I had a whistler during the mid 90s. It was good about detecting radar, but gave several false alerts. That's about the same with this one. The false alerts aren't too frequent, but there are still more false alerts than real ones. I haven't turned the filters all the way up yet, but I occaisionally get false K-band alerts, and the usual X-band alerts. So far I have found this detector to be a good highway detector. I have not had the detector long enough to know how well the range works, but typically when it starts beeping, and a cop is coming from the other direction on the interstate with a divider wall, I will see the police car within 5 seconds. I hear that this detector is comprable to some of the higher end brands. Overall I'm satisfied with the extra help it lends in spotting speeding traps. Other than that, I have yet to hear any of the SWS warnings, the compass is handy only if you're completely lost, and I never have the need for the stay alert system.
