I'm using this switch to feed a projector with a 1080i signal. The sources are: Samsung DVD-HD841 w/upsampling to 1080i and DVI out, and an HTPC, with an HDTV tuner sending 1080i via DVI. The Gefen 241N connects two inputs and the one output. Front panel includes status LED, IR port, and output DVI connector, which tends to clutter the front. I had to zip-tie the output cord so it points toward the back of the unit along with the others.
Small two-button IR remote included.
5VDC adapter also included, so another power slot will be used up.
Works well. IR sensor sensitivity not great, but I can bounce the remote signal off the screen, and 90% of the time it'll respond.
When signals are identical (e.g., 1080i), it takes the switch and projector about 1 sec to re-sync between the two sources.
Since the switched signals are completely digital, I don't see how video would visibly degrade. However I did notice that the DVI output of the DVD player, when compared to the component output, seemed softer and less contrasty. No6t sure why that is, but it's not related to the Gefen switch.
NOTE: This model Ext-HDTV-241N does not switch digital audio! If you want that, you'll need to get the 241A model!
Knocking off one point in rating system due to annoying and unnecessary chassis layout, with connector on front panel. Completely uglifies it... but doesn't affect usability.
