Wow - SIMA Corporation really did their homework on this one! Simply put, you won't find another Public Alert (formerly "Weather Alert") radio that has as many features or is as thoughtfully designed as the WX-167. Like all SAME receivers, the WX-167 allows users to filter alerts by state and county... a significant improvement over the old style receivers. However, this radio can also be set to prevent an alert siren from sounding during all but the MOST URGENT events (i.e. Tornado Warnings, Blizzard Warnings, Hurricane Warnings, etc.) Thanks to its superb alert filtering capabilities, the WX-167 virtually eliminates all middle-of-the-night wakeups due to those annoying, non-urgent alerts. This will go a long way to ensure that the radio remains on when you need it most. Other great features on this radio include: *24-hour battery backup, which includes the ability to use Ni-Cad batteries AND recharge them continuously while inside the radio. *The ability to switch off the alert siren, allowing true voice-only alerts. *Super easy programming via the radio's function knob. *A lit display that tilts for easy viewing at any angle. *Special circuitry (i.e. "10-Day Alert Sentry"), which periodically checks to see if the radio is receiving a NOAA weather radio test signal. *Can be used to turn on various attention-getting devices (flashing lights, bed shakers, etc) for the hearing impaired, elderly, or very deep sleepers. *Can be re-programmed via PC (at the factory) when additional alert codes are added. *A well-written and easy to follow user manual and quick start guide. If you're looking for a great value in a full-featured Public Alert radio, then look no further than the WX-167.
