Stylus Photo R1900 is wonderful

By Buffalowm from Scotts Valley, CA on 08/21/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been using this product for over a year but just got it registered. I was looking for a mid-range printer that still used pigment ink for archival purposes and did not cost an arm and a leg. I found it in the R1900. I upgraded from the R1800 because this printer can print on canvas too, although I have not printed on canvas yet. I am a fine artist and I have been able to make the most exquisite archival prints up to 13" on one side and up to 19" on the other. I sell them at shows and in art stores. This way I have complete control over the quality. With Epson's archival paper and this printer, you have a nice business asset.

Love - Hate

By M from Edgewater, Md. on 08/09/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hate that the ink is so expensive-all 8 of them. And they need replaced so often. If I haven't used this printer for a while it can take an hour or more to get it working again. Love the pictures it produces. Print quality is fantastic.

Bottom Line:

I've had the 1900 for quiet awhile and it has never failed me. The pictures it prints are a thing of beauty and as of yet I have no intention of replacing it unless it breaks down and I'm forced to get the 2000.

R1900

By bluewhale from Naples, Florida on 08/02/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The printer is great when working right. It will use a lot of ink when printing on canvas. I do not use the printer has a blocked port and the head cleaner can not correct this problem Tech support told me to try outside service or to buy another printer. I would not recommend this printer if you are on a budget. I just use a printing service to fill my needs.

Always replacing the ink

By Citykitty from Brooklyn, NY on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Though this printer does a good job, it seems the ink runs out after every two prints. First the magenta, which you replace, and then before you can print another, it says your cyan ran out. I've maybe used the printer 4 times and now I just give up. If I could do it over, I would have just kept my old Stylus 1280. Not recommended.

By Pete from Undisclosed on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

I have had this printer for several years and it always prints flawlessly in color or B&W. The cartridges are small however that is not a bad thin altogether if you print as a hobbyist, my walls are full so I use it less frequently now.

Stylus Photo R1900

By tricia from Reno, Nevada on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The quality of the printing is great. I especially like the ability to do large format prints. I have sold many prints of my artwork. The color is very accurate and the detail is perfect. Now, the bad news...I find the printer to be tempermental. It won't accept non Epson paper which is a problem because I print cards and Epson does not have greeting card style paper. I have to insert the paper into the back "roll" access and it often does not get the picture centered on the paper. This causes me time and frustration.

Threw R1900 in Dumpster

By Ex-R1900 User from Undisclosed on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Never used glossy paper but always ran out of gloss optimizer, no user level service documentation available, error messages popped up that required having expensive "certified" Epson service, finally stopped working after Apple Epson Printer Software update 2.14 so I threw it in dumpster.

Ongoing ink issues

By MomOBX from North Carolina on 08/01/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The ink is very expensive and not available at any local store. I seem to have a lot of clogging issues and need to clean the print heads often. I do not use the printer often enough and I think this is part of the problem even though when I first bought it I was uses it quite a bit. The reason I don't use it often enough is that the cartridges need to be replaced almost every time I go to use it - once a month or so. I even had it on a timer so it would cycle on and off to keep everything fresh. The print color is great that is why it got 3 stars instead of 2.

I have had this printer for a very long time and can not believe it still works! Epson is great about sending up dates etc. I use it with PHSP CS6 and my Canon 6D. I would like to up grade but for now it is working just fine. I would like to see a comparable model that does NOT include the CD print feature ( no one uses that any more ).

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After battling with clogged nozzles and spending hundreds of dollars on ink I finally replaced with the Epson 1430 and am much happier. In regards to the R1900 even with regular printing, the nozzles became clogged and by going through the cleaning process I ran through cartridges at an unbelievable rate. I would NEVER recommend this printer.

Love it

By Jan from South Windsor, CT on 06/11/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this printer. The only problem I have had is when I got it I had windows XP. Then I got a new computer that had windows 7. I updated the drivers just like you are supposed to. The pictures on my computer are still beautiful. Anything I create has beautiful pictures, but when I print them the colors are not right since the update of drivers. Maroon is purple and most everything I do for the kids sports has that color. So needless to say I have not used it a lot since the Windows 7 computer.

Impossible to calibrate colors on an Imac. Tried all different drivers to no avail. Works ok on a pc. Printheads are already clogged. Impossible to unclog. I have had a lot of epson products and always been very happy. This one not so much. Had the same problem with R1800. Thought upgrading to r1900 would solve the problem. But pretty much the same thing.

Great Prints!

By RSC-I812 from Raleigh, NC on 06/02/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very pleased with the results from this printer. I will say that everything in my system is profiled with calibration tools. So, what i see is what I get. My only complaint is that it is an ink HOG. Ink carts are too small and very pricey. Don't try to use non OEM ink. It will ruin your print head, and the cost for repairs will outway the price for the cheap ink. But the printing results and Epson printer interface are the best on the market.

Great when it prints!

By JMiles from Indianapolis on 04/20/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

If you can get paper to go through this R1000 you'll be lucky. When you do, it prints really fast, and the ink replacements are fast, and it can print out a lot of ink on every page, with excellent coverage! Only jams every couple of days, and prints really large prints, so you can get really good deals on the ink from the Epson factory store, and they send you helpful coupons every day by email. And the printer dialog box they give you easy to click links on, so that it's always just 1 step away from clicking on and going there to buy the great inks, that the printer uses at high speeds.

R1900 Review

By Larryc90 from Green Cove Springs, FL on 03/27/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Epson's R1900 is a printer with excellent print quality. I have greatly enjoyed using it for making color prints. It does an excellent job with prints from 3 x 5" up to 13 x 19", both paper and canvas. The only drawbacks are (1) it seems to use a lot of ink and (2) the print CD feature is easily broken. Print speed is satisfactory.

Although this printer produces excellent prints, I have had difficulty since the day I bought it finding ink in the area stores. I've always had to order it online and wait until it arrives. I've had continual problems with it compatibility with my Mac using Snow Leopard. Every time I have an update I must go in and fix the permissions and reload the printer. I will say however, the online support people have always been willing to help.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We purchased this Epson R1900 to allow us to print photos up to 13X19 at home for our hobby photography business. This printer is the easiest and most efficient printer we have ever used. It is very efficient on the ink and never has had a malfunction in operation. We have changed our office around a little and now have an Epson R2000 to utilize its "wireless" functionality. We would have never thought to buy the R2000 if it were not for the flawless performance of the R1900.

Great Larger Printing at Home

By khoesche from Palm Harbor, Florids on 03/25/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I used to have an older Epson 13 x19 format photo printer, which was so good that it convinced me to upgrade to the R1900 when I looked for a bit more speed in my printer! I create photo mosaics and find this printer indispensable. The R1900 does an excellent job, partly because of the greater spread of ink colors that it uses. This printer also has a clear over-coat layer which protects your glossy prints from the environment and fading!

I bought this printer 2 years ago. I chose it because it sounded like it could handle heavy printing requirements. The paper stopped feeding. I tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. I took it to a printer repair place and they said the feeder was worn out and had to be replaced. AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS. I print a lot of cards for people at church. Probably 20-30 cards a week. IT WAS WORN OUT AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS. I can only hope the replacement part is better than the original.

Greetings. I have owned this printer for a few years now and it has never printed anything bad. The prints have been always as I seen the picture on the monitor. I have even made prints for friends because the prints are so clean and clear. I read articles in photo magazines of readers that want to replace the printers because they are a few years old. Mine? I will use it until it dies and/or if there is ink and paper for the printer. Thanks Marco

By shutterbug47 from Hesperia, MI on 03/25/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The printer functions flawlessly. I strive for the highest quality in my photographic work and I can gratefully rate this as the best printer I have ever used in photographic printing. I especially find that the two different black inks enable much finer black and white prints than are available from other printers. Along the same lines, the added colors render the full range of colors in the prints far better than the usual tri-color inks.

Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Ink Jet Printer

By BILL from Port St Lucie, FL on 03/25/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use this printer primarily for printing labels on my CD's and DVD's and feel it does an excellent job. My only negative is that the ink required for this printer must be ordered from the main EPSON site as it is VERY rare for a retailer to carry ink for the R1900. I usually purchase as many ink cartridges as a store may have in stock when it can be found. If any one cartridge runs out of ink, it renders the printer inoperable until the empty cartridge is replaced. I once had to drive 160 miles round trip to purchase ink for an important school project where I needed to have 50 copies of a DVD for the children the following day.

Awful, Awful,Awful!!

By Frustrated from Vancouver on 06/12/2012

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I used to be a big fan of Epson printers until I bought this junker! When it works, it does print beautiful prints, but it rarely works! When the ink cartridges run out, the printer does not want to recognize that a new cartridge has been installed. I have had to reinstall cartridges up to a dozen times or more before this printer will finally recognize the cartridge. I have even had to replace all 8 cartridges just so this printer will recognize the one that needed replacing!! Loading paper is a complete hassle as well. Last night I kept getting the dialogue box telling me that I am using the "wrong source" paper and that I should remove the incorrect paper and replace with correct paper. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER.

Great prints, but finicky.

By Photo54 from Wenatchee, WA on 03/30/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The R1900 is my third Epson printer. It produces professional quality prints ,but is a little finicky about the media used and I had to download drivers so it will work with Mac O.S. Snow Leopard. The only real complaint I have is that the pigment inks tend to plug in the head if not used every couple of days, and the fact that when replacing cartridges it primes the whole system. Not just the cartridges changed.

First I tried loading the program from the CD I had, and it would work on basic glossy paper. It won't accept the Fine Art paper settings - so I don't think it's printing the best. I've tried other options, like downloading Os 6 and letting apple look for software. After I re-registered it did download a program, but it's not right yet? Is there a Mac 7 (lion program for the R1900 that I can download?

R1900

By Randy from Cleveland, Ohio on 03/05/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been using the R1900 for several months. I am extremely pleased with the performance. The color rendition and depth of the photographs which I have printed are excellent. I would prefer to have some additional options for paper size. Otherwise, the software is very convenient. I note that when a new ink tank in inserted, the printer appears to prime all the tanks, wasting a small amount of ink in the tanks which were not replaced.

I am a pro photographer .I have printed around 30 pages A4 and the inks run out. I have bought a new pack of inks and they finished very quickly again ! (The quality of the print is excellent ) The numbers you give for cartridge/page are very misleading I regret for buying this printer .I rarely use it now. I expected much more from Epson

Sturdy Workhorse

By Florida Foto Fan from Orlando, Florida on 01/31/2012

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Although just a hobbiest, I really give the R1900 a workout. My sons wedding made 3 4X6, 3 8x10, and 1 11x14 album, all with over 300 pictures, and a few 13x19s in addition. Then there were roughly 100 printable CD's. The work went quickly and and the results were superb. Have also done a few friends weddings and numerous Hawiian landscapes. The Hawiian pics are now on the walls of a number of friends homes. The ability to make larger prints is why I bought the unit. The 11x14's are my standard and really set pictures apart from the rest. Most stores don't stock the right ink, so I buy mine either from Epson or my camera store and have never waited more than 2-3 days. Then I usually keep between 5 and eight cartrides of each color so there is never a problem. The color is great, the glossing is a real plus and the unit just keeps on running fast and reliably even with the volumes and varieties of media I run through it. Even the CD print function time is reasonable and a big hit with customers and friends. Great product.

When it worked, it made ...

By joe from PA on 12/25/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

When it worked, it made great prints but first who's idea was it at epson to make the printer stop printing if 1 of the 8 cartridges are empty? This is a true photo only printer. If you want to print everyday text or internet pages look elsewhere. The head cleaning feature sucks the cartridges dry. I tried 2 aftermarket refill kits but that only made things worse. Now i get either clogged nozzles, air trapped or bleeding. All to avoid the inflated prices of cartridges. I wish I never bought this printer.

Print quality is excellent

By JohnG from San Francisco on 12/19/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer prints excellent quality prints. I think the print speed is pretty fast also. At lest it is twice as fast as my old Epson 960. I think the print quality is as good as any photo lab prints. The ink does run out fast. I had to have my printer replaced do to clogged print heads. My thinking is it may have to do with not printing enough therefor the ink dries out. My 960 I left in storage for two years with the ink still in the printer. And when I started using it again it worked. I did have to clean the print head every once in a while. The 960 used dye based ink and the r1900 uses Pigment based ink. Maybe this is the reason. Overall I am happy with the printer but Epson has to figure out this head clogging problem. I would give it a high rating if they could fix the head clogging problem.

R1900

By Photographs Of You from Knoxville TN on 12/16/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is obviously more printer than I need. I have used it for over a year now... Still have not got the knack of certain things I need to do with it...Perhaps in my down time I can learn them...However, this thing rocks.... great colors of what I see on the screen to what I see on the print. I do have my screens calibrated via Spyder2. It does love ink... like all printers.

Epson Stylus R1900

By Doc from Corpus Christ, TX on 10/28/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Makes great prints. A little slow. Biggest problem is that you have to feed one page at a time for watercolor paper and others, hold the paper until the printer decides to yank it out of your hand and then you hope it prints. I waste a lot of time this way. Need to be able to put the paper in, hit print and see your product. Everyday printing no problem. Hope they fix this issue.

Excellent Printer

This Printer has so far surpassed my wishes. I had looked at this particular printer for several years but because of its expense had put it on the back burner for awhile. I thought I would be using it for scrapbooking alone. Well, to my surprise I use it for everything and love it. The print is clear and clean and being able to print banners and 12" by 12" is great. I just wish I had one when my chidren were small. School projects would have been a breeze!

Great print results. My only problem is ink usage. It runs out fast. Be prepared to keep a lot of ink on hand. The ink carts are way too small for a printer of this paper size. Other than that, print quality is pleasantly surprising.

Epson 1900

By SKSmith from Undisclosed on 08/31/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was hesitant to write a review when I first purchased the Epson R1900 Printer as I wanted to run it for awhile ... just to see. So far, I haven't been all that excited about this printer and more than likely wouldn't recommend it. True .. I do get nice prints and the overall performance is good ... not excellent ... just good. The issues I have are as follows: First, it was advertised to have corrected the problem with the Print Heads plugging up frequently. This was evident in my R1800 which is why I upgraded to the R1900 in the first place. Today, I question that claim (and my decision) since within a month of purchase I was already cleaning the heads and have done so repeatedly since. Secondly ~ It runs through Ink way to fast. Especially the gloss optimizer. If I were printing on a lot of glossy paper I would grin and bear it. However, I've been printing on Epson Matt Paper with the Gloss Optimizer turned off and yet I still need to replace the cartridge.

Good printer, wish I could get rid of banding

By Quint Stiff from Santa Rosa, CA on 08/14/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am fairly happy with the R1900, and I have to admit I have bought and installed a continuous ink system, voiding my warranty, but giving me great quality ink (Cave paint) so I don't have to pay the ridiculous prices for the Epson cartridges. However, I get banding on some dark areas of my photo prints. I don't think it is the ink system, so that is something I have to live with on the R1900.

Very disappointed

By MelissaB from Rochester, NY on 06/20/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I rarely write reviews, but my frustration with this product is palpable. I loved my Epson Stylus Photo 1280 for years and eventually wore it out, replacing it with this. What a let down. After exchanging the first model I received because of problems, I continue now to have chronic print quality issues due to print head problems. This thing also eats ink like a monster. Most of the positive reviews here were probably written by people who'd barely used the thing. Think twice! Or thrice!

The prints that I am able to get from this printer are incredible! They have been award winners. The colors are vibrant, rich and true, and the printer is easy to operate. An 11x14 high quality print prints in very little time. I have even had great success printing on quality watercolor paper and producing beautiful note cards. When I want to save on ink, I print draft copies of documents. I recommend this printer to anyone needing to print quality prints up to 13 inches wide.

Set Up Epson With Windows 7

By CandidJo from Cincinnati on 05/15/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Epson Website is useful, and the installation helped me to find it easily since my computer is instantly connected to the internet. Therefore the link provided by Epson on disk (driver) worked immediately. When installing the printer, try to make sure you have your internet on so links may work. Also, your anti virus programs will need to be turned off, and most will offer a 10 or 15 minute option so that they will turn back on in case you forget.

This R1900 printer has worked very well for me for a variety of photos, many of which are on display on the walls of our local hospital My only com[plaintg is that the volume of the ink cartridges is so small, I need to change them frequently if I am making many prints. I haave just purchased the R4900 model which has much larger cartridges plusmany advanced features.

Upgraded Printer...

By ElectriKolor from Verona WI on 04/18/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I know I'm *supposed* to ignore the promotional details, but the rebate program that was in place was a great incentive to re-invest in a newer Epson printer for my digital photography pieces. My rambling thoughts noted below... After using a 2000P, the upgrade was seamless, with one major exception: now I really can use a broad variety of papers with exceptional results. Yes, I still will use Epson papers, too, but being able to print on metallic media with excellent results after tweaking the color profile is awesome. I have seen no issues working with Windows XP. The ability to replace an individual cartridge is a great benefit for me. On the other hand, since I rarely print glossy prints, having to turn off that feature is a minor annoyance, as is having to select the higher quality, slower print as the default. Updating the default selections in the software would be a great benefit. I can't imaging using this printer for low-res prints... I also like that I can send something to print...and the sound of printing is so low, I sometimes have to check that I've sent the print job off to start. Overall, I've been pleased with the quality of the prints. I haven't put it to a high-volume test yet, but hope to this summer.

Disappointed with ink usage

By Anonymous from Boston, MA on 03/22/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The second time I used the printer it stopped and indicated that the print carriage was jammed, prompting me to cancel the print job, shut the unit off, and restart it. After finding nothing obstructing the carriage and going through this procedure four times, with the printer cleaning its print heads every time, it finally began to print, but the ink cartridges were indicated as all but empty. The specs indicated an average of 915 pages per cartridge but I've printed about 30 pages and apparently need to replace them already. And I haven't even printed a photo yet...

Good printer most of the time

By VC Geezer from Virginia City, NV on 01/23/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have had this printer for over a year and it has excellent photo print quality. To summarize it has good print quality, prints on a wide range of media. Another plus is that it will do printable CD/DVDs (which very few others are able to do). However, the ink cartridges are expensive and do not last long. The other issue I have is that one or more print head colors tend to clog about every 3-4 months, requiring one to run the head cleaning routine. Recently, I had one color completely clogged up and even after many attempts to clean it using the cleaning routine and it still is clogged, while using up enormous amounts of ink on the other cartridges. I was advised by Epson to bring it in for servicing (not cheap and not nearby). I see that this printer would likely work well if used every day, which I do not, preventing the heads from drying/clogging. They also advised that it should be off when not in use. For me, this whole situation is a problem: expensive & short-lived cartirdges, chronic clogging, remembering to turn it off. Based upon this experience, I can see why other manufacturers put the print head in the cartridge, allowing one to totally replace the print head with each cartridge replacement.

Buyer Beware

By mt from New York, NY on 01/21/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The printer, when it works is beautiful. However, I have spent more time checking, cleaning heads and generally trying to get it to work that I ever have printing with it. Beyond the days of lost time, I have spend a boat-load of money on printer cartridges because they constantly get clogged. As much as I've enjoyed Epson printers over the last 12 years, this one is surely a lemon. BTW, if you live in NYC and have a problem you have to somehow get out to central Long Island or travel to Hackensack to get it repaired. Unbelievable.

Great printer

By JGroc from Honeoye Falls, NY on 01/10/2011

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have always wanted a large format printer to being my photography to the next level. Recently, Epson offered a $300 rebate on the R1900 printer. This was my Christmas present!!! I have owned 5 Epson printers in the past. I am a huge fan of their ink and paper technology. Needless to say, the R1900 is the best I have owned to date. I have done roughly a dozen prints - all large format. The colors and detail are incredible. Good news/bad news though - a photo that looks great at 5x7 or 8x10 "might" be a problem at a larger size like 11x19. I have a few photos that look spectacular at that size. I have one, that needs some serious sharpening... I love the pigment inks and the new ability to try different papers such as the linen and canvas stock. I am 100% happy with this purchase and look forward to expanding my hobby!

Fair Value, not good or excellent

By Angus MacDuff from Thumb of Michigan on 01/02/2011

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Expect to replace inks on a daily basis even if you are printing no more than 10 8x10's. Quality of the print is good, but a very poor cost to quality ratio. I have already replaced inks three times on my first 25 prints. Overall, disappointing on the cost ratio, but good print quality in the end. Outsourcing to a quality shop is the best plan for photographers.

Got the printer for Christmas and it is more than I imagined. I am printing from Lightroom 3 and the colors and clarity are magnificent. I am an amateur so I don't think I will be producing mass numbers of prints, but what I have printed so far far surpass the quality of the prints I get from my local camera shop. I am printing on Epson Premium Ultra Luster Photo paper. I hope I don't run into the issues I have read on other sites about the ink cartridges not being compatible.

Great Printer

By Fay from WV on 12/28/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

While running off 13x19 fine art prints, I used my regular 140# cold press watercolor paper (which doesn't have an ICC printer profile) and the results were disappointing. However, after a support technician suggested that I use the Epson watercolor paper designed for their wide format printers, I purchased 13x19 Epson cold press textured watercolor paper and the results were amazing: very sharp as well as eye-popping color. You can download the ICC code from an Epson site that features this paper. The Epson ultra premium presentation matte paper is great for smaller prints (8.5 x 11 and smaller). I like the texture and thickness of the cold press watercolor paper, natural or bright white, the best. It's a little tricky once in a while loading the paper, but so far I am glad I purchased this printer, which is only about three weeks old as of this writing.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Upgraded from my R1800. Good prints as usual with Epson. I have a photo restoration business and sell prints from the machine. However, the R1900 goes thru more cleaning cycles than the R1800--NOTICEABLY more. It just grates on me that THEY decide it needs a cleaning cycle, not ME. Course, I probably wouldn't dump as much ink down the drain either.

I've had an Epson printer for about 15 years. It's finally starting to go. It still prints documents but not photos well. I did some research on different printers, even other brands, but I kept coming bak to Epson. I am very impressed with my new R1900 printer so far. I didn't realize prints could look so go. I can't wait to print on canvas!!!!

Epson r1900

By Jeff from chefornak alaska on 12/16/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer produces excellent quality. I have no complaints at all. Buyers should know however, that ink usage is very high. I have printed approximately 24 8x10s, using gloss optimizer and Epson Vivid, at high quality. I have completely emptied one gloss optimizer, 90% empty on Photo Black, and 50% empty on all other colors.

Great buy

By BDW888 from Comox, BC Canada on 12/15/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have never had a dedicated photo printer until I purchased the R1900. It was easy to set up right out of the box. Though I did not realize the physical size was a larger than I expected give yourself some extra room to set it up. I use a Mac and the software was no problem to get results as advertised. I did have to change some settings to get the results as I liked. I tried 5 x 7, 8 x 10 and 81/2 x 11 prints all came out with stunning results. The paper feed works great with the proper photo paper of course. In my opinion a superior photo printer for the semi pro to the home user. The rebate helps as well.

EPSON R1900 Rocks!

By Helene1 from New Jersey on 12/14/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this photo printer to replace an all-in-one low cost printer after the print head died. Since I was becoming more serious about my photography, I was looking for a dedicated photo printer and this fit right in. It was the right size, the right price, and I had heard nothing but good things about EPSON. So far I have printed about a dozn. 5x7s and a dozn. 8x10s and, after doing a little research about color management and image resizing, I have not been disappointed with anything that this printer has produced. For the first time, I even had someone offer to buy some of my prints. A family member could not believe I had printed some shots because the gloss was lab-quality. The printer was a snap to set up, download was flawless, and there have been no problems with paper handling. Colors are clear and match my monitor. I used to run test prints in order to avoid wasting photo paper - that is a thing of the past. I've owned several photo printers and the Epson R1900 is by far the best. It's a beautiful thing when you can sit at home and produce lab-quality prints.

My reflections on my new Epson Stylus Photo R1900

By Delschna from Minneapolis, MN on 12/08/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have only received the shipment of my new printer 10 days ago or so. From the perspective of appearance it is impressive. It's a beautiful hunk of machine. I have not had the opportunity to work with it as much as I will in time. I think I will like it. My only concern is with focus in copying/printing photos. I'm not certain that the focus is as sharp as it needs to be for photos. If someone at Epson can lead me to sharpen that, then the Photo R1900 will receive a revised rating of 5 stars. I'll wait and see if Epson responds.

Great Photo Printer

By jeh from San Diego on 12/08/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer produces great color and black & white photos. With the rebate it was an awesome price. The wide format and choice of paper types gives it the flexibility I needed for my projects. I'm no longer getting off-color photos. I really like the fact that the ink cartridges can be replaced individually and not all have to be replaced at once.

Good printer

By Erik from Wilmington, Delaware on 12/06/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Epson Photo R1900 printer was easy to set up and already the first prints were of good quality. The R1900 is not built as well as the lettersize Epson Photo R800. Some of the cartridges did not fit smoothly. Having said that, the print quality is very good and adequate for photographic exhibitions and commercial work. The print size of the R1900 is larger than the lettersize print of the R800. Therefore, I expected the cartridges of the R1900 to be larger. Surprisingly, the R1900 has smaller cartridges than the R800!

A Great Printer

By paper doll from North Carolina on 12/06/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have used Epson printers for the last 10 years and am very pleased with the print quality. I print pressed flower designs and people are always touching the flowers because they look like they are on top of the paper, not printed on. The speed of the R1900 is the fastest one I've had yet and there is no loss of quality. I love that I can intensify my color results easily and everything about the printer is simple to use.

My recent purchase of an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Ink Jet printer is the third one I have bought. Quality of photographs with Epson paper is excellent. I have had other printers and, for the money, this is the best. I have two in operation. Inks and paper are easy to get via web site ordering and quick delivery to my in-home office. I print selected images of agricultural, veterinary, and athletic activities.

great pics - clogs

By Wardo from Aspen, CO on 11/30/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Be aware that if you do not use the printer for a couple of weeks or longer the print heads will clog. The output is 5 Stars. I went through an entire set of ink cartridges trying to get the heads cleaned. It just kept getting worse not better. Epson stands behind their products. I have to send it to a service center to be unclogged. It is really the only negative aspect of the printer. Print often.

great replacement

By Tampa JEM from Tampa, Fl on 11/30/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've used Epson printers for 15 years. The R1900 is a replacement for my worn-out R1800. I received the new printer today, plugged it in, downloaded the driver and went to work printing photos, documents and checks (Quickens). It was a smooth, flawless transition. It's too soon to tell how well the R1900 will perform, but if its predecessors are any indication, it should do just great.

Two words - GREAT PRINTER.

By Don P. from Mount Morris, IL on 11/17/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have owned an Epson printer in the past but went to other brands when I wore the Epson printer out. It gave me great service but for some reason I just purchased a different printer. I have been reading reviews on the R1900 and decided to go back to Epson for my semi-professional photo printing needs. I was not disappointed. Epson has a fine product with the R1900 and the photos it prints out prove it. I have only had this printer for a couple of days but I have printed out 10 different 9 X 13 inch prints and I am impressed with the results. There isn't anything I can say to you to make you want to own one of these printers. You have to see the results for yourself and you will be sold. Setting it up out of the box was just as easy as printing photos with the printer. In baseball terms, this printer is a "Grand Slam".

I have only had the R1900 28 hours. I am extremely pleased with the print quality of the new inks. I have owned and operated Epson'e R1800 for 5 years. I was very happy with the result it produced. So far the R1900 produces brighter prints faster than the R1800. I am pleased to own this printer. Allow me more time and I'll be able to give a more comprehensive evaluation. Respectfully, Joe

Long on performance short on information

By Fixento from PA on 11/01/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My only complaint is the information that came with the product on how to set up your photo software profile to work with the printer has one illustration and that refers to only CS3 screens only. The text instructions are confusing because they incorporated four profiles into one set of instructions. The writters must have experice writting tax codes, it's that confusing. On line help is as weak at the printer documentation. This is the reason I gave 3 stars instead of four and since only God is perfect so you can eliminate ever reaching five.

This printer was ordered to replace a 5 year old Epson printer used by our Graphics Designer who prints most of our promotional pieces, including business cards. It was chosen because the previous machine was a real work horse and because we expected an easy installation. The install was quick and easy and the printer seems to produce a high quality product. We will know more after the machine has been used, but for now are very satisfied with the purchase.

Printed out my first 11x14 print and was amazed with the quality of the finished product. In comparing it to a lab print it is far superior to what their final product was. The colors pop and the warmth of the skin tones was eye catching. I'm looking forward to many more happy results. I'm new with this printers but so far so good, no the best! Annoying and temperamental printer

By dmac686 from NYC on 08/29/2010

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I miss my 1280!!!!!!!!!!! It was the easiest to use and care for. I bought this because I wanted to make archival pigment prints. It seems that every time I try to print I need to replace the gloss optimizer (I only print matte) go figure... The hand feed is annoyingly temperamental sometimes it takes the paper, others it doesn't. This is super bothersome since I'd like to be able to print on special media. When I do finally get the prints out- they are nice but not worth all of this time wasting. I'm super disappointed with this item and this is the first negative review I have ever had to make for an Epson product as I'm a long time Epson customer, at least 15 years.

The R1900 crushes the 2200 printer

By slide from Collingswood, NJ on 07/19/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have used this printer for about 2 months with stunning results. Ya, I would like this printer to use less ink, but if the end product looks great how can I complain. The design of the outside case, which has doors to keep dust and whatever out of the printer, is a plus. Like any other printer it has its quirks, the contrast is a little high, but is very easy to fix. I would like to add, that I used the 2200 epson printer for about 7 years. The R1900 is no joke! You can't go wrong with this printer.

When my R1800 needed to be replaced, I immediately checked the spec on the R1900. It looked to be everything the R1800 was, and more. So, I ordered it. In the months since the R1900 arrived, I have printed many kinds of photos, and I've been pleased with all of the results. These are clear, bright and sharp prints. I shoot mostly color, and this printer does a great job of rendering them.

Nice print quality for the price

By archidad from Milwaukee, WI on 07/15/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer is a great deal for anyone needing large format printing at home. With Epson's rebates, the price is right. One word of caution... go easy on the "superior gloss finish". This is a SUPER HIGH gloss finish with highly reflective finish surface. No smudging, but I'm not a big fan of this level of gloss. A satin/semigloss would have been much more appropriate for my use (architectural prints). Other than that, I'm quite satisfied. The feed feature for trimming from roll paper is worth the extra time learning, but otherwise this is an easy printer to use.

Bottom Line:

i use only 5 or 4 star epson papers, epson inks, and epson profiles...i use lightroom exclusively and have never had a problem...i print mostly on 8.5 x 10, 13x19 and lots of times on 13 x 44 roll paper...these images come out exactly like they should...i am finicky about sharpness and color reproduction as matched by my monitor (which is calibrated)...the ONLY problem i would admit to is the amount of ink it uses and the fact that in hawaii there is no dealer that carries this ink...i always have to have it shipped in. i would suggest using only the best papers that epson offers, profiles and inks. it makes a huge difference when using other combinations as they are just not set up for epson exclusively and you will not be satisfied...

Epson R1900

By Abbie123 from Orange County, California on 06/26/2010

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I used an Epson R1800 for years and was happy with it. But, it finally died after reaching its end of service life. I replaced it with the R1900, choosing it over the R2880, due to a higher product rating. With the R1900 I immediately noticed the small ink cartridges and then the very heavy ink usage, in my opinion way too excessive. As I continue to use the printer I can't believe how fast I am going through cartridges. I also notice the orange ink has a tendancy to make skin tones too orange. I will upgrade to another printer soon and wonder which one is best for printing on both glossy and mat papers, including Velvet Fine Art paper and Watercolor bright white paper. And, one more thing, the "87" cartridges for the R1900 are not readily available at office supply stores as were the cartridges for the R1800.

Love my R1900

By Jess from Cypress, CA on 05/16/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I own an Epson Artisan & it is a great printer; however the R1900 I just bought exceeded my expectations. The printed colors are true to my digital pictures. I have read the reviews of the R1900 and the complaints of the amount of ink the R1900 uses..hello, it prints large pictures. I cut a 13 x 19 sheet off of a canvas roll and used the back feeder and it came out great. I would of course still use the roll attachment for pictures longer than 19 inches. I find the printer very easy to use.

Bottom Line:

This is my first more professional photo printer. I have been having decent results with the provided profiles, but it has taken a while to get the colors correct to my liking. The one issue I am having is getting profiles from other companies to work as well as the Epson profiles. This can be a bummer when you want to use different papers for a different look/feel. Overall, good printer. Know that you will need some time to get things right.

Cost was great. Quality of photo prints is phenomenal. Unit is compact and easy to set up and use. I was initially happy with the cost of ink cartridges, but found the printer goes through ink very fast..still a great value. Only other drawback is when printing at the lowest quality setting to save on ink, the quality is very bad. Almost not worth even printing at that resolution.

This printer has been hooked up for a couple of weeks and I haven't been disappointed yet. The colors are great and the speed at which it prints is outstanding. My only "con" is I am unable to find a good selection of the larger papers locally. I have had to order them in the larger sizes.

DON'T BUY

By MIKEg from TEXAS on 04/12/2010

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I am a semi-pro photographer and bought this printer after much researching. This printer does not meet the hype that many customers and magazine reviews rave about. It is very slow to print and eats ink like crazy. Because of its slow speed and heavy use of ink for prints you constantly have to be replacing the ink cartridges and the inks aren't cheap especially when you have to buy up to 8-10. If you run out of 1 color ink, printer will not operate. The gloss cartridge goes down very fast. Sorry Epson but I am quite disappointed in your product.

r1900

By CurtJ from Washington State on 04/11/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought the R1900 printer as a refurbished model. It was a snap to setup and it ran great for the first half dozen prints but soon started to make white tracks in parallel columns or rows which are called pizza wheels defect caused by the output rollers picking up ink from the print causing the paper base to show through. The prints that did print were of the highest quality and I was disappointed by the result of the printer being defective. I had to return it after running some paper with it while on the phone with an Epson tech. Epson paper would print without flaws at first then the problem began all at once and consistently made tracked prints. If a person should buy one and it didn't have any mechanical flaws then they will be quite happy with it I sure.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased the R1900 on a friend's recommendation and boy was she right. So far, I love this printer. It took a bit of reading to determine the settings for the absolute best quality print but now that I've found it...WOW! I have entered my first juried gallery show and am using my own prints for the framed photos! They look fabulous!

Great Printer

By PhotoJunkie from Connecticut on 04/07/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Love this printer. Have been using it for only 3 weeks but very pleased with print quality - better than on-line services. The ink is somewhat expensive but I knew that before I bought it. Did my research and selected this printer, but didn't buy it until there was a rebate. It was worth the wait. Sometimes the paper doesn't feed well but overall I would highly recommend this to friends.

Fun Workhorse

By robertcolorado2009 from Denver, CO on 04/05/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love my R1900!!! I get a smile almost every time I print a photograph because of the colors and rendition of the photo in general. I had purchased another 13x19 printer only to wonder each time I printed something how it would look. Now, I know! I have confidence in almost everything I print. That it'll come out as I hoped and in a lot of cases BETTER than I imagined. One of the features that swayed me into buying this printer is the roll paper option. The 3880 doesn't even have that. I can see myself updating to a larger format Epson when my business allows. For me, it's Epson or nothing. Nope, didn't get paid for saying this either.

Great photos

By Zendaze from Chicago on 04/03/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The photo quality is just great on all types of media; suits my purposes just fine as I print for my personal use. I'm having a bit of a problem feeding the higher gsm papers, but I can live with that. Ink cost could be a problem if you do high volume printing, however the cost is offset by the quality you get. Overall this is one of the best purchase decisions I have made.

Great printer and great price

By Wilkinson31 from Lebanon, OR on 03/29/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After much research and reading expert and customer reviews, I bought the Epson R1900. I am very pleased with the quality of the color prints. The colors, especially the reds, are very sharp and vibrant on the best photo setting. The facial tones are absolutely beautiful. I have an old scanner without all of the bells and whistles found in newer photo scanners. I found Epson's technical support team to be very helpful. It is my opinion that the quality of photos printed with the Epson R1900 far exceeds those printed from photo labs and have own Epson printer since 1984. I use OEM Generics Ink Cartridges in the pass and will eventually screw on your printer now I only Epson Ink Cartridges and photo paper for the Best Results and loner printer life.

disapointed

By kcfl from tampa, fl on 03/22/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I can't use this printer a professional finish. The photos do not have that perfect finish to them. I have tried different paper and the prints still come out looking dull and a bit smudgy. I find using a smaller epson printer works much more efficient than the 1900 for 4 x 6 prints. Works great for canvas though.

High quality prints...

By Sundance from Louisvill, KY on 01/28/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've owned this printer since May 09. I've printed on various substrates including cotton rag fine art paper, semi-gloss and gloss photo, and matte. The image quality is supurb provided you start with a quality digital image file and choose the right options in the printer utility. Someone complained the printer has feed problems. The only problem I had was when I tryed to print off a roll. However, that was probably more me than the printer. Have never had problems with sheeted paper, even on 13x19 inch sheets. This is by far the best printer I've ever owned. Have never regretted my decision to buy the R1900.

Fantastic

By fancydancer from Denver, Colorado on 10/15/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I had been using Epson Stylus Photo 870 for several years and it finally gave up the ghost, banding and bad color, etc. After vascillating for a few months I decided on the R1900 and have not regretted my decision. The photos are fantastic, what you see on the monitor will be tranferred to photo paper. Cons: Cartriges are small and not readily available locally(have to order directly from Epson) and I like to keep two extras of each color on hand. I'm not a professional, just take a lot of photos with my digital SLR of grandkids, scenery and wildlife. This is a great printer.

We had a 1800 and it died. Gosh that was the worse day ever in my life!! I haven't been able to print a decent print on matte since that day. This printer has no idea what a decent green is!! OMG if I could just get my 1800 back!!! Oh and it sucks ink down like it's gulping down a milk shake!!! If anyone has an 1800 that works.. let me know. Normally I would recommend Epson but not this make and model

GREAT PRICE & EVEN BETTER PRINTS!

By PhotoRichD2X from HOUSTON, TX on 07/14/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer reaffirms why Epson is THE LEADER in top of the line photo printers! Epson knocked my socks off in 2004 when I purchased my first Epson printer. It was an Epson all-in one Stylus RX500 photo printer and it just blew me away with the 8.5 x 11 prints I was getting. I still have it and still use it. But I finally felt I could go for a 13 x 19 format and started looking, it was exhausting. There are a lot of printers out there and many, many mixed reviews by buyers for every make of printer. I stayed focused on Epson because of the great results with my RX500 but I still was seeing mixed reviews in the 40-60 to 70-30, (good/bad respectively), ratio and so kept putting things off and reading, reading, reading. Then I finally came up on a near 100% ragingly great review winner, The Epson Stylus R1900. Nearly everything I read in the way of independent buyer and tech review articles was super thumbs up. I think the only down, (and it's not all that big of a 'down'), is the size of the ink cartridges that go to the R1900. They're no bigger than the cartridges that are made for my RX500. But if you put that point aside, the rest of the printer and its abilities are OUTSTANDING by anyones measure. I strongly suggest this printer if you want professional, museum quality results! The 13 x 19 size print, (sheet or roll capability), down to 4x6 snapshot with 7 color cartridges and 1 Gloss Optimizer cartridge, and specifications that rival most "professional" printers will win you over in an instant. So stop searching right here, right now and BUY THIS PRINTER! You will not regret it and that is just the plain truth of the matter, 'nough said.

Nothing else i've seen even comes close.

By Shogo7g from New Orleans, LA on 06/03/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Gloss so stunning you can see yourself in it, and a flat matte black which no other printer can even hope to touch (except maybe the R2400, which is $200 more). I work in retail and I've seen the preformace of other brands, and other Epson printers, side by side. Only downside I find is that I have to clean the nozzles often. I've gotten into the habbit of printing a 4x6 proof before I bother with the oversized paper to make sure my nozzles are clean (otherwise banding occurs, expensive at 13x19 to have to redo). But that's a small price to pay for an ink jet machine with a level of quality that not even a laser machine can touch.

Bought my printer in Dec 2008...... and am very happy with it. setup was easy, and print is super.... I make signs and use alot of pictures on things I make... I print on vinyl and overlay with UV 2mil and It works very well. I also use a liquid spray UV Coat (Frog Juice) and It works very well also, so if your a small to med. sign shop and need digital print then the R 1900 is the one you need Color is very close to screen, I think for the price you will be more than happy with this printer

R1900 A Great Printer

By Yakima from Minneapolis, MN on 01/26/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Over the last week Ive been giving my EPSON Stylus Photo R1900 a workout. I've needed to produce large prints for photo competitions as well as 4x6 prints for family and friends. This printer has handled both very well. I am printing from Photoshop CS3, with Adobe RGB color space, and ICC paper profiles. The Users Guide made it easy to set up the color management. Using the EPSON Ultra Premium Photo Glossy Paper I am getting great color prints with intense saturated reds and yellows as well as great B&W prints with subtle variations. Prints match very closely with my screen display. I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the prints Im getting. Im looking forward to getting some roll paper and printing some panoramas as the R1900 will print up to 13x44.

Epson R1900 a Great Printer

By jrp831 from CA USA on 01/20/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I needed a printer that would go large enough to produce the 12 x 12 scrapbook pages for my wife and meet my own needs of printing standard size prints from 4x6 to 8.5x11, labels and printable CDs. I have found the printer and I need to look no further! The Epson Stylus PHOTO R1900 answers all of my needs and goes to an even larger size of 13x19 that I look forward to exploring. I am very happy with the user interface and found it easy to setup, install drivers, and use the provided software. It was a simple matter of installing the driver CD, following the on-screen instructions, attaching the printer via USB, and it was ready to print. The driver software interfaces seamlessly with other applications on my computer such as word processing and scrapbooking software, and it proves easy to change print settings in the print dialogue. The Print CD software was simple to work with and it took me only about 10 minutes to start it up, import graphics, and print good quality directly to a printable CD instead of using a stick-on label. The printer produces photos and pages with vibrant color. Even without calibration, the color closely matches what is on the screen. I am amazed that it takes less than 2 minutes to print out a full color 8.5 x 11 page. I have used both store brand and Epson papers to print and found that the Epson paper by far gives me the best print quality. All in all, I give the Epson Stylus PHOTO R1900 a 5 out of 5 rating. I think it is an excellent printer for the serious hobbyist who requires more than just standard color photo printing from their personal printer.

How my R1900 helps Costco

By rsmorris from Atlanta GA on 12/27/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The R1900 is a great printer. Even though this is the first hardware review I've ever done, I guess I should be more complete. I'm not a pro photographer, but I take a lot of pride in the photos I turn out. I have been using an HP C6150 which has been good but confining. Letter size is pretty much the size limit, and color prints produce somewhat blotchy blacks. So, I've been doing a lot of my printing at Costco. While Costco does great retail printing, sometimes it is hard to get just what you want, and the choice of papers is limiting. Plus there are those shots you would be much better not sending out to the box store to be done. Installing on my iMac was painless. The one thing that took me by pleasant surprise was discovering that the R1900 has a second USB port for connecting to a second printer (my laptop!). My first print in the R1900 actually took me off guard. The colors struck me as a lot more vibrant and the print glossier than I had been used to. So, I printed the same picture on the same paper on my old printer. Side by side the comparison was remarkable and more than confirmed my initial reaction. I had, of course, read that Epson had made this a great glossy printer. So, my next print was on high quality matte paper. The results were not disappointing at all. While I would never put anything but Epson ink into Epson printers, I've tried several brands of paper. Results on Red River 50lb Premium Matte were great. And prints on Costco's premium glossy photo paper match the output on Epson's own paper at a fraction of the price. A couple of things: The R1900 goes through the glossy coating ink cartridge rather quickly. But the good news is that the glossy coating comes in boxes of 4 cartridges . The other thing is that this is a large machine. But it has to be to print on paper as large as it does " up to 13x19 plus roll paper up to 13 wide. The bottom line: With the R1900 at home, Costco is now selling me more paper and fewer prints!

Epson R1900 Review

By Ragman from Naperville, IL on 12/09/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I previously had been using Epson Stylus Photo 1280 printer and thought it was about time to upgrade to the new Epson photo R1900 printer. To say that I was taken aback by the performance and print results of this new printer, would be an understatement. Immediately upon opening the box I found the instructions which made the setup very easy. In no time at all, I was printing pictures. I need the capability of being able to print 13 inch wide photos and since Im printing pictures of clothing, I like the fact that the R1900 uses pigment-based Ultra Chrome Hi-Gloss ink, which gives much better color definition of my products. The picture quality that it produces with the smooth gloss finish is nothing less than extraordinary. Occasionally, I give a CD of my products to a customer and really like the fact that I now can print on the CD, making it much more professional looking. I would highly recommend the Epson R1900 for anyone wanting a printer that can produce outstanding vivid prints up to 13 inches wide. I would also recommend using Epson Ink and Premium Photo Glossy paper for continued outstanding prints.

Fantastic results!

By TexasEd from Plano, Texas on 11/11/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Installation of the Epson R1900 Printer went very smoothly as I anticipated, having previously installed 5 other Epson printers in the last 9 years. The only surprise I experienced was the absence of a USB cable with the printer. This necessitated a trip to my local electronics store. I began the printing process using Epsons Ultra Premium Luster using Photoshop Determines Colors as my preference and WOW; I got a perfectly matched print on a 13 X 19 sheet on the first try. My monitor and print were in sync immediately. I was almost afraid to try a second one for fear of not getting the same results. A few days later I purchased some Epson Premium Glossy paper and used the ICC profile to print three portraits for a client. Fantastic! The colors of the skin tones were right on the money and sharp as a tack. The best glossy print Ive ever been able to produce in all the years Ive been printing was suddenly there. I then selected a photograph that had strong reds and oranges to print since those two colors have been a problem in the past to create the intensity and saturation I desired. The R1900 handled them beautifully. The only problem I encountered was the paper feeder on the R1900. The design is different than my Epson R2400 and did not feed the paper properly when using 13 X 19 sheets of luster even after placing 8 sheets into the feeder paper path. The problem did not exist for 8 1/2 X 11 sheets however. I finally did a work around by placing a piece of cardboard into the feeder area and its thickness now allows the printer to grab the paper stock on the first try. The print quality, colors and saturation is really spectacular and Im very much pleased with the output that the R1900 is giving me. A fantastic printer for the price!

Epson 1900 good, but not perfect.

By Showme1 from Missouri on 09/14/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Overall this printer does a good job, particularly on glossy paper. Pros--fast; excellent glossy prints. Very good job on most papers I have tried. Cons- For many photos it does the best job I have seen to date. But this printer can be a challenge with the color green. The ink tanks are ridiculously small and the fine art paper feed is a challenge. I believe part of the color problem is a need to tweak the profiles. The color problem is the specific reason I have rated the printer a 3, rather than a 4. The monitor is calibrated.

R1900 printer

By EpsonLover from Missouri on 07/24/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have owned this printer a little over a month now getting great results.....The only problem that I have had at this point is a couple of times the printer didn't recognize ink cartridges.....even though the cartridge was brand new, I would have to replace it with another.....that can get abit pricey especially since the cartridges are smaller. Much faster than the R1800 which I had previously.....They are both great printers along with the Epson R800 I own as well.
