Two Steps Back

By databanka from MA on 08/10/2015

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After owning the Artisan series (700 & 800), this is a huge disappointment. The CD loading tray system is a throwback to the 1990s. The Artisan CD direct feed, no tray, was light years ahead. The ink consumption is insane. This thing is a Guzzler! The amount of time it spends getting ready to print is absurd. It's like we went back to the 1980s: it makes a lot of noise, grinding, whining, and then minutes later is decides not to print because it wants more ink... This is the worst printer Epson ever made.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I haven't owned it long enough to comment. I really don't print out that much, My only concern against it so far , is the idea that it opens nicely,, tray 1 and tray 2 and the front door. but when its done I have to close it manually , or its in my way . And also I haven't been able to find the ink cartridges locally.

with Epson small is better!

Bottom Line:

This has to be my 10th Epson printer, and every time they get better. My last printer the Epson Artisan 837 was great but it was also big; whereas, the Epson Expression Premium XP-800 Small-in-One Printer fits nicely on my home workstation and gives me room for more accessories. This printer prints faster and better quality photos. It's Wi-Fi features have been improved as well. And it does all these with a smaller footprint.

Horrible printer, Horrible scanner.

By ReviewerMax from Perth WA, Australia on 07/03/2015

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Horrible printer, Horrible scanner. Cannot recommend. Will not print on A5 paper (always jams) Have to turn off virus scanner to scan otherwise a single page scan takes up to 5 minutes. After printing the tray remains out and does not return when machine turned off. That's annoying. Uses a lot of ink. Don't buy this machine.

Epson xl800

By Anonymous from San Jose, CA on 05/09/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My old workforce 500 finally quit due to paper jam. It lasted for over 6 years. The xl 800 works as well as the wk500 AND it's wireless all though I've only used it for copy and scanning functions and those work great. Only worry is ink usage. Printing out my income tax for storage (56pages)nearly emptied the black ink cartridge. Time will tell if this is a continuious problem, however the cost of each cartridge for the xl 800 is lower than my old workforce 500. Over all I am very pleased with this new printer and hope to use it for many years.

Epson xp 800

By edison from New Jersey on 02/09/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

So far the printer is working as it should. The first one they sent me did not print right out of the box. The only fault I find is that it is an ink hog. I only printed about 10 or 12 black & white text pages & the black cartridge ran out of ink. The color cartridges are about half empty. One good feature is that when the black cartridge ran out of ink I was still able to print. The printer asks you if you want to use the photo black ink. That's about all I have to say.

xp-800

By Jim from Dallas Texas on 02/09/2015

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer is amazing, first it is wireless and all the functions work great. It prints excellent text as well as photos. It has two paper trays, one for photo paper and one for text. It can also print right on a dvd, although I have not tried that yet. It also prints on both sides without your touching anything and does it well. The one drawback to this and all other printers is the cost of the ink, it is outrageously high. All in all I like this printer a lot and hope to use it for many years.

Bottom Line:

I highly recommend this product. It is easy to use- very basic. I love the touch-screen and the viewing window. I am putting together some memory books for my mother's 80th birthday and have used the scan function for old photos and Family Tree info. And you can't beat the printing! I can work off my laptop via wi-fi and never have to worry about whether or not it will print. I do use Epson ink as well as premium photo paper. The results are fantastic.

Excellent print/scan feature. High ink use.

By litwit from Stillwater, OK on 01/07/2015

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I use this printer for home office, and it does not get high usage. The photo image quality is excellent. Text is generally high quality. Scan works as expected with, again, Epson's high quality. It sucks up ink, though. It has 5 ink cartridges: Black, cyan, yellow, magenta, and photo black. The standard black ink cartridge that came in the package was empty after printing 5 pages of text. The standard color and photo black cartridges are fareing better, but still faster than I expected. The ink is expensive, too. Plus it will not allow you to print if any one of the cartridges needs to be replaced. I like the brand and the quality, but I don't recommend this model based on ink usage alone.

Pretty good except for the ink replacements

By MrsGG from Olympia, WA on 12/23/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I like my Epson printer well enough but the thirsty ink usage is frustrating, because after printing 2 very good color copies, the printer said replace this one, and then replace that one, and pretty soon I could not print at all even though the black was new, before I replaced the black. It was an expensive time, and that's the part I hear about the printer that makes people unhappy. But it's a good printer nevertheless...thanks.

Hard Wired, Wi Fied, and Clouded

By VegDetroit from Redford (Detroit), MI on 12/15/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great Compact, Sleek, Black, and Shiny Printer that can be connected all three ways at once. The fourth way is through a telephone line for the fax functionality. Love the automatic paper tray. At the end of the day I can push the tray in and close the control panel and not have to worry about the cat breaking anything. Also love the individual ink cartridges. This is the first printer I have had that has this capability. It used to kill me to have to throw away a color cartridge just because one of the colors ran out. I will never go back to a printer that uses a single cartridge for color. Be aware that if you use card stock with this printer you must use the manual feed slot in the rear of the printer. Did not know this when I purchased mine. Also because of its compact size you can only use letter size paper in the paper tray. If you want to use legal size you have to use the manual feed in the rear of the printer. Another spec I missed when I purchased mine. I have had my printer for a year now and no problems so far. The Epson Connect is really great and allows me to print from my iPhone using email.

XP-800 printer

By Dave from Pocatello, ID on 12/01/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not the best epson printer I have owned in respect ink usage and quirky off and on failures. It has stopped printing in the middle of multi-page double sided printing. When printing color photos has faded out to white only printing about half of picture. In both instances when I restart the project it works fine. It seems to use much more ink than any others I have owned. Overall when the above problems don't happen, it is a great printer. Since I have always used Epson printers and I think this might be isolated I have replaced it with an XP-820

A great printer

By Jim from North Texas on 11/08/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer is amazing. It is truly a standalone machine will do many things without the computer even being turned on. It is wireless and seamless. IT prints pictures of a quality I would not have believed, vivid beautiful colors, just superior. IT prints both sides of a sheet of paper, saves a lot of paper this way, you can have a book format etc. The scanner works really great. I obviously think this is a great printer, the ink is a little costly but so are all the inks for any printer. Uses 4 ink cartridges, I like this feature. Check out ink costs before buying any printer as you will be shocked. However for this printer, the ink lasts pretty well. I just find the quality of the printer product so great that I think it is well worth it. IF you want a printer that really works and prints great photo's, does it all, faxes etc. Whats not to like. I personally like this printer a lot. Jim

Great Printer for First 9 months of Use

By paradigmaven from Columbus, OH, USA on 10/01/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

As you can see in the other reviews posted here, the first 6 months are product heaven, after that perhaps a different story. i bought my XP-800 in October 2013 and it has been a good printer and scanner all around - except when it comes to printer cartridge recognition and management of ink use. Without warning, I hit a brick wall that shuts down all printing functions with the message: "You need to replace the following ink cartridges: magenta". i check the ink levels regularly and it was NOT low before i got that drop dead message. Nevertheless, I sent away for a magenta replacement, put it in, and immediately the printer screen said i need a yellow replacement! and again, i can't print anything, even B&W. Obviously this is a product infrastructure flaw NOT a low ink issue. This machine has totally wasted my time! (including this bad review). i am going to replace a complete set of ink cartridges every 6 months from now on to try to achieve a level of reliability.

The setup is easy and straight forward on PC's and tablets. The unit works well either on WiFi or USB, I have not tried it on a wired network. All functions (printing, scanning, fax, and disk printing) are easy to do if you read the instructions or follow the directions on the screen. The manual (downloaded) is comprehensive and easy to read. I highly recommend the XP 800

Is A Printer that Doesn't Print a Printer?

By Cory from Las Vegas, NV on 09/16/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The poor reviews this printer has received are completely true. I have had nothing but problems. Failing to recognize printer cartridges. Ink clogging. Failure to produce an accurate picture. Pictures that bleed ink even days after printing. Currently, the printer will print no image whatsoever despite new cartridges, and the scanner will not communicate with my computer, This is my THIRD unit after contacting Epson to replace it twice. It is truly the worst product I have ever purchased.

I have had this printer for a year now and have had nothing but issues. I can't print anything anymore of decent quality. One of the colors especially red doesn't want to work no matter how many times I clean, replace the cartridge's and print heads. I will not buy another Epson. I never even bothered trying to print on a CD which is a real shame. I am looking for a new printer. I had purchased another Epson previous to this one and had to return it the day I got it cause of issues.

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love the ease of use when using tray but I do not like the difficulty I encounter when trying to use the rear of this machine. I have a difficult time doing envelopes. I will set it up and the indication is that it is ready but the envelope just tends to pass thru. However on the second or third try it will print the envelope. It tends to only accept one envelope at a time. I will not be happy when I do my greeting cards.

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased this printer on Dec. 1, 2013, and it worked well until July 9, 2014. I use it primarily for printing photographs. I have printed hundreds, both on glossy and matte paper. On July 9 I tried to print matte finish notecards, and all of the darker areas were blotchy and discolored. It seems to print ok in plain paper settings, but not in Presentation Paper Matte, which is very disappointing.

This printer prints well but doesn;t even matter because ink cartridges keep becoming unrecognized or clogged. I had multiple ink cartridges sent to me from epson since they said it had to come from them and same thing kept happening. Got printer exchanged and the same thing kept happening to the new one. Once it's time to exchange the cartridges, I keep putting in new ones and it says it doesn;t recognize them. Spent soooo much money on ink that I now cannot even use! This is the worst machine!!!! I'm not the only one this happened to wither. Do not buy.

Bottom Line:

Lile the footprint of the printer and its quality when it works. However I have had much trouble with one or more ink cartridges not giving out ink because the printhead needed cleaning. This happens too often. I have had previous Epson printers like the Epson RX680 that worked flawlessly. This printer is less than a year old and frequently results in many prints of photographs being wasted, when the printing is initiated wirelessly from another room in the house.

This all in one has many great features but I will never buy another. It goes through ink like crazy. The cartridges can not be refilled. You have to use Epson ink or it wont work. Generic ink which is cheaper will not be recognized and therefore the printer wont work. If I chose draft mode to conserve ink it is so pale it cant be read so you have NO choice but to use a mode that uses more ink. Stay away ,very far away from this product.

Ink replacement issues

By Undesirable from SLC, UT on 07/03/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased this product within the last year. It has work flawlessly until recently started rejecting newly purchased ink. I primarily use the printer as a back up printer but mostly for its scanning ability. This printer does not work as a scanner if a printer cartridge is not full. I have since found that Epson does not recognize its own ink chips after a certain amount of time. I purchased this ink last month and have not used it almost at all and says ink cartridges that are full need to be replaced. There seems to be no fix for this and Epson does not send replacement cartridges in this case. Unfortunately most people will not see this until they have a similar problem with their Epson printer.

Printer has design problems

By Sue from River Falls, WI on 06/14/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

While the 800 does the usual Epson excellent job of printing photos (my primary reason for having a printer to begin with) it has design problems. The paper trays are underneath the output tray, which makes it a real struggle to load papers. And the ink usage is high (again, I process photos so this was not unexpected), but the cost of the inks is considerably greater than I would expect, and I have to purchase ink more frequently than I have in the past. This means the ink cassettes are not made with the capacity of other printers. While not a design issue, this makes it much harder for me to plan photo printing. Sad, but true.

By Julie from Nebraska on 06/10/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This printer eats ink faster than any other printer I have ever had. Very often prints green stripes through everything I print. Clean the printhead and sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. Have returned this printer once for a replacement because it printed green stripes through everything. I think this is something this printer is prone to do. Can't print anything good or a photo without green stripes. Totally wasted my photo paper and won't even try that again.

At home and work, I've owned and used at least ten printers over the years, including the Artisan 800, which I really like. But this XP-800 is easily the worst. I figure I've had maybe 30 decent pages printed by now, and I just bought my third black ink cartridge, which doesn't work. The first one didn't work, so I bought another cartridge, which did work. It was used just a little bit, when I had to go away and leave it for a year (putting myself out of warranty). Upon return, a few pages were printed fine. But then the message that ink cartridge is not recognized. But purchased one is not recognized either after it is installed. So, I guess I'll buy one more cartridge to try before I throw this XP-800 into the garbage where it belongs.

XP-800

By photogal 60 from St. Gabriel, LA on 04/25/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The Epson XP-800 printer has been nothing but trouble for me. Previously I had an Artisan which I really liked. When it quit, I immediately researched Epson again for a good photo printer. In 8 months I have had 5 XP-800 printers. The original worked for only a few weeks, then was replaced by Epson with 3 refurbished XP-800 printers. Finally they sent me a new XP-800 and I have used it for a few weeks with no problems, yet. The ink has always been the issue. Either the printer doesn't recognize the cartridge or it just doesn't print properly. Epson customer service and support are great and maybe the other printers work well, just not the XP-800.

This is a great printer if all youre going to do is wirelessly print documents but if you plan on copying faxing or scanning documents well this is not the printer for you. you can set all the settings to original size w/ no border and scan it and hold the new page up to the original and play this fun game of guess how it distorted it did it shift the image to the left or did it shirk the header or even better putting the whole image at an angle

Like so many other reviews, this printer DRINKS ink. I would stay away from this one. The nozzles keep clogging and cleaning drains the ink even faster. I've had Epson printers and scanners for years, but this XP-800 has to go.

GOOD NEWS

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this Epson xp800..It is small enough for our life on a sailboat and we can scan, copy, print, and even fax if we had a landline or an internet fax line...but we do not...cause we do not care to spend money on faxing...it also has 2 sided printing so that non-spatial people like me do not have to figure out how to print on the back side...the printer makes beautiful photos for promotional material and in color with caps to cap off the ink if you are not going to uses the printer for a while...Great features and perfect for us...thanks Epson

wastes lots of ink

By Del from Indiana on 03/23/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought this new late July 2013, now Mar 2014 and I just ran out of a few ink cartridges and replaced them with genuine Epson ink carts. I had to run cleaning 2 times each time I replace one cartridge and the cyan I just installed 2 days before is now 1/2 empty already from all the cleanings. NOT a good track record for ink. Before this I was very happy with the quality of printing, but way to expensive on ink usage.

First class in all respects, high quality scanning & printing. Uses less ink than my other printer. Appears to be quite fast on photos, saving time. I needed a water resistant ink for a special application & the Claria Ink did the trick.

Epson Expression Premium XP-800 Small-in-One

By Chief034 from Rindge, NH on 03/11/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Well, I've had this printer for over a year now and have to say of all the printers I've owned, this is one of the best as far as printing goes and the BEST at working wirelessly. It's only rival was a ******* that did absolutely perfect pictures. Having said that, I had noticed when I first printed a photo the quality wasn't as good as I'd expected, so I set about calibrating it. I noticed that the lines in the test pattern didn't seem to line up just perfectly and I couldn't even see the yellow lines. I'm color blind, so I blew it off. Everything else seemed to work just fine. The wireless connection implemented flawlessly. The photos I would rate like a 9.5 out of 10. After a few months one day I noticed the printer said it was offline when I tried to print. There are a million hits on this if you Goggle it to try to get it back online. All of the answers are wrong and all are right. You just have to match them up. Reinstall the print software worked best for me, but while pursuing the elusive answer I called tech support at Epson and offhandedly mentioned the print quality. He had me run a few tests and told me the printer was defective. In 3 days I had another printer which they sent me at no expense to me. I put my old one in the box and sent it back. Amazing quality now. Mechanically the duplexer works excellent, printing on both sides has never missed a hitch. never had a paper jam. The adf (autofeed) has never tried to put 2 pieces through at a time. It's a well made machine.

Worst Printer EVER!!

By Anonymous from Linden, NJ on 03/02/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Since I purchased the XP-800 I have had to buy more ink than ever! Each cartridge comes only half full unless you buy the XL which is more money, same size cartridge, but still does not last. I can't even get 10 sheets without having to buy more ink. AND unless you change ink,it will not let you use the scanner. As a graphic designer, I have had epson printers for years, but never again. This one is not worth it.... STAY AWAY Wanted to return, but of course it's past the 14 days.

Poor quality

By sumthinfierce from Columbus, Ohio on 02/22/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have owned 7 Epson printers over the past 7 years and until my most recent purchases I have recommended the Epson printers to all my friends. I owned two RX280's, two RX595's, an Artisian 725, an XP-600 and XP-800. I loved the first 5 and they worked perfectly for me. I do a lot of printing and just simply wore them out. I purchased the XP-600 last fall and it lasted about a month and it started leaking ink and jamming paper. I purchased the XP-800 last month and have barely used it and it is already broken. It eats ink like candy and I just installed two new ink cartridges and now it's printing horribly. I did a head cleaning and no luck. I tried a few more head cleanings and it is still bad and now the head cleaning used almost all of the new ink I just installed without using yet, plus all of the other inks I already had installed.

My Epson Printer

Bottom Line:

My daughter bought me an Epson all-in-one printer for Christmas several years ago and I love it! However, my youngest daughter and her school mate was using it one day to print out some school documents and ruined it. The problem is... it doesn't recognize that it has paper in the document feeder therefore it won't feed the paper through either the auto feeder or the back feeder. What do I do, or how can I fix the problem? However, I LOVE Epson product's :-)!

Did Not Meet My Needs!

By BEJ-711 from Raleigh, NC on 02/13/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The Epson XP 800 produces vivid color pictures but is not that sharp on paper. I was also initially impressed with the capabilities, compactness and features, but found it does not meet the demands my small business requires. Most frustrating was inability to override the color option when just one of the 4-pack cartridges was depleted. Even the black one has a short life span and needs to be replaced frequently, and these cartridges are expensive! This product is more suited for minimal personal use; therefore, I cannot recommend it to small business owners who don't have another printer to fall back on.

Nice small home printer

By Lynnifer from Pennsylvania on 02/11/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nice looking and functions well. Fairly easy to use after you go thru the menus. The ink life is better than my previous (other brand) printer. Haven't figured out the scan feature yet. Don't care for the "CD tray" just laying on the desk under the printer. It is awkward to access the #1 cassette photo paper tray and the #2 cassette regular paper tray. The "other" printer had much better access.

XP 800 Review

By TeacherLes from Lakeland, FL on 02/11/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Although I have not used the scanner on the XP-800, I found the quality and speed of the printer and copier to be extremely good. I have printed both documents and photos up to 8x10 and they were of near-professional quality. However, the amount of ink used seems inordinately high and were empty after printing less than a dozen photos. This has driven printing expenses up dramatically as the ink does not come cheap. So its' use as a photo printer is limited.

Having had an Epson Artisan 810 for several years, very happy and functional until a pre-programed and unnecessary ink pad death. Purchased a new XP 800 anticipating the same level of product. I've had this one for 2 weeks, it runs through ink in a day...when the same level of printing as I did before would last for several weeks. Its been down, more than working. I had one beautiful print job...and since then it has been down because we are out of ink or the ink nozzles are clogged and after you do a test pattern and clean the print head....you are out of ink again. This is going back....

Bottom Line:

I have been purchasing Epson Printers and Scanner's for 15 years and have had mostly very good luck. This is the second All-in-One Epson product I have purchased. After several years of use my last Epson All-in-One had Auto Scanner problem. Because of Epson's track record I decided it would be cheaper to purchase a new machine because of repair cost vs a new printer. I have only had this XP-800 for a few months and so far so good. I use the CD/DVD print Label function and I only wish that Epson would have kept this function on their line of Work Force units

Bottom Line:

We purchased the Epson XP-800 and have had nothing but problems with it since we got it. The ink cartridge situation is a joke. There are 2 black cartridges. Well the larger cartridge runs out of ink often. Also, we have had to return the printer to Epson for a replacement twice. We are on our 3rd printer in this time frame. I will give customer support an A+ on how they handle the situation. I would say that this is protocol with this printer model. So they have the process down pat.

I bought this printer in September, and brought it home. I installed the software, registered (thankfully), and plugged in this printer only to find it doesn't work. Everything you print has lines running through it. Thinking that it was a fluke, I continued printing. It was not. I bought and changed the ink cartridges, and still, everything you print is unreadable. Almost every other review I read on this product said the same thing. Never buying Epson again.

Bad choice

By mateng from Burnsville, MN on 01/22/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought this because it was top rated by Consumer Reports. One of the first jobs was to print a photo. I could not get the printer to print via the rear paper port. Had to use the top tray. Even so, the result had some undefined distortion on one edge. After a few successful print jobs, the printer malfunctioned and missed lines in the black ink. I tried cleaning the heads twice. Although there was improvement, some jets were still non functioning. Was this a sign of bad experiences to come? I had only printed less than 20 pages. I had it with this printer and it went back to the seller for a refund. Very poor choice.

IT WORKED GREAT UNTIL THE BLACK INK RAN OUT(ABOUT 3 MONTHS). I REPLACED INK CARTRIDGE AND AFTER SEVERAL HEAD CLEANINGS THE PRINTER QUIT RECOGNIZING THE CARTRIDGE. I CONTACTED EPSON AND THEY SENT ME OUT A REFURBISHED ONE, ALL SCRATCHED UP. I INSTALLED THE CARTRIDGES AND PRINTED THE NOZZLE CHECK, ONLY 1/2 OF THE BLACK PRINTED. DID HEAD CLEANING ANF NEXT TIME ONLY ONE SMALL LINE OF BLACK PRINTED. ATTEMPTED 2 MORE CLEANINGS, PART WAY THRU 2ND CLEANING PRINTER BEEPED AND SAID IT COULDN'T RECOGNIZE THE BLACK CARTRIDGE. IT'S DID THE SAME THING AS THE ORIGINAL ONE. I HAVE BEEN USING EPSON PRODUCTS RELIGIOUSLY FOR OVER 20 YEARS(AT WORK AND HOME) AND CAN TELL YOU THIS MODEL IS JUNK!!

nice little printer

By sandyo from Brant, Michigan on 01/19/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Have not used all of the printers functions, but have had no problems with the functions I used. The scan to function is great, I have scanned a lot of OLD family photo's, making it possible to put them into a digital photo for my Mom that has memory issues. She loves the fact that I can bring back memories she has lost. That has pretty well made the printer pay for itself. The only draw back is when the ink is low it will not function. An earlier warning of low ink would make it possible to keep extra on hand.

Guzzles Ink...Clogs up. Very disappointing

Bottom Line:

Bought the printer and after a few days had to replace all the ink cartridges. Two weeks later, colors were missing on print out. Ran all the maintenance and trouble shooting. Called support, very friendly, ended up with a replacement unit. Second unit lasted five months before the same thing happened. This printer guzzles the ink. Print out nothing but black documents; but the blue, red, and yellow ink levels are low. Never printed out photos, but black photo ink level is low. Now, after talking with support...full ink levels all around, colors are not showing up on printouts...waiting on replacement unit number three. Third time a charm?

I am very pleased with this multifunction machine. It has so many features and print and scan quality is much superior than that of my old Epson printer and scanner. One problem has occurred. The heads got clogged but the machine was quickly replaced, fairly easily. Customer service, therefore, seems good. I knew going in that Epsons are prone to this but the other features make it worthwhile.

I am very pleased with this printer so far (I've had it for about a week). It was easy to set up & get connected to my network. Right now I have it on my wired network. I would have preferred to have a better way to enter the network password than just the telephone dialer and having to press the same "key" several times to cycle through the letters. The fax setup worked easily & I have been able to send several faxes with no problems at all. All of my printouts have been very sharp & fast. The test pages & non-photo paper pictures look really good. I haven't tried printing a regular photo yet.

poor design

By Susiebrown from River Falls, WI on 01/06/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My current printer - an XP800 leaves me cold. While the photo renditions are great, there are a couple of serious design flaws/operation glitches. First, in order to change or add paper or photo paper, the user has to reach beneath the paper receiving tray. Both the photo paper tray and paper trays are stacked beneath the upper tray. Second, I have to go to printer preferences every time to tell the printer which tray to use. The settings always go to fax (I don't need or use that) and I have to be sure to set it for regular printing each time. Both situations are very annoying! AND the ink is REALLY pricey! Sorry, Epson, this one's not a good example of your otherwise great products.

Excellent Printer

By Tom from Indiana on 01/01/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Our new Epson XP 800 printer is fantastic. It is compact, easy to operate and best of all it produces great looking documents and pictures. The touch screen controls are well laid out and easy to interpret. The thought that went into designing the touch screen(s) is appreciated by this user. The old push button controls were not intuitive and every time a new model was released the symbol, location and function were altered. The Epson brand has always meant quality and reliability to me. That tradition is upheld with this printer.

Warranty Expired-Printer Expired

By unhappycamper from Huntsville, AL on 01/01/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have been using the Epson XP-800 for 12 months and 4 days. All of a sudden it won't print anything requiring black ink. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting processes to include using one complete set of ink cartridges for print head cleaning. Still nothing.

Very disappointed with this printer

By Mike from New Underwood, SD on 01/01/2014

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Purchased this printer since consumer reports rated it so highly. I do not use the printer on a daily basis - mostly for small print jobs from the internet and some personal letters. I have had to replace the ink cartridges 4 times since August. The color printing is horrible. One time it prints clearly and adequate color and then the next page is a mess with washed out lines of color. For the money I spent, I was expecting a good product. I am very disappointed and now have to search for a new printer.

Too difficult to use. ...

By Fed Up from New Hampshire on 12/29/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Too difficult to use. Cannot adjust the black print, it is too light and cannot darken. The "Draft" mode comes out so light as to be unreadable, I am not even sure there is ink on the page. The moving parts keep knocking things on the floor. It is a real pain to use.

This is just what I needed!

By dcs from Columbia, MD on 12/29/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use a B & W laser for most business work, but I need a color inkjet to make 8x10 photo certificates. My previous printer from another manufacturer had a hard time with photo paper since it had no manual feed slot. I wasted a lot of time and money trying to get good prints from that one. This printer happily has a manual feed slot in the back that makes printing large photos a snap. I also like the remote printing function in addition to wireless printing.

not enough info

By mikey from Kountze, Texas on 12/26/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Just setting up the new printer and I,m sure that I will like it. But, the setup info is poor, especially the paper tray info. I've been playing around with the setup for a couple of hours and I still dont understand how these trays are to be properly loaded. I shouldn't have to talk to a factory rep just to understand the basics. A thorough guide book should be included with a printer.

By Jackattack from Houston on 12/26/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this printer for the photo print quality which is outstanding. There are some design flaws in the printer itself, in my opinion. The single feed paper slot is very cumbersome to use. My bookkeeper refuses to even use it and pulls out the paper tray and puts in the different paper she needs just for one copy. It truly is a pain. Other thank that I love it.

Epson XP-810 set up...

By Jim Z from Massachusetts on 12/26/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The printer installation was relatively easy due to the excellent directions in the setup guide. I did run into problems with setting up the printer to my wireless network which could have been easy if only the directions would include some reference to how to print lower case letters. I spent a lot of wasted effort to solve this and finally gave up and pushed the system onto my network - it now operates smoothly. Later, after product registration was complete, I found on the Epson website a wireless network setup video which finally did the big reveal about how to set up a wireless network using a password which requires upper and lower case numbers and letters. Since there is no shift key on the printer display, this was not intuitive as it should have been - you need to continue pressing the select key until you go through all upper case letters and then it finally displays the lower case letters that I was searching for! A simple sentence in the otherwise excellent directions would have saved a lot of trial and error and frustration - just tell people up front how to access lowercase letters instead of just reminding them to do so! Everything else about this setup was relatively easy - overall, a very decent product at a great price.

Not the best Epson printer

By balbooks from Richland, WA on 12/26/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have been using Epson printers for years and I use them pretty hard so I've had a few of them. This one is a pain! It uses a lot of ink mostly because I am always having to clean and/or change the ink. It has regular error messages that come up "cannot read the ink cartridge", when this happens, it says to reinstall the ink cartridge, then it runs thru the set up which cleans all the cartridges. After all this, it still cannot read it, 90% of the time I have to install 3 cartridges before it will work so keep plenty of spares on hand! Oh, and this will happen even in the middle of it working properly so then you only use part of a cartridge. Because of all the cleaning, I have to replace cartridges much sooner than I should (I've replaced to photo blacks in 3 months and never printed on photo), only get to use them partially, and some I can't use at all because they can't be read. Guess what? I only use EPSON ink too! This printer prints and copies well, it is compact and easy to use but the ink cartridge factor makes it a pain and expensive to use! Not happy with it.

Buyer Beware!

By Pepper from Undisclosed on 12/26/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This printer worked fine until it hit 10 months old. Then the problems with printing and copying began. Black printing was light gray and copying was picking up colors not on the original (green, yellow and red.) Within 1 month, Epson has replaced my original printer 3 times! The first was refurbished which was unacceptable; it was so beat-up looking it belonged in the trash. The other 2 were brand new printers that within days started showing problems with printing and copying. I've had this one about 2 weeks now; we shall see how it holds up. The one star rating I gave it was over-rated, but I'm not able to give it less...

It's great

By Momof4 from Lenoir City, TN on 12/24/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer is exactly what I was looking for. It is small, I can print wireless from multiple devices and photos are great quality. I have had wireless printers before that were difficult to get setup and the photo quality was poor. My last printer was large and bulky and cost much more than this one. I am very pleased with this printer. I even went back and bought my dad one for Christmas. I think this is a great quality printer for a reasonable price and the small size is another wonderful aspect of this device. I haven't used it to scan or fax yet, so I can't comment on that yet but it copies and prints great. It prints fairly fast too. Setup was simple and quick. I am using this product with MAC products and it is completely compatable.

This replaced a ink guzzler printer(another brand) that also did a horrible job overall. This printer is easy to set up, very fast and easy on ink consumption. It is much quieter than previous model and very pleased with print quality. Have not tried printing a photograph as yet. Will give it a try after the holidays. Great printer for at home use, home office use or small office use.

Epson Expression Premium XP-800 Small-in-One

By Phoenix from Minneapolis MN on 12/19/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Love the machine. Powerhouse in a small space. The only negative I have is the paper loading. I find the set-up to be hard to use. If the printer had a permanent base on the bottom to slide the bottom paper tray on, it would be very helpful. The space I use has a cloth surface, so I have to lift the printer in order to slide the paper tray in.

Great Home Printer

By donw from Evansville, IN on 12/19/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The printer has worked very well for us, had some problems initially getting it to stay active, would require a turn off and on if it had not been printed to for a while, but got that straightened out and now works fine. Like all printers, you might as well go ahead and buy full printer ink cartridges as the ones that come with it only have a very small amount of ink (starter cartridges).

Ink sucker

By supapaloco from Appleton, Wisconsin on 12/18/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

in all the years of owning a printer the past twelve months have been my worst experience by far. My initial impression was very positive; the installation went well, it had all the features I wanted, it produced good quality print. Then one day lines started appearing across the page and it was down hill from there. I had to clean the ink head multiple times and while doing that we ran out of ink; the spiral began. Ink cartridges that didnt work, followed by cleaning the jets, followed by more ink cartridges. I finally gave up and have replaced it with a new priner from another provider. By the way, if you look hard enough you will see the same comments echoed on other review sites by other people.

Excellent little printer. I have it specifically for printing snaps at home and it does a bang-up job. Clearance price made it even tastier. The set up was simple and straight forward. The 4 x 6 photo paper tray is a little weird; pushes in too far and could be set up wrong if not careful. Print quality is just perfect, especially on the Epson semi-gloss.

Experience in Frustration

By Anonymous from Savannah, Missouri on 12/16/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We purchased the Epson XP800 printer in Sept. 2013 and were delighted with its features. Because of limited technological skills there were several calls made for support. These calls were made to Manilla and took quite a bit of time. One continuing problem was the support staff could talk faster than I could listen - they were patient and repeated them selves often. After about one month the printer seemed to use a lot of ink so we purchased 2 new ink cartridges in black and a color package. After sucessful ink installation, the printer consistently gave the message to install new ink cartridges. This was done in sequence although no printing had been successful. The printer was carried to a service technician where it was purchased and he verified that every thing was correct in installation; since we had not purchased the stores' plan and we had used it for about 5 weeks we could only call the Epson Company. This we did, one support staff said the company would issue a new ink cartridge, a subsequent call obtained the promise that a new printer would be shipped within 2-5 business days and we should return the failed printer in the box of the new printer immediately after its arrival (2 - 7?) business days. The replacement printer was promised on Friday and the replacement printer arrived the following Friday. It was quickly installed and worked well that afternoon. The following morning it failed as the other one had. We went shopping for a different printer on Nov. 30 and purchased a new printer (not an Epson) from a different store. On December 1 we delivered the original printer in its shipping box to Fed-Ex and the replacement printer in the Epson Box for the first printer to the store where it had been purchased. A print test page was in the paper tray for the 'refurbished' (labeled) printer identifying the first installation test on 11/29 and the second test page on 11/30. We were delighted with the features promised in the XP-800 printer but the failure and subsequent service left much to be desired. Thank You for asking!

Good printer, not-so-good firmware & ink cartridge

By WTP from Chicago suburbs on 12/16/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Installing setting up the XP-800 printer on Windows XP and Windows 7 was pretty simple, even when adding it to a new computer over 6 months after the original installation (just download the current drivers and software from Epson). The wireless setup was a piece of cake. The print quality is excellent and pretty fast, though I have not tried printing photos. The primary paper tray should be re-designed to hold much more paper. Copying bound documents is a bit tedious, as it scans a bit, then prints a bit, instead of scanning a whole page into memory and then printing from memory while a new page is being placed (primarily when copying from bound documents - automatic document feeder copying is easier). Most frustrating is that the XP-800 WILL ONLY ACCEPT GENUINE EPSON INK CARTRIDGES, not accepting cheaper cartridges. Even more frustrating than that, about 10-20% of the time it rejects GENUINE EPSON INK CARTRIDGES as being unrecognized!! That means that you must always have spare ink cartridges of every color on-hand because you never know when one will suddenly appear as 'unrecognized'! To their credit, when called Epson has always shipped a new replacement cartridge at no cost; but I would much rather be able to rely on genuine Epson cartridges working until they are empty. Being required to have spares on hand just lets the ink get older before being used. And... they should permit non-Epson ink to be used - it is the customer's choice to: "pay your money and take your chances". The optional Epson software performs a lot more disk reads and writes than would seem to be warranted. The titles and uses of the optional software are a bit murky, they could offer a lot more documentation (perhaps a link to the full doc) about what each does and why one should install it when being asked if one wants to install it. Would I buy this printer again? No - but only because of the issues with the ink cartridges. If you can tolerate the genuine Epson ink cartridge failures, then this is a terrific printer. The printer itself performs wonderfully.

Great Printer -unacceptable power cable connection

By LisaR from MN on 12/16/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This printer is perfect for us, but since the power cable does not stay connected to it, we will be returning it. Before taking your unit out of the store, I highly recommend pulling it out of the box and checking to see if you can live with how the power cable attaches to the printer. We will be checking to see if ours is just a lemon in regards to the cord, and we might just exchange if that is the only problem. If you are truly looking to save space, you will NOT be able to push the printer flat against the wall since the cable connection is on the back side. Otherwise we loved all the features and connecting wirelessly (sp?) through EpsonConnect worked very well through all of our devices.

1 Major Flaw

By toobusy from Texas on 12/16/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The XP 800 Small in one lives up to it's reputation in every aspect, but it has one major flaw that makes it a loser for me. The print nozzle heads clog up so it randomly prints things on a page as the ink comes out in dribbles or not at all. Epson customer service is great and they are well aware of this design flaw. The first time this happened was after 3 months of regular use. It has happened on the replacement printer after only 2 months. I only use Epson ink so that is not the problem. It was working beautifully then I installed a new ink cartridge and bam it started the problem. I typed Epson print nozzle head problem into a search engine and many reports from people having the same problem popped up. I don't have the time or desire to continuously fight this flaw. It's a real shame as the small in one is otherwise a great piece of equipment.

Great Value

By David from Chicago, IL on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Fantastic multifunction printer with a small footprint. It has a ton of features in a small package at a great price point. I have been very pleased. The paper tray could be a little bigger, but other than that it is great. It has a lot of higher than functions like Airprint, Google Print, scanning directly to Dropbox, and printing directly on CDs!

Only two trivial complaints

By Steve from Hurley NY on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The first is that neither of the two office supply stores in my area carries a package containing one of each of the five ink cartridges--preferably at a discount from buying them individually. The second is that compared to the similarly priced unit from another company that it replaced, it's just a tad slow. Otherwise a great product.

Epson XP-800

By Ruther from Melourne, FL on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The size was just what I was looking for to replace my beloved all-in-one Epson RX680 which worked beautifully for me until it wore out. Technology what it is, gave me high expectations with my new XP-800. Not! To print greeting cards using the rear feeder is horrific. The paper goes in and then rolls right out never beginning its cycle immediately no matter which way you may try. It is irritating and annoying and takes so much time for one copy. It makes annoying comments on the printer screen to put the paper stand up when it is already up. If you only want to print copies or photos from cassette 1 and 2 all is well as the quality is decent. I also would like to add the it uses ink like crazymaybe double to triple my old printer. I'd love my old RX680 back!

So far the printer has been excellent. It easily receives messages from all my devices - computer, notebook, phone. I have printed good quality photos as well as normal print jobs. The scanner works as I had hoped. I still haven't had reason to use the fax component, so I can't yet speak to that feature.

Bottom Line:

The quality of the printer is excellent but I have two complaints. The first is, two sided printing is extremely slow. The second is, when one of the ink cartridges runs out the printer locks itself out and you can't use the printer at all until you replace it. This is a great inconvenience.

Ink

By Photo from Northern California on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This printer takes way too much ink and it is expensive. The cleaning process it does on its own but is initiated by me, when a page does not print perfect, takes too long and must be done several times for it to work properly. I need the manual to walk me through the steps. High maintenance. It also prints darker than the image on all three of my computers. The good thing is the wireless set up that works perfectly.

Versatile yet finicky

By selurgniman from Undisclosed on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Overall the machine works really well; the double sided document feeder and double sided printing has been good. Really the only problem I've had is that the print software and drivers can be finicky when used as a network printer/scanner. Frequent timeouts with the scanner software are annoying when you're 100 pages into a 200 page scan. In maybe 1 out of 50 prints the printing software will be unable to send the document to the printer and also unable to delete it from the spooler. Restarting the computer and printer are necessary to clear it.

Anything new is always ...

By wingnut22 from Northern Illinois on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Anything new is always going to be a problem for me. Changes are good but time consuming and hard for me to adjust to. It takes a while to learn all the new features for which I am still learning. The print quality is very good. I get confused with having 3 different trays for different kinds of paper. I understand that one tray is for photo paper and the other is for plain white copy paper but am having trouble getting the information to printer of which tray to use. I have yet to use the automated copy feature inserting 10 different pages to be copied on the top to be automatically fed into the printer and copied. It is not a feature I would use every day but I do see it would be handy to use when needed.

Awful Machine

By Dina from Jefferson, CO on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I went through three of these printers in less than four months. All three consumed ink like it was a drug. The first printer lasted about three months. The second one was a refurbished model & lasted half a day. The third one was new & lasted one week. I threw it away & replaced it with another brand. I have an Epson Artisan 837 in another home. I bought it early in the year & it performs very well. The ink consumption is normal. I don't understand why Epson discontinued this model. In summary, since Epson no longer makes the Artisan 837 & the XP 800 is such an awful printer I would not recommend neither it nor the company.

My Favorite Printer

By Howard Birch from Central Florida on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am particularly pleased with the ease of installation, multitude of features and user friendliness. I have owned many ink jet printers of all brands and the XP-800 is by far my favorite. Everything seems easier to use and everything has worked perfectly. An example is the ease of printing envelopes which is usually a nuisance. Mine is on a home network and works flawlessly. I do need to try it with my iPhone. Great printer.

Epson All in One XP-800

By El cotudo from Houston, TX on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is the best all in one for the price. It's compact and easy to setup. Ink usage is very frugal (I loved this). Being able to print both sides of a page is not cumbersome as you do not have to remove and turn pages. Feeding table works well. Warm up time for scanning is very short and scans are good. The wireless printing is great. I'm looking forward for the next edition of this all in One and I hope Epson allows trade ins. In summary: this is the best bang for your buck at this time.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was a little leery at first because it feels kind of flimsy compared to other Epson printers I've had, this is my 4th. I print a lot of photos and use it for creative projects. I like this printer except for the paper trays which are not so easily accessible and the back photo loader is also kind of flimsy. On the plus side it is easy to set up, is pretty fast and I love the print quality of my photos. In my opinion it is not as good as the RX 700 which I had for years and absolutely loved even though it was slow.

Just what I expected

By JustCruisin' from Chicago, IL on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bottom line: The printer was easy to set up, and delivered as promised. This is what exactly what I was looking for. I still don't know if it has the cheapest ink because I haven't used the printer enough but it is perfect for my home use. I was able to easily print from my iPhone and have set up an email address for the printer to send a print job remotely (the test during set up worked but have not tried it out yet). I haven't printed photos yet either. I tried out the scanning function and was able to save as a pdf - exactly what I wanted. Some reviews complained about the small paper tray. Yes, it is small but if one wants a bigger one, they should choose a WorkForce rather than this Expressions line. For home use, this is fine.

product not as good as hoped

By Peachy from Georgia on 12/15/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My printer worked for 4 months, then some of the plastic feet on the gear broke off, affecting the printer's ability to pull paper thru the feeder. The printer did not have heavy loads to print, but was used to print approximately a dozen or so sheets of paper a week. I was sent a "refurbished" unit which was not working properly when I first tried it - the printing was coming out very faint and also, it arrived with ink cartridges almost empty. I tried replacing the ink and still no improvement. Then I was sent a "new" unit without the normal included items in a new unit box. It is working, just, but the print quality is still faint (cannot determine why) and I have only used it very lightly. I am not expecting it to last long and would not recommend another Epson product.

Excellent AIO when the ink cartridges work

By Anonymous from New York, NY on 12/13/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This printer replaced an Epson Artisan 810 that I had owned and used for many years. I decided to upgrade because the XP-800 expanded on the Artisan's feature set to offer double-sided scanning and faxing, plus the ability to print from my iPhone and iPad. I'm pleased to report that it is also faster than the Artisan yet retains the older model's excellent printing and scanning quality and ability to print directly on CDs and DVDs. I initially had problems with pale printouts that turned out to be caused by defective ink cartridges. All is well now, thanks to good support from Epson. They assure me that quality control issues with the 273-series cartridges have been addressed. Beware of the print head cleaning function: it cleans ALL of the print system, not just any color that is clogged, and it uses a LOT of ink. Each cleaning cycle uses about 15% of the ink in each cartridge (regular size, not XL). My advice is to run it only once and replace any cartridge that doesn't come clean: you'll probably save money by not wasting ink in the good cartridges.

A Smart Purchase

I very recently purchased my XP-800. Overall, initial experience has been excellent on the basis of reasonable cost, compact design, touch screen utility, and ease of hook-up. I called customer service once to insure I was installing a secondary laptop computer correctly. A representative answered promptly. While the rep was very eager to assist and very courteous, communication for me was difficult. I think it speaks well of Epson customer service that promptly, upon my request to have another rep assist, my request was granted and the continued installation proceeded perfectly.

By RichL from Lexington, SC on 11/28/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This review is limited by no previous experience with Epson but with a great deal of other brand back ground. Never before was I able to wirelessly set up a printer without major complications. The Epson 800 proved to be so simple that the only person who would NOT be able to do the job would be someone who cannot read relatively simple English. If this is a valid precursor to a new Epson experience, I am expecting a joyride!

Very Satisfied

By Norm from Springfield, IL on 11/26/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use a computer and printer moderately as my wife and I often print the food/restaurant coupons, and she uses it to keep track of her book lists at the library, plus recipes. In retirement I use it mostly for the one junior college class which I still teach. We have not used it for printing photos yet, but it is highly rated in that regard by Consumer Reports. We bought the Epson XP-800 instead of the 810 as the 800 was still available at one store and was priced $100 lower. I was fearful of "setting it up" but the manual and CD helped me breeze right through that process. Very pleased.

Won't print Black

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After the first 5 uses, this printer stopped printing black. Both Black and photo black cartridges are full; however it will not print anything with black ink. I have reinstalled it 3 times now and after the test page, it will not print black text. I am totally frustrated with this model.l

very good

By Anonymous from Placerville CA. on 11/14/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The printer itself works better than I had anticipated. The software was easy and fast to install. One problem was that the BK ink cartridge had leaked and the pouch that it was enclosed in was full of ink that could not be seen and when opened ink was everywhere. Managed to install it and it works now.

Wonderful Buy

By Mz. K from East Galesburg, IL on 11/11/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a very nice personal printer. I looked at many brands & kept coming back to the Epson. I was looking for a wireless printer to use with my laptop & I liked the options & price of this unit. I have had this for approximately 3-6 months & have never regretted the purchase. If you are looking for a nice personal wireless all-in-one printer, I definitely recommend this one. Thank you Epson!!!

Great until it ran out of ink...

By Macladybug from Tampa, FL on 11/11/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I would not buy another Epson printer based on my experience... This printer was purchased to replace another brand printer. It worked easily and without incident until the ink cartridges had to be changed. I was informed it had to be replaced (hardware failure) Since it was 5 months old I was sent a replacement. The replacement would not print all the colors and after frequent "nozzle checks" etc. stopping reading the ink cartridges that came with the printer nor would it accept the set I had purchased for my original printer. After some serious complaining I have been sent ANOTHER printer-- to replace the replacement ---a new one. This one set up perfectly and is printing beautifully. I'll let you know what happens when the ink runs out.

epson xp-800

this is my second epson printer. It is a handy size and easy to operate for a non-teckie. I also appreciate epson support. In Sept 2013 I bought a smaller printer to replace a larger all in one. After printing a few pages it began to jam the paper and nothing I did helped. Called epson and in 2 days had a new printer and love it.

Disappointed

By KK211 from Minneapolis, MN on 11/10/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My husband and I were incredibly excited about this printer. It is recommended by Consumer Reports, fulfills all of our desired specifications, and is an Epson. We love Epson. We purchased this printer in August 2013 and absolutely loved it for two and a half months. Then suddenly, the printer stopped working. It just won't put ink on the paper. We tried new ink cartridges, we spent hours going through troubleshooting sequences, we tried to find alternate solutions online, but nothing worked. The printer is completely dead. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this printer to other consumers.

don't like his printer

By pat from Richmond, VA on 11/02/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I am used to Epson printers, but my last one needed replacing. This one came with no User's Guide and no instructions in the Quick Guide that help with printing specific items such as Greeting cards. Help in Quick Guide are very vague.. Instructions call for a Memory card an no help a to what kind of memory card and no help as to how to use it. Also, I am used to scanning to my computer to adjust and resize pictures before printing. This printer will no scan to my computer. Thoroughly disgusted with this product.

Great little printer

By Leafy from Ignacio, CO on 10/30/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought the XP-800 as a back up to my Stylus R2400, which I use for 'art printing". It does a great job for everyday printing- the glossy photos are beautiful quality.. It does a great job on cardstock, presentation paper and ink jet paper as well. I like the ability to print wirelessly from more than one computer. One problem I have not conquered is printing by e-mail from my cell phone- just cannot seem to connect with Epson Connect, though my partner has printed from it with his cell phone.

Bottom Line:

I had a Workforce 545 and had no problems. I recently purchased the XP-800 and have experienced problems. First if I printed a B&W copy the paper was blank. It turns out the black ink cartridge that came with the computer was no good. I am awaiting a new one to be shipped. Then I installed the Epson app so I could print from my phone. I had used the app before and it was simple and easy to use. However, now I get he message on my my cell that it will not print.

Bottom Line:

This printer tests my patience every day. If it is not replaceing the ink cartridge (when there is still ink in the cartridge) it is the scanner that will not connect. Stops printing in the middle of the page for no reason and the rollers are starting to squeal everytime I print. Would not recommend this printer. My first Epson printer (Workforce) worked well - not this one.

I have had nothing but problems with this printer. The ink cartridges do not last long. You cannot print in black if any other ink cartridge is out of ink. It just keeps beeping at you to fix it. It has a tray that moves in and out when printing something. I am just waiting for the gears on that thing to break. Luckily I received this as a gift, so I did not spend any of my own money. I would NOT recommend.

Worst Printer I have ever owned

By lb63 from San Diego, CA on 10/15/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love the speed. That's all I love. This thing drinks ink like there's no tomorrow. At least when it actually recognizes a new ink cartridge. I can usually count on twenty minutes of testing and cleaning every time I change a cartridge--which is pretty frequently due to the aforementioned drinking problem. I'm ready to call it quits on this 2-month old purchase as I am spending a fortune on ink and lost time. No more Epson printers for me.

Just purchased the EPSON XP-800 PRINTER It is simply an outstanding printer. Ease of use gets a 10+. Great instructions ,including on screen graphics on each step of operation.. Print quality is outstanding. Direct printing to CD/ DVD is a breeze, again with displayed graphics showing how to print directly to discs. Software was great for each option the printer performs. Network setup was easy, the wireless, wired and USB was a snap. Faxing, Scanning and duplex printing are more great features. Not to be overlooked is the USB, and multi card reader. The direct printing on a DVD disc had professional results. Over all I would give the printer a rateing of seven stars if I could.

XP premium 800 small in one

By Petlover1 from Connecticut on 09/25/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this printer because I like the small size, and that it still does everything. I was worried I would need to ask a technician to come set it up with the wifi and AirPrint having read several reviews where people had problems. The instructions are very clear and I decided to try before calling a technician. I couldn't be more pleased! Everything went seamlessly and worked the first time! It works for the AirPrint or epson connect as well. No more running up and down the stairs to print where the printer is! It works perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone in need of such a printer and especially those who feel they are not that experienced to set it up themselves, it will likely build your confidence! Makes excellent photos (prints) too. I need to add I love the flat paper trays or cassettes no more crooked loaded paper and it goes through flat and straight the way it is supposed to. I despise those where paper is loaded vertically they frequently get jammed or wrinkled. These cassettes are a perfect solution!

Great Printer... with some quirks!

By Peter from Thousand Oaks, CA on 09/24/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great quality Photo Printer, as usual, but the software controls are a bit unfriendly. Using the Rear Feed Slot is challenging to say the least. It only holds one sheet at a time and when printing from your computer, you must select "Rear Feed Slot" and then hit the Print button, and then wait for the printer to be ready, and then, only then, ADD the one sheet of paper and hit the illusive "Diamond" print button (which until this point has been completely invisible!!) on the printer! Otherwise all sorts of additionally frustrating things happen. The other thing I have noticed is that scanning documents to the Computer using "Scan to PC - PDF" scans at high resolution and creates VERY large, but nice quality, PDF files. However downloading and installing "EpsonScan" allows you to control scanning from the computer and therefore change the resolution to a reasonable value (I like 150 for basic document PDF files). Only other issue I have after 12 hours of ownership, is that the motorized Front Tray and Control Panel do not self-retract when you turn off the power. They open on their own just fine, but do not close/retract on their own and "Pushing" them closed feels a bit damaging. All these issues could be resolved by software changes. Spending 18 minutes on the phone waiting for customer service, and then another 15 minutes "wrestling" with the rep. while experimenting on the printer, I discovered the "Rear Slot" solution myself. FYI: DO NOT place the sheet of paper in the rear slot until the "Printer Screen" says something convoluted about the "Rear Feed-Slot Support Stick" and then press the "Diamond" shaped button. Other than these issues I like the unit! EPSON engineers need to do better real world testing and re-design their software interface to be more user friendly. I mean really, why would any printer spit out the paper you added because you added it too soon, and why are half the "Virtual Buttons" invisible at any given time?????

This is our third Epson printer. This one is a complete disappointment: 1. Printer heads clog continuously. NEVER had that happen on previous models. 2. Constantly doing the nozzle check and clean. 3. Due to constant nozzle check and clean, the cartridges run out of ink. 4. When I finally figured out it was a faulty printer cartridge, upon returning it, the store gave me no hassle at all. HINT-They've seen it before. There is something seriously wrong with this printer AND on top of it all, to buy the 'recommended' XL cartridges, you can only get them through Epson online. Or at least, that's my experience. Sad.

This is hard to setup. The copies are faded looking. no Brown color. I used almost all the ink trying to see if the inkjets need cleaning. I wiil try to see if tech will fix it or just leave me in a faded mode

buy anything else

By mtnrose from Montrose, CO on 09/18/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

but not this one. Its very unreliable, needs frequent maintenence which eats tons of black ink. Then it eats more ink just to print a few great pictures (if you are lucky). Useless for printing text because black cartridge plugs easily so you waste more ink cleaning nozzles and printer head. It still doesnt work but then you have no ink left.... and nothing has been printed. I have returned three of these.

Epson XP-800 Software could use updating

By Carlos from Orlando, Florida on 09/17/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I just installed this software to my Mac. I set it up wirelessly thru a network thinking everything would work. I purchased this product because I wanted a wireless printer and the direct CD/DVD printing capability. I also read much about the reputation of Epson printers. The CD Print software does not recognize the printer unless connected with a USB cable. Then there is a problem scanning direct from the printer to the PC that warns of a communication error. The control panel on the printer does not auto detect or allow for the section of the flatbed of the document source. When I try to scan using the Epson Scan software there are no provisions to auto detect or select if the scan is from the flatbed or the document feeder either. It only scans from the flatbed. However when I use the image capture software on my Mac it allows for the selection of tshe flatnbed or document feeder and the printer works fine scanning. I spent the better part of a day restarting both the printer and the computer. I reinstalled and even updated the software and I,m truly disappointed with this nice printer

First look

By Don from Spanish Fort, AL on 09/13/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this Epson XP 800 as a replacement for an other brand that had gone south after a few years. The setup instructions were crystal clear, but make sure you read the startup notes before setting up. The printer was set up in less than an hour and working wirelessly from my desktop iMac, my MacBook Air set up next to my digital piano I use for composing and from my iPad in the living room. The text print is clear and especially noted was how clear the musical score was, even to the very small triplet notations. The proof of any product, however, lies with its longterm service. So far I have printed out abut 150 pages of B&W text, several pages of mixed B&W and color, about a dozen color photographs and several B&W and colored full page copies and have yet to make dent in the ink supply. After more use, I will return with another review to tell how it works in the long run.

Hate this printer

By FrustratedUser from New Jersey on 09/11/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We've been an Epson family for years. I've loved them all, but really loved the last Artisan. I hate the XP-800. Quality of text printing has been sub-par. All of the sudden, the cartridges can't be read, quality of printing deteriorated, and I've wasted a ton of ink cleaning the heads -- still isn't working properly. I will be contacting Epson tomorrow to see if I can buy an upgrade to one of their quality (please) printers. Very frustrated.

Good printer

By MikeyD from Waynesboro, VA on 09/08/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I had did some research on this printer and saw that some people had trouble with it right out of the box. I deceided to purchase it because I have an Ipad and will soon get an Iphone. I printed from my Ipad to my printer from across town, so that works fine. I hope that it works for the Iphone as well. It was easy to setup and I have no problem with having to push the tray back in, but I wonder after a lot of times doing that if it will hold up. I did purchase the extended warrenty. I don't do pictures for the photo print, but the colors look good on bright white paper. The one thing maybe that could do without is the blue light for the power button, kinda annoying with it flashing off and on again. I so hope that it works on an Iphone, which I would want to print from when I get the new Iphone5s or 6. I will wait to give it a 5 until I get my Iphone.

The Jury is Still Out on This One

By BURDO from South Texas on 09/08/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Purchased the XP800 in Mid-July and by late August I had a problem that required replacement. Up until that time, the printer worked beautifully and I was very happy, anticipating it's performance and long lasting service would match the other 4 Epson printers I have worn out over the years. It lasted just over a month before it quit printing text. Epson replaced the printer, but at this time I can only rate the printer as average. If it continues to perform without any problems, I would give this model a 4 or 5.

Upgraded EPSON

By Epson User from Falls Church, VA on 09/07/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I find the EPSON printers easiest to setup and reliable for many years. This printer was quick to setup out of the box and began working once the software was loaded with no problems. Only issue is that about every 2-weeks it loses wireless connection and the network must be found again and pw re entered. No other issues besides that.

Good Printer for Price

By Anonymous from Evansville, IN on 09/05/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It does a quality job at printing documents which is why we purchased it. Only problem so far has been connectivity. Not sure what the causes it, but if I go a day without printing to it, it shows on my computer as still being there, but can't print to it, get a printing error and of course Windows 7 does not tell you what the error really is. If we turn off printer and back on, it then will print the document without any problems. This happens on all the computers on my home network. I have not tried printing pictures yet because we have an Epson 2000 printer for pictures, so don't really need it for that.

XP-800

By Jim from California on 09/04/2013

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The XP-800 is exactly what I was looking for. The quality of the photos is excellent. Better than I expected even though Epson printers came very highly recommended by a professional photographer friend. Set-up with my wi-fi was a piece of cake. That was a must for me. If you are looking for a low cost photo printer for prints smaller than 8.5x11, this is worth considering. As far as general printing and scanning are concerned, sharpness is also very good.

We have only been using the printer for two days but so far both my husband and I are very pleased. I went to print two pages and it automatically printed on both sides of the paper. I told this to a friend and she immediately asked for the details so she could buy one. The colors are bright and the printing is crisp. My husband printed a birthday card on our old printer and then on the Epson XP800, the Epson won hands down.

Epson XP-800 Small-in-one printer

By Poorboy5764 from Texas on 09/01/2013

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I took the first one back within the first month due to poor printing out of the 273xl black printer cartridges. The store replaced the printer with no problems. I have now used the second printer for about 8 months and I am NOT very happy with it either. The printer was easy to setup, but that is where everything stops. The printer uses way to much ink! The ink cartridges dry out way to fast even the ones purchased from the online epson store. Then to do a head cleaning to try to get the printer working again you can just sit and watch the ink levels go down fast with each head cleaning. Will NOT go with this brand printer again!

Epson, you could have put a two directional motor that would have retracted the output tray when you power down. Some of us that dont have a lot of space and cant afford to have the tray extended out six inches passed the printer. And manually pushing it in all the time doesnt sound like a good idea. You really need to rethink this one.

I have had my printer a few months now. I is working nicely. Only drawback is that the set up and use instructions are a tad deficient. It took me quite a while to correctly figure out where to load the paper when I first used it. Poor memory had me go thru a bit or work to figure it out. I now have an info file to remind me how and where to load it. Best feature is that it is not an ink hog!!
