I have really sensitive skin and can't shave with a manual razor because of severe razor burn and ingrown hairs. No big deal since I prefer electric shavers anyway. The problem is, even some electric shavers cause me to get ingrown hairs. The Braun Series 3 320-s4, however causes no ingrown hairs and is extremely comfortable, in fact it's the most comfortable shaver I've ever used. Previously I tried a Philips Norelco with Lift & Cut and at first it was fine, but after a few weeks when the blades started cutting below the skin level, I started getting ingrown hairs. After this, I knew I had to go back to a foil shaver. As far as foil shavers, I had previously used a very inexpensive Remington F2 because I had a full beard, and for that purpose it worked fine, since I just shaved a small area of my neck to define the beard. On my whole face, however It left a lot to be desired. That's why I decided to try out Braun because of their good reputation and upgrade to a mid-range model. I have a tight budget, so I couldn't get the top of the line models, and I didn't want to get bottom of the line either, and this shaver fit within my budget. I just can't see paying over $100 for a shaver. Pros: -Fast shave, not quite as fast as a rotary for me but fast enough. -Very comfortable with no irritation. -3 independently floating heads, 2 foils and a middle cutter for longer hairs. It shaved off my 3 day growth with ease. -By looks it shaves just as close as a blade on my face, though your results may vary since everyone's face and beard are different. -Good slide up trimmer. -1 hour charge gives you 45 minutes of shaving time, and when the red low charge light starts flashing, there is still plenty of time to finish your shave. -Fully washable for easy cleaning -It can also be used corded, which is useful because Braun does recommend running the shaver down completely the first time, then every 6 months. With the corded option this process will be no problem and you'll never get caught with a dead shaver. -NiMH battery, which I have read have more longevity than Li-on batteries, the memory effect is minimal, and they are more economical. -Inexpensive replacement cutter/foil cartridge. Unlike some foil shavers, it is one integrated unit, which makes cleaning and replacing very simple. Also it only needs replacing every 18 months. Very economical. -Very nice, solid design. I like how it feels in my hand. -Noise level is fine. It's louder than a rotary but quieter than some other foil brands Cons: -Compared to my previous rotary, it takes a few minutes longer to shave and misses a few hairs, needing a second pass. This is acceptable to me because it gives such a smooth, comfortable shave. Conclusion If you have sensitive skin, are prone to ingrown hairs, or if you just prefer a good, solid dry foil shaver you should try out the Braun Series 3 320s-4. If you want a wet shave capable model, the 340-s4 is around the same price so you may want to consider it. Just be sure to shave with it for at least 3 weeks especially If you are used to blade shaving. It really does take time for your face and beard to adjust. Your shaves should get better over time. Overall I highly recommend this shaver, it may not have all the bells and whistles of the high end models, but It does a great job at a fair price. I may do a video review soon so check back.
