublin, CA on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

So far I have used this scanner just for one thing - scanning dozens of strips of 35mm B&W negatives. I am extremely pleased with the experience. The Epson scanning software was very easy to use and gave me no problems. My only small criticism with the scanner is with the 35mm filmstrip holder - the cover for the strip is a little too flimsy and doesn't seem to clip down solidly on the strips at all the clip points. This didn't seem to affect the results however which were always excellent. I would also like to be able to purchase a second filmstrip holder as an accessory so that I could always have a loaded holder ready to go to speed up the scanning process. Everything else was great!

Just Right

By Tookybird from New Hampshire on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner was purchased for both photos and to capture images of my artwork. The scanner is large enough and flexible for use with flat photos and drawings, books and some 3 dimensional objects without any problems. It's compact (22"x11"x4" outside dimensions), easy to use and gives me fine, dense images. Scanning area is 9"x12" and sends a nice crisp image to my computer. Only one drawback: directions for use are quite abbreviated. But it turns out to be pretty straightforward in use. I'm still happily discovering all it can do. Nice unit, and Just Right for me!

Incredible Scanner

By Dale G from Undisclosed on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It does it all and it does a great job. Two very minor improvements. It would be nice to be able to set a new "default" on where to save files (you currently have to change between each pdf). The second improvement needed is that if you do not close the cover slowly on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, the paper will sometimes float on the glass and not be aligned (square) when scanned. Otherwise, love it and already have recommended to several people.

Excellent scanner

By Kcaj Snilwar from Undisclosed on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I gave 5 stars, but should be 4 1/2. This is an excellent scanner with very good controls and color correction. Two minor things to improve. The negative carrier clip in is flimsy. I haven't had any problem with them and they continue to work well. My concern is they will wear out. Also in the professional mode, if you crop an image it will automatically correct the color. Too many times it is a few shades off from original. For reference I was a professional photographer and did my own color darkroom printing.

As a slide scanner lacks versatility

By WLC from Salt Lake City, UT on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been scanning slides in formats other than standard 35mm format from an older Yashika TLR (25.4mm x 25.4mm and 36mm x 36mm). In Auto Mode, this scanner does not seem to recognize a slide format other than the standard 35mm x 27mm so you have to resort to a manual and laborious procedure to scan a slide. In manual mode it does not allow you to adjust scan parameters whilst zoomed in on a slide. The user manual is so convoluted that you can't decipher a reasonable procedure to scan a slide (too many linked references as to what to do next - not step-wise) and alludes to icons (such as auto locate) that are nowhere to be found. This reviewer is a professional photogrammetrist and has supported the development of high-end scanners used by commercial and government agencies.

Easy to use right out of the box. Replaced my old hi-grade Epson scanner from 1999. It works FAST even at 600 dpi. The what-are-you-doing box is intuitive and easy. Only draw back is that a loose, small item is hard to position on the glass because of the removable hold down.

I purchased this scanner because I wished to digitize a large number of old photographs (prints and negatives) that had been taken over a span of 70+ years to record family and family business activities. The scanner has worked well, even with some larger format film negatives that the supplied frames won't hold. I've also scanned a large number of family documents, and I've been very pleased with all of the results.

Much better than expected

By Dr.Frank from Cincinnati, OH on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have some experience with scanners, this is not my first one. I have owned other flatbed scanners, I own a film scanner and I wanted this one just to give me the ability to scan 6x6 medium format film. I am very impressed with the quality of the scans, the scanner delivers the resolution that the camera was able to get. A full format 6x6 scan will give you a 50MP scan that will have a great resolution. The software is easy to use so I am now using this scanner as my main tool and only used the dedicated 35mm scanner for the huge resolution scans that I need once in a while. Overall a great product. I also like the digital ICE functionality, however be prepared that it will double your scan time.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo

By ocean33 from Santa Fe, NM on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The scanner does a very good job with slides, negatives and photos. Very sensitive. Set in one place where it will not be banged around and don't move it. Within a year and a half the scanner became out of focus on slides. Could not be repaired, so I bought a second one. Luckily I bought it with Visa, which gave me an extended one year warranty. 4 stars mostly because of the software. There are a couple of scanning software that are better, but not enough to justify buying for my purposes. The Epson Mac software has some bugs that are very annoying! I use the Professional mode and the settings are not saved. This means that for each scan I have to redo all the settings. Like I said, very annoying. If you'll be using this scanner and want to get the best out of it, you'll need better software.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

By Ed from North Georgia on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I appreciate my new photo scanner. I have done well with the automated processes. I have successfully scanned family photos from the 1880's and negatives from as early as 1919. I have not used the enhanced capabilities yet, but I am hopeful that I will be able to save photos and negatives that are more damaged and require better tool than the automated processes provide. I have used the software that was provided, as well as, "Silverfast 8" software that I have also purchased based on other reviews about this scanner. Sometimes the "organic" software works best and sometimes "Silverfast 8" works best depending on the object being scanned. Because of my success, I would recommend this photo scanner to those wanting to scan old photos and negatives using the automated features. After more experience, I expect to be able to give this product a 5 star rating base on the cost of the scanner and a good quality scan.

Price and Functionality

By JOtwell from nashville, tn on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this scanner because I have a large inventory of negatives and I still shoot film on my Rollei TLR. I was spending a fortune getting small scans done just so I could see what I have and work with it before deciding whether to get a larger scan done. I am very pleased with the scanner's performance for this particular purpose. I was very nervous after my first scan of a 120 neg because it looked VERY soft. I did some research on what settings other users were employing during 120 scans and once I made those changes I got a much better result. The scanner excels at scanning prints and does a great job on 35mm even on very large scans. The medium format scanning is the only thing it falls a little short on but it definitely does what I bought it to do- make 120 neg scans that I can use to make editing decisions and on the web.

Good News & Bad News

By Russo Loco from Ventura, Ca on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

While the results are overall better than my previous scanner, getting there is WAY less than half the fun. The film and slide holders are much more difficult to position properly, the on/off switch very inconveniently located more than halfway back on one side, and the software so counter-intuitive that I have not been able to preserve the scan settings from one group of four slides to the next four, even within the same session. I would recommend the V600 only to professionals who don't mind spending the extra effort needed to get the best results.

Slow scans, Faster scans and better images

By Dena from Phoenix, AZ on 07/31/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Would I buy this scanner again? Yes but turned out not to be what I expected. When I first used it the scans were very slow on 6x6 B&W negatives. Yes I was running 4800 dpi and making some 100mb files but 12 minutes a scan was a bit much. I calculated the data transfer rate at 1.1 meg bits a second which is far short of the 12 to 480 that the USB should be able to provide. My first attempt to resolve the problem was moving from an old G4 Power PC MAC to a newer Intel Mac that hasn't been put into service because of application issues. This changed improved scanning speeds by about 4 times bringing scans down to around 3 minutes. It appears the scanner moves much of the image processing into the PC. This isn't a bad thing because it allows upgrades to the PC to improve scanner operation. It also allows updates to Epson Scan to improve scanning without loading new software into the scanner. The bad part is Epson scan could be written better because it was using no where near 100% of the processor while it was doing the slow scans. Note I am a hardware programmer so I understand the flaw. Next issue is the fact this is a 3200x3200dpi scanner if you want clean scans. Above this number interpolation takes place to create the final image so you are not seeing what was scanned but are instead seeing what the software thinks the image looks like. The magic numbers that provide true images in dpi are 3200,1600,800,640,400,320,200,160,128,100. These are the numbers that divide evenly into both 6400 and 9600. They will also result in faster scans because they require no interpolation to produce the final image. Is this a problem? No because at 3200 I was able to see the grain in some of the B&W negatives. A scan of a 35mm film would still produce a 16x20 print which is pushing it for a 35mm negative. You should only use the higher scan settings for very special projects and if you are archiving, stick with the magic numbers. As for Digital Ice. I have not played with the feature much but the one word I have for it is WOW. I scanned a poorly stored color negative and it removed all but a few spots of damage. Don't use this feature unless you need it but I wouldn't want to buy a scanner without it. Note to Epson. Feel free to comment below this point if I got something wrong. I would love to be able to push the feature of this scanner more but as I see it, these are the limits.

A nice scanner, software could be improved

By Julio1fer from Montevideo, Uruguay on 07/22/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Have been using the scanner for 18 months with excellent results. My main use is for scanning film in 120 and 35mm, both color and B&W. The settings allow for good configuration tuning. My only complaint is that the software is a bit primitive. For instance, it does not allow auto thumbnail recognition in 35mm, except for standard full frame (24 x 36mm). I have to scan a lot of panoramic and half frame negative strips in 35mm; it is a pain to select manually each frame. This is quite surprising since in 120 all the sizes may be configured without any problem - and it works wonderfully. You may need to look for third-party software!

Impressive Scanner

By historybug45 from South Pasadena, CA on 07/06/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this scanner to convert a number of old family photos to .jpg files. I have had a good experience with Epson ink-jet printers, but had not tried any of their scanners before. I am using it with an iMac running Mountain Lion. I had no trouble setting it up and getting it running. It literally took about five minutes. It produces beautiful scans with rich colors easily in "Auto" mode. In "Home" mode there are additional features. One that I especially wanted to use is the digital ICE technology for cleaning up dust and scratches. Previously I have done this manually using photoshop, and that is tedious. Digital ICE does it all automatically at the cost of a somewhat longer scan time and produces very nice results. I feel that I have barely scratched the surface regarding what this scanner can do, but would highly recommend it to anyone needing a high-performance photo scanner.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I needed to scan and copy over 2000 slides. Was torn between the Epson V600 and another competing brand. Decided on the Epson and I am generally very pleased. Easy to set up and to manage. Made the mistake with the first few hundred slides to use color correction, which makes the copies slightly too purple. So, do not use color correction. Without it, the color quality is excellent. Was disappointed with the dust removal function. Still had to manually remove the dust on many slides. Because this became time consuming, I also purchased the competing product. In this scanner the dust removal was just as poor and the copies were too purple. I continued to use the Epson and have finally completed the project. Now onto copying hundreds of photographs.

This is a great machine for the price, I've been able to scan my fathers old slides and share them with the family. Also found a picture of my mother taken in 1912 and was able to repair the defects. It's been worth its weight in gold!

Epson V600 Photo Scanner Terrific

By sabamel from Brooklyn , New York on 06/04/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was very nervous prior to using since I had at one time another cheaper scanner which I was very dissatisfied with. Well I put in my slide and scanned it. I then decided to print it for a larger view. Well all my anxieties were calmed down when I had this fantastic looking print. The scans look terrific. It is a great unit.

Typical great Epson product

By Lance from NC on 06/02/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Fabulous scanner ! I scan about 300 images a week and have been able to tweek the software to where they scan in almost perfectly. I have not used the 35mm portion yet but expect the same results. Machine has performed flawlessly. I would like to see the "saved" sequence numbers to go to 4 or even 5 digits so I don't get repeating image numbers after 999 scans. I would love one just like it in a 12x15 inch format that is affordable ! It is such a fine machine I expect Epson to quit making it soon.

The V600 does a good job on color slides, which was the reason I purchased it, could be a little faster. Nice design and software is user friendly. All in all well worth the investment.

perfectionV600Photo (LED)

By jbl from NW Oklahoma on 05/24/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great scanner, LED technology, if your professional demands aren't too demanding, this scanner is perfect. The LED technology is great, no warm up time, just turn it on and it is ready to go. Draw back, it can only do one strip of 120 at a time, and it won't do 4x5 or larger. The price is great, the scanner is more valuable than the price suggest, worth every dollar.

Best purchase ever!

By amj991 from Troy, NY on 04/29/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

First, I bought this quite a while ago... and it's still not obsolete! There might be technical cons for the pros, but as a non-techie I found it to be incredibly easy to install and use. I am making a project of scanning all my older photos/family pics. I plan to copy them to flash drives for my kids. (Fortunately I can scan however many I can fit within the frame. I've been sticking with 4 (3x5).) Also, my dad died 25 years ago when my daughter was 4 years old. This was of course before digital cameras so I don't have very many pictures. I put a negative I had of a picture of him with my daughter on the scanner. Not only did I get a beautiful picture of them together, but there was another pic on the strip that I didn't realize was there. I would have paid ANY price for these two pictures. Instead all I had to buy was this very reasonably priced scanner. I would recommend this scanner to anyone.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

By professor from Greenwood, MS 38930 on 04/14/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

For years I have used your Epson perfection 2450 Photo Scanner. It is a superior product (as well as your Epson Stylus Photo 870 Printer). I just bought your V600 Photo Scanner. It makes terrible copies! The definition is terrible! It is very inefficient to work through your menus to increase the dpi and make better copies. Your software is worse than the Smart Panel offered with your old scanner. You have gone backwords!!! I want my money back! I will return your new scanner. I will spend my money getting my old scanner fixed!!!

v600 Photo scanner

By RonM from Nicholasville, KY on 04/12/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great scanner bad film holders. The software is OK but I have not tried anything very complicated with it. The film holders are nearly useless. The 35mm are hard to load if there is any curl in the negatives. Sanning a single 35mm photo negative is impossible. It would be great if they added something to match the 35mm sprocket holes. The other negative holder fits only one negative dimension. It is for 2 1/4 wide negatives. It just barely holds the negative. There is nothing for 126 film negatives. It would be nice if they would provide a holder with a variable width function. I have not tried the slide functions. I purchased the scanner to print some old photos that have been lost. I will be only able to capture 25% of them. I would return the scanner if it were possible

V600 easy start . . . acceptable learning curve?

By Kiwi Jim from Central Valley, California on 04/04/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Dead simple to get out of the box, installed, up and running. First scans look great! Very simple copier function. Been told instructions are complicated. I can see there will be a learning curve, but it doesn't look too bad. =LOVE= the online user's guide and the ability to easily print out the pages you look up.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner is wonderful!

By Smith will suffice from Durham, NC on 03/28/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this photo scanner because I have SO many old photos and slides from when I owned film cameras, and I wanted to store these images on a flash drive for easy access and in case anything ever happened to my home! This scanner is very easy to use, has great features (I especially like the dust removal option), and works perfectly for my intended purpose. If you're looking for a great product to scan those old photos and slides (and, who doesn't want to keep those special memories?!) - this is your scanner!

Epsom Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

By LonoPC from Hawaii on 03/28/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The scanner was working good until I discovered a white speck of dust on the inside of the glass. So every photo that I scanned has a dust mark in the scan. The instruction says not to open the inside so I have to live with the with dust speck on my scanned photos. I am not very happy about that but what do I do. Will Epsom exchange it for a new one?

We love it have scanned over 5000 photographs in the few months that we have had the scanner. It has always worked as it should and with great results. When using "Digital Ice" on old slides it is like a miracle. Almost all dust and marks are removed. It also scans office papers very well. Thank You Epson

Epson V600 Scanner

By Anonymous from Cumming, GA on 03/27/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

To date I have only scanned a few pictures and documents. The scanner works as advertised, It is fast also. The controls are easy to read/use. My only regret is that the scanning bed is not large enough to scan legal-size documents but I knew this when I bought it. The included software has been easy to use and seems fairly complete. Overall the unit seems well designed and constructed.

35mm slides

By Duke of Earl from Brookings Oregon on 03/26/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I think the V600 is a very good scanner for slides. It scans them fairly fast even though it only will do 4 at a time. After you have a system down pat your speed picks up as how many can be scanned. Easy to bring back into standard condition. I have 3,000 slide taken in 1956 to 1980 and I was happy to find a reasonably price scanner that I can used for other projects. I also have a Epson Styllus Photo R220 that goes well with the V600. Thank You Epson!
