Lacks features

By MNGeek from MN on 06/09/2011

Pros:

Lightweight

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations

This review is more a wish list for the next generation of the keyboard docking station. The docking station only comes with a headset output. The competition provides a keyboard docking station which features full USB ports (micro and normal), HDMI port, SD Card reader slot... I love the Samsung tab but I need to be able to utilize todays standard interfaces.

Ok Device but I returned it

By Vargas from Pennsylvania on 04/01/2011

Cons:

Did Not Meet Expectations

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Got this from my wife for Christmas. I was initially really excited about it and used it for a week or two and my excitement kept going away. The product performed ok. I thought the typing was a bit laggy, meaning that I was typing much faster than the words would appear onscreen. The Function keys worked well and would launch the correct applications. I guess I just realized that If I needed a keyboard with this device, I woudl have just bought a laptop instead. Since I do most of my webrowsing in Landscape mode, this keyboard only allows for PORTRAIT so everything was MUCH smaller on screen. Basically, the keyboard turned into nothing more than a really convienent dock for the device. My biggest GRIPE is that the keboard did NOT come with a power cord and you have to use the ONE cable you got with the Tab to plug into the keyboard and then into a wall to charge it. Considering this cable is not very long, this KILLED portability. The keyboard performed ok, I just realized that I didn't need it and had no real use for it. But the lack of power cord I thought was just cheap.

I like the keyboard, but next time include a HDMI out.

Cons:

No Hdmi

I think Samsung really missed the boat on not including a HDMI port on this keyboard. The dock is fine (I have that too) but HDMI on the keyboard would have put this tablet in the living room on the big screen. I would have watched a lot of my internet programs with it like cnet tv, and engadget. With a Google TV like app running on the G Tab we are talkin' portable Google TV here! Listen to your customers Samsung, the port would have made this keyboard huge! In perfect world I would have loved to have Bluetooth on it too! That would have extended the shelf life, and a landscape option might be asking too much but, in a perfect world this keyboard would have that too. And while I'm at it a SD card slot and USB port would make this keyboard ROCK! Okay I'm done, I would paid major bucks for that keyboard! Okay one more thing (sorry but I gotta add this) like additional larger 11" screen would be great. Wireless dock maybe? Come on Samsung you guy drew "firstblood" with tablet and got great reviews. Extend the shelf life of this tablet with a few more goodies. Call me (you got my number) let give you few ideas to make you a couple million more off of this tablet.

I LOVE THIS THING!!!!!

By diro from Chicago, IL on 12/26/2010

Pros:

Lightweight, Very Functional, Great Size, Easy To Use, Durable

Cons:

A Little Pricey

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Just got this keyboard yesterday for Christmas & I knew that I would like it okay but, I didn't know I'd fall in love with the darn thing! Makes me wanna play with my galaxy tab even more! The size is perfect, the layout is great, the shortcuts, function keys are great & it's extremely user-friendly & a smooth transition from a standard keyboard (to me at least). I do think the price point could be a little better but the fact that I literally took my keyboard out of the box and plugged the tab right into it for instant use & gratification was pretty flippin' fantastic! :o) The only other change would be that the dock itself charged the galaxy tab but I guess that would require an additional battery and all that jazz so all in all, it's awesome!

I love my Sprint Galaxy ...

By EpicNTab from Undisclosed on 12/15/2010

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love my Sprint Galaxy Tab, but really miss a physical keyboard. I purchased a bluetooth folding keyboard for on the go and it works pretty good. I was truly excited when Samsung made this keyboard available. Here are my thoughts after a couple of light days of use. The keyboard is nicely weighted, not too light and not too heavy. It feels sturdy and well made. It is truly plug and play, which was a great relief after buying the 3rd party bluetooth keyboard, as I needed to download drivers and watch a video on YouTube to get it working. The Samsung keyboard recognizes the Tab right away and does exactly what it's supposed to do, no muss, no fuss with no timeouts and reconnecting like the bluetooth keyboard. In fact, I can hold the Tab in my hand and if I want to type something, even as short an address, it's worth putting it in the keyboard dock and type away, No delays or freezes. It makes a pleasant tone when it's connected. The keys are responsive and quiet. They are slightly smaller than a laptop keyboard. So some adjustment may be needed for larger hands. As a touch typist, I am very happy with it. I haven't used the speaker line out yet for speakers, but connected ear buds from my Epic and the sound was great. Layout is well thought out. The top row above the numbers are all shortcut keys, including the menu, home, back and search buttons, as on the device. I like the digital frame key which changes the screen to a clock with a date. The rest of that row are controls for music, video, brightness, etc. There is no delete key and there is a blank key under the enter key, that doesn't do anything that I can tell and isn't documented in the user manual. I would have liked to see the power plug included with the keyboard. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase and love the ease of use. I typed the review on the Samsung keyboard.
