    Cold Window Air!

    I bought the Frigidaire window AC for my bedroom (12X9).
    Likes:
    1. Well built
    2. Simple controls
    3. Sleep Function (raises temp a few degrees after a predetermined period of time, to lower energy usage)
    4. Timer Function (turns AC unit ON or OFF after chosen period of time).
    5. Aesthetic appearance. Neutral color. Good finish. Not cheap looking.
    6. Digital thermostat for more precise temp control.
    7. Remote Control with intuitive buttons.
    8. Reasonably well documented user manual.

    Dislikes:
    1. Too heavy for a single person to install.
    2. Not good for windows wider than 34 inches as accordion style side panels are measured according to width of the unit (don't know why!). Need foam padding to seal the gap(s), if any remain.
    3. Noisy operation. Front air intake panel is plastic and rattles against the unit frame making the AC even noisier than it already is. Quick fix is to isolate the source of rattling adn stuff a piece of folded paper or cloth to eliminate the noise completely.
    4. Cold air vents have louvres which are pretty poorly designed to redirect air to different areas of the room. Automatic rotating louvres would have been fantastic. I use a pedestal fan to circulate the cold air around the room to keep the temp even.
    5. No sturdy packaging to store the unit once winter arrives.

    Unknowns:
    1. Energy Efficiency: Even though this unit is Energy Star rated, I haven't yet seen my first electric bill since after I began using the air-conditioner to assess the veracity of that claim.
    2. Durability: It looks well built, but I'm curious to find out how many summers this unit will perform for us.

    So, would I buy it again, knowing what I know now? A resounding YES!

    Installation for this air conditioner was easy. It cools our bedroom quickly, but it's a bit loud. When the compressor/fan shuts off, there's this "swishing" noise.
