Thank you Toshiba for the 4.0 ICS update!

By twobitcoder from Akron, OH on 09/17/2012

I was about to sell my Thrive 7 running 3.2 Honeycomb in order to buy a Kindle Fire HD with 4.0. Toshiba's timing was perfect, as I found the 4.0 update notice last week and applied it. Now, I do not need to sell it in order to buy a Fire HD. Good job, Toshiba! I like this little tablet. It isn't quite big enough to replace an iPad, and admittedly the big-brother Thrive 9 is the appropriate comparison there. But, for doing email, etc, I am used to the larger screen for productivity (without needing a wireless keyboard). The 7 must seem huge to a smartphone user, and it's about the size of a Kindle so it does work well for e-book reading as well. I have no real complaint about the thickness since iPad with required cover is similar. It's small enough to carry with you in a little pack but I wouldn't want to cart it around in a pocket. The real challenge for this 7 size is, it's not as convenient as a smartphone, but not as useful as a full tablet either. I bought it for development work on an Android app and it has performed flawlessly. For personal use, I prefer the larger tablets. However, despite the 7 platform, it has a 1280x800 screen so games look fantastic. So, if you don't like a larger, bulky tablet, you will love a Thrive 7. But, it isn't quite as productive as a full-size. Think of it more as a larger media device, more pleasant to use than a smartphone if you really want to do apps/music/games/videos.

Sharpest Screen Out There!

By Rover from Santa Monica, CA on 01/12/2012

Hands down the Toshiba 7 has the sharpest screen I've seen on any 7 inch tablet (or a 10 for that matter)! Most people either want a 7 or a 10 tablet depending on your needs, you can't compare the two. If portability, expandability and a gorgeous display is what you're looking for you can't go wrong with this tablet!

Don't waste any time with the 7 inch Thrive, touch screen didn't work on my product. Might as well use your android phone. Returned for a refund.

Best 7 on the market

By ABC from USA on 01/06/2012

Having played with the Thrive 7, I strongly recommend it--it really has no competition at the moment. The benefits more than offset the relatively high price. Major benefits: highest resolution on the market; lots of ports (albeit tiny); ability to add up to a 32GB external micro-SD chip; Android Honeycomb operating system.. It seems that many of the negative reviews I have read focus on the price. If all you want is a low price, there are many stripped down units available offered by the competition. The high resolution is the primary reason I bought the Thrive 7; it is a pleasure. Yes, there are a few deficiencies in the Thrive 7--no new product is perfect. These include: dumb proprietary connector for the very expensive power supply; relatively short battery life; battery is non-removable.

Awesome screen and Great feature set for size!

By MGeek from Hollywood,CA on 12/28/2011

Overall this is a great FULL FLEDGED 7 inch Android tablet (not an e-reader tablet). Toshiba did very little to the Android OS and even added their own file manager app that is straight forward and incredibly easy to use. Which is great since you can expand the memory with a micro SD card. It's thickness and rubbery back make it feel secure and comfortable to hold in one hand. Best thing about it though is it's screen! Very sharp and responsive! Pros: Screen, ports, expandable memory, comfortable to hold. Cons: Camera (shutter lag is painfully long. Hopefully can be fixed with a software update), non removable battery, battery life is short compared to other 7 in. tablets.

The 10.1 kills this, why even get a 7. DONT BUY! I bought both and returned this one. I got toshiba products to get the best features around and this is the exact opposite. WILL BE RETURNING!!!!
