Great DVD player, I am really happy with this purchase. Older DVDs look great, it has all the hookups I need. It seems to be built much better than the Sony I had before. [...].

Excellent quality, great looks, great menus, internet updates. Some playback errors on some rented HD DVDs can be frustrating - but kinks will be worked out over time and free firmware updates will help.

Everything setup extremely easy. I plugged it into my cable internet, reset my modem, and everything synced up automatically.Onscreen setup instructions are very detailed and easy to understand.I am using an older HDTV so for video I used a HDMI to DVI adapter. What can I say, the picture is everything I expected, which is to say beautiful (using King Kong and Children of Men HD-DVDs). Upconversion of regular DVDs is hard for me to judge because I thought they looked pretty good using a regular DVD player with component connections.Audio is connected using a toslink cable for digital audio. I will say the sound is better than using the same setup with my regular DVD player. I haven't played cd's or music DVD's so I can't elaborate.I don't really like the remote control because it is hard to see the buttons in the dark. I didn't have a problem controlling the DVD player with my universal remote though. The disc tray looks and feels really flimsy. I am a little concerned that it may break if I don't pay strict attention to what I am doing while loading a disk. Just my thoughts, not a deal breaker in my book.I paid about $[...] and I think it is worth every penny...now I just hope HD-DVD wins the format war!

The Toshiba HD-A2 has wonderful picture quality and sound (like standard DVD some HD DVD discs have better picture quality than others). The unit has slow command response times, when you press a button on the remote it takes a few seconds to respond (for example when going forward or back chapters) my standard DVD player responds instantly, HD players are still relatively new technology, I'll bet response times will improve with each new generation of HD DVD players. Overall I'd give the player 4 stars, it does have outstanding picture quality when teamed up with a HD TV.

Almost Perfect

Describe Yourself:
Tech Savvy
Pros:
Great Picture, Attractive Design, Easy To Set Up

Excellent HD DVD picture and very good upconverted DVD picture. The only things that keep me from 5 stars is the fairly slow startup and the non-backlighted remote. If they would have used clearer white markings on the buttons, maybe backlighting would not even be a complaint for me. Neither is a showstopper and I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Love it! HDDVD's are so clear and regular DVDs play at higher quality that my Toshiba DVD player. It is a little slow to load but its not a terrible burden. Recommend to everyone! It is also cheaper than Blu-Ray!!!
