When the Panamax line conditioner I have used for years in my home theater began to show error lights, I looked around for a suitable replacement. I first looked at a new Panamax unit, but noticed they were no longer sold with a lifetime warranty. On the suggestion of an installer I know, I looked at the Belkin PureAV line and was please by both the specifications, warranty, and functionality of the PF60 Power Console.
Installed flawlessly, configures easily, the LCD readout is nice, though it could use one more level on the dimmer "OFF". Works well thus far. Time will be the true test.
Pros:
It is great to be able to monitor the power usage of the various A/V devices powered through this device, now I can tell which devices are running up my power bill even when they are 'turned off' (in 'standby' mode). It allows the user to view the amp consumption for all devices total or individually for each of the 6 banks. It is also neato but functionally useless (except for severe power issues) to monitor the current supplied voltage input.
My system reports around 6 amps draw with everything turned on and the sound cranked up, and thankfully this device does NOT ever seem to produce any significant heat!
Cons:
It really is stupid that the 'dimmer' button does NOT allow turning the display back-light completely OFF, at best it can be set to 'rather dim'.
Pro/Con:
The power cord for this device is HUGE, very long and almost an inch thick, and the plug end is so large that I needed to expand the access hole in my AV cabinet to allow it to fit through, and the excess cable had to be coiled inside the cabinet (that's what SHE said).
For anyone who hasn't had a custom cabinet built with the power outlets conveniently placed NEAR the cabinet, this will be a major PRO! If you plan to place this device NEAR a power outlet then also plan a place to put the excess power cable.
I wish I had some way to actually evaluate the protection or filtering provided by this unit, but as long as none of my devices are burned out or experience interference I can only assume that it is doing its job. This device seems to be a surge protector on crack.
Excellent unit! Love the programmable function
It'd be nice if the power cord were removable and replaceable with something shorter. The power cable is rather thick and for a short run, the excess cable really takes up space. Also, while you can dim the display, you can't get it to turn off.
