I ordered these speakers to upgrade my Phillips 35watt 2.1 system, which I adored. Wanting to stick with the Philips moniker, I ordred these. Never having owned a 5.1 system, getting speaker placement and what-not right for my decerning ears took a bit, but connecting them was easy. Overall, I'm very satisfied.
An initial concern of mine was the subwoofer - I noticed the cone itself was about the same size if not a tad smaller than the one on my little 2.1 system (though the box is much bigger). However, after using them for a while, I'm quite satisfied with the low end performance. Though it might not satisfy those seeking exhobitant amounts of bass (read: teenage rap fans?), if you're listening to music (including rap and dance), the response of all frequencies is good... maybe it's a little trebley at low volumes, but this is just me being picky and something that can easily be rectified by speaker placement or equalization. In short, buy these speakers -- they obviously passed my meticulous screening. Sound quality is good, and if I leave my door open, I can still listen to my music easily 100 feet down the hallway.
Just for clarification, since this seems to be lacking/hard to find from the specs: the speakers are connected to your source using three 1/8" miniplug connectors (Front L/R, Rear L/R, Center/Sub). Enjoy!
