Time to cut the land line!

By JP Verified Purchaser from Ithaca, NY on 04/30/2008

Cons:

High Cost

Describe Yourself:

Gearhead, Practical

Pros:

Easy To Use, Easy To Install

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The high cost for this made me hesitate, but after reading other reviews I took a chance in hopes I could cut my land line and recoup my investment. Set up with my cell phone was quick and easy. The volume is louder than with my land line, with very minor distortion. There is the same slight hesitation when starting and stopping speaking as when using a cell phone. Performance is definitely acceptable though. I can now have the same convenience making/receiving calls, and talking on the phone anywhere in the house using cell service. Time to cut the land line! I give it 4 stars out of 5 because the cost still seems high for such a small flimsy looking plastic device that serves such a specific/limited function. At this time there doesn't seem to be much to compare it with though. Hopefully it will hold up over time.

We cut the cord with the phone company and went totally wireless 6 months ago. This system allowed us to plug both our phones (Sprint/HTC Mogul and LG Katana)in and use a portable multi-handset phones in our house. It has been great so far and people have remarked on how much clearer our voices are on their end. We hear them well too. This system is easy to set up and connect your Bluetooth enabled phone to. Also, there is no seperate charge for adapters, as with the Dock-N-Talk. Our only issue was that when we first set this system, we had our cell phones plugged in about 10 feet away from the location of the X-link system. The sound quality was tolerable, but as you spread this out further, things became uninterpretable. Now we have WiFi in our house, but the router was three floors above, so it was not likely the source. Since then, we simply plug our phones in within 3 feet of the device and the signal is great. While this system gives unique ring types to each phone connected to it, the biggest con of this system is that you it cannot ring multiple landline phones, like the Dock-N-Talk. This meant that we needed to hook it into a portable phone system that allows multiple handsets. We simply put one handset on each floor. You should also be aware the certain portable phones, like WiFi, may theoretically interfere with Bluetooth signals, so be sure to get a portable phone that avoids the 2.4GHz spectrum. Especially since the base will likely be sitting close the the X-link base system. Finally, the X-link can be easily updated and rings configured via a USB and a free downloaded utility.
