Easy Controls, Long Battery Life, Lightweight, Good Sound
I was about to head off to a 4 day conference and needed something to replace an old analog recorder. Wanted something small, light, long battery life, high quality recordings, enough storage for at least one full day at a conference, and easy to connect to my computer. Met all of these requirements easily. The 44.1 kHz XQ recording mode has great sound quality.
My only minor quibbles are I don't think the battery life gets to the stated 15h 30min recording time (in the highest quality mode), though was over 10 hours I believe, which is still fantastic for only a single AAA battery. And I have never seen any portable product that meets its stated battery life.
And the file format is WMA, which I knew before I purchased is not natively supported on Macs, either iTunes or QuickTime (is supported by WinXP version of iTunes). Need to download and install the free Flip4Mac plugin, which enables QuickTime to play WMA and WMV files, then no problem. There are also free apps for batch conversion of WMA to MP3 or AIFF, Switch is one I used successfully.
The bonus on this recorder for me is I can also use for easy recordings of my guitar lessons and practicing. The old analog recorders were mono and limited frequency response, these new digital recorders are amazing, with stereo and 44.1kHz sampling support, and frequency response to 19kHz.
