just program your router code into radio and away you go. Unbelievably fascinating programming on the net and considering what has happened to over-the-air American radio in the past decade or so,this radio is a Godsend for enjoyment.

Never had so much satisfacton so quickly from a recent tech product. Even my tech-hating wife loves it. The sound is like a Boze; the set up a breeze; the looks top notch. BB

I find it hard to believe that anyone could find fault with this Internet radio. Yes it would be nicer to have more than 10 presets, but there is a way around that. Even my wife, who generally hates tech products, was blown away by the functionality and sound of this radio. It is much better than anything now available in Internet radios. [...]

I love this radio; a great new window on the world!! This could be the wave of the future and if you look at other radios like this one the obvious conclusion is this is the one to have. The light mentioned in another review doesn't bother me but the fussy remote does. The remote has to be dead on in front to work- something that is a pain because you can't read what's happening on the little screen so, as it takes a few seconds to load the stations, you don't know if your command is being obeyed unless you get out of bed and go look. The radio freezes sometimes when commands are given too quickly in sequence(like with the remote); and also when funny stuff happens with the streaming. As there is no reset button it has to be unplugged and replugged to unfreeze it. These problems will be solved in later radios certainly, but for now this is the best there is. I'm a professional classical musician and I find the sound, while not of stereo system quality, to be perfectly acceptable as long as great volume is not required. The equalizer settings are well chosen.

Sangean WFR-1 Review
By Chuck from New York on 08/09/2008
Cons:
Difficult To Set Up
Describe Yourself:
Audiophile
Pros:
Attractive Design, Clear Sound, Durable, Great Sound
Best Uses:
Entertainment, Production Quality
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Ok, first off this radio is a great looking product right out of the box..They say it is wood but it is so shiny it looks like plastic...It is beyond me how Sangean could get so many hard things right and all the easy stuff wrong. The sound is stunning, the set up should be easy but if you don't enter the case sensitive password your wi fi system requires it will not find the network. An hour on the phone with Tech support and they told me to return the product. Of course I thought it must work and forged on in the lengthy manual and found the case sensitive reference. The text input takes a while to figure out. The ability of this radio to find signals is terrific and audio seemed very good with some stations sounding a little off frequency but I believe this was more the station broadcast and not the radio. Once set up is complete you are amazed at what is available to you on the internet. Old Scifi shows, dramas, tech podcasts, collecting, cooking, you name it it is out there. Now all that said Sangean Techs must have been drinking when it came to the basics. It has a flood light on the display that lights up my bedroom. It stays on forever, even when the radio is off. Why would you not have the light stay on for say 5 minutes when you push a button on the radio and then cycle off. It is so bright it keeps me awake which is good I suppose because I tune all over the place. Even with that strong light you can't read the buttons on the radio so why it is so bright is beyond me. The writing on the buttons is so small you can't read them even when there is adequate light. I am sure the light will burn out soon since it is on even when the radio is turned off. Hopefully Sangean will write some new software to correct this very bad problem. I have an old sock laying over the display to cut down the glare. Ham Radio buffs will love the fact that you can listen to scanner broadcasts of fire, police, airports, govt you name it it is out there. Even TV audio broadcasts are out there...The streaming of audio does drop now and then but I am sure it is my cable service or the fact that there are several laptops on my wi fi setup..The fact that you can listen to FM directly off a separate antenna is a nice feature and I thought that only 20 presets would not be enough but I was wrong. After setup you register on the Frontier website and you can set up lets say 30 folders on you computer that you can access right from the radio ie: Talk Radio Stations, Sci Fi, Cooking, News, Scanner, Movies etc...Once you have all these folders set up you can save 100 Talk Radio stations from around the world to that folder so you can access them right from the radio, even with your computer off..This is a great feature because you can keep stations you like ready to go...All that said, it would take Sangean 10 minutes to make this radio perfect...A cool blue light would certainly be a better choice than bright sun orange. If you are familar with the Bose radios that sit on the table top the audio is very similar to that. If you are looking for a portable system this is not it. It is a table top model that is really meant to stay put. The weight has to be about 10 lbs so you really feel you have quite a packed radio and not a hollow box. You can email me if you would like to know more since I could find no reviews on this model. My radio was a Pre-production model so maybe yours will have the light situation corrected. And if not buy it anyway and invest in a sock to cover the display. Hope this helps. Email me for help: [@]Chuck
