We looked at a lot of carpet cleaners and, we hope, this was the best of the lot. The unit is very similar to the lower cost Hoover units with a few 'extra' things that are likely more marketing than anything else. However, the one difference that convinced us was the 6 year warranty. With regular use any home cleaner will have something break in a few years with many lasting only a year or two. Thus, a 6 year warranty (vs. 1 for the overs) was a real attraction.
So how does it clean? Really, really, really well! On carpet that had already been cleaned well with an older Hoover about a month ago this unit produced water that was nearly black...yuck in a good way! And the room was dry within 4-5 hours. Stairs were a lot harder to clean but clean they are. Note that there is no hard floor setting on this unit but it still cleaned our sealed hardwood floors super well leaving nearly no water behind.
What's not to like? There are a lot of plastic parts that seem like they will break without a great deal of effort including retention locks on the soap tank, fresh water tank and tool door. Also, the hose for cleaning stairs is put under a lot of stress where it joins the base of the unit and I think it will fail under normal use.
Limitations aside, if you plan to use your cleaner a lot and are OK with the price then this is likely to be the best home carpet cleaner available.
