I'm an IT pro and I searched all over for the "best" ultrabook for my needs - a priority was port selection, in particular a full size Ethernet jack and VGA connection out in the field. In the end, I know everything is a compromise, but I can honestly say the Portege Z30t truly lives up to everything it claims: it's fast, lightweight, runs cool and has great battery life. The magnesium alloy does indeed provide a very sturdy body with no flex - this should help with longevity. I'd read reviews that the keyboard/keys are small and it has a noisy cooling fan at times. I will say I have large hands and the keyboard is a bit cramped, however, the spacing between keys is very good and overall, I'm happy with it. One minor disappointment with the keyboard is the backlight is either on, off or controlled by the timer setting #up to 60 seconds before auto off# in the BIOS - I'm used to being able to adjust the brightness level on backlit keyboards #it's definitely not a deal breaker, just be aware#. In terms of fan noise, it's extremely quiet - even when docked and performing multiple tasks, watching videos, etc. Speaking of the dock, the port selection is very good and it truly "feels" like a desktop system in terms of performance - so much so I believe I'm retiring my desktop system in favor of using the Portege Z30t 24/7. My one hesitation buying the laptop sight unseen was the matte touchscreen. The handful of reviews out there seemed to be more good than bad, but of course it's something you have to judge for yourself. I'm used to glossy screens #smartphone, tablet, touch all in one, etc.# and in general they look better to me. Upon arrival, the matte screen finish was definitely a disappointment - it did cut down on reflections in brightly lit rooms but to me, it caused the image to look grainy and not top notch like I'd expect from an IPS screen. I don't recommend this for the average user #remember - IT pro here...#, but I could plainly see the matte finish was an adhesive layer on top of the gorilla glass touch screen - it lasted all of two days before I carefully peeled it off to reveal a gorgeous #glossy# IPS screen underneath. I couldn't be more pleased with the screen afterwards. All in all, this is an amazing ultrabook that delivers exactly what Toshiba claims. Highly recommended!
