DON'T BUY THIS

By Smiley from West Palm Beach, FL on 04/22/2009

Pros:

Sleek/compact, Lots Of Storage, Long Battery Life, Easy To Set Up

Cons:

Freezes Up

Describe Yourself:

Avid Listener

Primary use:

Personal

Best Uses:

Gym / Working Out, Anywhere

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I received this product 4 months ago for Christmas. It seemed to work fine then out of the blue the very next day I used it, it froze. The blue Pearl wording comes up but it is frozen there. It won't initialize and when I try to plug it into the USB Port it will not recognize it due to the frozen issue. Not even trying a different USB port or adding and removing hardware devises. Also the RCA site is extremely hard to get to.

RCA Pearl is a fine product

Pros:

Describe Yourself:

Casual Listener

Primary use:

Personal

Best Uses:

Anywhere, At Work

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought two RCA pearls (TH1602) a few weeks ago and they both are working great. I've loaded plenty of MP3 songs using Windows Media Player (WMP) library. I found that WMP works much better than the software RCA included. In actuality, the RCA software works off the WMP library files, so why not use WMP? As far as RCA quality goes, I've dropped mine twice with no ill effects. The player simply shuts down when dropped. So far I've gotten about 25 hours out of my Pearls on one battery. I've reduced the screen saver time and shutdown times, so I may get a few more hours now. I did notice that the Title/Album/Artist/Genre search features on the Pearl work best when those fields are not null for your MP3 files. Overall, feel confident in purchasing an RCA Pearl. It works great!

Don't buy this!!

By Daymare47 from Colorado Springs, Colorado on 10/24/2008

Cons:

Low Quality, Bad Value, Freezes

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Don't buy this if at all possible. I just got it 4 days ago, and it completely stopped working last night. The logo shows up when I turn it on, but it never goes past that. The only way to shut it off now is to remove the battery. It didn't work very well before it conked out though. If I pushed a button after it had been sitting for a while, it would stop playing. I could still go through the menus, but the music wouldn't play, and I couldn't turn it off. I would have to take the battery out, wait at least 5 minutes for it to load again, and go through the same process about 3 times. On my 25 minutes bus ride to work, I listened to maybe 10 minutes worth of music. I thought RCA was a brand I could trust, but I probably won't be buying anything else from them anytime soon.
