What is the black tape and how do we replace it?

By Doc48 from Florida on 07/01/2015

Bottom Line:

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have had this trimmer for about six weeks and have used it a few times. I has worked fine until today. I was using it on a project and noticed some sticky black tape stuck to my paper. I think it came from under the blade carriage but it is completely off. How do I replace it? Do I need it?

Very good cut, not very good in instructions,or manual detail

This is a great product to use ,...if you made it. We've been through the 6 picture "manual" that basically tells you where to insert paper, how to clamp it down, what the parts are called...etc. But not how to actually line up the paper in order to cut something. We found a part that is called the "cutting mat removal groove", but what is it for?!! How does one know when it must be replaced flipped over?? We've lined up the cut-line on our paper with the outer edge of the trimmer but there is no sure way to tell exactly where it must be lined up in order for the blade to go right through your line...we're always off by a bit. Anyway, it cuts wonderfully - if you're not fussy about WHERE it cuts. Any help online is useless, I simply get back to the tiny manual that Swingline puts out for this. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Used every day for past 4 years . . . . and still going.

I use this to trim photos, including laminated photos. This trimmer is very well designed for making accurate cuts. Mat and blade are replaceable, which for me is not often in spite of daily use. The mat can be flipped over and/or rotated giving you 2 fresh surfaces on each side, i.e. 4 mats in one, when used for straight cuts. The blade seems to be self sharpening, because I have replaced it only once in four years.

We have used this trimmer for the last 4yrs and haven't had a problem. Cuts straight! When the cutting mats are used up, just flip!
