Cost, Safety, Size, Quality, Utility
The fact that this knife is made in Aaerica is just more icing on an almost perfect cake. Sharp as anyone would need right out of the box and small enough to carry on your key chain, this Gerber knife is so useful that I use it literally every day. I have had any number of foreign made knives and none even came close to the Greber in quality, ruggedness for the price.
You can cut that extra tough steak you brother in law got such a good deal on to just about anything else you might want to clip, slice or split. The lock back feature makes it safe even for heavy duty cutting tasks where other knives would literally fold up.
In Viet Nam, Gerber knives were known for cutting through the skin of helecopters. Well, no one has lent me a copter to try this out on, but the knife holds an edge so well, I would not be surprised if it could open up a helecopter like a can of sardines.
One drawback; the knife becomes so much a part of my pocket that I forget to take it off and the boys at the airport keep taking it away. But although that is a real pain, the price is such that I can replace it without taking a second mortgage on my house.
PS: A friend always has a SASE in his carry on for just such occasions. He says it's easier to remeber the envelope than to take his pocket knife out of his pocket. And checper, too.
Superb litle knife. You can see why it has stayed so popular for so long.
