Finally an adapter that worked instantly

By Wolf Verified Reviewer from Tampa, FL on 11/12/2010

Pros:

Lightweight, Long Cord, Durable And Reliable, Universal, Simple

Describe Yourself:

Tech Savvy

Best Uses:

Adapt From Pda To Laptop

Primary use:

Business

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

After trying several adapters to hook a laptop (instead of a pda) to a forklift diagnostics system this one finally did the trick. Quick an easy software install...only had to search for the right COM port manually, but works as a charm now. Solid and sturdy connection and cable, something that was an issue with previous adapters we've tried. Highly recommended.

I have what I think is a tough application for a serial to USB adaptor. I have the ICOM PCR1000 software controlled radio. This is a black box radio capable of receiving a very wide frequency range and is computer controlled through a D9 serial cable. The radio's software is also looking for a standard serial comm port. I loaded the adapter's software, plugged the PCR1000 up, and it worked as promised and has not once been problematic. I would also add that this adapter is very well made and it is priced very reasonable. I am very glad to have it.

Upgrading to a new computer gave me blazing speed and more capability but, I had quite a few devices such as my PDA cradle, GPS receiver, and others, that my new Macbook Pro did not have the ports to communicate with. These older items are still perfectly adequate for my use and the thought of how much it would cost me to replace them was out of my budget and unthinkable. This simple adapter, with the included software drivers, has made these devices usable again. Although the tiny CD provided couldn't be used in the Macbook Pro, I was able to hook it up to an external cd drive I had laying around and load it into the computer. I also burned a 'full size' backup cd for future needs with no trouble. Using it with my older tower computer has allowed me to use the USB ports on the front when hooking these devices up to it. Being handicapped makes it especially hard to plug and unplug serial cables at the rear of the computer. Since I plug and unplug these devices often, I would have bought this adapter long ago had I been aware of it. It is so easy, by comparison, to use the front USB ports instead of the rear serial ports, that I would and have, recommended it to others for convenience alone. It has been very handy when I have taken my Macbook Pro somewhere and needed to hook up to their equipment for some reason. Thanks
