Pros:

Convenient

Cons:

Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

We have a built-in space so this is the only microwave that fits. I've purchased 4 in the past 5 years because the door quits working.

great microwave

By Anonymous from Chapel Hill, NC, USA on 04/10/2015

Pros:

Convenient, Compact, Easy To Use, Inexpensive

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Led Brightness

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Best microwave I have ever used except for one thing. THE LED LIGHT IS SO DIM THAT IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO READ UNLESS YOU ARE VERY CLOSE AND AT EYE LEVEL.. I think this should be a very easy fix, but apparently it has been a problem for a long time. It would have a deal breaker for me at a retail store, but I purchased on line.it is silly to have such a great piece of equipment have such a terrible flaw.

Horrible! Should be Recalled!

By Unsatisfied! from Far North Eastern, IL on 01/25/2015

Pros:

None

Cons:

Deplorable Build Quality, Difficult To Use, Fails To Heat Consistenltly, Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality, Faulty Functinoality, Utterly Poor Design

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Purchased this microwave about 1 year ago, it looked like a nice deal at the store... Boy, was I wrong in assuming it was anything but a piece of junk... From day one cook times have never been consistent, it's almost like it needs to be pre-heated to work properly, and sadly that is how I have resorted to using it to keep my sanity... Example, for microwave popcorn I never use the popcorn button, unless I want a half popped bags full of seeds... If trying to pop popcorn using old school normal 'high' settings and listening to the pop rate, by tossing a bag in there when it hasn't been used recently it will take over (yes over) 5 minutes to pop a bag fully, yet if I let it run for 1 minute on high totally empty before tossing the bag of popcorn in (or if I have used it in the last say 5 minutes) the bag pops entirely in under 2 minutes, aka this microwave needs to be pre-heated to work properly and consistently... Now, on to the build quality or better said lack of quality to match the lack of functionality... As many have said the door button/latching system is beyond deplorable, about a week after having it I started to notice that the button needed to be pushed further and further to get the door open, in about a months time this had progressed to the point where you have to push the button in all the way until it bottoms out and 'hope' it actually unlatches the door, many times it doesn't, so I'm left repeatably pressing the button in and out fully until the door finally pops open, it's a mind boggling poor design and/or build quality... After 1 year of dealing with it I'm done and it's the last Panasonic appliance I will ever purchase...

Easy To Use

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

DO NOT GET THIS MICROWAVE. I bought only two years ago and I already have to replace it or pay for repairs. Its funny that right after the warranty expires my microwave brakes. The door sensor stopped working so the microwave wont work thinking the door is open when its closed. I have never has this problem with any other microwave but this one has issues. I am not the only one who had this problem a family member of mine has same the issue.

Save yourself from the agrivation

By TR from Live Oak,Fl on 12/23/2014

Pros:

Easy To Use, Inexpensive

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality, Door Latch

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I wish that I had went to this site and seen the reviews for this microwave before buying at a local store. The reviews on the door latch breaking are so true. After only owning it for a few months the door latch stopped working right. We had to slam the door to get it to latch then that even didn't work. My husband was able to look at it and fix it by bending the metal piece back in place and using some wire to secure it all . Well that part is still working but however now the top plastic door latch has broke off. The microwave will not start up now. I used to think panasonic was a great brand. I will not be getting another panasonic microwave.

Great - until it died after less than 18 months

By Anne O'Nemus from USA on 11/22/2014

Pros:

Convenient, Compact, Easy To Use

Cons:

Short Life, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great microwave - we loved it until it simply stopped working after just less than 18 months of light use. We don't cook in it - occasionally reheat frozen peas etc, but mostly cups of coffee/tea. Looks great, but should last much longer. Disappointing.

Satisfied!

By Anonymous from Undisclosed on 11/16/2014

Pros:

Easy To Understand Directions/owners Manual, Easy To Use, Handsome Exterior

Cons:

Must Have Directions Handy Except For Using Quick

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We like the exterior look and got the 2.2 size and wow is that large! We weren't sure if we'd like the knob as we've always had push button panels - we've all adapted fine. We like the sensor cooking. The food never comes out over-cooked on outer areas of the food - it's all evenly cooked. After so many decades of uneven cooking - that is something to get used to & we have! At first, we kept the directions out, to get used to using the Sensor/weight ooking and more/less buttons - now, we use automatically. Except for the Quick Minute button -this microwave is harder for a guest to use.

Cons:

Noise As Turntable Rotates, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This worked fine for a while, then started to make an intermitent squealing noise as the turntable rotates. We've tried reseating the turntable support and the glass turntable, but nothing ends the squealing noise. Otherwise it works well and we don't mind the fan noise.

Bad Door Latch

By BrianO from Texas on 10/25/2014

Cons:

Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

When closing the door, you have to push very hard, and the "boom" is very loud. Even after that, you are still not sure if the door is closed properly or not. Very often either the light does go off, of the microwave does not start to work, or both. A lot of microwave sold for lower price work better than this one.

Door Latch Broken

By Busy from Sarasoat, fl on 10/08/2014

Pros:

Inexpensive, Easy To Use

Cons:

Bad Door Latch Design, Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Had this for a couple for a couple of years and in the last few days the door latch doesn't work properly. You have to push the top and bottom of door together for light to go off. Now the timer has broken - when it gets to zero in the count down it resets itself and starts the cooking time over again!!! Have always thought Panasonic a good brand but will NOT be buying another. Not worth repairing. Wish I'd read all these reviews about the door latch

Dissapointed

By pakafa from Jacksonville, FL on 09/23/2014

Pros:

Attractive Unit, Easy To Use

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Expensive, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought one of these and it last about 3 years before it died completely. I liked the microwave and the features so I thought I would buy another one. I did purchase a new one less than 2 years ago. About a month ago I started having a problem with the door latch and the unit would not work. If you opened the door and firmly pressed it shut it would work. Last night I tried using it and it has died. I firmly close the door, select the power setting and turn the knob for the timing. The timer runs about 3 seconds and stops. The microwave never started during these few seconds. I won't buy another Panasonic (TV, microwave, etc) regardless of the appliance type.

Perfect Popcorn! :)

By Ling from Kentucky on 09/21/2014

Pros:

Palpable Buttons, Exceeded Expectations

Cons:

Pricey

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I just bought this microwave after my children killed my old one. I love that this one has actual buttons, not just a flat surface. I decided to test this one with the one food that most microwaves have the most difficulty with: popcorn. This one had no trouble AT ALL! I next tried frozen macaroni and cheese; typically one has to keep a close watch to avoid the 'burned on the outside, frozen on the inside' fiasco. Not the case with this model. I am very impressed and happy with my purchase.

Good Value So Far

By Dave from San Francisco Bay Area on 09/19/2014

Pros:

Door Closing Quiet

Cons:

Light Inside Goes Out When You Open The Door

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have had this unit one day and find two features to comment on. When you close the door it is very quiet. Much more so than any other unit we looked at. Second, the light inside is on during cooking, but, as soon as you open the door it goes out, why, we need to see the inside when attending to or removing food from unit.

Door latch - heed reviews!

By Anonymous from IL on 09/18/2014

Pros:

Inexpensive

Cons:

Poor Quality, Difficult To Use, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We purchased this model in April 2013 - it is now September 2014, and the door latch mechanism requires excessive force and multiple tries to latch properly. Shame on me for not heeding other reviews stating this problem last year - I thought for sure we could prevent latch issues just by using extra care. "Extra care" is not possible with such a hard-closing latch. The other features work well but become useless without a safe, reliable door latch. We will be purchasing a different brand if Panasonic will not produce a solution to this basic problem.

The Best Microwave

By Teva from Gunnison, CO on 09/01/2014

Pros:

Does More Than A Basic Microwave, Exceeded Expectations

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After many hours of researching and reading reviews, I settled on a Panasonic with Inverter Technology. It is the best microwave that I have ever used. After several months of use I must say that I am thrilled. This microwave does so much more than a regular microwave and it is a breeze to use. Yes, you need read the instruction Manual as it is different, but it is so much better! My favorite feature is the way it defrosts meat without cooking it. Keeping food warm is also a luxury that you don't find with other microwaves. Don't be intimidated by the dial pad or additional features, after a little learning you won't know how you functioned with a basic microwave. Definitely for those that love to cook!

Excellent Microwave

By Dalman from Dallas, TX on 08/25/2014

Pros:

Inexpensive, Easy To Use, Exceeded Expectations, Convenient, Compact, Durable

Cons:

None

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Don't know why anyone would give this microwave a poor review. We bought ours on sale at Walmart. It looks nice in the kitchen, cleans easily, Sensor Reheat, Turbo Defrost, Keep Warm, and just using time works flawlessly. This replaces 2 cheaper microwaves that didn't last a year. This microwave exceeded our expectations. The quality is also very good. It's smaller on the outside than the other 2 microwaves, but just as large inside taking up much less counter space.

By Don't waste your money. from Jacksonville, Fl on 08/06/2014

Cons:

Difficult To Use, Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Seemed fine the first few months, but then the door had difficulty closing. My wife first made me aware of the problem and I should have returned it right away. At first it didn't seem to be a big deal. It has slowly become worse and now we have to slam the door shut at least 3 times before it will shut properly to work/start. Very frustrating when it wakes up our baby due to us having to slam the door shut. I will be buying a new microwave and it will not be a panasonic. It is unfortunate because the microwave seems to be good besides the door.

Pros:

Exceeded Expectations, Inexpensive, Easy To Use, Compact

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is one of the best microwaves I've ever had. I use it several times a day. The not having a touch pad controls was one of the features I like. I have found real buttons work better and last longer. The cooking is fast, defrosting faster. It looks good, easy to clean. What more can I say? You do need to read the instrucion manual before you start using it. A little different to use than other microwaves. Easy-breezy after the read.

Great performance until door latch/interlock fails

By Delta November from Vancouver, WA on 07/27/2014

Pros:

Convenient, Inexpensive, Easy To Use, Inverter Function

Cons:

Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After my 20+ year old Panasonic failed, I zoomed out to buy another. As many other have mentioned, door latch/interlock disabled oven operation after 2.5 years. Investigation revealed that the sheet metal latch and switch bracket had bent and plastic parts had worn. I've experienced excellent performance on all Panasonic products until this one. Now I am skeptical of the brand. Sad.

Stupid enough to buy it twice!!!

By NanC from Brooklyn, NY on 07/11/2014

Pros:

Convenient, Easy To Use

Cons:

Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

First one I bought only lasted 2 months before it had to be repaired. After the repair it lasted 2 years. The second (most recent one) only lasted 1-yr & 3 months (no longer under contract). The problem both times is with the door. The microwave doesn't recognize that the door is closed, so it will not cook the food. Wish another brand had inverter tech, I'll never by another Panasonic again.

By Anonymous from Lakeside, MT on 07/06/2014

Pros:

Convenient, Easy To Use

Cons:

Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

The door latch broke after 18 months. We continued to use it for another 6 months then it finally went. The Microwave will not work without a properly closely latch. So I guess we need to buy a new one. It will not be Panasonic. When we bought ours we ignored the door latch reviews and thought we will open the door gently and not tug on it. So much for that.

I've read some of the poor experiences that some other customers have had, but I cannot echo their sentiments. We've had this unit for over two years, and it has performed flawlessly since the day we plugged it in. The Sensor Cook feature is fantastic, producing al dente vegetables every time, no matter how much or what kind of vegetables we put in. We're in the process of moving, so I'm getting ready to buy the very same model for our new home.

Best Microwave ever!

By Turkey Hen from Kerrville, TX on 05/14/2014

Pros:

Exceeded Expectations, Easy To Use, Durable, Convenient

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We have had our Inverter Microwave for two months, and I can honestly say it is my very favorite appliance. Everyone I know has heard about how great this appliance is. The Sensor Cook is fantastic. I have cooked everything from rice to asparagus in it, and it is perfect every time. It took us about five minutes to get used to the dial instead of buttons, and now I use it constantly. It does not overcook! The defrost setting is perfect and food is not cooked around the edges. The add a minute feature is so convent when you want to add three or four minutes or more or less. I baked three potatoes thinking they would not be done as was the case in the old microwave, but was astounded that they were perfectly done like they had come out of the oven. Thanks Panasonic for making cooking exciting again. I am in my 70's and do not understand why this microwave doesn't have a 5 star rating all the time. It is far superior to anything If have seen or used. Read the directions and enjoy. It is a pleasure to use.

Fabulous Cooker

By Anonymous from FL on 04/20/2014

Pros:

Exceeded Expectations, Easy To Use, Inexpensive, Huge Interior For Turkey, Convenient, Durable

Cons:

None

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nice to sit back and wait while this microwave cooks a delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner for me. Fish setting works great for chicken. Like the constant microwave heat because it cooks food much better than high-low microwaving. The Inverter turbo defrost very reliably defrosts frozen food quickly and fully making it ready to cook using the sensor cooking. Never used to bother defrosting prior to cooking because food got so cooked by defrosting with high-low microwaving, not worth defrosting first. Food is much more tender, delicious, and thoroughly cooked with this oven, never want to be without a Panasonic microwave again. Do not slam it around, keep it very clean, cover every food with plastic wrap with six holes in it--and all is wonderful and so convenient.

I've owned this microwave for 18 months, and it was a second microwave for some time, so it was very lightly used. It worked ok at the beginning, although I do not like the knob design - it's very hard to set the cooking time quickly because a small twist of the knob results in 2 or 3 minute increment changes - but after just a few months of use, the door latch started having problems. We started having to use more and more force to get it to close. Now, after 18 months, the door won't close at all. It's completely useless. This is a major flaw in this microwave, and many others (see Amazon reviews) have experienced this same problem. Do not buy this microwave!

Door Problems

Pros:

Easy To Use, Inexpensive, Compact

Cons:

Door Won't Latch Correctly., Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I'm having the same problem as others who wrote reviews. I've actually tape marked the door and instructed my family members to use the heel of their hand to bang the door shut at that mark and even that doesn't always work on the first attempt. It's very disappointing to have to replace a working unit because the door won't lock easily.

If you are thinking about buying this product, STOP! The one our family bought lasted 2 months. Sure it is under warranty, but that only covers parts needed, after labor & shipping and handling & wait time to get it back it is more cost efficient to buy another more "Reputable Brand" AC

Quality, Performance and Class at its finest!!

By Mommy2TwoGirls from Tennessee, USA on 02/03/2014

Pros:

Great Functionality, Easy To Use, Durable, Exceeded Expectations, Convenient

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I want to start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE this microwave! After upgrading all of our other major appliances we were left to find a microwave and I am very pleased with the Panasonic NN-SE982S. I was a bit concerned after opening the box that it would be too big to fit above my stove...but rest assured it will fit and is being installed next week. In the meantime it has its place on my countertop. It has such a sleek, modern and sophisticated design and at the sametime almost a futuristic appearance to it with the electrostatic touch dial. I was a bit concerned at first at how well the touch dial would work as I was so used to the keypad on our older microwave and I found that the dial was very touch sensitive. It took a bit of getting used to but I had it down within a few days and now I really love it and how easy it is to use. Next was the turbo defrost. This feature really blew me away! For years I have been defrosting ground beef, chicken breasts, steaks etc in the microwave and I almost ALWAYS had the edges come out cooked while the center of the meat was still somewhat frozen. WIth the NN-SE982S I am pleased to say that my meat came out PERFECTLY defrosted with NO cooked edges! Then there was the sensor cooking and reheat functions. We always have leftovers in our house and I do a lot of "make ahead" meals that I freeze for later use. So this function came in very handy and was very effective at accurately re-heating our leftovers and cooking the frozen meals without over-doing it. They came out perfectly like they had just been freshly cooked. I have also cooked potatoes and pasta in the NN-SE982S without any issues and they have come out cooked perfectly. The inverter technology is GENIUS just like the name of the microwave! It is on regardless of power level and is what allows for the accuracy of cooking or reheating! Talk about some worry-free cooking...its like a SMART microwave! The keep warm feature has really come in handy with all of the cold weather we have had. I have been able to ditch my crockpot on occasions and just use this feature on the NN-SE982S. I would place chili or soup in the microwave and activate this feature and be able to go outside and play in the snow with my kids or clear the driveway and when we came back inside we had a meal ready for us that was perfectly warm and ready to eat! Overall I really think that Panasonic has really outdone themselves with the Panasonic NN-SE982S and you can't do any better! Great quality and outstanding performance at its best!

The finest microwave I've ever owned

By scooty809 from Pittsburgh, PA, USA on 02/01/2014

Pros:

Attractive Appearance, Exceeded Expectations, Durable, Well Placed Buttons

Cons:

Difficult To Use

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I must begin my review by stating, this is the most attractive microwave I have ever owned. Understanding that there only so much you can do with a microwave, I have to say that this one is actually 'sleek' in it's appearance. The push buttons are well designed and their placement is well thought out. Instead of a keypad, Panasonic has opted to use a touch dial. I didn't particularly care for this at first, but after using it for a few weeks, and a bit of patience, I have gotten the hang of it. Using it to set the clock is cumbersome, but for setting the cooking time, it is relatively easy. Panasonic also includes a "Quick Minute" button that allow you to set the time to a specified time, i.e. press it 10 times for 10 minutes. I wish I could use this in connection with the dial, but I cannot. The use of Inverter Technology #using a constant power instead of the power being at 100%, 50% of the time# really is an improvement. A bowl of soup that took 3 minutes to heat, now only takes 1 1/2-2 minutes, and I have found this to be true with all foods. The Turbo Defrost is a nice feature also. In my experience using a microwave to defrost 2 pounds of frozen hamburger, I always had to be careful because I would cook the edges and the center would still be frozen. This did not happen to me with this microwave. I still had to be careful with the edges of the meat, but the center of the ground meat did get thawed at the same time. I have used the "Genius Sensor" also, and again, the sensor was correct in notifying me that my meal was finished. It is very handy. I used this for cooking a 4 pound ham, and it was very nicely done. Also, the Keep Warm setting allowed me to finish a couple other tasks, while keeping the ham warm. Just the fact that Panasonic has created an online cooking school, shows that they have put a great deal of thought in this line of microwaved. One warning - do not use the presets for making popcorn, use the popcorn manufacturer's directions and reduce it by 10 seconds. I burned through a couple bags of popcorn using the Panasonic settings. This is an excellent microwave, and the finest I have ever owned. It has very nice appearance, along with it being very quiet, makes this quite an addition to my kitchen.

Full Size Microwave

By Green Lizard from Santa Cruz, CA, USA on 01/30/2014

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Panasonic NN-982S Microwave is a beast. If you have the counter space, and like to heat large items, this unit is up to the task. Let's start with the features I liked; 2.2 Cubic Feet of space, you could reheat a turkey in it, not that I actually tried it, but I did put a tall container of soup in that would not have fit in one of the 1.2 cf microwaves (it can fit items 10.5 inches tall, as opposed to the 7.5 inches of the smaller unit I have). The next thing I liked is the Sensor Reheat, just put you leftovers in, and hit the one-touch button (actually, you must also press the start key, so more of a two-touch). I have reheated several types of leftovers, including the aforementioned container of soup, and have been really happy with the results. The only thing to watch out for is if the item you are reheating does not contain much water, as the Sensor is based on steam. I use the Inverter Turbo Defrost feature the most, and have only had a few times that it has not completely defrosted the item. This happens mostly with really thick items. But for the most part, it does it's job well, without actually cooking the thinner parts. My only issue is that it asks for the weight of the item, how much does two chicken breasts weigh? Am I really going to get out a scale and check? No, I will just guess, and I seem to always guess on the lighter side so that it is not always completely defrosted. (that's probably better than the alternative) OK, now some items that I am not too fond of. Let's start with the Electrostatic Touch Dial, a novel design of Panasonic. It looks cool, with it's blue glow, and the purple that displays where your finger makes contact. But, to me, that's about it. I have been using microwaves with number pads all my life, and this actually slows me down. It changes time in a progressive manner. Start spinning your finger around and it starts by individual seconds, up to 10, then increases the step by 5 seconds until you reach 1 minute, where it now goes by 10 second steps, then 15 second steps at 5 minutes. So you could never actually set the time for 5 minutes and 5 seconds. This is not only for cooking time, but it affects the Timer function too. I tried setting the timer for 3:15, but could not do it.(Also, strangely, the timer maxed out at only 1h 30 Minutes.) Now, this is not a deal breaking issue, as it does have one positive effect on the design of the unit, it simplifies the controls. The control panel looks a lot cleaner, and it is easier to locate the other buttons. And really, how accurate do you need to set the time anyway? That does bring me to the one button that is most helpful, the Quick Minute, in which you can just hit the button for an even minute per press(up to 10 minutes). Now here is the opportunity that Panasonic missed, once you have pressed the Quick Minute button for, let's say, 3 minutes, it would have been wonderful if you could now use the dial to add some more seconds, or even use the More/less button to add 10 or 20 more seconds, but no, you are stuck with the whole minutes. So to get 1 minute and 30 seconds, you must spin your finger around the dial approximately 2.25 times. Now for the two buttons I don't use, and could do without. Popcorn and Keep Warm. I think both of those buttons should just be part of the Sensor Cook choices. I make my popcorn in an air popper anyway, but I guess if you are a big microwave popcorn fan, then it would probably be a plus. Keep Warm is not something I would think to use a lot, but then I have a warming drawer in my oven (I have used that twice in the last 10 years). On last item, the Sensor Cook. I have only used it to cook some potatoes, which it did just fine. However, in order to use it, you have to have the Owner's Manual readily available so you know which number is for what. For example, potatoes are #8. But, you can press the Sensor Cook button, then spin the dial to #8 (of 18) and when you stop, it says "Potatoes" on the display. So you could just spin to each number and see what it says. But I think it would have been better to actually display the items, instead of a number, as you spin around the dial. So, if you need a big microwave, that does a great job at reheating food or defrosting automatically, then this unit will make you happy. It has clean lines and an uncluttered control panel, and looks cool. If you prefer the accuracy and speed of a number touch pad, then consider the NN-H965BF, which has all the same features, but has a number pad (the only issue is that it does not come in Stainless)

Gorgeous, intuitive, and smart

By Joshua B. from Rensselaer, IN 47978, USA on 01/30/2014

Pros:

Convenient, Easy To Use, Exceeded Expectations, Easy To Clean

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My first impression of this microwave was how modern and impressive it was in appearance. I had no idea initially what Inverter Technology was but I am now a fan and believer. Essentially, as anyone who has used a microwave in the past could tell you, all microwaves I had used before would cycle on and off when I would use anything other than full power. Inverter Technology actually is on the entire time even at lower power levels and heats your food thoroughly, every time! The Turbo Defrost is nothing short of amazing, set the weight, hit the button, and the microwave will take it from there. If it beeps a couple times, flip your meat over and let it finish, even thawing and the meat isn't cooked like I have had happen before with other microwaves. The Electrostatic Touch Dial is intuitive to use and faster than what you would imagine, simply move your finger around the dial and the more you move it the faster the timer increases up to 90 minutes. It has the buttons you would expect with a few that are very unique. The Sensor Cook and Sensor Reheat are incredible, almost magical, the settings of time and power level get adjusted AUTOMATICALLY! Seriously, its like your microwave learned how to cook for you. Finally, the Keep Warm feature is probably my favorite that I have discovered in these cold winter months. I put my chili or beef stew in the microwave, press Keep Warm and set it to half an hour, then I go outside and clear the snow off the drive and sidewalk then head right back inside to my still hot, not remotely burned, just like I left it soup. If you need a new microwave, this is the best choice you can make in my opinion. If you dont think you need a new microwave then you either have this unit already or you have never seen one in use and simply do not know any better. Once again Panasonic has impressed me, they have quickly moved from being the manufacturer of the television in my living room to being present in every room of my home.

Even cooking, modern design, HUGE capacity.

By gadget-guy-427 from Denver, CO, USA on 01/28/2014

Pros:

Convenient, Easy To Use, Exceeded Expectations

Cons:

Learning Curve, Large Microwave Takes Up Lots Of Counter Space

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Functions - This model eschews the standard number pad for what Panasonic calls the "Electrostatic Touch Dial with Push Button Panel". It took a little while to warm up to its spin dial instead of number buttons which are on every other microwave. But, you get used to it quickly and it takes no time at all to spin to the time you want to cook. There are still several buttons to fill my needs, like the add/minus time, and the quick cook button. I tried the Sensor Cook feature and it worked great for my leftovers so I am going to give that a thumbs up. Cooking - Well, I was skeptical of claims about improvements on microwave performance. I have had high-end models for a long time so I'm used to cooking things quickly in a microwave. But this model cooks both quickly, *and* evenly. I have actually stopped stirring TV dinners that tell you to cook, stir, cook some more and they come out fine. Pretty cool. It actually turns the power down instead of just cycling on and off, which makes a lot of sense. They call it "Inverter Technology" and it's a real difference, cooking evenly and not creating all the hot spots (and cold spots). I tried the turbo defrost feature with a massive hunk of frozen vegetables I was saving to use for a soup recipe. It actually defrosted the food and didn't nuke it into an overcooked mess. Finally, I was able to test out the Keep Warm feature with the resulting soup. I have two small kids so it's usually the case that they eat long before their mom and I do. When it was finally time for our dinner, the soup was perfectly warm and ready. I'm quite pleased with the cooking performance. Looks - Really sleek modern design, very futuristic display as I mentioned already, and matches well with my other stainless kitchen appliances. It's enormous inside. You'll be hard pressed to find something that won't fit. This means that its large so be sure to measure so it'll fit your space. Conclusion - Huge win here for Panasonic. As someone who uses the microwave literally 10x a day, everything from cooking veggie hot dogs for the kids, to reheating mac and cheese for the kids, to making Mom and me a quick TV dinner after the kids are finally asleep, a good microwave is important to our family right now. I'm really happy with this model. Yes, the controls are a little different. You'll get used to it quickly, I promise. If you're reading this review, you're thinking about buying it - I'd say go for it.

Really Great Microwave - NN-SE982S

By Slomom from San Luis Obispo, CA on 12/10/2013

Pros:

Easy To Use, Looks Great, Convenient, Exceeded Expectations, Durable

Cons:

A Lot Of Features Read The Manual

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I purchased this Panasonic Microwave in September, before the holidays to replace my older small, ugly microwave. I also got a trim kit and had it installed in our renovated kitchen. Not only is this a really good looking high end style microwave with blue lights and ipod type dial, it has inverter which claims to cook things more evenly... I've used a number of it's features like keep warm, popcorn and sensor cook and it seems to work just as you would expect. (in some cases even better#. Popcorn was kind of confusing as there are settings for different sized bags of popcorn #honestly it took me a while to realize this, but after reading the instuction manual I noticed there were different sized bag popcorn settings). Word of advice, higher wattage microwaves cook things quicker and at higher temperatures, so be prepared to cook things fast in this one. Once I got the hang of things, we have no regrets. I am so glad we decided on this model.

terrible usability

By alb from Undisclosed on 11/05/2013

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Difficult To Use

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The touch-sensitive dial is frustrating, why couldn't they just put a keypad on this microwave? A keypad is much faster and easier to use. Also the turntable platter is huge, try cleaning that in the sink, they could have made the plater half the size. Also the button to open the door is so stiff that when you push it the entire microwave moves back before the door opens. This is a countertop unit, the unit shouldn't move everytime you open the door. Make the button easier to push or put some larger rubber feet on the bottom so it doesn't slide around.

Best Panasonic Microwave Ever

By RebeccaBest1 from NJ on 09/16/2013

Pros:

Convenient, Easy To Use, Durable

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this Microwave! My kitchen has all stainless large & small appliances and this model fits right in. I have no issue with the brightness of the display panel as some of the other reviews state. The features are great and work exactly as expected. I have owned Panasonic Microwaves for 25+ years and have never been disappointed. With meats I mostly re-heat or finish cooking started in the convection oven or grill, but I do use it to cook just about any thing else when an extra cook surface is needed. It is also great for melting chocolate or sugar when baking and getting water just the perfect temperature for proofing yeast.

Not the door

By Sam from San Jose, CA on 08/30/2013

Pros:

Convenient, Inexpensive, Durable

Cons:

Switch Issue

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I like being able to turn down the actual cooking power, now I can heat beans without them exploding. A problem has developed that others may think is the door, but I believe to be one of the several switches used in microwave doors. Occasionally, the microwave won't start when the button is pressed, but this can be overcome by quickly pushing the door down on the right side (where the safety interlock switches are located). This suggests to me that the mechanism that operates the switch may have worn slightly and is not actuating the switch properly. If it ever fails totally, I will open it up and investigate. Yes, I'm qualified to do that.

You get what you pay for.

By KB from San Antonio, TX, USA on 08/25/2013

Pros:

Compact, Inexpensive, Convenient

Cons:

Poor Design On Door Latch.

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This microwave came recommended and the price was good. The unit cooked food nicely. However, shutting the door always seemed to be hard and unnecessarily loud. Also, the features on the keypad were lacking. For example, I could really have used the "Cook 2 minutes" or the "Cook 3 minutes" or even the "Add 30 seconds" functionality of other microwaves. After about a year, the unit seemed to get harder and harder to close. The light would stay on so we knew it wasn't shut. If you slammed it hard enough, it would close completely, the light would go out, and sometimes it would allow me to heat items. I eventually developed a system to get it to shut so that I could heat items. But the rest of the family could never master the "trick" to get it to start. So I finally broke down and dug into the unit. Being a handy-man, I figured at least I could see what was preventing it from shutting. It wasn't hard to get access to the inside. The cover is easily removed with 5 screws. It just pops off sort of like a PC case. Once the cover is off, it is plain to see the problem: the piece of metal that holds the latch switch flexes too much and allows the switch to twist out of place. Thus, it becomes harder and harder to get the door to close enough to engage the switch. I ended up twisting the metal slightly more than straight back into place. I overcompensated so that when the door shuts, it will find the latch ready to accept it. It still flexes slightly so I think it is just a matter of time before it again becomes a problem to shut the door. But at least I know I might be able to fix it. Thanks for reading.

Cons:

Had the same problem with the door as everyone else. Started out normal but after 6 months the door gradually became harder to close. When it worked, it worked well, but a year and month later it's not working at all. In comparison to the life of an average microwave, even though this may appear to be affordable, utilizing Cost divided by Life, this is a very expensive microwave.

About 14 months after purchasing, the plate kept rotating after the heating had stopped but only a one-time thing. Then the door started getting hard to close...having to slam it shut harder. Now l l/2 years after purchase and after warranty is over, we have to slam the door hard and after pushing start button, we have to pound the lower right bottom part of the door and maybe the microwave will start up. Time to get a new microwave.. ...it will not be a Panasonic.

Had this for two years. This morning it refused to operate. Looks like the Inverter part of the Inverter Microwave has failed. You do a minute long time and depress the start button. It starts counting down from 1 minute for about three seconds, then it resets itself. Sure sounds like a power supply issue.

Cons:

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is the second identical unit we bought and it has the same problems as the first. On the first unit the door would not open after a very short time of usage. Then the inverter quit and the repair was higher than the replacement cost. We bought a new identical unit because it is installed in a cabinet wall with a designated opening to fit this model. The second unit was just over a year old when the same problem started with the door not opening. I expect the inverter to quit within the next few months which will be the end of fighting with the door. I am an engineer and I don't understand why this problem is not beeing addressed and corrected with this many identical complains. I will do whatever it takes to fit a different brand into the opening of the cabinet and I will never waste my time with Panasonic again.

I bought this unit as a replacement for another model Panasonic microwave oven of the same size and power that had a problem with the door. This model is even worse than the previous one. You must slam the door shut numerous times ... sometimes the light will not go off and sometimes the microwave won't run when you try to start it. Panasonic has a very attractive design for its microwave but it is too bad they haven't figured out how to make the door operate correctly.

Liked the original, new ones lack

By Anonymous from Orange, CA on 07/25/2013

Pros:

Easy To Use

Cons:

Poor Door Design, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After having our previous Panasonic microwave FINALLY die after multiple uses each day, we decided to get a new one, just like the one we had for at least 5+ years. Well, that was a mistake. The quality of the product has certainly declined. Like so many others who have had problems, ours lie around the door closure. It will close with some force. I have to hole the back of the unit with one hand and push the door with the other. And sometimes, the light remains on, so it is open and close again. It works good as a microwave but there are concerns when it won't close properly and if this causes problems during it's operation. This is being replaced within the next couple of weeks. I am sure we can find something with similar features at or below the cost of this model, and with an operational door.

Door will not shut easily / light went out

By autryld from St. Louis, MO, USA on 07/21/2013

Pros:

Compact, Easy To Use, Dimenstions For Cabinet.

Cons:

Lightbulb Not Consumer Replaceable., Door Won't Shut Easily, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The door has NEVER shut like a microwave door should shut. Even cheaper ovens have better doors. It's also disappointing that a light cannot be replaced by the consumer. I can change the light in my conventional oven. Most everything else seems to work fine but the door has been a HUGE annoyance for the last three years. We most certainly will not be taking this oven to a repair center for something as trivial as a light bulb. I will check further for instructions. The Lumix cameras are great but we will not be considering Panasonic for our next microwave purchase.

Does the job but buttons not very useful

By BillM from Houston, TX, USA on 07/17/2013

Pros:

Inexpensive

Cons:

Difficult To Use

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have been using this MW about 4 months--since 3/22/2013. I have not had any real problems with it. In fact, overall it does a very nice job. However, I found the keypad buttons lacking in really useful choices. The Popcorn, "Sensor", "Turbo", "Keep Warm", "Function", and "More/Less" buttons are really entirely useless. Even after reading the manual thoroughly and their intended purpose, they don't really do anything worth their presence. I would FAR rather see something more simple yet FAR more useful. In place of the "Quick Min" button, include 3 simple buttons: "10+", "30+", and "60+". Those would simply add 10, 30, or 60 seconds to the current cook time. Those buttons should work that way not just before cooking but also during cooking. Finally, the Start button should not need to be pressed most of the time. When a cook time is entered by any means, wait 2 seconds in case it needs to be canceled, and then immediately been cooking.

Door Latch terrible

By tweetybird from Undisclosed on 07/10/2013

Cons:

Door Latch Does Not Last., Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Wish I had read these opinions about a year ago. The door latch is the big complaint......I thought I loved this microwave until I started having to slam the door shut many times before it would start and now it is not starting at all. So we will try working on it ourselves or throw it out.

Door doesn't open easily.

By Rain from Memphis, TN, USA on 07/09/2013

Pros:

Cooks Very Well, Easy To Use, Stylish

Cons:

Bad Door Latch, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I thought that I was the only one having problems with the door. I don't have to slam it to start the cycle, instead, I have to push the button and then pull the door open because the button doesn't disengage the latch well. It's been like this since about 2 months after I bought it and I've just been dealing with it since then (I've had it for about 15 months). I should have called in about it when it first started, but that's my busy schedule's fault. Anyway, If not for that flaw, I'd love this microwave completely.

Not worth the money I paid for this paper weight

By Anonymous from Omaha, NE, USA on 07/05/2013

Pros:

No Pro's

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality, Expensive To Repair, Short Life Span

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My unit was manufactured in June of 2011. It died in July 2013. I don't think I even owned it 18 months. I estimate the usage to about 4 or 5 times a week. I got a H97 error code on the screen. After reading the other reviews on this web site, I don't think I will be wasting my time taking it to a reapair shop. And I know I will NOT be buying another Panasonic microwave. What a waste.

Door issues

By Anonymous from Undisclosed on 06/22/2013

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Inefficient Door

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After 7 months of use by 2 older people, the door has to be slammed several times for it to start. As of now it is very frustrating. I am thinking it will not start the next time I use it. This is a manufactory problem and should be fixed or replaced.

Poorly fitted door and hardware

By Paulo from FL on 06/15/2013

Cons:

Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I noticed that there was a yellowing where the top right of the door closes after about a month of use. A close examination revealed that the door wasn't completely closing (after it is closed and locked into place) and apparently microwave radiation is bouncing from the door to about 4 inches of that area causing yellowing. I've tried to adjust it to no avail so I'll be returning it. There's no telling how much microwave radiation is leaking out into the kitchen. I'm pretty annoyed by this to put it mildly. I'm disabled and will have to wait for my son to come next week to help me return this poorly constructed, expensive piece of junk.

Great unit but...

By paulmario from Vancouver, BC, Canada on 06/12/2013

Pros:

Inexpensive, Exceeded Expectations, Convenient, Easy To Use, Compact

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've had a very similar one with sane features (NN SD698) for 3 or 4 years. I love the power and features and look. It's a great microwave but, last many other people, I've had a problem with the door latch. It's broken, I can't open it and I have a cup of coffee inside. Repairs are time consuming and costly. Yet, I'm prepared to buy a similar one again today, in the hope that Panasonic has improved it's door latch design and construction. My previous microwave had lasted me 15 years, so I was disappointed with this malfunction after only moderate use.

Waste of money

By Anonymous from North Dakota on 06/02/2013

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality, Expensive

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Had this for 6-9 months and it doesn't work. Just like the other reviews, you'd have to slam the door a few times to get it to work-it got to be so bad, I was opening and closing it 7-8 times before it would start up. Now it doesn't work at all! Very, very unhappy. We chose a more expensive microwave thinking it would perform better than the cheap ones-wrong!

Bottom Line:

Bought new (sticker says mfr'd in Jan.2010) bought in 2010. Did last 3 years but really expected more. Seems that pesky "H97 error" is mentioned all over the place. *Might be a good place to start (making a more reliable power supply/Inverter Unit) if Panasonic Truly wants to make a "Better" unit. Good thing I still have the old 'spare', no bells, whistles or "inverters" but still "Works".

Bottom Line:

This microwave is quite large and also very strong, the times I'm using to cook things are shorter than previous m/ws I've owned. The stainless steel exterior is very good looking. The controls are also pretty obvious, unlike some other m/ws I've had where you can't figure it out.

Normally Panasonic products are reliable, but this microwave turned out to be a big disappointment. It stopped working after only 4 years. The unit was not abused or used heavily. The features worked fine...up until I got the error message H98. Fixing it cost more than buying a new one. I'm through with Panasonic microwaves.

Don't Waste Your Money!

Cons:

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not worth buying. About a year ago and although it seemed like a good purchase at the time, its now a head ache to run. The door doesn't seem to lock completely when you close the unit to try to use it and so because of this you end up having to "slam" the door around 5 to 8 times before you can cook your meal. Very irritating! I wish I had read reviews on this microwave before spending my money. Today I'm on the internet looking for a better unit since this one is going in the garbage today!

By JG from WV on 03/21/2013

Cons:

Poor Quality, Expensive, Difficult To Use

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

After a few months of use, the door has to be slammed to get it closed. You cannot push the door closed as with a norman microwave unit. I took it to a authorized repair for Panasonic and there's nothing can be done about the door closure issue, they are all like that. Eventually the closure latch will break with the door claosed and then I can throw it in the garbage. Get on line and type in the model number and read the complaints from others before buying this unit.

I've read several of the reviews and simply can't understand all the complaints about the door and the popcorn feature. I've had this microwave since 2008 and it has functioned flawlessly! The door works as it is supposed to. The Popcorn feature cooks a regular size bag PERFECTLY. Very few kernals un-popped. Obviously the complainers got defective units. and they should be replaced. I would highly recommend this microwave to anyone wanting a QUALITY product!

Another unit with door problems

By Greg from San Francisco, CA on 03/08/2013

Cons:

Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Like a number of other reviews, my unit had door problems. After about 6 months, the door latch failed and the door was nearly impossible to open (needed to push the door release up to 10 times to open). Unit was "fixed" at a service center and at month 12, the door would not shut all the way, so it was necessary to open and close the unit up to 5 times to get the door to shut properly (or the unit would not work). Highly recommned to not buy this unit!

Cons:

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Had about 2 years. Microwave started making electrical popping noises - was advised not to use it. Using an abundance of caution, I will not use the microwave again nor will I attempt to have it repaired (if possible). Electrical appliances that have or have had any electrical problems are not for me. In addition, the unit was rather loud right from the start. It was a good appliance in terms of cost, cooking, internal space. The size of the unit is a bit excessive but can be overlooked when you have something really large to cook. The defrost and reheat settings were great.

Worried about the Door

By Tami from New Mexico on 01/05/2013

Pros:

Inexpensive, Convenient, Easy To Use, Fast

Cons:

Door Problems

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have owned this microwave since Nov 2010. I have enjoyed the functions and feel it works well. I am a light user - only once or twice a day, mostly to reheat. Recently, I'm noticing that the door is harder to close. Actually, we have to slam it to get it to close. So, I came to the website to see if there is a adjustment or something to improve it. I started reading the reviews and, low and behold, the first 4 or 5 of them are describing door problems after about 1 1/2 years of use! Now I'm REALLY worried. Haven't tried to contact Panasonic yet...that's my next step. Our last microwave was a Panasonic and we used it for 10+ years, so naturally I turned to Panasonic again. The only reason we replaced it is because we remodeled our kitchen and wanted an updated microwave to match. Actually, our old one is still working as a hand-me-down to a friend. Crossing my fingers that Panasonic will make good on this problem.

We really liked this- the perfect size and easy to use. Only con was you had to SLAM the door shut to engage microwave. Now after 4 months it works just sometimes- the numbers will start counting down (microwave doesn't turn on) and then it just resets itself to the clock function. Usually after 5 or 6 times of this happening it then works.. Which isn't helpful as it takes along time just to get it to work..

Door won't close properly after 2 years

Bottom Line:

I've owned this for 2 years now, and it looks like I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM as the reviewers below! The door stopped closing all the way, leaving the light on inside, and making it very difficult to start and run the microwave. I need to pound the door or slam it shut for the microwave to work. I do not believe a microwave should stop working after 2 years. Also, I can't believe that all the people below have had the exact same problem in the same time frame, and panaonic has not done anything about it. Pathetic.

Convenient, Easy To Use

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Purchased one of these because I like the inverter technology with real power levels, not 100% on and off. Unfortunately, the mechanical door button operation failed in a couple years. Bought another and had the very same problem in 15 months. Either a design flaw, or an extraordinary statistical occurance.

Door Issues

By Anonymous from CA on 04/23/2012

Pros:

Nice To Look At- Stainless Steel, Compact

Cons:

Expensive, Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

In the past, we owned a Panasonic microwave oven and used it for almost 15 years. That's why when it broke down, we decided to buy a Panasonic again. Alas, the quality of the new mcirowave, is not the same as its predecessor and especially with the price of the product that is much more higher as compare to other brand. The door of the microwave doesnt close properly after using it over two years and then later the door was not opening properly. Alas, one time the door did not open at all. Whats worse was that, it left the mircowave oven lights on and did not go off. No choice, we were in a hurry to get the food out of the house for we need to go to our appointment, we have to yank open the microwave door to get the food. Bad quality Expensive product. We end up buying a new one from Another brand and less expensive and we are very satisfied with the product of the other brand.

More Door issues

By Joe Friday from California on 04/12/2012

Pros:

Convenient, Easy To Use

Cons:

Door, Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love the microwave. Love the size, love the inverter function. However, after about 2 years (out of warranty of course) the door began having difficulty closing. It usually takes 4-5 slams to get it to seat all the way. The problem appears to be with the plastic latching component inside the box vice the one on the door. This is my second Panasonic microwave to have a door failure. They seem well constructed, but the doors don't hold up to normal use.

Very Nice low wattage oven

By Rob from los angeles on 02/07/2012

Pros:

Convenient

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Easy to use out of the box. For some reason the power cord connector design feels flimsy on the oven chassis, I used some super glue for that. I really like this oven, 4 stars only for the power cord issue. I really recommend it for motor homes, campers etc. Good thing is that it can run on 1500 watts dc-ac converters.

Perfection!

By rusty1mb from Los Angeles, CA on 12/14/2011

Pros:

Compact, Easy To Use, Exceeded Expectations, Easy To Follow Printed Directions

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nice size, easy to use. We followed the directions for the Sensor Cook feature for three different kinds of food and have been amazed that the food has been perfectly cooked every time. The popcorn feature also was just right. Our frequent comment: "How does it do that?" I would definitely recommend this microwave, especially for locations where many people may use it and not have the directions to follow.

Disappointing quality

By valued customer from NJ on 10/25/2011

Pros:

Inexpensive, Easy To Use

Cons:

Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Unit worked well and was easy to use. Used 2 times a day at most. Purchased in 2009. October 2011 the door latch stopped working because the bottom small plastic rest on the inside of the door snapped away from the plastic door and broke in two pieces. This is a clear defect and will probably happen to most of them in time. No way to repair it without replacing the whole door. I guess it is a throw away at this point.

Door Lock does not work

By Anonymous from Spring Valley, NY on 08/09/2011

Pros:

Easy To Use

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Loved, loved it for a whole year, than the door would not lock so the food wouldn't heat. Now I hook on a string to the cheap plastic lock mechanism to get it working (that's a PAIN). We don't have kids so it was not mishandled, its just stopped locking one day.

Not What I Was Expecting...

By Sneh from Philadelphia, PA on 07/25/2011

Pros:

Easy To Use, Design, Packed With Features

Cons:

Fails To Function As A Microwave, Did Not Meet Expectations, Poor Quality

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I am really upset with this microwave. I have owned Panasonic microwaves in the past which have exceeded my expectations and were very durable. This microwave however, does not seem to be on par with its predecessors. PROS: The microwave itself is very well constructed and looks and feels great in the kitchen. It is packed with useful features that make its function easier to use. CONS: For some reason the microwave fails to function as a microwave. Food does not heat properly on all sides while the inverter is on. You would have to stop the microwave, turn the plate 180 degrees, then continue heating. When popping popcorn, only half the popcorn is able to pop while the rest remains in seeded form. The popped popcorn then continues to be heated then burns while the remaining popcorn is still left un-popped.

AMAZING!!!

By Poppy from South Carolina on 07/22/2011

Pros:

Inexpensive, Easy To Use, Exceeded Expectations

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is definitely the best microwave I have ever had the pleasure of using. The sensor reheat is awesome; food is always perfectly heated! It is also the first microwave I have ever used that defrosted things extremely well. I can put my chicken in it, type in the aprox. weight and boom! defrosted chicken(that hasn't already started to be cooked). In the past I've always had microwaves start cooking the edges of the chicken when I use their defrost feature and then the center is still frozen when I pull it out...but this microwave is not like that!!! I want to buy one for all my friends! The only down side is that it takes up a lot of space...but it makes up for it in the fact that you can fit larger items in it easily. That is just a trade off...want a microwave that fits more stuff...it takes up more space. duh. But even if your cramped for space in your kitchen(which I am) I think it is totally worth it ;)

Great Family Microwave

By Sunny from Central, IL on 01/29/2011

Pros:

Larger Size, Easy To Use, Convenient

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love the features of this microwave! For example, the warming feature has come in handy many times, the defroster does not "cook" the food and the menu options are easy to understand. The size accomadtes a full size dish, making reheating for a family quick and easy. I had to purchase this microwave quickly as mine had died after 12 yrs. I was nervous as I had not had a chance to do my research but have never regretted my decision. If you have a family you will love this microwave or any from this line.

Good Microwave; Met Expectations

By Anonymous from Huntington, Indiana on 07/19/2010

Pros:

Turbo Defrost, Convenient, Easy Cleanup, Good Housekeeping Seal Of Approval, Easy To Use

Cons:

Cheap Plastic Latch System, Cardboard Piece Inside May Be Hard To Clean

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We've owned it for a few months now and have been pleased with it. It cooks food thoroughly, evenly, and quickly. First day, my mother cooked some leftover onion rings and was very surprised and excited to find out that it had actually re-crisped the onion rings. We use Turbo Inverter Defrost for frozen meats and it does well enough to not cook the food and just remove ice.

By Anonymous from Philadelphia, PA on 04/03/2010

Pros:

Inexpensive, Easy To Use

Cons:

Died Too Quickly, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I liked the look of the unit. Functions were easy to use. It cooked faster than times listed in the cooking instructions so you always had to lower the time or the power settings. Most times lowering the power setting to 8 or 9 worked the best. Went to cook a frozen pretzel set it for 30 seconds, went to get something out of the freezer turned around and nothing totally dead. No warning just poof

By AGT from Arkansas on 01/01/2010

Pros:

Looks Good, Convenient, Easy To Use

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought an NN series in Feb. of 2008. I had just bought and returned TWO Ge ovens comparable to this because one didn't work out of the box and one was so unlevel it rocked as it cooked. I went across the street and found this one for almost $100 less. It looked great with my other appliances and had great features. I was very happy with it until on Christmas day, of all times, this oven just stopped working. The error code was H97 which indicated a generation problem. I took it to the recommended service dealer hoping it was a magnatron tube problem because that would have been under the 5 year warranty. It was not. The service dealer said it was the inverter. The cost to repair the oven with parts and labor was within $15 dollars of what I paid for the oven originally. Told repair man to scrap it. Will try ANOTHER brand. Too bad, because I really liked this one.

Thanksgiving Dinner Saved!

By Skip from Collinsville, Illinois on 11/27/2009

Pros:

Convenient, Exceeded Expectations, Inexpensive, Durable, Easy To Use, Compact

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Our Conventinal Oven Broke the evening before Thanksgiving. What NOW? We went online and found that Microwaves could be used for cooking a whole Turkey and implemented the procedures. The Turkey was delicious! We have owned our Inverter for a little over 2 years and we use it on an almost daily basis. I can't believe the amount of negative ratings, but so far, so good. We like its appearance and functionaliy also, for the price I feel that that some people expect it to outlast the lifetime of an Automobile. That's about all I got to say about that now.

Works Great

By non-cook from Denver, CO on 10/30/2009

Pros:

Easy To Use, Convenient

Cons:

Fingerprints

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my second Panasonic microwave oven. The first one is still working, 6 years after I bought it. I gave it to a family member when I moved to an apartment that had an over-the-range model. Then I moved again, and bought this model. Best feature: REAL BUTTONS! Seriously, how I hate the flat button panel common to most microwaves. I bought this on the spot when I saw the buttons. Also has a general good quality build. I don't cook, so I use this microwave 2 or 3 times a day. Works great. The only con I can think of is that it gets fingerprints really easily.. typical of anything stainless steel, though. Doesn't really bother me.

Pros:

Inexpensive, Compact

Cons:

Poor Quality, Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

A nice compact and reasonably attractive faux stainless steel microwave that performs all the basic functions. Unfortunately, the pop-out dial on mine gave out after about a year, making it impossible to set weights and cooking times. I would not purchase another microwave with a pop-out dial. Also, as another user noted, it is difficult to impossible to read the LED display if you are more than five feet tall.

Disappointing Microwave Oven

By Ky1961 from Harrodsburg, KY on 04/14/2009

Pros:

Easy To Use, Convenient

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We have owned two of the NN-T945 series of Panasonic's microwave oven. We were drawn to the look, the operation, and the size of the oven. It's larger than any other available microwave out there and that's what we wanted. The first one we bought quit working after just 18 months of use. We thought, maybe that's a fluke and loved the oven so much, we bought another one in the same series. This one has quit, with just under a year of usage. Or, right at it, I'm not sure. The error code H98 has appeared and that means it needs "generation" repair. Doesn't sound very inexpensive to me. Generally, it's cheaper and less frustrating to just buy a new oven than it is to have one fixed. So, now we're stuck with purchasing a new microwave -- again. It's very disappointing to have to make this nearly annual purchase. We won't be trying another Panasonic.

nice little oven, except for display

Pros:

Compact, Convenient, Easy To Use

Cons:

Can't See Display

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nice little MW oven. Looks good. Fine for reheating leftovers and pop corn. Nice design except for a really annoying oversight: You can't read the LCD display! When standing all you can see displayed is 88:88. You have to bend down to the level of the microwave to see the clock, time, power setting etc. An odd and irritating oversight for a unit designed to sit on a counter.
