Bottom Line:

After MANY weeks of research of how to incoporate mp3 files into a car stereo wether it be an auxiliary input or USB, the choise was USB. Although you might not be able to distinguish the audio quality difference between USB and auxiliary input(AUX-In), you will definately hear the difference in the volume needed to be adjusted. Sure you can just turn up the volume to max with AUX-in to "solve" the problem, but you don't want the volume on high when switching back to CD Or radio. Technically USB has fewer connections going to the stereo just as a cd would. By using an AUX-in line, the music is played on ur mp3 player then runs to the speakers which causes the volume difference and audio quality difference. Usb produces the best quality sound, and oh boy with this JVC KDG820 stereo it's just a definate plus increasing it's max potential for best sound quality. After USB was the way to go, I choose JVC KDG820 mostly because I tried it out at a retail store and was amazed by the fact that my cowon iaudio U2 mp3 player worked !!!! That was the BIG PLUS to integrate my 1GB mp3 player into it. Then the amazing graphics display was the final selling point as I could see the song titles on it. [...]I like the fact they tell you how many they have in stock, which most websites don't. If the features are not enough to sell you, then just go out and try it !! Then come back and buy it online because I recommend it is just one of the best ways to intergrate your digital music out in the road. btw: If you have an ipod, don't expect it to work right off the USB port if it's more than 2GB. That's too much capacity and will be slow to read the files. Get the Ipod adapter and it will work just fine. Best Pro - My recently purchased (separately of course) PNY 1GB flash drives work great with this stero. It's like having a dinosaur cd changer in one lil flash drive, very high tech. Also PNY Flash drives flash a light while playing in the stereo adding a bit of vibe to it.Some extra features - Choise of Daytime and nighttime display of colors - The display can be changed 3 ways, to show the equalizer bars, the graphics display , or the information display with song title.- the equalizers have preset settings, but you can also create your own. - If you need to answer a call or need the volume reduce immediately, just with the press of the volume knob and it does the jobMinor Cons- I run Windows 98 thus I can't use the create your own graphics/videos display. (I do plan on upgrading though =D)- I've read some people think the stereo has too many features and is diffulcult to operate. This is my first aftermarket stereo and I find it to be ease of use for basic operations. There is just a slight learning curve for the more advanced features such as equalizer and creating your own graphics, but not that diffulcult for your average electronic literate. - other than that, no major cons at all !!

Best in the Price range

Cons:

Difficult Controls

Pros:

Attractive Design, Nice Features

Best Uses:

Sports Cars, Small Cars, Larger Cars

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a great radio. The basic controls are not that difficult. It's the more in depth controls. That might need a manual refreshment, If you don't do it all the time. The Look is good. the display shows Many things. such as, artist, song title (no character limits and on two separate lines), Time, sat signal strength. You can also Import your own pics to be displayed, its a cool feature! The only thing I would have liked to seen done better. would be the controls. Why did the make somethings to do so hard?? Owell I Only paid [...] US. So what this deck can do at this price. I'm not going to complain too much.

The Good: This is a great ...

By chris mcgough Verified Reviewer from Undisclosed on 06/18/2006

The Good: This is a great receiver with gread sound. Comes with 3 user defined equalizer setting which is great for the different music genres that I listen to. FM reception is definately a lot better than I originally anticipated. I have to say that I definately prefer having a sound reduction button as opposed to a full on mute. The USB port in the front is another huge bonus. I can connect my MP3 player right to the front, and I instantly have my whole music collection at my fingertips. The Bad(well, not bad neccessarily): The only downside is that the faceplate is not motorized. If flips down, but you have to push it back up. Only a minor inconvenience.

"The JVC KDG-820 is a ...

By John B Verified Reviewer from Undisclosed on 05/27/2006

The JVC KDG-820 is a very flexible, powerful unit that provides all of the capbilities advertised. MP3 playback has been great from both CDs and memory sticks. As might be expected of a unit with this many options and capabilities, the setup of the screen colors, images and movies was a little difficult. The documentation was more helpful than many systems of similar complexity. Overall, the sound is great, operation is solid, and the unit is easier to operate while driving than any other car stero that I've previously owned.
