High Performance

By Bart from Jugtown, NJ on 03/17/2012

Excellent display, attractive case. Plan to use for home office and travel despite large 17 screen. I generally use a backpack. Almost every thing seems to work well right out of the box! What could be better? Black keys in dim light is a disaster waiting to happen! Why is the keyboard not backlit? My first accessory will be a clip-on lamp. One stuck key snapped back into place with a loud crack! Copying the Recovery Disk Set was troublesome, an all day job! Unreliable though error free acording to the Toshiba software. The disk numbers made no sense and the second DVD came out blank. The software to make replacements worked well, but I was warned that I may be violating the copying agreement! I have zero confidence that the recovery disks would be usefull should I have a need for them. I will use other products later for backup after I install my usual software products. From experience I do extensive customization of any system and I found the Windows 7 control panel much harder to use than on other office systems. I had a hard time making and keeping my choice of Classic Blue Windows display after rebooting. I also lost my preference for a black mouse pointer at least twice. I had great trouble finding the option to Partition the great TB disk. Searching for Partition got me close. Once there and learning the ropes; It worked well, but I would recommend a stand alone product for disk management that would place all the tools including recovery and repair in one place. My one ouststanding problem is controlling the touch pad. I have used touch pads for years with no trouble, but I have not yet found workable settings. The many software hints were very helpful. Perhaps my settings were not always retained after rebooting. I seem to need ever more sensitivity to to get the pointer to even move and then to control wild excursions once it begins to move. Later I will try a wireless mouse when I can sit back and relax in my chair! Overall I am happy with this purchase and expect that these and other problems can be resoved.
