Great camera doesn't work with MAC

By mcwevee from Undisclosed on 10/09/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great camera, I love the picture and ease of use. The software they give with the camera sucks, so I hated trying to edited on my pc. I have a mac and the mac software is so easy to use. If this camera worked with a mac it would be a perfect match. I am not giving up my mac, so the camera will be returned. I would reccomend it to anyone who likes working with a pc. But if you have a mac, look for something else.

Who Knew?

By TechGuy from iowa on 03/06/2009

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Who knew that Samsung could make a great little straight forward "Cardcorder". I've been a video professional for 25 years I've seen systems come and go, and the best systems are the ones that the time was taken to keep the interface clean and simple. While similar competitors have the similar features, there buried in long menu systems that make them an irritation to operate. Pros: Quick menu to the most important functions Mic input (Sony took their input off to force you to there prosumers line.) 1080P and 1080I Variable zoom with new firmware update. Con Not so much a con but Please, Please Please, add the timelapse of SC-MX20

Finally a camcorder worth buying

By Vilification from Rochester on 11/30/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I came across this camera while searching for a replacement to my annoying Canon Z800. I got tired of the interlacing issues when doing video editing on a PC / Mac. This Samsung fits the bill. Progressive scan, not interlaced = fantastic quality on a computer. No more jaggy lines on moving objects. I can also bring the movie clips into Final Cut Express 3.5HD without any compatibility issues. The codec is recognizable. Slow motion mode on this is cool, but I honestly wish it was at least 720x480 rez. Unfortunately its much smaller, and only 4:3 ratio. Its a cool feature, but I would vote for bigger size with a slower shutter speed if need be. I assume the small size is needed because the capture rate is 300fps. Maybe its too much data to handle. The cheaper version cameras that don't do HD, also have a time lapse mode. THAT would be great! I'm bummed this camera doesn't share that as well. (next firmware update, hint hint) The picture quality on this is fantastic. The HD looks great. I connect it via HDMI to my 42" philips 1080 set. Looks great. Even the SD resolution looks great for that matter. No hard drive, tape, or DVD. Good! Who needs them. SDHC cards are wonderful, just be sure your card reader can read them. Some cant, so you'll be forced to use the USB connection to get your video off the camera. Still Image capture on this works well. The built in flash is nice. Its a good feature to have. Not having to carry around a point and shoot is nice when you have this camera already on you. The charging cradle is nice, but the ability to charge via the USB cable would have been a good idea. Who wants to bring a charging cradle with them on vacation. Now I have to find an external battery charger. :( One thing listed in the "full specs" is tripod screw = no. Its got one. There is a 1/4" threaded hole in the bottom for a tripod to be mounted. Mic in = awesome! Yes, some of us do use these cameras to capture music and things where we need an external mic, or line in. Thank you Samsung for paying attention. Design and control layout are good. Fits my hand well. On screen controls are good too. 49mm threads for an extra lens is quite nice as well. My wide angle lens works great. (as long as i don't try zooming because my lens is a cheapy) Over all this camera is fantastic. I can only complain slightly. Usually about things I wish it had, not about what it does have. Nice job Samsung.

Nice HD camera for reasonable money

By TomC from Undisclosed on 10/29/2008

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera as a setup from my Sony digital camcorder. The 1080p looks incredible on my Samsung 1080p 56" TV. Great value but wish there was an accessory shoe and headphone jack for airplane viewing. Although Cyberlink software is included with the camera I do not have a robust enough computer to edit the software so I do it all in the camera. I wish there was a way to create a title in teh Cyberlink software and put it back into the camera to complete my editing. Have not figured that out yet.

I had purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD9 only toreturn it due its oversaturated colors. In lookingfor a suitable replacement and wanting a 1080p camcorder; it was not long before I had found the Samsung SC-HMX20C with BeachAudio's great [...] prices. I am floored by the quality of this camera (video quality, realistic colors, ease of use, and a pretty good 8MP camera to boot). I would highly recommend this camcorder to anyone looking for great video quality at a reasonable price.
