I bought this for my Living Room after owning a poorer-performing, smaller 37" Sharp LCD. I spent 2 years researching and waiting for the most TV for the buck. I was very close to choosing either the Pioneer Kuro or the 2007-model Toshiba. I also loved the Sony XBR, but the bezel was huge. This 2008 Toshiba Regza is the best in LCDs, in my opinion. It comes with all the bells and whistles for a very good price. A great following at AVSForum has revealed very few problems. The Kuro screen-glare was too great for my viewing situation (and I do not like whites that look grey, which all Plasmas seem to suffer from). Look into the tested Settings Chart at AVSForum and try them -- I found one that makes this TV an excellent experience (but the factory settings out-of-the-box were really too vivid, as is true on most sets). I love the thin bezel -- this gives you a larger Screen Size that will fit within a smaller space. Depending on your needs, you might get their 46" set within a cabinet where only a 42" from another manufacture might fit. With 1080p resolution, you'll need to sit close to tell any differences from 1080i (some say even from 720p), but since this set costs less than their 2007 model, it may be a moot point. My only small complaint - and I stress the word small - is that most of the newer LCDs have a harder screen face that reflects a bit of the overhead lights (as does this one). This one makes reflections look like they are being reflected off Scotch "Magic" Transparent Tape -- so if you absolutely cannot tolerate glare, you should view this set in-store, first -- if you can find one. The trouble is, the guys "in the know" are buying this set faster than Toshiba can build them. No one has yet published a Professional Review, although UltimateAVMag is working on one. I have read probably 150 Reviews on other sets these past two years, so let me warn you -- It will be difficult (if not unwise) making decisions based solely on those. A Reviewer can nitpick a minor detail and blow it out of proportion to your Real World experience, just as easily as the critics in the heavily-followed AV Forums. What I prefer to do is to read a lot of sources to see if the exact same issues are reported -- and not finding some is rare. Reported issues on this set, so far, are very rare, indeed. The blacks are very black for an LCD. Flesh-tones are stunning. Text is as crisp as possible. Black-and-White is wonderful after tweaking the settings. Even the Remote and User Menu are intuitive. This TV solved every problem that I noticed on other LCDs that I've looked at in the past two years. These problems ran the gamut -- from too few HDMI connections (this one has 3 Input and 1 Output) to horrible speakers (my Sharp is really very bad with sound) to garish table stands (such as the LG Opus -- nice images, but a weirdly bulbous stand) to bezels the size of your hand (I'd rather pay for image than window dressing) to off-axis viewing (this set has one of the best off-axis images for an LCD). One Caveat for the New Users just now discovering HDTV: A larger screen makes poor source material (such as compressed broadcasts from cable) horrible to watch. Not completely unwatchable, but keep in mind that you will magnify all the problems associated with analog or SD signals. That's not the fault of the TV. If you wish to improve these sources you'll need to invest in an outboard HQV-equipped video processor or Audio-Video Receiver (such as the Onkyo TX-SR875). I think this inability to "correct" poorer image sources will be the one big disappointment to the newly-initiated. If you can afford to wait another 6 months, rumor has it the next version will include a Cell-Processor similar to the Sony PlayStation 3 (which is still the best Blu-Ray Player available, in my opinion, because of speed-of-loading, if no other reason). But that opens a whole new kettle of fish with issues that might go undiscovered for awhile. I'd advise reading Reviews for months before deciding to see if any problems get reported -- none really have on this 2008 model. That puts your decision out about a year. Plus there's the surmised added expense of such an upscale Processor, and it is not known if it will really improve SD material. With High-Definition or Blu-Ray sources, you're going to be oh, so spoiled! How much so? Let's put it this way: The next time you go out to watch a movie may be your last. Your first thought about two minutes into "Iron Man" is going to be "Darn! I wish I was watching this on my Toshiba Regza at home!!" because the perceived resolution at the Theater will never match what you get from the experience of watching this set. You've been warned!!

Zero issues with this TV. None of the troubles of the higher priced Sony or Samsung, and equal or superior image quality. Calibration is close to perfect out of the box. No dead, or stuck pixels. Had a small issue with the shipping company, but Kris and Patrick with Beach took care of it quickly and without any hassle.[...]

Great picture quality. Straight out of the box I hooked it up to some rabbit ears for a brief test of off-air digital and was blown away by the HD quality of some broadcasters. Now, properly installed and hooked to cable, the image quality is second to none and even the audio quality (considering the narrow speaker bar at the bottom of the unit) is brilliant. The default contrast/brightness/backlight settings are a bit bright, so I had to adjust for comfortable viewing. Hooking up a PC either through the DB15 analog or HDMI (using a DVI-HDMI adapter) gave a pixel-perfect picture (although, as stated above, I had to significantly reduce the contrast/brightness/backlight settings to create a comfortable view). One thing that doesn't work well is the auto-zoom feature, which should automatically zoom in if you have a 4:3 source which is also letterboxed. The set simply won't do it. Otherwise I'm thrilled!
